PnB Rock Turns 32: Remembering Why He Was Able To Bring Great Vibes On Tracks Like “Lovin’”

The 2017 XXL Freshman Class is one of the best in recent memory. Sadly, we have tragically lost two of some of the very best along the way. XXXTENTACION and PnB Rock. Today, we celebrate what would have been the Philadelphia native’s 32nd birthday. Born Rakim Hasheem Allen on December 9, 1991, he was always able to provide listeners with great vibing music.

He was known by many for his hit song “Selfish” from his debut tape, GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions. But, he was much more than that. The R&B singer was a father to two beautiful daughters, Milan and Xuri Lee. Unfortunately, they will have to carry on without him after he was fatally shot during an armed robbery back in September 2022.

Relisten To “Lovin’” By PnB Rock And A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie

We wanted to take the time to look back at one of Rock’s best tracks, to help continue to keep his legacy in people’s minds. One of those we can never forget is “Lovin’.” This song, featuring his close friend A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, landed on his debut album Catch These Vibes back in 2017. It has some of the best writing and perhaps the best beat as well. The bouncy production almost gives a bit of a throwback vibe. We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to Rock’s family and friends.

What were your initial thoughts on PnB Rock’s track, “Lovin’,” from Catch These Vibes featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie? Was this the best, or at least one of the top-tier songs from this project? Two Additional Suspects Charged in Murder of PnB Rock

PnB Rock's Brother, PnB Meen, Visits Roscoe's Location '20 Deep'

The murder of PnB Rock has two new names attached. According to Rolling Stone, a man who greeted Rock as he entered Roscoe’s Chicken ‘N Waffles provided the late rapper’s location and may have also supplied the gun used in the murder.

The newly charged man is 45-year-old Tremont Navon Jones, who appeared at a Compton courthouse. Jones was present with Freddie Trone, who was the getaway driver and father of the juvenile who executed the robbery and murder. Jones was arrested in May, but his case was not revealed as it was placed under a different case number.

Jones is charged with two counts of robbery, one count of conspiring to rob, and one count of illegal possession of a firearm.

Also added to the case is Wynisha Evans, who drove Trone to Vegas to escape the manhunt.

In September, PnB Rock’s lover Stephanie Sibounheuang penned a message on Instagram remembering the late rapper on the anniversary of his death. Sibounheuang was with Rock when he was robbed and shot at Roscoe’s Chicken ‘N Waffles in Los Angeles.

“I’ve been in the deepest depression for a lil min contemplating todays date, which makes a year since your transition. I argued with God about openly reliving this day and i absolutely did not want to, so this is an act of obedience,” Sibounheuang wrote. “This same day last year, you could look into my eyes and tell my soul was not in my body. All I could hear were the gunshots over and over and they were so LOUD I couldn’t hear myself think.”

PnB Rock’s Death: What We Know

PnB Rock’s death shook the internet. Rakim Allen, a rapper from Philadelphia, was best known for his album TrapStar Turnt Popstar, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He was also in the 2017 class of XXL Freshmen. However, on September 12, 2022, PnB Rock died in a fatal shooting at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles in Los Angeles. As news of his death spread, many of his colleagues in the music industry sent their condolences. Meanwhile, a heated argument about who was to blame erupted on social media.

Suspects Arrested

Two weeks after the fatal robbery, police in Los Angeles arrested two people. One of the suspects, a teen, was arrested and charged with murder. The other suspect, Shauntel Trone, 32, was apprehended on accusations of being an accessory to murder. Additionally, the police said that a man named Freddie Lee Trone was also a suspect and asked the public to help them find him. The authorities later charged the trio, naming Freddie as the teen’s father and Shauntel as the boy’s stepmother. PnB Rock’s murder investigation is delving deep into his past, allegedly because cops believe this was more than simply a random theft. Instead, it may have been an orchestrated killing by an enemy. Although there are still more questions than answers about the death of the rap star, this is all we know about it so far.

PnB Rock Shot: Drama Unfolds On Social Media

Following PnB Rock’s death, people argued about the location tag on his girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang’s social media post. It was alleged that PnB’s killer may have used it to find him and reminded the public of the slaying of Pop Smoke in 2020. The late rapper was shot during a home invasion in the Hollywood Hills. People also think his killers found out where he was through an Instagram post that accidentally gave away his rental address. Several men were arrested in that case and are pending trial.

