Yo Gotti Delays His New Album ‘CM10’ After The Murder Of His Late Rival, Young Dolph

Fans are convinced that Memphis rapper Yo Gotti delayed the release of his new double album CM10 out of deference for his late rival Young Dolph, who was murdered in their shared hometown earlier this month. Gotti, who had been hyping the new project’s release planned for this Friday, November 25, instead posted on Instagram announcing that it had been given a “new date” and advising fans to “stay tuned.”

The double project is to consist of two albums, Free and Game, according to Gotti’s Instagram post announcing the release last week. “I’m going against what everybody told me,” he wrote. “‘Dropping 2 Albums on the Same day DONT MAKE SENSE.’ Me: I’m an Ex-Drug Dealer Turned Executive NONE OF THIS SH!T MAKES SENSE.”

Some fans quickly expressed their belief that he’d delayed the album as a result of the recent murder of his fallen foe Dolph, with whom he’s feuded for the past five years. Their feud extended to their respective label crews, Collective Music Group and Paper Route Empire, to the point that Gotti’s Memphis restaurant was temporarily shut down by police after Dolph’s death as a precaution. Although the two rappers have traded musical insults over the years, fans think that Gotti is using the additional time to remove references to Dolph — either out of respect or self-preservation — to avoid speaking ill of the dead.

Young Dolph’s Family Releases A Statement Honoring The Rapper After His Death

Today marks one week since Young Dolph was tragically shot and killed in his hometown of Memphis. The rapper was at Makeda’s Cookies, a bakery he frequently visited, when two men pulled to the property and fired shots into the bakery. Investigators continue to work towards finding the two suspects in the matter as they recently released images from surveillance camera footage that shows the two individuals moments before they began firing. As close friends, family, and fans continue to grieve his death, Young Dolph’s family released a statement that reflected on their loss.

“There are no words that exist, that sufficiently express the pain we are feeling as a family,” they wrote according to Complex. “Losing Adolph, Dolph, Man-Man, changes our lives forever. And while we will take each day as it comes, we are comforted in knowing that he leaves a legacy that reflects his heart. A heart that was for his family. A heart that was for the people.” They continued:

We are grateful for the outpouring of love. We are grateful that his godly obligation to show kindness to the world is being acknowledged.

As a family, we were blessed to call him our son, our nephew, our brother, our cousin, our partner and our Father. And now, we have the honor of calling him our angel. A role he has always played.

Dolph’s family also released the statement with a quote from author Rudyard Kipling. “If you can talk with the crowd and keep your virtue, or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,” it read. “If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run- Yours is the earth and everything that’s in it, And-which is more-you’ll be a man my son.”

The Car Used In Young Dolph’s Murder Has Been Linked To Another Shooting Near Memphis

Investigators are still working to find the two suspects responsible for Young Dolph’s murder last week. Authorities have already shared photos from surveillance camera footage that capture the shooters moments before they fired into Makeda’s Cookies, a bakery in Memphis that Dolph frequently visited. Now, Tennessee police officials have connected the vehicle used in Dolph’s murder to another shooting that occurred earlier this month. The white Mercedes Benz that the suspects used in Dolph’s shooting was also used during a November 12 shooting in Covington, Tennessee, which is about 40 miles north of Memphis according to NBC News.

Captain Jack Howell of the Covington Police Department says the Mercedes followed another vehicle after a high school game earlier this month. When it came to a stop at an intersection, two individuals exited the Mercedes and fired about 40 rounds from high-powered rifles into the other car, which was occupied by two women. One of the car’s occupants died from their injuries while the other remains hospitalized. Howell said Covington police are working with Memphis officials in order to find the suspects, who they believe are from the Memphis area. The connection between the two crimes was made when the Mercedes was discovered in a Memphis neighborhood on Saturday.

The news comes after Dolph’s longtime partner Mia Jaye and Key Glock, who was Dolph’s cousin by marriage and is also signed to the later rapper’s label Paper Route Empire, both shared touching tributes to Dolph on Instagram.

Key Glock Compares Young Dolph To Phil Jackson In A Heartfelt Tribute

After posting his initial thoughts on the death of his mentor and friend Young Dolph, Memphis rapper Key Glock has followed up with a heartfelt tribute in which he describes the Paper Route Empire boss as his coach, comparing Dolph to the great Phil Jackson. Of course, that makes Key Glock the Michael Jackson of this analogy.

“Damn bro, I’m LOST,” he wrote. “My heart is torn my brain ’bout to explode. It HURTS when I breathe… Why you leave me so soon?? I’ll never be the same, you was my lefthand man, my brother, my cousin, my mentor, and drank partner. For the past 2 years I been taking LOSS AFTER LOSS and still can’t understand why… You was Phil Jackson and I was yo MJ.”

Key Glock had been signed to Dolph’s label for nearly the entirety of his rap career so far, truly taking off in 2019 when he and Dolph collaborated on the joint mixtape Dum And Dummer. Since then, he had flourished under Dolph’s guidance, dropping no less than four projects over the last two years, including his debut album Yellow Tape and mixtape Son Of A Gun, in 2020, Dum And Dummer 2 earlier this year, and Yellow Tape 2 earlier this month. He also contributed to the Paper Route Empire label compilation Paper Route Illuminati this summer.

With Dolph gone, the future of the label remains uncertain but for those who were closest to Dolph, the true loss is of their friend, mentor, and greatest champion.
