Kanye West, Freddie Gibbs, & The Alchemist Preview Is Sending Fans “To Space”

VULTURES 1 has a ton of features and big-name producers across its 16-song tracklist. Kanye West has always been viewed as a master curator. He knows the perfect artist for every track and how to complement them even further with the beat. However, on his newest LP with Ty Dolla $ign, it has not been as praised nearly as much. Kanye’s fans are stanning it, but there is a huge crowd that is not jiving with it. The lyrical content is perhaps one of the biggest gripes people have with the record, as well as some of the mixing. “BACK TO ME” is seen as a highlight for some, mainly due to the Freddie Gibbs feature. The production on the track is fairly lackluster. But, what if Kanye West, Freddie Gibbs, and The Alchemist were all on the track instead?

Well, according to HipHopDX, that exists in the music universe. There has been a snippet that is continuing to make the rounds on X. It only lasts for about nine seconds. However, in just that short time frame, this Ye and Gibbs collab sounds much more refined.

Vince Staples Announces Free LA Screening Of His New Netflix Show

Last month, Vince Staples announced and subsequently shared the first trailer for his new Netflix series. The show is fittingly called The Vince Staples Show and Vince himself stars in it. The project began as some promotional material for his music following his FM! project and lived online in the wake of its release. But there seems to be more untapped interest in Vince’s blend of dry humor and tackling very serious subject matter. He’s already flexed his acting skills with a role in the sitcom Abbot Elementary, which has fans hyped to see how he performs in his own show.

There’s only one problem though, watching the show is going to require a Netflix subscription. Many online in the comments of his posts about the show expressed desire for an alternative way to see the show. Now Vince has answered, albeit for only a select few. “The streets saying they don’t have @Netflix accounts but don’t you fret. We doing a FREE screening for the trenches of Los Angeles !!! Follow the link to link and build. AND WE GOT POPCORN” he tweeted. The post came attached to a link where fans can sign up for a waitlist to get tickets to the screening, which takes place next week. It wasn’t the only time Vince teamed up with The Alchemist last year either. He also lent two guest verses to the producer’s collaborative album with Earl Sweatshirt Voir Dire. Hit-Boy & The Alchemist “THEODORE & ANDRE” Review

Last year, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist teamed up for “Slipping Into Darkness,” a song that saw the two rhyming over the other’s production. Both California producers sounded comfortable, highlighting their underrated skills as lyricists. Since the turn of the decade, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist reached new levels in their careers by releasing prolific full-length collaborations at a high volume. Hit-Boy has worked closely with Nas, Big Sean, Dom Kennedy, The Game, and his father, Big Hit. The Alchemist teamed up with Boldy James, Freddie Gibbs, Armand Hammer, Curren$y, Roc Marciano, and Earl Sweatshirt for stellar collaborations.

Most recently, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist teamed up to produce the entirety of Benny The Butcher’s latest album, Everybody Can’t Go. Known for being skilled beat-makers and collaborators, their lyrical skills should not go unnoticed. Hit-Boy and The Alchemist’s latest 3-song EP, Theodore & Andre, makes sure of that. Their bars are at the center of attention while blending their production styles.

Hit-Boy & The Alchemist Blend Production Styles

On Theodore & Andre, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist expand their chemistry as they rhyme over each other’s production together. This time, there’s a clear-cut intention to create memorable records that build off of a combined sound rather than flexing their lyrical muscle. Hit-Boy’s contemporary soul blends seamlessly with The Alchemist’s vintage loops. The EP’s opening track, “Morrissey” is quintessential Alchemist with its cinematic sample chop and downbeat boom bap. Next, Hit-Boy showcases the versatility of his production, handling the beats on the EP’s other two songs.

“The Main Event” starts as an upbeat trap banger. Hit-Boy raps before transitioning into a traditional drum break over which Alchemist rhymes. The two rapped over distinct beats on “Slipping Into Darkness,” but here, they rhyme over one melody that varies in percussion. The beat switch gives them each their own moment to shine whereas they shine together on the closing track. The Hit-Boy-produced beat on “Don’t Be Gone” is reminiscent of something one might hear on the King’s Disease trilogy. In this song, Hit-Boy and Alchemist rap over a beat that fits both of their styles perfectly. It spotlights not just their synergy as producers, but their lyrical chemistry as well.

