Wyclef Jean, Pusha T, Lola Brooke, And Flau’jae Go From Rags To Riches On ‘Paper Right’

The “rags to riches” tale is a staple of hip-hop, so much so that on Wyclef Jean’s new song “Paper Right,” he’s able to recruit a whole posse cut worth of rappers to help him detail how to stack enough cash to retire a couple of generations. Interestingly, in addition to employing Pusha T, one of rap’s most notable street prophets-turned-business moguls, he also lends the spotlight to a trio of rising stars in Lola Brooke, Flau’jae Johnson, and singer Capella Grety.

The song is part of an outreach program by The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (TIAA) called Retire Inequality. According to the campaign’s website, its mission is to provide savings and investment information to Black Americans, who are likely to not have enough savings to retire. To that end, “Paper Right” references generational wealth multiple times, as well as investing advice, like real estate and side hustling; funnily enough, it might be the first time we’ve ever heard Pusha repudiate the drug game mentality that he’s espoused on basically every other thing he’s recorded (even those odd Arby’s jingles he did a couple of years ago).

All of those artists — save Flau’jae, who’s in the middle of LSU’s basketball season — appeared on The Tonight Show to perform the track last night. Check it out below.

Young Devyn Is Back Again With “Baby Goat 2”

Young Devyn’s keeping her foot on the gas with the release of her latest body of work, Baby Goat 2. The eight-song follow-up to 2021’s highly acclaimed EP showcases her maturity and captures her growth. The album boasts some impressive collaborations — a sign that she’s certainly leveling up. Devyn trades bars with the likes of Fivio Foreign, Capella Grey and Kenzo B appear across the project’s tracklist.

She described the body of work as an “update on her life” for all of her supporters who’ve followed her career over the years. Furthermore, it’s a representation of her rags-to-riches story.

“Baby Goat 2 tells a story of a young girl coming out of a very boxed-in environment & becoming something of herself. With this project, I speak on topics that I didn’t specifically mention on the first EP because I wanted to give my supporters a real in-depth journey into my growth from project to project,” she said of the project. “This is my way of giving everybody an update on where I’m at in my life and bring that representation for young people just like me on their grind. A true story. The production is elevated, I got nicer, and that hunger is back. Baby Goat 2 about to run the city!”

The chemistry between Redd, Grey and Spice on the Video God-directed visual is electrifying. The traditional reggae sound blended with the hypnotizing curves twerking throughout the visual amplifies the song’s hit factor and desire for more collaborations between all parties involved in the future. Spice’s voice creeps in setting the tone then Karlie knocks it out reminding us that she is in fact an artist first. Capella Grey, whose personality bleeds all over the beat, marries the track together in a way that shouldn’t work but does.

Honoring her Trinidadian heritage, Karlie Redd is determined to change the current landscape of sound and carve out her space within the industry to deliver undeniably hits continuously.

Before the release of the “Werk” music video, Redd took to Instagram to praise her friend and collaborator Spice with a heartfelt message. “As I reflect upon my present blessings,” Redd wrote with a video of Spice and her celebrating her birthday on an island destination. “I went into a deep depression and a sunken place while trying to keep a smile on my face then Realized How blessed I am to have you in my life @spiceofficial I Didn’t get to post my bestie for her Birthday. DJ Drama Seeks Longevity With Fabolous, Benny The Butcher, Jim Jones, And Capella Grey On ‘Forever’

For the past few years, DJ Drama’s work has come through supporting another artist. Most recently, he served as a host on Tyler The Creator’s sixth album Call Me If You Get Lost which was modeled after Drama’s Gangsta Grillz mixtape series. The project went on to win Best Rap Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards, giving Drama his first Grammy. Elsewhere, Drama helped bring the careers of Jack Harlow and Lil Uzi Vert to new heights as both artists are signed to Drama’s Generation Now label which was co-founded with Don Cannon.

Prior to the aforementioned instances, there was a point when DJ Drama was releasing his own albums as the last one, Quality Street Music 2, arrived back in 2016. It appears that Drama might have a new body of work on the way as he returns with “Forever” alongside Fabolous, Benny The Butcher, Jim Jones, and Capella Grey. The records speak about establishing longevity in their careers, and this gets accomplished through verses from Fabolous, Benny, and Jim while Capella took care of the song’s hook.

The record also stands as Drama’s first single as a lead artist since 2019’s “Nasty” with Moneybagg Yo and Pnb Rock.

You can listen to “Forever” in the video above.
