Demarcus Cousins Slams Seriousness of Lakers for Drafting Bronny James

Screen Shot 2024 10 15 at 3.17.26 PM

Everybody has an opinion, especially when it comes to all things Bronny James. This time, the takes are coming from four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins.

While on the Fan Duel’s Run it Back TV, Boogie Cousins criticized the Los Angeles Lakers for their decision to draft Bronny James, questioning the team’s commitment to winning.

Cousins, notably is a former Golden State Warriors center, expressed his disappointment with the Lakers’ recent moves, suggesting that drafting Bronny signals a lack of seriousness in their pursuit of success.

“I don’t really think the Lakers are serious anymore,” Cousins remarked. “As far as the Lakers actually competing, I take that as a sign they aren’t really serious. With the way their season ended last year with the high expectations, I expected more from them as far as making moves.”

What’s wild is, Bronny James, who has struggled during preseason play—hitting just 1 of his 11 field goal attempts—is still expected to see minutes when the Lakers open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 22.

Obviously it is anticipated that Bronny will spend real time in the G League, there is also a plan for him to share the court with his father, LeBron James, in what would be a historic moment in NBA regular-season play.

But it’s clear Cousins, however, feels the decision to focus on such moments rather than making key moves to improve the roster suggests a shift in the Lakers’ priorities. To put it plainly, he believes the organization is not as driven to win as they once were.

The Culture Parlor, led by visionary filmmaker Ayana Morris, unveiled its inaugural mobile art installation, “Don’t Touch My Hair,” at Harriet Tubman Square during the Newark Arts Festival. This immersive exhibit, designed to challenge societal norms surrounding Black hair, marks a significant cultural moment in Newark’s artistic landscape.

The opening ceremony, held on October 11th, featured esteemed guests, including Newark Mayor Ras J Baraka, Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, and Rutgers University–Newark Chancellor Jeffrey Robinson. The event commenced with a powerful address by Ayana Morris, who highlighted the exhibit’s mission to celebrate and reclaim Black identity through art.

Once inside the “Don’t Touch My Hair” exhibition, the viewer is immersed in seven moving images that explore various aspects of Black women’s hair. Themes such as bondage, resistance, embrace, assimilation, and survival are highlighted. A powerful poem accompanies these visuals, helping the audience grasp the struggles and triumphs Black women have experienced with their hair. For example, the image on assimilation portrays a woman with blow-dried straight hair, symbolizing the pressure to conform. In contrast, the theme of survival reflects on how hair was braided into maps, guiding the path to freedom for slaves. The exhibition features a full service salon installation with products from renowned hair product company Mielle. Illuminated by ambient lighting, dynamic table dressings and reflective mirrors, the exhibit encourages introspection on the historical and cultural significance of Black hair, creating a space for dialogue and empowerment.

Throughout the weekend, attendees enjoyed a series of events, including the Hair Gala, which encouraged attendees to express their creativity through elaborate hairstyles while enjoying a panel discussion. Saturday’s conversations with Allure’s Jessica Cruel, Shauna Kay, Barri Gibson, Amanda Mitchell, and Kela Walker, and Jennifer Edwards covered Black Women’s Portrayal In Print Media, Black In Beauty, as well as leveraging social media. On Sunday, The Grit & Glam Brunch honored influential figures Mikki Taylor, Misa Hylton, and Claire Sulmners for their contributions to Black beauty and fashion. Panel discussions, live performances, and a vibrant Hair Gala further enriched the festival’s theme of “Radical Reimaging,” enhancing Newark’s cultural vibrancy. Music was provided by DJ Sienna.

Reports have confirmed that Jake E. Lee, a guitarist who’s best known for playing for heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, was shot multiple times today(October 15) while walking his dog in Las Vegas at 2:40 am.

Lee is currently in ICU, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Police believe that Lee was a victim of random violence and was not targeted in any way. Nevertheless, LVMPD are actively investigating the case. There have been no arrests nor do the police have any suspects.

