Lil Yachty Claims His Next Album Will Be A ‘Psychedelic Alternative Project’ Instead Of Rap
It shouldn’t come as any surprise that Lil Yachty is branching out musically — he’s been doing it his whole career. Despite being a really solid straight-up rapper, he made his first big splash musically with the Lil Boat mixtape, which found him singing over cloudy beats as much as spitting bruising battle raps, although he’d already proved he could do that, too. More recently, his Michigan Boy Boat mixtape saw him try on a new regional style that lent itself to his rapid-fire delivery alongside some of Michigan’s hottest up-and-comers.
But his next album might be his biggest swing yet. During an interview at Atlanta jewelry story Icebox, Yachty said his new album would depart from rap entirely. “My new album is a non-rap album,” he said. ““It’s alternative, it’s sick! I’ve always wanted to [do one] but now I’ve met all these amazing musicians and producers. It’s like a psychedelic-alternative project. It’s different and it’s all live instrumentation. I’ve changed my entire dynamic. I’m telling you, with this album and on, I’m creating music a whole lot differently.”
Among those producers is Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, with whom Yachty remixed “Breathe Deeper” last year, and his most recent solo single was the soft-rock-inspired “Love Music” — perhaps offering a glimpse of what he has in store on this mysterious new album.
Lizzo Puts Mustard On Apples In A TikTok Video, Showing No Regard For Lil Yachty
Oreos and mustard, eh? While the combination is not quite as classic as coffee and milk or grilled cheese and tomato soup, it is the latest TikTok challenge and last week, Lizzo gave the combo a try. “TikTok made me try mustard and Oreos,” the “Truth Hurts” singer captioned, and embarked on the questionable food pairing in front of her more than 20 million followers on the app.

It wasn’t long before she drew the ire of Lil Yachty, who then posted his own TikTok #stitch clip, where he cuts away from Lizzo’s original video swiping the mustard away. “Gimme the goddamn mustard! You know this don’t go on that,” he says to his more than 8 million followers. “Gimme these too, you dead wrong,” he says, as he takes away the Oreos in an attempt to preserve the purity of the time-honored cookie.

But as she tends to do, Lizzo gets the last laugh here. In a video posted on Friday, she mashes up Lil Yachty’s mash up, reclaiming the mustard and immediately putting it on a juicy green apple. “Gimme the mustard back b*itch! You play too much…you wrong!,” she says as she proceeds to take a very focused bite of the errr…snack.
@lizzo Excuse me, Mr. Boat @lilyachty
As disgusting as these combinations might seem, the Lizzo and Lil Yachty back and forth is gold. Somehow, Lizzo found time to even try ranch dressing on spaghetti in between videos? (That ain’t right!) Regardless, she wins this round and all Lil Yachty can do is breathe heavily while admitting defeat the only way he can:

Young Thug, Lil Yachty, And More Will Trek Through Nature In The Upcoming HBO Show ‘Chillin Island’
There’s a lot of fun to be had when you get people out of their comfort zones for in-depth interviews — just check out Hot Ones, where Sean Evans’ invincible tongue allows him to get meme-worthy responses out of guests as they attempt to down the spiciest wings while answering even spicier questions (sorry, it’s such a good tagline). A new show coming out next week will attempt to do something similar. Chillin Island, which will air on HBO on December 17, will see rappers and other musicians leaving behind the hustle and bustle of their urban origins for the peace and quiet of nature.
Of course, the other key to getting good responses is making folks feel comfortable while they’re way out of their comfort zones, so to that end, Chillin Island is pairing these rappers with members of their own fraternity: New York rappers Despot, Lakutis, and former Das Racist member Dap (aka Dapwell). They’ll trek to deserts, swamps, and other havens to commune with nature and get in touch with human nature.
Their guests will include a truly fascinating array of artists including Coi Leray, Gunna, Killer Mike, Lil Tecca, Lil Yachty, Rosalía, Ski Mask the Slump God, Young Thug, and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koening.
You can watch Chillin Island on HBO on 12/17 at 10:30 pm and stream on HBO Max. Check out the trailer above.
