Ashanti & Joyner Lucas’ Relationship Was “Dope,” Latter Reflects

Ashanti, who’s rumoured to be expecting her first child in the coming months, has shared much of her personal life with the public throughout her career as an R&B star. Understandably, she’s choosing to keep her baby bump under wraps while rumours fly, though she’s still full of energy as she performs some of her biggest hits on stage. Her most famous relationship was with Nelly – the alleged father of her unborn baby – who she initially dated two decades ago. Now, the pair is poised to start a family together as they both continue to expand their creative resumes.

Interestingly, Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee revealed on today’s (April 10) episode of his podcast that another famous artist once had Ashanti on his arm. 35-year-old Joyner Lucas spent some time romancing the “Happy” hitmaker, though their time together was kept out of the spotlight. “It was dope,” the rapper said without hesitation when asked how his time with Ashanti was. “She’s a really dope person, she’s sweet, amazing,” he calmly praised his ex.

I know she was really excited to be a mom.” The two artists apparently spoke about the idea of one day having a family together, but the episode preview showed some hesitation from Lucas when asked if he was in love with the black-haired beauty. The eight-year age gap between them indicates that the Massachusetts native is a fan of older women, which he confirmed. “You’re a Leo, a lion – you want the cougar,” Lee astrologically theorized.

Before Joyner Lucas became a star rapper, he was doing big things independently. However, like most artists who are trying to grow even larger, signing with a major label is the way to go. Unfortunately, for the Massachusetts artist, the opposite was true. Joyner Lucas signed to one of the biggest names in the industry in 2016, Atlantic Records, releasing one project under them. That was 508-507-2209, which spawned one of his first massive hits, “Ultrasound.” Outside of that though, his experience was not all that great and was not what he was promised. Joyner detailed what went on behind the scenes for him in a recent interview on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast. According to HipHopDX, the major takeaway was that it was a scam in his eyes.

Joyner Lucas went onto roughly describe how Atlantic Records tried to sell him anything he wanted. As you will come to learn, he was looking forward to working with the label’s biggest names like Cardi B and Ed Sheeran. However, it was a, “f***ed up scam.” “They find an artist. They do a little research. They’ll have the artist come in. Everybody at the table will make it seem like they’ve been rocking with this artist for so long,” Lucas said.

He then went onto to say how they wrapped up his walk-through. “Then they walk you through the f***ing building, they got all these n****s on f***ing big a** pictures. It’s like a museum. All we missing is you!” Lucas concluded by revealing that they never fulfilled those promises, “It’s a big sham, n****… As soon as you leave, everyone’s like, ‘[laughing] we got them n****s!’”

Joyner Lucas Drops Highly-Anticipated Sophomore Album ‘Not Now I’m Busy’

Grammy-nominated hip-hop sensation Joyner Lucas has unleashed his eagerly awaited second studio album, Not Now I’m Busy. The 17-track project features an array of star-studded collaborations, including appearances by Jelly Roll, DMX, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Twista, Logic, Symba, Conway the Machine, and Nefertitti Avani.

Not Now I’m Busy is a sonic journey highlighting Joyner’s masterful storytelling prowess set against captivating beats. Tracks like “Three Little Pigs” delve deep into societal issues, metaphorically addressing the history of police violence against Black individuals in America.

The album also boasts the chart-topping collaboration “Best For Me” with Jelly Roll, shedding light on the struggles of those battling substance abuse and addiction. This poignant track soared to No. 2 on iTunes’ Top Hip-Hop/Rap Songs chart and reached No. 6 on YouTube’s Trending for music.

Joyner Lucas has been trying to perfect his sophomore album, Not Now, I’m Busy, for quite some time now. The Massachusetts rapper detailed his creative process in a lengthy Instagram post. The tape has gone through tons of reworks, especially the tracklist. In his message to the fans, he made sure to acknowledge that he has been mindful of their feedback. Today, the LP will see what its fate will be in the coming weeks.

Even though “Seventeen,” which is a tribute to Mac Miller’s classic track “Donald Trump,” did not receive the most glowing reviews, it still made it. This LP was originally looking at a 2023 drop date. However, not-so-positive feedback on the singles encouraged the Massachusetts MC to go back to the drawing board. One of the new efforts from Joyner Lucas includes “Best For Me” featuring Jelly Roll.

You may be thinking, why is a country star on a conscious hip-hop track? Well, if you are not aware, Jelly Roll actually has a history of working with rappers. The veteran Nashville artist has worked with fellow Tennessee greats like Three 6 Mafia, as well as UGK. He has since transitioned to writing more country material, but still implements hip-hop where necessary.

Joyner Lucas Announces ‘Not Now I’m Busy’ Headlining Tour

Grammy-nominated rapper Joyner Lucas has unveiled plans for his upcoming Not Now I’m Busy headlining tour, set to kick off on May 11 in Minneapolis at the Uptown Theater. The 24-city trek will feature special appearances from rappers Millyz and Dax.

Joyner Fest, which previously took place in November 2021 at The Palladium, saw a sold-out crowd of 8,000 and served as a platform for Worcester’s emerging artists to showcase their talent.

Tickets for the Not Now I’m Busy tour will be available to the public on Joyner’s website starting Friday, March 8, at 10 a.m. local time. Pre-sale tickets will be offered from Wednesday, March 6, through Thursday, March 7, at 10 p.m. local time.

The tour coincides with the release of Joyner’s highly anticipated sophomore studio album, Not Now I’m Busy, scheduled for March 22. Joyner recently unveiled the album’s artwork, generating further excitement among his fan base.

Massachusetts rapper Joyner Lucas is a confusing rapper at times. He can truly blow you away with his technical ability. However, there are other instances where he comes across as bland and forgettable. Every artist has moments like that, but it seems that fans hold him to a higher standard. Other reasons for his inconsistencies are because of his projects and their rollouts. ADHD had way too many singles released ahead of it, leading to a fairly boring album listen. The same can be said about Not Now, I’m Busy.

In a lengthy November Instagram post, Joyner revealed that the album was in the works for about two years and was finished five months prior. However, due to the reactions that fans were giving to the singles, Joyner felt it was not a project that fans would enjoy. So, he decided to scrap that record that was expected to drop last year and has been reshaping the tracklist ever since. According to Genius, the songs that are rumored to make the final cut have been trimmed down to six, instead of seven.

“Blackout” with Future, and “Devil’s Work 2,” are currently not on the LP. One of the tracks that will take its place is “Sticks & Stones” with Conway the Machine. On top of those changes we just mentioned, Not Now, I’m Busy is getting a brand-new cover art and official release date. The original artwork saw Joyner falling out of the sky with an exploding orange car. This new one has an orange color scheme, but the big change shows Lucas’s face in a bloody close-up. Fans should expect the tape to drop on March 22.
