JID And Lute’s ‘Ma Boy’ Video From ‘Creed III’ Is A 3-Minute Punchline Drill

In a lot of ways, Dreamville was the perfect record company to produce the soundtrack for Creed III. Much like the label’s founder, J. Cole, and the film’s protagonist, the rappers represented on Dreamville’s roster could best be described as underdogs. Like Adonis Creed, they work hard at their craft; the recording session for Revenge Of The Dreamers III could be seen as one big sparring session in which the rappers tested their skills against each other.

And in the new video for “Ma Boy,” featuring JID and Lute, neither rapper pulls a single punch — they go hard all the way through the three-minute rap drill. Thematically, “Ma Boy” mirrors one of the film’s primary dynamics: the fractured relationship between Donnie and his former friend Dame, who returns after an 18-year prison stint to challenge the junior Creed via survivor’s guilt. JID, who’s a huge movie buff, opens the track with a perspective that almost sounds Dame-like, while Lute answers with a lyrical counterpoint from Donnie’s.

Dreamville isn’t stopping with the Creed III soundtrack this year; a few weeks ago, they announced the lineup for this year’s Dreamville Fest featuring Drake and Usher.

JID & Lute Preview Dreamville Executive Produced “CREED III” Soundtrack With “Ma Boy” Single

We’re just one month away from the exciting premiere of CREED III. As the countdown continues, two of Dreamville’s most prominent lyricists – JID and Lute – have shared a joint track from the film’s forthcoming soundtrack. “Ma Boy” landed on DSPs on Friday (February 3). It sets undoubtedly high expectations for the rest of the songs the label is putting together.

J. Cole’s team is executive producing the music for the Michael B. Jordan-directed effort. However, that doesn’t mean we’ll only be hearing from Dreamville artists on the tracklist.

“Dreamville/Interscope Records worked closely with the franchise’s producers MGM, Proximity and Outlier to create a musical experience that fit not just the film’s needs but one that will be celebrated as its own piece of art,” a press release explains.

“Inspired by both the film and the coming together of various artists on a soundtrack that matches the film’s acclaim and impact on community and culture.”

The full CREED III soundtrack will later be available across DSPs on March 3rd – the same day of the film’s theatrical debut.

Quotable Lyrics:

I take a chance and land it, you just be rollin’ the dice
My heart is as cold as Atlantic, I just be drippin’ in ice
I been that guy since I landed, you a know a real one in sight
You know that this wasn’t handed, you know this really my life

JID And Lute Share The First Taste Of The ‘Creed III’ Soundtrack With Their Powerful Collab, ‘Ma Boy’

On the first single from the official soundtrack to Creed III, JID and Lute step into the ring, hyping each other up on the energetic track, “Ma Boy.” The song features the Dreamville labelmates giving each other encouragement, as they put on their boxing gloves and get ready for an epic fight.

“Boy, boy, that’s my brother, so play it cool / He a fool, a tool, a loose screw / Pickin’ on me, ain’t no pick and choose / Either way that you look, it’s a lose-lose,” raps JID on his first verse.

Soon after, Lute joins in, matching JID’s energy, rapping, “You know that we ain’t the same / You know how I got these stripes / They know I’m rooted in blood / Y’all just be lit of the hype, you know this really my life.”

The soundtrack to the third installment of the Creed series will be executive produced by Dreamville, alongside Proximity Media (Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis), Outlier Society (Michael B. Jordan) and Executive Music Producer Frank Brim. In the past, the soundtrack to the second film was produced by Mike Will Made-It, and the first by Kevin Weaver.

The Creed III soundtrack will arrive next month, in tandem with the movie’s premiere.

Lute Is Proof That Things Get Better With Time In His Confident Video For ‘Like Wine’

Earlier this year, Dreamville released their fourth compilation project as a group with D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape. The 15-track release features the entire label’s roster of J. Cole, Ari Lennox, JID, Earthgang, Cozz, Bas, Lute, and Omen. It also presented additional contributions from 2 Chainz, ASAP Ferg, Young Nudy, G Perico, Reason, Kenny Mason, and Sheck Wes. Nearly two months after the project arrived, Lute arrives with a visual for “Like Wine,” one of his contributions to the project.

In the video, Lute proves that many things in life, like himself and a nice bottle of wine, get better with time. He delivers this message as he drives around in an old BMW while also posing in a body shop filled with throwback vehicles. Lute’s latest video comes after he added to the experience behind his 2021 sophomore album Gold Mouf with visuals for “Eye To Eye” featuring fellow Dreamville rapper Cozz and “Changes” featuring BJ The Chicago Kid.

Lute’s newest video arrives he completed the North American stretch of Saba’s Come Back Home tour as an opening act alongside Enny.