The “Prince of Darkness” Ozzy Osbourne commented on the incident, saying, “It’s been 37 years since I’ve seen Jake E. Lee, but that still doesn’t take away from the shock of hearing what happened to him today. It’s just another senseless act of gun violence. I send my thoughts to him and his beautiful daughter, Jade. I just hope he’ll be ok.”

Jake took over as Ozzy’s lead guitarist in ’82 after the tragic death of Randy Rhoads and left his mark on classic albums like ’83’s “Bark at the Moon” and ’86’s “The Ultimate Sin.”

Katt Williams $1.7 Million Judgment Dismissed After Winning Lawsuit vs. Former Assistant

Screen Shot 2024 10 15 at 3.06.18 PM

Here’s one celebrity who isn’t taking a legal “L.” Katt Williams recently secured a significant legal victory in a long-standing assault lawsuit dating back to 2016. The case, brought by former assistant Angelina Triplett-Hill, was dismissed by Judge Christina Snyder, who threw out the $1.7 million judgment against the comedian.

The dismissal sprung after it was revealed that no hospital records or police reports were filed to substantiate the claims. Triplett-Hill had accused Williams of assaulting her on a California film set in 2014.

According to court documents obtained by the all knowing Daily Mail, she alleged that Williams verbally attacked her after she took a phone call, which escalated into a physical altercation. Triplett-Hill claimed the comedian struck her multiple times, causing her to fall unconscious. She further accused Williams of ignoring her after the incident. In 2016, a $1.7 million default judgment was awarded to Triplett-Hill, as Williams reportedly did not respond to the lawsuit.

As expected, Williams’ legal team, however, maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal.

“Katt said he did nothing wrong and would never pay the woman a cent,” said his attorney, Jeremiah Reynolds, in a statement. “He accepted the risks and understood that the plaintiff would try to play on sympathy at trial to ask for even more money.”

At the contentious trial, Williams’ defense focused on discrediting Triplett-Hill’s claims. “We argued that the plaintiff had created a false narrative of working for Katt as his assistant and faked the incident,” Reynolds continued. “The plaintiff tried to play on the jurors’ emotions, supposed ‘power imbalances,’ and did everything she could to try to bring in irrelevant and prejudicial evidence about Katt. Judge Snyder excluded it all.”

This siginificant legal victory comes on the heels of Williams making waves earlier this year during his appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. In the interview, Williams critiqued several fellow comedians, including Kevin Hart, Michael Blackson, Cedric the Entertainer, and Tiffany Haddish. Following the interview, he received vocal support from other industry figures like Mo’Nique and Je’Niece McCullough, the daughter of the late Bernie Mac.

Raiders Star Wide Receiver Davante Adams Reunited With Aaron Rodgers After Surprise Trade to NY Jets

Screen Shot 2024 10 15 at 2.43.36 PM

Whelp, Aaron Rodgers seemed like he needed help with the receiving core after last night’s Monday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills, and now he has it. The New York Jets have officially acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

We know Adams, who’s 6-1 and weighing 215 pounds, is widely regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the league and now he’s reunited with Rodgers.

A three-time first-team All-Pro and a six-time Pro Bowler, Adams has already tallied 18 receptions, 208 yards, and a touchdown in just three games with the Raiders this season. Prior to his time in Las Vegas, the Fresno State product was drafted in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, where he built a formidable connection with current Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Talk about a winning combo, during their eight seasons together in Green Bay, Adams and Rodgers formed one of the most dangerous duos in NFL history. The pair combined for 669 receptions, 8,121 yards, and 73 touchdowns. Adams’ standout 2020 season saw him lead the league with 18 touchdowns and 98.1 receiving yards per game, which helped Rodgers secure an MVP award. The following year, Adams set personal records with 123 receptions and 1,553 receiving yards, while also racking up 11 touchdowns as Rodgers claimed another MVP.

Get this, while speaking to reporters prior to the Jets’ Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings, Rodgers hinted at his strong relationship with Adams. “I don’t know how much I can say about it, there’s tampering, but I still have a close friendship with him,” Rodgers said. “We spend time in the offseason together, he’s a great guy and a great player, and the rest of that is out of my hands.”

