Yungeen Ace Arrested For Gun Possession, Mugshot Surfaces Online

26-year-old Yungeen Ace is living through what may prove to be one of the most emotionally tumultuous weeks of his life. Shortly after sharing news of his brother’s death on Instagram, XXL reports that Keyanta Bullard was detained by police in Jacksonville in the early hours of Monday (April 15) morning. Documents obtained by the outlet reveal he’s now at Duval County Jail, where he faces charges of possessing a firearm, weapon, or ammunition as a convicted felon. His first court appearance took place on Tuesday afternoon, but at the time of publication, Ace seems to still be in police custody. At this time, other details surrounding the arrest remain unclear.

It’s obvious that the Florida-based artist was already in distress at the time, as he had only recently shared online that his brother died. “D**n big bro, you really f**ked mama up [with this],” Ace wrote on his Story. “Both my 💔💔 gone.” We’re unsure how the rapper’s older sibling lost his life, but his younger brother, Trevon Bullard, was the target of a 2019 drive-by shooting. Ace miraculously managed to survive being shot eight times during that incident, though the younger Bullard didn’t make it out.

Why Is Yungeen Ace in Police Custody?

All of this trauma is likely hitting the “Shots Fired” rhymer hard, especially considering how proud he felt after unleashing Forgotten Star and a new music video for the aforementioned song. The 15-track featureless LP was Ace’s first release since 2022’s Survivor of the Trenches, which included appearances from SleazyWorld Go, EST Gee, Real Boston Richey, and Rob49.

Yungeen Ace isn’t the only young lyricist we’ve seen land in hot water with the police this month. Just a few days ago, Chicago’s Polo G was arrested after hotel staff allegedly found a gun left behind in his room. Read all about that incident at the link below, and check back in with HNHH later for more music/pop culture news updates.

Pouya Reveals XXXTentacion Helped Him During His Girlfriend’s Cancer Diagnosis

Pouya is an influential figure. His early mixtapes, coupled with YouTube channel Nick and Pouya Show, influenced a generation of Florida emcees. XXXTentacion was one of these emcees, as evidenced by an interview clip that was recently posted on social media. X praised Pouya and Denzel Curry as inspirations on his sound. Pouya had never seen the interview clip prior to its resurfacing, and was so overcome with emotion that he shared his experiences with the “Sad” hitmaker on Instagram.

The rapper told followers that he was humbled by XXXTentacion’s comments. “Wow someone just sent me this, I never seen this before,” he wrote. ” Damn man, this made me happy and sad at the same time.” The real revelation came, however, when the rapper started to reflect on a difficult period in his life. A period that was alleviated, somewhat, and aided by X’s presence. Pouya revealed that X was there for him when his girlfriend, Coco, was battling cancer, and offered unconditional support in the process. “I never really talk about this but when Coco was going through cancer X would FaceTime me all the time,” he recalled. “[He’d] give me advice on how to get through it, sucks that he’s gone. Idk this s**t put a fire in me.”

Pouya Claimed XXXTentacion Gave Him Advice

Pouya’s admiration for XXXTentacion has been well-documented. The rapper penned a tribute to X on his 2019 album The South Got Something To Say. The tribute was titled “When Will I See You?” and it features bars in which X’s death prompted him to consider his own mortality. “Murder, overdose, and suicide,” he raps. “Am I the next one to die? Will I fly with Peep or fry? X is written up in the sky.” These thoughts are still weighing heavy on Pouya’s shoulders, evidently, as the rapper recently announced his plans to retire from hip-hop.

Days before his post on XXXTentacion, Pouya issued an official retirement statement. He informed fans that he will stop releasing music after his upcoming album, Album 6. “After grey day and my album, I’m going to be stepping away from music,” he wrote. “It’s been f**king fun but I’m exhausted. Love you f**kers though.” There’s no set release date for Album 6, but fans eager to listen to more Pouya can currently stream his new EP All But 6, Vol. 2 with Fat Nick.

