Jack Harlow Is Headed To The Golden State For His ‘Crème De La Crème California’ 2022 Tour

There’s no doubt that Jack Harlow has had a stellar year thus far. The rapper earned his first No. 1 single for his Lil Nas X collaboration “Industry Baby” and was nominated for two Grammys. He’s also finishing up a sold-out tour in his Kentucky home state, but he doesn’t want to make the rest of the country feel left out. That’s why he’s just announced an eight-show run in California early next year.

Taking to social media to announce his Crème De La Crème California tour set for early January, Harlow wrote, “California… I never meant to make you feel left out. Please forgive me. Let’s run this Creme De La Creme Tour one last time.”

Jack Harlow Credits The ‘Harry Potter’ Books For Making Him A Better Lyricist

Jack Harlow has come a long way since he first started making music. In fact, he recently shared a photo of his 2018 tour that showed less than 20 people in the crowd. That’s why it was especially meaningful for him to be named Hitmaker Of Tomorrow by Variety, who awarded the rapper at their star-studded Hitmaker Brunch over the weekend. While on stage, Harlow told the crowd that he credits his love for the written word to his childhood days of reading Harry Potter books.

Harlow walked on stage to accept the award and during his speech, the rapper shared a story about his youth. He recalled the time when he was in second grade and he won a book-reading contest thanks the reading all the Harry Potter books he could find:

“So we get to the end of the school year and there’s a big assembly. The entire school is there, in my memory at least it feels like a stadium full of people. The climax of this assembly is the staff announcing the top three students who had read the most, or at least, had been credited the most points for reading. In third place they announce some fifth grader, he goes up and they give him his trophy. Second place, another fifth grader — he goes up, they give him a trophy. And in first place, a second grader, they called my name. And I had beat the entire school. I won by a landslide, I probably had quadruple whatever second place had. […] It was a competition and it brought out the competitor in me, which is a big part of the genre I’m in. All that reading is what made me the writer I am now and I’m pretty sure it’s what going to make me the hitmaker of tomorrow.”

Jack Harlow Reunited With A Fan Who Was At His Sparsely Attended First-Ever Concert

At a recent concert, Jack Harlow had a reunion with a day-one fan and the story behind it is a good one.

A few days ago, ahead of a show in Birmingham, Alabama, Harlow shared a photo from his first-ever concert, a photo that didn’t feature more than a couple dozen people in the audience. The rapper wrote, “This is a photo of me performing at the very first show on my first tour ever. I was in Birmingham, Alabama in January 2018. Tonight is the last show of the tour I’m currently on…and we are finishing in Birmingham. It’s sold out. Thank u.”

Well, at his latest Birmingham show, one of the people pictured in the original photo was in attendance. The fan — Bryce Jones, a meteorologist for WDRB News in Louisville, Kentucky — shared a TikTok video that summarizes the story and includes a photo of himself and others with Harlow at the 2018 show.

He also included footage of Harlow pointing him out during the more recent show. Harlow spoke about the photo he shared and said, “There was probably 19 people in the building. I thought I was famous: I wasn’t. But I just realized that this fan in the [University Of Kentucky] hoodie is right there! […] Make some noise for my man right here. I love you, man. Thank you so much for sticking with me.”

Jack Harlow Stopped His Concert Once He Realized His ‘Idol’ Drake Was In The Crowd

It’s no secret that Louisville rapper Jack Harlow credits his success to the hip-hop greats that came before him. One of the musicians that he looks up to the most is Drake, who he previously named his favorite rapper. While he’s also noted that Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Jay-Z have also influenced his music, Drake is definitely at the top of his list. That’s why he stopped a recent concert when he looked up to realize that among the crowd was none other than the Certified Lover Boy rapper.

Harlow made a tour stop in Toronto this week in support of his 2020 album, Thats What They All Say. After performing a few songs from his set, Harlow stopped the show once he saw Drake leaning over the balcony. “Tonight was a dream come true to me for more than one reason. First off, you sold this b*tch out,” he said into the microphone. “Second, I was halfway through my performance and I seen my idol looking at me, man. Toronto, make some noise for the G.O.A.T. one time!”

Jack Harlow Tries To Explain Kanye West’s Latest Stunts: ‘He Sees Himself As Mozart Or Beethoven’

With the artist formerly known as Kanye West running around in spooky masks weeks before Halloween and pulling other attention-grabbing stunts like renting a room at the stadium in which he held the listening events for his latest album, it’s getting harder and harder to understand where the once-relatable artist is coming from. However, if anyone were to have a shot at coming close, it would be one of the two artists who most recently worked with West to secure a No. 1 hit record.

