Rucci Recruits Jay Rock, Kalan.FrFr, G Perico & More For “Forever On That”

Rucci has always been an artist who is all about repping the iconic West Coast sound and doing it proudly. The rapper began to pop off in 2018-2019, especially when his debut album, Tako’s Son, dropped. From there, he began to build a rapport with some of California’s established talents like AzChike, Kalan.FrFr, among others. His chemistry with the former grew so much that they would go on to drop a joint album, Kourtesy Of Us, back in 2021. All of those learning experiences have led him to develop a signature sound which is apparent on the brand-new album from Rucci, Forever On That.

Overall, this is the veteran’s 19th project overall and first of 2024. Leading up to the release of Forever On That, Rucci put out a third of it, with the rollout process beginning in late January. The title track got things started, and then songs like “Double Park”, “It Hit Different” with BlueBucksPlan followed later on. Across the tape’s 15 tracks you are getting various synonymous soundscapes that California possesses. Whether it be the cowbells, the bassy bounce, or the violent lyrics, you are getting it all. AzChike And Rucci Go Back-And-Forth On ‘Get Back Gang’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Rucci and AzChike have both done individual UPROXX Sessions performances (“Believe In Me” and “Amiri,” respectively), but today, both return for a joint performance of their Kourtesy Of Us standout, “Get Back Gang.” The two LA rappers display the same chemistry from their joint album here, delivering their nonchalant verses with a well-timed give-and-go that would even make the Showtime Lakers stop and give props.

The newly-formed duo isn’t the first to grace the Sessions set, following their fellow LA undergrounders BlueBucksClan, who performed twice (“She Busy” and “Horace Grant“), and Blimes And Gab, who rocked the first-ever tandem Sessions with their fan-favorite hit “Shellys (It’s Chill).” Rucci and AzChike have more in common with the latter, despite being closely affiliated with BlueBucks; both sets of rappers had flourishing solo careers but found that their joint efforts drew enough attention to warrant recording full projects. “Get Back Gang” is a prime example of the strength of Rucci and AzChike’s bond, as they demonstrate complementary strengths both in the back-and-forth flow on the verses and the concurrent rhymes on the chorus.

Rucci’s Heartfelt ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Implores You To ‘Believe In Me’

Inglewood native Rucci sums up his relatable mission statement on this week’s installment of UPROXX Sessions, imploring listeners to “Believe In Me” with a performance of his M*dget track sans guest rapper Mozzy. Rucci, a mainstay of LA’s post-G-funk circuit for years now, experienced his first taste of national recognition with the confessional Tako’s Son in 2019, following up with two projects in 2020: an EP, I’m Still Me, and M*dget, a full-length featuring all sorts of California rappers from AllBlack to AzChike to White John.

Rucci joins AzChike, Drakeo The Ruler, and Almighty Suspect as the latest member of this bubbling underground fraternity to grace the UPROXX Sessions stage. He’s also in prime position to receive just as much — if not more — attention, thanks to recent collaborations with well-known West Coast standouts like Mozzy and Vince Staples. With his honest, heartfelt style and plainspoken witticisms, he’s the perfect rep for the latest wave of Los Angeles artists lining up to take the city’s hip-hop into the next decade.