The University of Florida Shuts Down DEI

University of Florida's recent decision to shut down its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices and terminate diversity employees has sparked controversy and ignited a wave of criticism

The University of Florida’s recent decision to shut down its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices and terminate diversity employees has sparked controversy and ignited a wave of criticism. The move, which surprised many within and outside the institution, has raised questions about the university’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion on campus.

The decision to dismantle DEI offices and terminate diversity employees has been met with widespread condemnation from students, faculty, alumni, and advocacy groups. Critics argue that such actions undermine the university’s efforts to create an inclusive environment and send a troubling message about its priorities and values.

One of the primary concerns critics raise is the impact of these closures on marginalized communities within the university. DEI offices often play a crucial role in providing support, resources, and advocacy for students and faculty from underrepresented backgrounds. By dismantling these offices, the university risks alienating these communities and exacerbating existing disparities in access and support.

Furthermore, the termination of diversity employees has been viewed as a significant setback for promoting diversity and inclusion in higher education. These individuals often serve as critical advocates and educators, working to raise awareness about issues of race, gender, sexuality, and other forms of marginalization. Without their presence, there are fears that the university’s commitment to diversity may be compromised.

The decision to shut down DEI offices and terminate diversity employees has also raised broader questions about the state of diversity initiatives in academia. While many institutions have made efforts to prioritize diversity and inclusion in recent years, instances like this highlight the fragility of these initiatives and the challenges they face in the face of budget cuts and shifting priorities.

In response to the backlash, university officials have defended their decision, citing financial constraints and the need to streamline operations. They have pledged to continue supporting diversity efforts through other means, such as integrating diversity training into existing programs and initiatives.

However, many remain unconvinced by these assurances, arguing that the closure of DEI offices represents a symbolic and substantive blow to diversity efforts on campus. Calls for transparency, accountability, and reinstatement of DEI offices and diversity employees have grown louder after the controversy.

As the University of Florida grapples with the fallout from its decision, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing challenges in advancing diversity and inclusion in higher education. It underscores the importance of vigilant advocacy and activism in holding institutions accountable for their commitments to equity and justice. Only through sustained effort and dialogue can universities truly fulfill their promise of providing an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all.

YNW Melly Re-Trial Delayed Again

The re-trial of YNW Melly has been delayed for a third time after the defense filed another motion to dismiss. Jury selection is now scheduled for March, which was the original start date of the second delay. There is no anticipated timeframe for the trial’s new start date. This comes after Melly’s team requested a continuance in December 2023 and waived the rapper’s right to a speedy trial. That move, presumably made to give the defense more time to prepare its case, means that there is no end in sight for Melly.

However, the stakes could also not be higher for the Florida rapper. Legal maneuvers made after his first trial ended in a mistrial mean that the threshold for a death penalty, if found guilty, has been lowered. While Melly still needs to be found guilty, the jury would only need eight votes to sentence him to death. Melly is charged with double-homicide, as well as a litany of conspiracy and witness tampering charges.

YNW Melly Tries To Block Use Of Song Lyrics

Meanwhile, Melly’s attorney is also attempting to block the prosecution from using the rapper’s lyrics as evidence. “To receive something this late in the game is just part and parcel of what they’ve been doing the entire time,” Raven Liberty said. Additionally, Liberty also noted that the prosecution had agreed as far back as 2020 that they would not use song lyrics as evidence. The admissibility of the lyrics is yet to be ruled on, especially given the latest delay in the start of the trial.

The use of song lyrics as evidence is a controversial practice. There is a Supreme Court-mandated ban on it in New Jersey and heavy restrictions on the practice in California. However, it is still allowed in the state of Florida. Additionally, it was a major point of contention in 2023. Over in Georgia, Fulton County DA Fani Willis came out as a vocal advocate of the practice. This was especially notable during her prosecuting of the YSL RICO trial involving Young Thug.
