Rod Wave Was Reportedly Arrested For Battery By Strangulation

Florida rapper Rod Wave has reportedly been arrested in his home state and charged with battery by strangulation, according to XXL based on Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office online records. As of press time, he was still in custody and awaiting arraignment (meaning he has yet to go before a judge to enter a plea or have bail determined). Understandably, details are limited, but may be forthcoming. Stay tuned.

The timing is certainly inopportune. The breakout crooner had just announced the title and release date of his fourth studio album, Beautful Mind, over the weekend. Due June 3 on Alamo Records, the project will be Rod’s fourth in as many years beginning in 2019 with Ghetto Gospel. In 2020, he followed up with Pray 4 Love, which was warmly received, landing at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Then, in 2021, he improved on that showing with Soulfly, which ended its first week at No. 1 on the chart.

Although the St. Petersburg rapper was mostly radio silent in the year since releasing Soulfly, he has kept his buzz alive with a few new singles, including “Nirvana,” which he had to clarify after some fans interpreted it as a possible suicide note, and “Cold December,” his first single of 2022.

Rod Wave Announces His Fourth Album ‘Beautiful Mind’ And Shares Its Release Date

Since his breakout single, “Heart On Ice,” in 2019, Florida native Rod Wave has made sure to give his growing fan base a new project to indulge in for each year that followed. It includes 2019’s Ghetto Gospel and 2020’s Pray 4 Love with the latter peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The following year, Rod’s career reached new heights when he dropped his third album Soulfly. That body of work topped the albums chart making it clear that Rod was much closer to stardom than some may have believed.

A little over a year after Rod earned his first No. 1 album, he returns with an announcement about his upcoming fourth album. According to HipHopNMore, in a freestyle he recorded over Future’s “Wait For U” with Drake and Tems, Rod Wave revealed that his next project is titled Beautiful Mind. He also confirmed that it is set to arrive on June 3. Rod Wave also went as far as to say that the album was turned in last Monday, making it clear that the project is truly complete.

Rod Wave’s announcement comes after he dropped his “Cold December” single, which will presumably appear on Beautiful Mind. He also caused a bit of controversy with his late 2021 song “Nirvana” as many took the track to be a suicide letter, which Rod Wave emphatically denied.

Beautiful Mind is out 6/3 via Alamo Records.

Rod Wave Laments Lost Loves In His Wistful ‘Cold December’ Video

With his third studio album slated for an early 2022 release, Rod Wave begins his latest campaign with a sentimental new single, “Cold December.” Looking back on his uneven love life, Rod croons, “It’s safe to say I been this way since I was eighteen / The same night I fall in love, I feel it fadin’.” In the accompanying video, a young actor reenacts Rod’s lyrics as he recounts various flings through the years from the porch of a snow-covered cabin.

Rod made his return this week after a high-flying 2021 that saw him release his second studio album, SoulFly, which became his first-ever No. 1 album. He also became a highly-coveted feature artist, appearing on tracks alongside Polo G, Lil Baby, and Lil Durk, assisting Polo on the song “Heart Of A Giant” from Polo’s own chart-topping effort Hall Of Fame and contributing to Baby and Durk’s The Voice Of The Heroes cut, “Rich Off Pain.”

Polo returned the favor on Rod’s SoulFly single “Richer,” while Rod’s singles “Street Runner” and “Tombstone” helped propel the project to No. 1 debut. After the album’s release, Rod followed up with the singles “Time Heals” and “Already Won” with Lil Durk.
