Earthgang Throws A Wild House Party In Their ‘Options Remix’ Video With Coi Leray And Wale

Earthgang is well-known by now for the spacey, surreal visuals that accompanied their debut album Mirrorland, but with their latest rollout, they’ve gone for a more down-to-earth approach. While the initial video for “Options” with Wale featured Claymation analogs for the Atlanta duo and their guest, the grounded storyline revolved more around the mechanics of relationships and dating. The video for the remix, which added breakout artist Coi Leray to the mix, strips down the concept further, landing all four rappers at a debauched house party.

Earthgang, who recently used their notoriety to help fund a community garden at a local Atlanta school, have been somewhat cagey about a follow-up to Mirrorland, joking that it would drop on the same day as J. Cole’s album before admitting that they didn’t even know when their Dreamville boss would be putting his album out (that album, The Off-Season, has since released to an impressive commercial response).

Meanwhile, the ATLiens have kept themselves in the pop culture conversation with releases like “Aretha” and their take on Drake’s “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” as well as returning to performing at New Zealand festival Bay Dreams and the upcoming Dreamville On The Rocks in Colorado, among others.

Earthgang And Wale Welcome Coi Leray For A Boastful Remix Of ‘Options’

Earthgang has been patiently waiting for a while now to get the ball rolling for their upcoming sophomore album, Ghetto Gods. After a bit of a wait, it appears that the Dreamville duo is now in full rollout mode for the project. Their latest release isn’t a brand new single, but rather, a remix of a past track that definitely deserved more love than it got. Earthgang recruits Coi Leray for a fresh take of “Options,” a track that also carries a verse from Wale. The new version begins with Leray crooning through a verse focused on her options in the dating world while the rap duo provides new verses for listeners to enjoy.

Johnny Venus of Earthgang previously spoke about the underwhelming success of “Options” on their most recent track, “Aretha.” “‘Options‘ dropped, barely made a sound, damn / I guess we let Nas and Cole down,” he said. The new remix joins a string of recent releases that will hopefully bring us to the release of Ghetto Gods. In addition to the “Options” remix and “Aretha,” Earthgang also shared a remix of Drake’s “Lemon Pepper Freestyle.”

Coi Leray has also been active lately. She recently dropped her third single of the year with “Bout Me” and shortly after, she joined DDG and OG Parker for “Impatient.”

You can press play on the remix above.

Gunna, Wale, And Trae Tha Truth Feed 2,000 Families In Houston

With thousands of people in the South still struggling in the aftermath of a winter storm that knocked out power in Texas and froze pipes in Jackson, Mississippi (folks there haven’t had clean water for two weeks), the hip-hop community continues to pitch in to help out. After Travis Scott partnered with the city of Houston to deliver food to 50,000 residents, another hometown hero, Trae Tha Truth, recruited some assistance from friends Gunna and Wale to hand out food, water, and household supplies at a giveaway in the parking lot of Sunnyside’s Worthing High School, helping feed 2,000 families with Goodr.

Houston and hip-hop have long gone together thanks to personalities like Megan Thee Stallion and Travis Scott putting on for the city, but this year, it seemed rappers were more intent on exploiting Texas’ lax COVID safety laws, drawing the ire of Houston’s mayor and residents. Bow Wow held a huge, unmasked concert there in January just after an event featuring Fabolous and Trey Songz was shut down over capacity issues. With so many outsiders taking advantage of the city, it’s a relief to see some banding together with locals to help each other out of the crisis situation.

Gunna and Wale recently collaborated on the song “Flawed,” for which the two rappers released a video in November.
