Tee Grizzley’s “Post Traumatic” Is His Most Ambitious Album To Date

Tee Grizzley has deceptive range as an artist. For someone who broke through with a hard-hitting sound, the rapper has proven that he can drop everything from lyrical miracles to sticky R&B melodies. His last few albums were concise in terms of tracklist, but they were also limited in scope. Post Traumatic, on the other hand, is sprawling. At 24 tracks, it is Tee Grizzley’s longest album to date, and it serves as the ideal showcase for all the different sounds and style he can convincingly pull off.

Post Traumatic starts off a bit show, but “Blow for Blow” gets the momentum going. From track three on, Tee Grizzley dishes out sample-based pop-rap on “All I Wanna Do.” He turns around and leans into hard trap tropes on the hooky “More Than Half.” Need more? How about a flirty R&B duet with Tink on “Ride or Die”? Post Traumatic keeps changing out the styles and featured artists while maintaining a cohesion and aesthetic consistency. It’s an impressive balance. Tee Grizzley sounds just as good opposite Future on the off-kilter “Swear to God” as he does Mariah the Scientist on “Situationship.” The length of Post Traumatic can be daunting, but even on shuffle, these various sounds cohere into a great listening experience.

unnamed 7

Hip-hop artist 42 Dugg announced the “4eva Us, Neva Them” Tour, a 20-city, cross-country trek that will include stops in major cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Washington DC and more. He will be joined by some of hip-hop’s hottest rising artists such as Yungeen Ace, CartierAudi.Money and Chicken.P

The tour announcement comes after Dugg unleashed his debut album, 4eva Us, Neva Them, in July that included star-studded collaborations like Lil Baby, Meek MillSexyy Red, Jeezy, EST Gee, Rylo Rodriguez and Blac Youngsta.

Dugg elaborated on his goal for the album in an interview with Billboard, nothing that he “just wanted to show the people the growth of what type of headspace I’m in, and what I’ve been through and how far along I’ve come.”

4eva Us, Neva Them marked the 2021 XXL Freshman star’s first full project since 2022, a collaborative effort with EST Gee titled Last Ones Left, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. Dugg’s last solo project, Free Dem Boyz, came in 2021 and debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200.

Tee Grizzley And 42 Dugg Get Aggressive On New Single “Detroit”

Tee Grizzley and 42 Dugg make hard music. They’ve built their brand around it. Both rappers hail from Detroit, and give off a specific kind of intensity. It’s helped them get to where they are today. Grizzley and 42 Dugg have both blown up in recent years, so it was only a matter of time before they linked back up. The last time these two were on a song together was “Hard Players.” Now, Tee Grizzley and Dugg are showcasing pride for where they came from. “Detroit” is every bit as gritty as its title suggests. Big Sean may have laid claim to Detroit as an album title, but Grizz and Dugg are holding down the D as a song.

Tee Grizzley kicks off “Detroit” with an absolutely relentless flow. He finds such a pocket that the drums drop out around the 0:35 second mark, and he still keeps going. Grizzley is not playing around, as shown in his absolutely ruthless bars. “I be in a trap with old heads that’s richer than Joe Biden (N*gas loaded),” he spits. “F*ck with me, dog, but don’t fuck with me, dog. That pain nobody wanna feel, that’s what we cause.” Tee Grizzley is a tough act to follow, but he picked the right rapper to hold down the back end of “Detroit.” 42 Dugg adopts a slower, more melodic flow. It works. He manages to communicate a sense of aggression while sounding smoother on the propulsive beat. Tee Grizzley and 42 Dugg don’t break the mold or anything, but they really do the mold proud.

Skilla Baby Claims Detroit Doesn’t Have A Consensus GOAT Rapper

Skilla Baby has build a lot of buzz in the 2020s. The rapper protege of Sada Baby has established a unique sound and delivery. He’s also vocal about being from Detroit, and repping the city’s history of legendary artists. That being said, Skilla Baby does not prescribe to the theory that Eminem is the best the city has to offer. He said as much during a recent appearance on This Is Keke Palmer podcast. He not only pushed back against the Em theory, but articulated a greater issue within Detroit hip-hop.

