Ryan Trey Implores A Potential Lover In His ‘Only Us’ Video Featuring Babyface Ray

St. Louis rapper-singer Ryan Trey is having quite the breakout. A trapsoul crooner in the mold of 6lack and Bryson Tiller, Ryan Trey has made a name for himself by blending booming, washed-out beats with a vocal delivery that swings easily from melodic rapping to all-out belting. Last year, he dropped his debut album, A 64 East Saga, accumulating more attention and plenty of streams. Today, he teams up with another rising Midwesterner to kick off his next phase, tapping Detroit’s Babyface Ray for “Only Us,” a single of sultry come-ons for a potential paramour.

In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, he remarked on the similarity that some fans have noticed between him and Bryson Tiller, with whom he collaborated on “Nowhere to Run.” “I didn’t intentionally mean for that to sound that similar, but if that’s the record where I pay homage to Bryson, then that’s great, honestly,” he said. “Bryson is someone who really opened a lot of doors for me. I don’t ever mind the constant comparisons, because it’s just human nature to compare artists to the closest similar thing to them at first. For example, I love Don Toliver, but it took me this most recent project he just dropped for me to completely separate him from Travis Scott. It’s just human nature. So I’m never bothered by the comparisons because even I do it as a fan.”

French Montana Is Making Steady Moves On The Slick ‘Drive By’ With Babyface Ray

It was just six months ago that French Montana released his fourth album They Got Amnesia. The project was the rapper’s first full project since 2019’s Montana and it delivered 21 tracks and features from Rick Ross, Kodak Black, Pop Smoke, Lil Durk, Doja Cat, Saweetie, Fivio Foreign, Ty Dolla Sign, Moneybagg Yo, and many more. While some might have thought that it would be a little while until French released a new project, that won’t be the case as he announced his upcoming Montega album produced by Harry Fraud. Ahead of the project’s arrival, French steps forth with its latest single.

French arrives with the Harry Fraud-produced “Drive By” alongside Detroit rapper Babyface Ray as the first offering from Montega. The record is a hard-hitting release that’s elevated thanks to Harry’s crisp production, French’s steady but determined flow, and Babyface’s laid-back flexing. The new track follows “Alcatraz,” a record French used to address the “curse from the Kardashians.”

The new track arrives shortly after French seemingly concluded the promotional run behind his fourth album They Got Amnesia. Through it, he released videos for “Mopstick” with Kodak, “Push Start” with 42 Dugg and Coi Leray, “How You King?,” “Handstand” with Doja and Saweetie, “Bag Season” with Lil Tjay, “Panicking” with Fivio, “Business,” and “FWMGAB (Remix)” with Moneybagg Yo.

As for French’s Montega project, that’s set to arrive later this month on June 24.

You can listen to “Drive By” in the video above.

Montega is out 6/24 via Epic Records. You can pre-order it here.

Kendrick Lamar, ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’

Jay-Z Highlights Babyface Ray, Kodak Black, And More In His New Memorial Day Playlist For Tidal

Another holiday, another chance for Jay-Z to re-up his rap nerd credibility. This time around, Jay’s new Tidal playlist is called “Montecito” and landed on the streaming app on Memorial Day with the description “(Mostly) ’22 vibes.” The one exception that prompts the qualifier is Kodak Black’s 2021 hit “Super Gremlin,” which extended its run far beyond its October 2021 release date as one of the more popular recent singles in rap.

Kodak also appears multiple times on the playlist, with Jay including “Purple Stamp” and “I Wish” from the Floridian’s 2022 project Back For Everything. Other artists Jay included multiple times are Detroit upstart Babyface Ray, whose Face track “A1 Since Day 1” leads off the playlist, and 42 Dugg & EST Gee, the dynamic duo whose joint mixtape Last Ones Left was the brainchild of their CMG team captain, Yo Gotti. Speaking of Yo Gotti, the Memphis mainstay also gets multiple selections from his own new project CM10: Free Game.

Of course, Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers gets a few entries, as do Future and Lil Durk, while Boldy James, Pusha T, and Vince Staples are all represented with a track apiece. And because having one problematic entity in Kodak Black apparently wasn’t enough, Jay gave some “True Love” to his musical younger brother Kanye West’s new track with XXXTentacion. If anything is missing, it’s some female representation; you’d think Jay would love the throwback vibe of Megan Thee Stallion’s new track “Plan B.”

As always, though, the new playlist proves that Hov keeps his ears to the street, even if he’s not actively recording any new music himself. And for the newer or more underground artists receiving some spotlight, it’s a chance to tap in with new fans who recognize Jay’s nearly impeccable taste. You can listen to the playlist on Tidal below.

Babyface Ray Drops 'FACE' Deluxe Album | The Source

Babyface Ray may have a calm demeanor on the microphone, but he has no chill when making music. The Detroit rapper released his debut studio album FACE just four months ago. At midnight, Babyface Ray added eight extra tracks to his FACE album, bringing the total to 28.

Babyface Ray, who heavily contributed to the Midwest music wave, served as a poster boy when making motivational music. He uses his music to inspire listeners to seek financial freedom.

Since entering the rap game, he has held a significant presence, and he feels the momentum he’s gained will roll over in the summer. Ray took it to Twitter to express his confidence in his FACE deluxe album.

On the deluxe album, fans can hear Lil Yachty, Dj Esco, “Congratulations,” and more. Check out the FACE deluxe album below.

Babyface Ray Is All About Loyalty In His Laid-Back Video For ‘Family Over Money’

Among all of the hip-hop releases that were shared in 2022 so far, Babyface Ray’s Face is certainly at the top of the list. The Detroit native released his debut album at the top of the year and it was filled with memorable moments like “6 Mile Show” with Icewear Vezzo, “My Thoughts 3/Pop’s Prayer,” and “Dancing With The Devil” alongside Pusha T and Landstrip Chip. Nearly three months after that project arrived, Babyface Ray is already back in action with a deluxe reissue for his impressive debut.

With the re-release of Face, Babyface Ray supplies eight additional songs to the album including “Family Over Money” which he dropped with a music video. In it, Babyface Ray enjoys a serene view from a luxury house while laying off raps focused on loyalty. The visual also displays clips of him performing on stage and recording in his in-home studio.

The deluxe release of Face adds features from Veeze, Baroline, Lucki, DJ Esco, and Lil Yachty to the project that was already highlighted by appearances from G Herbo, 42 Dugg, Wiz Khalifa, and others.

You can press play on the video for “Family Over Money” above.

Face (Deluxe) is out now via Wavy Gang/Empire. You can stream it here.