Going back between 2017 and 2021, Adams led the NFL with 6,195 receiving yards and 57 touchdowns, ranking second in targets (731) and receptions (506) over that span. After being traded to the Raiders in March 2022, Adams continued to shine, finishing his first season in Las Vegas with 100 catches for 1,516 yards (15.2 avg) and 14 touchdowns. In 2023, he increased his reception total to 103 for 1,144 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Fans are excited as Adams now joins a Jets receiving group that includes standout Garrett Wilson and former Packers teammate Allen Lazard, along with Mike Williams. His addition further bolsters an already potent offense as the Jets push for playoff contention with Rodgers under center.

Safaree Sends Request To Lower Child Support Payments And Have Erica Mena Cover His Legal Fees

Safaree and Erica Mena continue to show bitterness towards one another despite being officially split for over two years. Most recently, it was the latter who was sounding off, clowning his new sense of generosity. “And here I am feeling guilty because I wasn’t there due to work. And while I’m feeling guilty, motherf*****s is out here trying to make the world believe that they actually have a charity because they care about other people’s children. How can you care about anybody else’s children when you don’t even care about your own?” Mena ranted.

Well, it seems like her views on Safaree’s supposed unwillingness to not help his own offspring are being proven right. According to The Neighborhood Talk (via InTouch), the TV star is looking to whittle down his child support payments. Not only that, but Safaree is additionally demanding that Mena help pay off his legal fees due to her income supposedly increasing. He says due to her labeling him a deadbeat father publicly to millions of social media followers has led to less bookings.

Furthermore, Safaree claims to not be a full-time cast member on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, leading to a decrease in his monthly income. When him and Mena’s divorce was finalized back in September 2022, he was making around $61,000 per month. With that supposedly not being the case, he’s trying to lower his initial $4,305 child support obligation. It’s also not helping that he’s keeping his children for 3–4 weeks at a time instead of the previously agreed upon 12 days. These documents were apparently filed back in a Georgia court in June 2023.

What are your thoughts on Safaree wanting to reduce his child support payments and have Erica Mena cover his legal fees? Do you think this will wind up working out for him? How does this make the musician and TV star look in your opinion? Erica Mena? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Safaree and Erica Mena. Live Nation Faces $5 Million Class Action Lawsuit Over Ticketmaster Data Breach

Live Nation is facing a massive class action lawsuit over the recent data breach from Ticketmaster which allegedly affected upwards of 560 million customers. The group ShinyHunters harvested users’ full names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, and credit card information. The complaint accused the parent company of taking nearly two months to even notice the breach and also of having inadequate security protections in place.

The lawsuit cites several damages including invasion of privacy, an increase in spam calls, texts, and emails, and much more. “The Data Breach was a direct result of Defendant’s failure to implement adequate and reasonable data protection procedures, including vendor management, necessary to protect consumers’ PII from a foreseeable and preventable risk of unauthorized disclosure,” the lawsuit reads, as caught by The Hollywood Reporter.

Nation of illegally monopolizing the live entertainment industry to the detriment of concertgoers and artists alike. The lawsuit seeks to structure how the company operates and includes breaking apart the two entities. (Photo Illustration by Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images)

It continues: “Defendant disregarded the rights of Plaintiff and Class Members by, inter alia, intentionally, willfully, recklessly, or negligently failing to take adequate and reasonable measures to ensure its data systems, or the data systems of its vendors, were protected against unauthorized intrusions; failing to take standard and reasonably available steps to prevent the Data Breach; and failing to provide Plaintiff and ClassMembers prompt and accurate notice of the Data Breach. Plaintiff and Class Members are now at risk because of Defendant’s wrongful conduct.” With the lawsuit, users are seeking $5 million in damages.

The latest legal action comes after the Department of Justice sued Live Nation, earlier this year, for allegedly acting as a monopoly, something the company has denied. Be on the lookout for further updates on Live Nation on HotNewHipHop.