Hip Hop Reacts

Meanwhile, Cardi B and DJ Akademiks didn’t want to blame PnB Rock’s death on anyone else. “I highly doubt nikkas was looking at PMB’s babymom IG. He was in a bad location and people stay outside plotting,” Cardi said. “It is very careless and rude to blame her for something so terrible. At this time, we should send her and his family nothing but love.” Akademiks also stated, “A lot of people are sad about PNB Rock’s death, and everyone is passing the buck except the nigga who actually killed him. He died because a bunch of jerks decided to rob him and take his life.”

Nicki Minaj also joined the conversation but had a different take. “After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. To show waffles & some fried chicken????! He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus.” Kodak Black reacted to the news by saying that PnB Rock’s fiancée was to blame for his death. “PnB was my boy, and last night I was OTP with them! We’re talking about him coming back out and popping his junk in this rap shite… This hoe might as well kill itself.”

PnB Rock Discussed Being A Target

A few days before he died, PnB Rock talked about how he felt he was being targeted by his foes. During an interview with Akademiks in September 2022, Rock said he felt like someone was tailing him and his family around L.A. “I be trying to be cool because you don’t want to be nervous,” he said. “You want to be as calm as possible.” The rapper further stated that robberies targeting rappers were “very regular” in Los Angeles. He told Akademiks that he didn’t go to places like nightclubs because “gangsters” would be looking for him there. He also said, “I’m not going to put myself in that situation because I know what happens.”

PnB Rock also talked about how, since his brother died, he has become more careful. “Since then, I’ve been moving in a different way,” he said. After PnB Rock’s death, Akademiks tweeted: “Wow.. this PNB Rock scenario crazy… I just did an interview with him a week ago, and he told me that someone tried to rob him in LA while he was out with his girlfriend and daughter.” He added, “Pray for PNB Rock, please.”

Girlfriend Reveals Her Struggles After Rapper’s Death

Stephanie Sibounheuang, who was dating PnB Rock, has taken to Instagram to share her grief. She detailed being next to him during the shooting and Rock pushing her to safety. It’s clear that Stephanie’s loss has been monumental, especially as she navigates life as a newly single mother. Further, Stephanie explained that Rock didn’t have life insurance or a will, making financial assistance difficult. The investigation into the suspects involved is ongoing. It is unclear when a trial can be expected.

PnB Rock’s Girlfriend Speaks On Life After His Death: “I’m Not Doing Well”

It was nothing short of a tragedy when PnB Rock was gunned down in Los Angeles. The Philadelphia rapper was with his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang, at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles restaurant when he was approached by assailants who demanded his jewelry. During the chaos, the thieves would become murderers, as they shot down the rapper in cold blood. It’s reported that he saved Sibounheuang by pushing her under a table.

A family has been arrested concerning the crime—a teen boy, his father, and his stepmother have all been charged. Sibounheuang has focused on raising their young daughter, and in a recent interview with Baller Alert, she shared what life has been like since losing the love of her life. “I’m not doing so well, but God is keeping me; he got to stand on me,” she said.

Sibounheuang also said she’d made lifestyle changes to help through the process. She’s practiced fasting and has given up smoking marijuana to strengthen her spiritually. “So, right now, I’m just on this journey with God. Like, I’m just walking with him, no distractions. I’m pure. I haven’t had, well, of course, I haven’t had sex with nobody, but I haven’t been talking to nobody. I’m just aligned with God.”

Not long after the death of the 30-year-old rapper, Sibounheuang shared a touching tribute on Instagram. “My man saved my life, Throwing me under that table. I’m not supposed to be here but bc of him. I am. No one would be able to handle this. TBH, I can’t even handle this. To witness what I saw and to keep seeing it in my head, to being forced out the restaurant, to not be able to go in the ambulance or the hospital, Car keys, purse and my phone taken from me, forced in the back of a police car, locked in an interrogation room all night, while all this is going on and to be the last person in this world to know my man didn’t make it after having the faith and confidence that he was.”