Don’t Sleep On Their Lyricism

While they are certainly skilled producers, both Hit-Boy and The Alchemist have shown that they’re equally stellar MCs. Theodore & Andre shows that the two excel at both skill sets and traverse between them quite easily. Hit-Boy’s flow is smooth while Alchemist’s is choppy, which is fitting for their respective styles of production. They find their own pockets, no matter the production similar to how they can cater a particular sound to an artist they’re producing for.

The way Alchemist starts rapping on “Morrissey” makes one wish that he would spit over his beats more often. His bars are sparse as he emphasizes the end of each line. Hit-Boy then comes in at the end with a short yet smoothly executed verse. Throughout Theodore & Andre, both of them flex their lifestyles in their rhymes. The Alchemist raps about outdoing his competitors, making references to his studio and touring life with plenty of food metaphors. Hit-Boy embraces his success, attributing it to his work ethic and divine timing. Their collaborative chemistry really comes together on “Don’t Be Gone,” where they trade celebratory bars over a soulful saxophone loop.

Overall, Theodore & Andre is a lean 3-track EP that displays the chemistry between two artists at the top of their game as rappers and producers. As such a short listen, it is enjoyable for what it is—a quick victory lap. It may not contain their best material ever, but it is something new and exciting for Hit-Boy and The Alchemist. Hopefully, this EP is just the beginning of a fruitful partnership.

The Whooliganz: Where Are They Now?

Before The Alchemist and Scott Caan went on to establish themselves as individual figures in the entertainment industry, they were in a hip-hop group together called The Whooliganz. In the early 1990s, the two met as teenagers in Beverly Hills, connecting through hip-hop. They formed The Whooliganz, with Alchemist going by the name Mudfoot, and Caan as Mad Skillz. The group generated a buzz in California, associating with Cypress Hill and House Of Pain. The Whooliganz released their first single, “Put Your Handz Up” in 1993. It was intended for their debut album on Tommy Boy Records. After the label eventually shelved the group, they went their separate ways to establish individual careers for themselves.

The Alchemist and Scott Caan reunited as The Whooliganz in 2014. Caan joined Domo Genesis on Alchemist and Evidence’s Step Brothers project, Lord Steppington highlight, “Byron G.” Celebrating its 10th anniversary the following month, their 2014 collaboration is their most recent release. Step Brothers, however, told DJ Vlad that The Whooliganz recorded another song with Action Bronson. “He killed everybody on that one,” Alchemist and Evidence exclaimed about Caan’s lyrical performance. This second Whooliganz record where Scott Caan supposedly out-rapped Action Bronson remains unreleased. Aside from their reunion last decade, The Alchemist and Scott Caan have remained successful in their respective industries. Here is a look into where The Whooliganz are now.

Known for his roles in the Ocean’s trilogy, Entourage, and Hawaii Five-0, Scott Caan has continued with acting. Recently, he has been involved in both film and TV. After Hawaii Five-0 concluded in 2020, Caan’s latest roles both premiered this year. He currently stars as Jason Grant in Alert: Missing Persons Unit, which premiered in January. The series revolves around the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit. Scott Caan assumed the lead role of Jackie Powers in the 2023 action thriller comedy film, One Day as a Lion, starring alongside Frank Grillo and J.K. Simmons. Caan also serves as executive producer and a writer for the movie, continuing his long-lasting career in the TV and film industries.

The Alchemist And Action Bronson Are A Fun Pair On “Vertigo” From “Flying High 2”

The Alchemist is one of the busiest producers of 2023. In fact, he may just be the most active one this year. It all began in the middle of February with a single featuring Larry June, “60 Days.” That turned out to be the lead track off of their collaborative record, The Great Escape. From that point on, there was no slowing down for Uncle Al. A couple of months later, he and Domo Genesis got together for No Idols. Additionally, others like Roc Marciano, MIKE and Wiki, as well as Earl Sweatshirt all got to work on their respective efforts with him too.

But, before those tapes, he put out a solo EP, Flying High at the end of June. The Alchemist grabbed Earl for that as well, including billy woods, Boldy James, and more for the four tracks to go along with instrumental versions. Now, he is getting ready for his seventh project. It will be the sequel to Flying High. Supposedly dropping at midnight tonight, November 3, the format will remain the same. However, this time there will be five songs and their accompanying instrumentals.