Skilla Baby had no claiming that Eminem does not have a stranglehold over Detroit hip-hop the way the rest of the country assumes. “I don’t know because if you think number-wise Eminem is the best Detroit rapper,” the rapper posited. “But the gag is nobody would say that in Detroit.” He conceded that he was a fan of Shady when he was younger, but notes that the rapper’s status among younger Detroit artists has faded over time. “I was an Eminem fan as a kid,” he noted. “I’m a fan of Eminem but do we consider him our best rapper? I don’t think Detroit does.”

Skilla Baby Feels That Detroit Doesn’t Have A GOAT

Keke Palmer knew that her guest was veering into controversial territory, and asked Skilla who his pick for Detroit’s best is. He didn’t named a single artist, but rather a revolving door of them. In Skilla Baby’s estimation the mantle for the city’s best is constantly changing. “Everybody had their turn being Detroit’s favorite rapper,” he theorized. “Sada Baby had his turn, Tee Grizzley had a turn, [42] Dugg had a turn, Babyface Ray had a turn.” Skilla Baby also have love to some of the younger artists who have brought attention to Detroit in recent years. Selflessly, he didn’t include himself.

“Veeze is one of Detroit’s best rappers now,” Skilla added. “Baby Smoove, Big Kizz – a lot of artists had their turn. Rocaine… Everybody had their turn being the best in the city.” The rapper claimed that the lack of a definitive GOAT Detroit rapper is a bug and not a feature, however. “What we lack is consistency,” he asserted. “Nobody’s consistently been Detroit’s best rapper.” Maybe Skilla Baby is one of the artists who can correct this perceived inconsistency.

42 Dugg Drops Debut Album “4eva Us, Neva Them”

42 Dugg Drops Debut Album "4eva Us, Neva Them"

Hip-hop star 42 Dugg has released his long-awaited debut studio album, 4eva Us, Neva Them, under CMG Records/4PF/Interscope Records. After a lengthy hiatus, the album marks Dugg’s significant return to the music scene.

“4eva Us, Neva Them” boasts an impressive roster of collaborations featuring artists like Lil Baby, Meek Mill, Sexyy Red, Jeezy, EST Gee, Rylo Rodriguez, and Blac Youngsta. This 21-track project, Dugg’s first of 2024, includes standout tracks such as “Fresh From The Feds,” “Catch 1,” “Go Again Pt 2,” and “4eva Us Freestyle,” offering listeners a deep dive into the world of the 29-year-old rapper.

Dugg dropped two singles to build anticipation ahead of the album’s release. In May, he released the anthemic “Win Wit Us” and an official music video showcasing various Detroit locations. He followed up with “N.P.O.” featuring Sexyy Red, accompanied by a Miami-based music video filled with jet skis, luxury cars, and vibrant scenes.

Earlier this year, Dugg ended his hiatus with a sold-out “Welcome Home” show at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The event featured performances by rap heavyweights such as Yo Gotti, Lil Durk, GloRilla, Boosie, and Big Boogie. A highlight of the show was Dugg’s successful effort to reconcile hip-hop groups Doughboyz Cashout and Team Eastside, ending their longstanding East-West rivalry in Detroit.

42 Dugg & Sexyy Red Have One With “N.P.O.”

42 Dugg is inching closer and closer to dropping his first solo album in three years with 4EVA US NEVA THEM. The Detroit, Michigan native and CMG signee has one single from the project out right now called “Win Wit Us”, which dropped back in the middle of May. Overall, this track is a great indicator that the blue-collar MC is going to give this tape his all, as he sounds hungrier than ever. However, we would argue that 42 Dugg sounds just as amped on “N.P.O.”, the second offering from 4UNT.

It makes sense why the veteran is bringing a lot of energy right now. 42 Dugg was recently released from prison in October of 2023 after receiving a one-year sentence for gun possession as a felon. So, he is probably feeling the need to prove to listeners that he did not go anywhere. If that is the case, then 42 Dugg is going to have a successful album on his hands, especially with tracks like “N.P.O.” on it. This song is raunchy and unhinged, thanks to a guest appearance from nonother than Sexyy Red. From the ratchet bars to the banging and anthemic instrumental, this new pairing is 1/1 in our books.
