Takeoff And Rick The Kid Flex Their ‘Crypto’ On Their Ambitious Collab

Back in 2018, less than a year after they released their third album Culture II, Migos decided that they were going to break off for a brief moment and release solo albums. Quavo dropped Quavo Huncho, Offset delivered Father Of 4, and Takeoff released The Last Rocket. In the grand scheme of things, the projects weren’t as beloved as the Migos projects as they helped to highlight while the group works so well together. Now, almost four years later, there’s no sign that the trio is preparing to release solo projects again, but some, including Takeoff, have released songs as individual artists.

For the first time since he dropped The Last Rocket, Takeoff is back in action as a lone act. With his latest release, he calls on Rich The Kid to join him for “Crypto.” The track is of course focused on cryptocurrency as the rappers flex their wallets and how much they’ve attained. It also arrives with a laid-back video that follows Takeoff and Rich as they walk through city streets and kick it on a plane as they brag about their finances.

The new track comes after Takeoff lent his voice to Roddy Ricch’s sophomore album Live Life Fast where he appeared on “Paid My Dues.” As for Rich The Kid, he recently teamed up with Lil Wayne for their joint project, Trust Fund Babies.

Reazy Renegade Taps Rich The Kid & K Camp on “Ballin’ (Kevin Durant)”

For his most significant release yet, rising Miami producer-turned-recording artist Reazy Renegade hits the court with hip hop stars K Camp and Rich The Kid in the release of his new single, titled “Ballin’ (Kevin Durant),” out now via Hits Only Music & Mastermind Artists / EMPIRE.

The song delivers a heavy bass foundation like a ball dripping down the court with the three artists saucing it with basketball-inspired rhymes that praise the popular Brooklyn Nets’ power forward. K Camp and his signature sing-a-long hook style spit, “Ball like I’m Brook, ball like Kevin Durant (Let’s go) / That boy a dub, I know he don’t stand a chance (Uh-huh) / Glock in my hand, keep a knot in my pants (A Glock in my-) / Glock in my hand, keep a knot in my- (Skrrt, hey).”

Reazy follows Camp with a trendy obnoxious flow, rapping, “I walk with a dirty stick / Pull up at a bank with a bankroll lit (Skrrt) / I was eighteen, hit a hundred band lick (Lick) / These n*ggas ain’t even rich as my bitch (My bitch).”

Lil Wayne And Rich The Kid’s Cheeky ‘Feelin’ Like Tunechi’ Video Spoofs Wayne’s Viral 2012 Deposition

It’s really weird to think that Lil Wayne is doing a joint album, Trust Fund Babies, with Rich The Kid before one with, say, Drake or Nicki Minaj. The two rappers don’t have the same extensive history of collaboration as Wayne’s fellow Young Money residents and their respective profiles among fans are, let’s just say “uneven.” But the tape’s out now and judging from its cheeky first video for “Feelin’ Like Tunechi,” the two have a healthy sense of humor about the whole thing so it kinda works.

For example, for literally no discernible reason at all, the video contains an interlude at the halfway mark spoofing Wayne’s viral 2012 deposition video in which he answered a bunch of questions he wasn’t being asked. Taking a line of dialogue directly from that bewilderingly hilarious clip, the off-screen interviewer asks Wayne whether he performed at Rolling Loud with Rich in 2019, swapping the more modern festival for the Virgin Music Festival in 2008 with Kanye West. Wayne’s answer remains exactly the same: “I don’t know, but I know I did perform at this bad-ass bitch birthday party recently. She was crazy, stupid thick.”

We need more rappers willing to have a laugh at themselves. The rap world will almost certainly be better for it.

Trust Fund Babies is out now on Young Money Records and Republic Records.
