St. Louis CITY SC and Rapper Smino Launch ‘Homegrown’ Music Collaboration

St. Louis CITY SC and Rapper Smino Launch 'Homegrown' Music Collaboration

St. Louis CITY SC, and native rapper Smino are teaming up for an exciting new music initiative called Homegrown. This partnership aims to elevate five emerging St. Louis musicians throughout 2024 with exclusive support, including access to Smino, performance opportunities, and artist profiles. The initiative will begin with a unique Friday night showcase at St. Louis’ premier music festival, Music at the Intersection.

“St. Louis’ distinct energy is led by the creators, thinkers, builders and doers who are propelling our CITY forward,” said St. Louis CITY SC’s Chief Brand Architect Lee Broughton. “Smino is a direct reflection of this spirit, and it is an honor to team up with him on Homegrown to bring more awareness to the massive amounts of talent we have here in St. Louis and amplify these local musicians as they continue to grow their crafts and make waves in our community and beyond.”

As part of Homegrown, the selected artists will participate in discovery sessions with Smino to receive valuable insights on building their careers. They will also perform at 2024 CITY Block Party events alongside a headliner at the Music at the Intersection festival kickoff. The Homegrown artists, Handpicked by Smino, span various musical genres, including Brock Seals, Hazmat, Lani Rose, Matt Jordan, and Tonina.

“These artists are super talented and represent the many sounds of St. Louis. All bring the good energy and vibes,” said Smino. “Music is my life, and it is important to me to support my krib, give back and inspire. Working with CITY is really special, and we will give these artists a new platform as they rise up in the music world.”

“CITY SC is a celebration of St. Louis, showcasing all of the remarkable attributes of our region like our people, our food, our art and our music,” said Matt Sebek, St. Louis CITY SC’s Chief Experience Officer. “With the help of Smino, this year we are raising the bar in our support of local artists and are pledging to continue to be unapologetically St. Louis.”

Smino’s commitment to St. Louis mirrors CITY SC’s dedication to the community. This collaboration follows Smino’s annual “Kribmas” benefit show, demonstrating his ongoing efforts to support the city. Smino recently headlined the free CITY Block Party on the club’s MLS home opening day, further highlighting the strong partnership between music and sports in St. Louis.

Metro Boomin Gets Key To The City Of St. Louis

In the past few months, there have been some major artists in rap and R&B to receive recognition from their hometowns. Gucci Mane got his own day declared after him in Fulton Country that coincided with the release of his new album. Around the same time, Usher also got his own day named after him in Las Vegas while also receiving the key to the city. He’s going to make a pretty major splash in Vegas in just a few months when he headlines the Super Bowl halftime show at the city’s brand-new stadium.

Now Metro Boomin has become the most recent artist to receive a similar honor. According to TMZ, he was given the key to his hometown of St. Louis earlier this week. He was on stage with his four siblings and St. Louis mayor Tishaura O. Jones earlier this week when he was presented with the key. Metro took the opportunity to tribute his late mother as a major part of the reason for the recognition was his long-running “Single Moms Are The Real Superheroes” campaign. December 14th is now officially known as Metro Boomin day in St Louis. Check out some photos from the event below.

Metro Boomin Day

Earlier this month, Metro Boomin shared his artist wrapped from Spotify and he had some extremely impressive numbers. His late 2022 album Heroes & Villains was among the most-streamed rap albums of 2023. But it was far from the only project he was involved in. He also released a feature-packed soundtrack for the animated superhero film Spiderman: Across The Spiderverse. Both projects resulted in major hits with high-profile collaborations.

Metro Boomin has also been teasing his next big release for much of the year. He’s repeatedly tweeted updates about a potential collab with Future. He’s described it as the “ultimate album” and tweeted about taking the album cover photo months ago. However, substantial updates on the project have slowed down in the past few months. What do you think of Metro Boomin being honored with his own day and the key to the city of St. Louis? Let us know in the comment section below.

Chingy Joins Sexyy Red Onstage: Watch

Sexyy Red invited a very special guest to join her onstage at one of her recent hometown shows. She brought out none other than Chingy, who performed his Jackpot hit “Right Thurr,” much to fans’ excitement. The “Pound Town” performer took the opportunity to show off some of her dance moves as the crowd cheered them on. The St. Louis native had her baby bump on full display as he serenaded her with the early-2000s staple.

Chingy wasn’t the only special guest to join Sexyy at her hometown show, however. She also invited DaBaby onstage for a performance of “Shake Sumn REMIX.” Clearly, Sexyy Red wanted to go all out for her fellow Missourians, and it’s safe to say that they weren’t disappointed. While she only continues to gain attention for her unique sound and high-profile collabs, Sexyy Red has garnered quite a few haters on the way to the top.

Sexyy Red & Chingy

While most find her carefree lyrics to be refreshing, they’re a bit too explicit for some. Some of Sexyy’s peers have been pretty vocal about their distaste for her music, most recently, Khia. The “My Neck, My Back” performer responded to some fans comparing her to the “SkeeYee” rapper, making it extremely clear that she feels as though they’re nothing alike. She appeared to throw a few jabs at the 26-year-old in the process, prompting a response.