In a new interview with British GQ, Jack Harlow — who worked with Kanye West and Lil Nas X on the hit single “Industry Baby” — takes a stab at explaining Ye’s oddball behavior of late. “I think he sees himself as Mozart or Beethoven,” he guesses. “I think he’s worried, not about what it looks like now but what it will look like in 100 years. Take what happened with the Taylor Swift situation: at the time it was all pitchforks, but now people treat that as iconic. I am always fascinated to see what he does next. This Donda roll-out, people are going to remember that for years.”

People may remember the rollout, but the music itself received a lukewarm reception from both critics and fans. You can read Uproxx’s review here. Elsewhere in Jack’s interview, he addresses his often fraught relationship with race as a white hip-hop artist. “I think what has worked for me is that my music has never been about the fact that I am white,” he hypothesizes. “I don’t try to lean into the, ‘Hey, I’m the white boy.’ I try not to make it a novelty. I rap from the heart, rather than trying to do a white version of the art form.”

Jack Harlow Throws A Lively Louisville Party In His ‘Luv Is Dro’ Video With Static Major And Bryson Tiller

When Jack Harlow released his debut album That’s What They All Say earlier this year, one of its standout tracks turned out to be “Luv Is Dro,” on which he linked up with fellow Louisville natives Bryson Tiller and the late Static Major. Now, Harlow has released a lively video for the single, which shows love to the three artists’ shared hometown and sees Bryson and Jack putting their mack down at a nostalgic 2000s party (kids are throwing “old school” 2000s parties — am I old now??) full of throwback jerseys and airbrushed tall tees.

Harlow previously detailed the origins of “Luv Is Dro” for HipHopDX, explaining that Static’s widow specifically wanted him on track due to his rising profile. “We sat on it for two years trying to get it right and get Bryson on it,” he recalled, saying that although it took a long time because Bryson “takes his time with everything,” it was important to do the song right to represent their city well. Getting to do that record for Kentucky is huge,” he enthused. “… This song is something I can hang my hat on for the rest of my life. It’s already a classic where I’m from.”

To keep that hometown love vibe going Jack is doing a mini-tour, There’s No Place Like Home, at five iconic venues throughout the city. He also recently donated to five Louisville non-profits.

Jack Harlow Shows Louisville Some Love With Five ‘No Place Like Home’ Tour Dates

As a 2020 XXL Freshman Class member, Jack Harlow has been on a fast track to stardom. But even with his newfound fame and recent No. 1 single (“Industry Baby” with Lil Nas X), Harlow hasn’t forgotten his Louisville, Kentucky hometown. The rapper has oftentimes credited the city for their support early on in his career. So, to thank his hometown fans, Harlow plans to play several back-to-back shows in Louisville later this year.

The rapper recently unveiled five dates across five different venues for his No Place Like Home tour, which kicks off December 14 and comes to a close on the 18th. Along with playing shows in his home city, Harlow recently made some charitable donations to Louisville organizations including AMPED, Center For Women And Families, Grace M. James Academy Of Excellence, Louisville Urban League, and Metro United Way.

“I spent all my life fantasizing about being someone that could put Louisville on a pedestal,” he said about the donations in a recent interview with Billboard. “There’s a spirit and pride that runs deep, and it becomes more obvious to me when I travel to other cities and realize that that doesn’t exist everywhere.”

Check out Harlow’s No Place Like Home dates below.

Lil Nas X And Jack Harlow Are Pumped About ‘Industry Baby’ Finally Reaching No. 1 On The Hot 100 Chart

Lil Nas X released his Jack Harlow-featuring single “Industry Baby” back in July 23, but it was held back from having a No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: It made its first chart appearance at No. 2 on the August 7 tally, the same week that BTS’ “Butter” became the longest-running No. 1 song of the year. Now, well over a month after its chart debut, “Industry Baby” is finally on top, as it’s No. 1 on the new Hot 100 dated October 23.

The song is Nas’ third chart-topper, after “Old Town Road” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” Meanwhile, it’s Harlow’s first No. 1, as his previous peak was at No. 2 with “Whats Poppin” and pre-No. 1 “Industry Baby.”

Both rappers were over the moon about the achievement. Nas wrote on Twitter, “IT TOOK A FEW MONTHS BUT WE HERE! THANK U EVERYBODY! INDUSTRY BABY IS THE NUMBER 1 SONG IN THE WORLD! LESSSSSGOOOOOO!” Harlow also wrote, “My first number one… I’d be lying if I said I didn’t see this coming while I was writing my verse. This song is something I’m gonna be proud to be a part of for the rest of my life. Thank you for having me @LilNasX.”

This song is also a big one for Ye (the artist known until recently as Kanye West), as it’s his fifth No. 1 song as a producer. It was a good week for Ed Sheeran, too, as “Bad Habits” (No. 4) and “Shivers” (No. 10) are both in the top 10. This is the second time he has had two tracks simultaneously in the top 10, the previous time coming in January 2017 when “Shape Of You” and “Castle On The Hill” charted at Nos. 1 and 6, respectively.
