Here’s Why 42 Dugg Was In Jail

In May, Yo Gotti’s birthday wish was for 42 Dugg, his fellow Collective Music Group (CMG) artist, to be released from prison. That wish was granted on Wednesday, October 18. Outlets such as Complex and The Fader reported that 42 Dugg was released from the United States Penitentiary Atlanta. XXL confirmed the news with the Federal Bureau Of Prisons, and Yo Gotti posted an Instagram video showing him joyfully embracing the Detroit rapper. He served six months.

In March, 42 Dugg pled guilty to “failing to report to prison camp in West Virginia for illegally possessing a firearm,” and he reportedly received a one-year sentence in April (as per Detroit News at the time). Dugg was previously arrested because he’d recently been “convicted of illegally possessing a firearm (a crime for a convicted felon) and was supposed to report for a six-month sentence last month,” as Uproxx’s Aaron Williams relayed in May 2022.

Upon Dugg being arrested in a federal gun probe in March 2020, XXL provided context for his converging legal troubles, as excerpted below:

“According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court, investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives reviewed video surveillance and documents from the gun range and discovered that Dugg, born Dion Marquise Hayes, and two others visited the gun range on Nov. 8, 2019. Investigators claim that surveillance video shows the ‘Whole City’ rapper allegedly possessing, loading and firing a 9 mm Glock pistol. Authorities learned of Hayes firing the weapon from an anonymous tip.

Dugg is not allowed to possess a firearm due to convictions for carjacking and felony firearms possession in 2010, reports the The Detroit News.”

An unnamed source told Complex that 42 Dugg “was picked up by Yo Gotti” as well as his family and friends, and, “At Dugg’s request, he went straight to the studio after being picked up.”

42 Dugg Has Been Released From Prison

Detroit rapper 42 Dugg has reportedly been released from prison after being sentenced to a year for failing to report to prison after violating his probation from a previous illegal weapons possession conviction. According to Complex and The Fader, the 28-year-old rapper, best known for his songs with Lil Baby, “Grace” and “We Paid,” could be seen in a photo shared by his publicist being embraced by CMG label founder Yo Gotti as they celebrated his release. Yo Gotti also posted a video on Instagram of their reunion.

42 Dugg was apparently able to avoid a much stiffer penalty after pleading guilty to failing to surrender himself for his prior sentence in March. He had been sentenced to six months in camp for violating his probation from a 2010 conviction for carjacking and felony firearms possession. In 2019, he was seen hanging out at an Atlanta shooting range, loading and firing guns, and was arrested in March 2020. Initially, he was only to serve three years of probation and pay a $90,000 fine but was arrested in Las Vegas for obstructing law enforcement and testing positive for opiates.

He was supposed to show up at prison camp in Virginia in April 2022 but failed to report, allegedly avoiding police for a month. Prosecutors said he had tried to claim he was a sovereign citizen exempt from federal laws, while according to his lawyers, it was an honest mistake, as he was seeking an appeal for the 2021 conviction and said he did not know he still had to surrender himself.

42 Dugg Officially Freed From From Prison After Serving One-Year Sentence

Detroit MC 42 Dugg is now officially free from prison as of Monday, October 16. He was serving a one-year bout for failure to surrender himself. In addition, Dugg failed to serve a six-month sentence following a 2020 federal gun investigation. But, now he is free according to multiple reports. Throughout him doing his time behind bars, Dugg was still able to push out some single fairly regularly. Just a couple of months ago the rapper released “One Time.” His eagerness is already growing strong as it was reported that he wanted to immediately head to the studio.

It is a common thing for rappers to want to hit the booth to express their feelings of finally being released. Fans in theshaderoom’s Instagram post recognized this trend. One says, ““Took him straight to the studio” 😂😂😂 this every person in prison 1st move when they get out.” YG also was hyped to see that he was free commenting, “Ayeeeeeee.” What you will also notice below is that they got footage of Dugg being sent home.

Sources told theshaderoom that 42’s boss Yo Gotti, as well as his family and friends, came to pick him up. Gotti and Dugg took a picture in front of the massive welcome party of cars, including a Rolls-Royce. Both can be seen raising their middle fingers at the camera. What is also nice about Dugg being out now, is that he might be able to perform for the CMG Gangsta Art Tour that begins on November 22, according to TMZ. The first show takes place in Fort Worth, Texas.

Charlamagne Tha God Wants To Know How Far Yo Gotti Is From The Streets

In a new interview on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne and Yo Gotti are discussing inspiring those that follow them. Last month, Gotti met the 1st lady on the White House front lawn and that interaction was core to the conversation. Gotti explains how seeing artists like Jay-Z start on the streets and go on to achieve great things and become impactful people inspired him to do the same thing. He also mentions that he aims to set others up with the same inspiration after watching the things he does. But it’s at the end of this conversation that Charlamagne Tha God asks a question that has gotten fans’ attention.

“How far removed are you from the streets” Charlamagne asks Yo Gotti. Gotti himself doesn’t seem to have much of a problem with the question and answers quickly. “All the way. Nah I’m all the way removed from the street 1000%.” Despite Gotti’s lack of issue with the question, many fans did raise their eyebrows at Charlamagne for asking it. “We need Charlemagne badge number. Asap,” reads one of the top comments on a repost of the interview. Elsewhere in the comments dozens of fans point out similar issues they have with asking someone that question.

Charlamagne Asks Yo Gotti Something Questionable

Just last night Yo Gotti dropped in on a new song. He and EST Gee linked up for a new track called “A MOMENT WITH GOTTI” which is serving as the second single for EST Gee’s new album. Just last week Gotti released his new Gangsta Grillz tape I Showed U So. The album featured guest verses from Moneybagg Yo and Rich Homie Quan.

Earlier this year Yo Gotti put up millions to help 42 Dugg get freed. After his release Dugg explained the harsh conditions that he faced behind bars adding even more meaning to Gotti’s drive for his release. Collective Music Group rapper 42 Dugg was sentenced to a year in prison for failing to report for a previous sentence for carjacking and firearms possession. This situation isn’t working for CMG founder Yo Gotti. The Memphis rap mainstay was willing to pay big money to secure his artist’s release, posting a call to action on his Instagram Story. According to XXL, he wrote, “I got $2 million for any lawyer that can get Dugg out early.[That’s] what I want for my birthday #FreeDoggy”

Dugg appeared to be having a miserable time in prison as well, sharing an Instagram post of his own (perhaps through an intermediary) in which he claimed that he wasn’t being given hot water in the commissary to heat up food. “Man, I’m in this b*tch heating my food up with water from the nasty ass shower — they don’t even give us hot water to heat food up,” he asserted. “Ain’t no microwave, I can’t get no visits from my family, nothing. I’m sure they gone do some more illegal sh*t but what I ’pose to die in this b*tch for probation violation?”

Even before Dugg’s troubles, though, Gotti was working hard on prison reform. Last year, he allied with Jay-Z and Meek Mill to throw support behind a bill to prohibit the use of rap lyrics in criminal trials, and before that, he and Jay sued the Mississippi Department of Corrections over inmate rights violations, prompting the prisons’ healthcare provider to end its contract. Hopefully, their efforts will yield greater results in the future, because the prison system as it stands is pretty awful.

Yo Gotti has a bag for anyone who can get 42 Dugg out of prison. Hitting his Instagram story, Gotti offered up $2 million to anyone who can get the Detroit rapper out early.
