ASAP Rocky Explains His Approach To Fashion: “I’m Drawn To Things That Others Look Past”

Call him what you want, pretty motherf*cker, fashion killa, or A$AP Rocky. Either way, he’s almost always the best-dressed in the room – and he knows it. Since he first came up as a rapper the New York native has carried himself with the utmost confidence, wearing whatever makes him feel (and look) like number one. Earlier this month Rocky – born Rakim Mayers – spoke with The Times about some of his personal style preferences, specifically explaining why he doesn’t go all-out for red-carpet events as some other celebs do.

“They look silly sometimes. Shout out to the people who actually execute,” the soon-to-be father of two told the outlet. He mentioned that he views his music and fashion in a similar light – they’re both methods of expression he enjoys using to surprise people. The self-proclaimed “godfather of mixing it up” also finds himself “naturally attracted to things that other people might find too obscure or too complicated.” Obviously, he’s referring to the hilarious shirt he sported during a recent trip to Japan, fully clad with miniature versions of him running through Paris in his Timbs.

ASAP Rocky is a Man Who Knows What He Likes

For Rocky, it’s all about what’s not obvious to the average eye. “I like to think I’m drawn to things that others look past. Since my first song, I’ve been rapping about Raf Simons and Rick Owens. It was also about mixing high-end with streetwear. I do that in my sleep,” he bragged. Elsewhere in their chat, the “Houston Old Head” hitmaker showed love to those in the fashion industry working hard to put together countless shows every season.

“I think going to a fashion show is the same as going to see an artist on stage – most people don’t realize what it takes. It’s incredible how they do it and I tip my hat to them,” he told The Times. A$AP Rocky Lashes Out At Club Patrons Fighting In Front Of Rihanna: “Act Like Gentleman”

Earlier this year, the lovers made headlines as the rapper proudly supported his partner during her Super Bowl Halftime performance, and following that, we saw them serve up countless incredible looks during their trip to Paris. More recently, Rocky and Rih caught a flight to Japan, where the New Yorker has been in the news for a variety of reasons, including wearing a meme t-shirt of himself running in Timbs.

Besides that funny fashion moment, A$AP is also receiving immense praise for the way he handled a situation unfolding in front of him and the “Desperado” songstress at a club over the weekend. In a video circulating online, a group of people begin fighting in front of the 34-year-old and Rihanna, prompting him to swiftly speak out. “Y’all n*ggas act like gentlemen right now, you heard?” he demanded. “I got my lady here, y’all n*ggas calm that,” Rocky added, reminding those in the vicinity that they were in the presence of a queen.

In the comments, many are commending the fashion lover for protecting Rihanna from any energy that might stress her out, even if it wasn’t directly aimed toward her.

A$AP Rocky’s Iconic Paris Timbs Running Photo Appears All Over His New Shirt

A$AP Rocky has had a lot of big moments so far this year. First was watching his partner, Rihanna, reveal the news of their second baby during her Super Bowl Halftime performance. Later, he took over Paris with his incredible street style. A few weeks back, the New Yorker was seen filming a music video in the city of love. At the time, he impressively sprinted through the streets wearing blue jeans, a white tee, and of course, Timberland boots. The shoes certainly would’ve made it impossible for nearly anyone else to move with such speed.

Footage of the hilarious moment subsequently went viral online, causing many to laugh at the 34-year-old’s antics. While it’s mostly been forgotten about by now in favour of other stories, Rocky reminded us of his European escapades this weekend by wearing a shirt paying tribute to the moment. In a clip that’s making rounds, the Testing rapper wears a white tee covered with various miniature versions of him mid-run in his infamous outfit. As High Snobiety reports, A$AP meme’d himself while currently in Japan with Rihanna, completing the look with Dior sneakers. The brand responsible for putting him on a shirt is @waaaavyyy, and they’ve also created matching jeans in the same pattern. It remains unclear if the soon-to-be father of two received the full outfit, though we do know he’s promised the arrival of his highly anticipated “Don’t Be Dumb” visual in the near future.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the multi-talent poke fun at his own viral moments. They also just celebrated the first birthday of their son, RZA, yesterday (May 13). In true billionaire style, the Bad Gal and her beau went all-out for their party, spoiling the stylish infant with a money cake, along with plenty of other special moments before he officially becomes a big brother.

RZA’s second trip around the sun began with a heartwarming message from his father on Instagram. “‘WU TANG IZ 4 DA CHUREN.’ HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO MY 1ST BORN,” Rocky captioned his photo dump, which includes various photos and videos of him posing with his mini-me. Just a couple of days after news broke of their son’s name, A$AP Rocky shared an adorable Instagram post wishing his firstborn child with Rihanna, their son RZA, a happy first birthday. With it, he not only confirmed the name but paid further tribute to the Wu-Tang Clan, one of whose iconic members is the namesake of the little one. “‘WU TANG IZ 4 DA CHUREN,’”Rocky wrote, referencing Wu member Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s historic (and interruptive) speech at the Grammys. “HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY TO MY 1st BORN. RZA.” He also shared a lot of cute snaps with his kid and with RiRi.

What’s more is that RZA’s name puts the couple previous fits into mind-blowing context. Of course, there’s a lot to choose from, as the two are always turning heads for their style and fashion sense. However, the hint was in our faces all along, albeit quite the hard hint to catch from just a sweater. While out on the town with A$AP Rocky, Rihanna was pictured wearing a Wu-Tang jersey, which is the kind of small tease that seems so intentional in hindsight.

Rihanna Brings Bridal Energy In New 2023 Met Gala Photos With A$AP Rocky

Much like her arrival at the actual event, Rihanna is sharing her 2023 Met Gala photo dumps fashionably late. The annual event unfolded on the first Monday of May, but it wasn’t until Friday (May 5), that the “Rude Boy” singer’s Instagram feed lit up with more photos of her and the rapper’s tributes to Karl Lagerfeld. She first surfaced on the red carpet in a white, floral gown that’s been compared to icing piped on top of a cupcake on Twitter, but by the end of her walk, Rih revealed a beautiful white gown underneath, which perfectly hugged her quickly growing baby bump.

The 35-year-old looked undeniably bridal in her bright ensemble, and Rocky looked as dapper as ever by her side. He kept it business on the top half, layering a sharp black blazer over a white button-up and a thin tie. A$AP Rocky was set to attend the 2023 Met Gala, but it appeared he was running a bit late. Earlier in the evening, Rihanna was spotted entering The Carlyle Hotel solo. Then, to some fans’ surprise, Rocky was hopping a barricade to enter the building while other fans were strolling out.

He would later emerge dressed, next to a stunning Rihanna.

The next day A$AP Rocky hit Twitter with an apology.

The responses to Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s two Met Gala appearances together have been mixed. In 2021, the famous pair went with oversized vibes. The rapper used a blanket as a cloak while his partner wore an extra-long Balenciaga coat, keeping herself concealed. They previously skipped out on appearing in 2022. This year, however, Rihanna made it clear she would be stepping out in style. Last weekend, she teased the big news in a vintage Chanel outfit during a dinner in New York. Some have said that Rih’s prelude look was even better than the one she served at the main event.

While her extravagant, floral design, accessorized with eyelash-clad sunglasses obviously wasn’t for everyone, the look the expecting mother wore for Dua Lipa’s after-party has the internet singing her praise. The all-white set was put together just for Rihanna by Chrome Hearts. It comfortably conceals her upper half while allowing her budding baby bump to sit above the matching skirt, which comes with a flirtatious slit up the front.