When Sexyy Red wrote her off as a “hater,” however, it only sparked an even more heated response from Khia. “Your a** is being charged with not being ashamed of your God d**n self. Doing h*e s**t then being mad about it. Being a deadbeat mama, a deadbeat daddy, a deadbeat daughter, and a deadbeat Young Thug lookalike,” she said in a clip. Regardless, it looks like Sexyy Red continues to live her best life, with the countless fans she does have. What do you think of Chingy joining Sexyy Red onstage? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Sexyy Red Joins SZA In St. Louis For Hometown Show

SZA is on her second run of the incredibly successful SOS tour, which recently touched down in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday (October 11). Moreover, she’s been having a fantastic time, so much so that she hinted at her Brooklyn show that she might do a mini-tour for SOS‘ deluxe, Lana. However, the TDE singer wanted to give her hometown fans a special surprise, too, and who better to tap for it than another native of the city? Furthermore, none other than Sexyy Red joined her onstage to perform their joint appearance on Drake’s new album For All The Dogs, “Rich Baby Daddy.” By throwing it back, screaming the lyrics alongside the crowd, and just giving off some fun-loving energy, we’re sure plenty of St. Louis fans felt pretty fulfilled.

Of course, their styles are very different, but that’s not as important of a factor when you’re witnessing a live performance. After all, it seemed like SZA was just as excited as Sexyy Red- if not more- as they sang the infectious “hands on your knees” chorus. If nothing else, it was great to see them enjoy the show and tap into their fanbases, artistic directions, and energies. All we can hope for is that this isn’t their last collab, whether onstage or on wax.

Sexyy Red Pops Out At The St. Louis SOS Show

Thanks for holding me down and killing s**t all summer,” Drake wrote of Sexyy Red’s contributions to For All The Dogs. “You are the kindest most solid and I luhhhh you.” “Thank u Drake for supporting me all year and letting me b apart of your amazing album,” the “SkeeYee” MC had previously expressed to the Toronto titan. It’s been a wild rise for her this year, and with about three months to close it out, who knows what she could do next?

Meanwhile, the “Gone Girl” superstar is still riding high off of the success of SOS while giving us more stellar material. There’s a lot to celebrate when it comes to these two artists, and it seems like they’re poised to keep that energy up into 2024. Let’s see what they cook up! 607 Unc Sacrificed Son To Escape The Illuminati, The St. Louis Rapper Claims

Illuminati conspiracies are quite common among artists and fans alike, whether we’re talking about superstars or relative unknowns. Moreover, today’s case involves a prominent rapper in his city’s local scene: 607 Unc. The St. Louis, Missouri MC recently sat down for an interview with Off The Porch on Tuesday (September 19) and went through plenty of odd claims. For example, he said that he wrote Nelly’s smash 2000 hit “Country Grammar,” the timeline of which is questionable to say the least. However, his most bombastic statement was that he is the first person to escape the Illuminati.

“I’m the first person to leave,” 607 Unc remarked. “I made the ultimate sacrifice and I got out the Illuminati. I’m the first person that can speak about it. Yeah, I sacrificed my son.” With a stack of cash in his hand, the spitter said that he was “deada** serious” and described himself as “half Illuminati and half street.” Of course, it’s difficult to tell whether this is a joke, a clout chase, a confession, a fantasy, or something in between. Either way, it’s certainly one way to put yourself out there as an artist.

607 Unc’s Bizarre Interview

What might be the funniest part of this whole thing is that 607 Unc ditched the interview just minutes after his claims. Maybe he’s afraid that the secret society will be quick to silence him for his confessions. However, other artists simply embrace the conspiracy theories formed around their Illuminati involvement, like Doja Cat. For her new Scarlet merch, various of her designs referenced her alleged ties and other controversies that she got into with her fans. If you can’t beat them, join them, as they say, or at least make some money off of the memes.

Meanwhile, it feels like there’s been an uptick in people making these connections, as well as demonic ones, when it comes to artists. Maybe people are just looking for something vague to handle intense celebrity visibility. On the other hand, maybe famous people have gotten to the point where they really do feel like a new world order. Regardless, keep checking in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on 607 Unc… and the Illuminati, we suppose.

2023’s ‘Music at the Intersection’: A Hip-Hop Time Capsule Unearthed

DJ GrandMaster Flash

St. Louis Culture: Where Graffiti Meets Groove, Breakdancing Blends with Jazz, and Deejaying Dances with Humanity

In a resounding celebration of music’s timeless power, the vibrant city of St. Louis recently served as the epicenter of musical ecstasy during the 2023 edition of Music at the Intersection. Nestled in the heart of the Grand Center Arts District, this annual extravaganza unfolded over two days, welcoming music enthusiasts from every corner of the globe for an experience that defied boundaries and blurred the lines between genres, generations, and musical eras.

