Fly Anakin Drops New Album “Skinemaxxx (Side A)”

Fly Anakin has dropped his latest full-length effort, Skinemaxxx (Side A). The release comes a little over two months after he released the old-school lead single, “Blicky Bop.” The single release was accompanied by a trippy music video. In the video, Anakin raps on a 60s-inspired set with insane editing that makes the entire video look like a shroom trip. The rapper teased the album when he dropped the single. Now that it’s here, it certainly doesn’t disappoint.

The entire album is produced by Foisey, and features dreamy production reminiscent of the golden era of hip-hop. Jazzy basslines, brass, and keyboards all shine through in the instrumentals. Anakin flows effortlessly over the beats, with a flow that’s both aggressive and somehow calming. Skinemaxxx (Side A) is an exciting new album from one of the best rappers in the underground.

Anakin Carves Out His Own Niche

There are several standouts on the album, but the entire thing really deserves a listen. It showcases Anakin at his absolute best, and it’s the kind of album that makes you excited about underground rap again. He really feels like he’s in a class of his own, with a tone and flow that doesn’t really sound like anyone else out right now. He mixes the old school with the new school to create a truly unique experience.

One of the most memorable tracks from the album is Suppression. A flurry of jazzy drums, saxophones, and keyboards lay the scene. In the song, Anakin speaks about not being able to express himself and his mother’s struggle with drugs. “Told me I was way too loud / I start suppressing shit,” he raps on the song’s refrain, “Mama chose the rock over power / we got a deficit.” Have you checked out Anakin’s new album? Fly Anakin Drops A New ‘Skinemaxxx’ Single Called ‘Outsidigan’s Anthem’

Last year, Fly Anakin unveiled his highly anticipated debut album Frank, which featured guests like Henny L.O., Pink Siifu, Billz Egypt, Nickelus F, and more. The Richmond, Virginia-based performer recently announced Skinemaxxx, a pair of EPs produced by Foisey, with Side A arriving soon.

The rapper is back today with the new single “Outsidigan’s Anthem.” The track is what Anakin describes as “a theme song for outsidigans. The ones that are outside even when they wanna go home. The streets need us. Free Max B.”

In our 2017 interview with Anakin, whose real name is Frank, he talked about his role in the rap collective Mutant Academy.

“In my mind, every member got superpowers, but we’re human and we ain’t sh*t, so we stuck on Earth entertaining ya’ll,” he explained. “Mutant Academy started out as a duo between Henny L.O. and myself in 2011. He came to me with the name, I designed the logo. 2015, we decided to expand and brought along some talented people we met along the journey. The current roster is Fly Anakin, Henny L.O., Koncept Jack$on, and Big Kahuna OG in the rap department. Producers- Foisey, Unlucky Bastards, Sycho Sid, Ewonee, Graymatter, BSTFRND and new member we haven’t announced yet.”

Fly Anakin Shines On New Single, “Blicky Bop”

Fly Anakin continues to be one of underground hip-hop’s greatest talents. Just a couple weeks into 2023, it appears as though he’s keeping his foot on the gas.

Fresh off his successful year in 2022, the Virginia native is evidently looking to keep his momentum going into the new year. Earlier this week, Anakin dropped off his newest single, “Blicky Bop.”

It serves as the first single for the “No Dough” rapper’s forthcoming album, Skinemaxxx (Side A). The project will be produced entirely by fellow Mutant Academy artist, Foisey. It’s set to arrive later this year, on April 5.

On “Blicky Bop,” Anakin shows off his knack for witty rhymes and his singular vocabulary that make him such a unique emcee.

“Too bad I won’t be there for your ass, you made me mad today / N*ggas I ain’t seen in years, don’t trust you dawg, I’m sad to say / Told them hoes, ‘Don’t call my phone, don’t care if it’s my birthday’ / Richard Pryor want enough, I gave you more of that free bass,” he raps in the first verse.

Additionally, an accompanying music videos comes along with the new track. The trippy visuals help contribute to the song’s vibe, as Anakin’s hurried flow effectively compliments the spacey production.

The 28-year-old’s latest offering is his official debut album from last year, the stellar Frank. Featuring some frequent collaborators like Pink Siifu, Nickelus F and Big Kahuna Og, the 17-track project finds Anakin further showcasing his storytellinh abilities and unique flows. Furthermore, the production and some of his vocal deliveries draw from classic R&B and Soul music.

Bbymutha Shares Her New, Fly Anakin-Produced EP ‘Muthalefic3nt’

Bbymutha has not been hard to find. In 2020 alone she dropped the albums Muthaleficent and Muthaland, followed by The Bastard Tapes, Vol. 3 in 2021 and Cherrytape earlier this year. After sharing “Yaya” back in June of this year, the Chattanooga lyricist is back with another EP, Muthalefic3nt. This is special not only for the frequency at which she has released but also because the project is fully produced by Fly Anakin.

Bbymutha uses this almost featureless endeavor (Anakin spits on track two, “Blink!”) to expose more about herself and doesn’t hide the fact it isn’t pretty. The project is centered around darker, grimier sounds and subjects that may not be easily digestible for all. However, in true, enigmatic Bbymutha fashion, she puts a 32-year-old spin on “Ring Around The Rosie,” rhyming it with “Cocaine for my nosey” on “Blkdeath:(.”

Bbymutha displays his lyrical and melodic flexibility over the EP’s seven tracks, putting a major stamp on a strong last few years for the rapper. Though there is no news about a forthcoming album, it surely would not come as a shock if she released one before 2022 comes to a close.

Bbymutha’s Muthaleficent is out now via Lion Babe. Listen to it here.