The festival’s headline act, none other than the legendary Grandmaster Flash, took to the stage, reaffirming his rightful status as the “Founding Father.” An icon of hip-hop whose influence has rippled across generations, Flash ignited the crowd with his timeless beats, a testament to the enduring impact of his artistry. His performance set the stage for an event that would pay homage to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, reminding us of the genre’s profound legacy.

Music at the Intersection is renowned for its diverse lineup, and 2023 was no exception. The festival’s stages bore witness to a fusion of iconic figures such as Angela Winbush, Arrested Development, Cameo, Herbie Hancock, and Taj Mahal, seamlessly blending with the rising stars of today, including Masego, Phony PPL, Ravyn Lenae, Smino, and Thundercat. It was a harmonious collision of hip-hop’s storied history and promising future, where musical worlds converged.

Injecting a hearty dose of funk and groove into the mix, the collective genius of Snarky Puppy and the irresistible vibes of The Suffers and Tank and the Bangas had the audience grooving well into the night. These performances transcended genres, underscoring the festival’s commitment to showcasing music’s kaleidoscopic facets.

St. Louis jazz legends Denise Thimes and the Kendrick Smith Quartet delivered awe-inspiring performances, invoking the city’s rich musical heritage. Their presence was a living testament to the festival’s mission of celebrating St. Louis’ indelible mark on the American songbook.

Trumpeter Keyon Harrold brought his unmistakable “no place like home” energy to St. Louis, joining a roster of music heavyweights at Music At The Intersection. Backed by the incredible Shedrick Mitchell on keys, the dynamic Pharoahe Monch & Stout setting the stage ablaze, and the masterful Charles Haynes on drums, Harrold’s performance was a living testament to the unifying power of music across genres. His words resonated deeply: “It’s the 50th year of hip-hop, and I am bringing Pharoahe Monch with me – who is a legend. I am bringing Stout with me. We are going to merge the worlds – hip-hop meets jazz.”

Beyond the infectious beats and irresistible rhythms, Music at the Intersection was a testament to St. Louis’ profound impact on the music world. The festival transcended boundaries, spanning blues, jazz, soul, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll, and hip-hop. It was a vibrant celebration of St. Louis’ musical, cultural, and artistic legacy.

A historic moment was etched into hip-hop’s annals as radio personality Edie Bee Anderson was honored with a Legends Award. Anderson, a trailblazer who introduced hip-hop to St. Louis airwaves by spinning “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugar Hill Gang in 1979, rightfully received the recognition she deserved. Her pioneering spirit ignited a movement that has molded the city’s music culture.

Chris Hansen, the visionary executive director of Kranzberg Arts Foundation and chief producer of Music at the Intersection, beautifully encapsulated the festival’s essence: “St. Louis artists have birthed and stewarded these great genres, and now, the rest of the world gets to enjoy playing and listening to the music that we’ve been so instrumental in breaking.” The event undoubtedly realized its vision of uniting music lovers from around the globe.

Music at the Intersection 2023 was more than a festival; it was a musical odyssey through time and genres, a celebration of St. Louis’ enduring influence on music, and a testament to the unifying power of the art form. As the festival concluded, it left an indelible mark on the hearts and souls of all who attended, serving as a poignant reminder that music, in all its glory, truly knows no boundaries.

Jayson Tatum And Sexyy Red Link Up In Meeting Of St. Louis Icons

Jayson Tatum and Sexyy Red are St. Louis icons for very different reasons. Tatum is one of the best young players in the NBA right now. After a standout career at Chaminade High School, Tatum took his talent to the NCAA blue blood of Duke. However, the Blue Devils flopped in Tatum’s one-and-done year. Despite winning the ACC Tournament, the #2 seed Blue Devils lost in the Second Round of March Madness. Despite this, Tatum went third overall in the 2017 draft and has helped bring the Celtics back to the top of the Eastern Conference.

Meanwhile, Sexyy Red has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the music industry. Songs like “Pound Town” and “SkeeYee” have made her a rising star who is poised to take the scene by storm. Her redefining of things such raunch aesthetics and her unapologetically sexual nature give her both infamy and uniqueness in an industry that can be described as a little oversaturated at the moment. However, also hailing from St. Louis, she appears to have recently linked up Tatum to show that St. Louis strong.

Red posted an image of her hanging with Tatum on her Instagram, adding the caption “St. Louis sht man” along with a blood drop emoji. Tatum appears dressed very casually in jeans and a Kobe-Jordan shirt. Meanwhile, Red has donned a blonde wig and is wearing a revealing purple outfit. Something is written across the ass of her shorts. However, only the word “Daddy” is clearly visible in the picture.

The internet had a lot of fun with the image, especially in roasting Tatum’s somewhat awkward stance. “Tatum scared to grab them cheeks 😂,” one person noted. “That boy fist sweating😭 Didn’t even open his hand up. Everyone looks like a fan next to you😂,” added another. Meanwhile, other commenters referenced Red’s alleged relationship with Drake. “Not sure DRAKE will be happy with u taking pic with that dwag,” warned one individual.
