Nicki Minaj Says Lil Kim Deserves Recognition For Her Influence, Despite Their Past Friction

Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj sat down for a nearly two-hour-long interview with Joe Budden on Instagram Live. During the interview, she talked about her fourth album, Queen, which she admitted wasn’t “presented correctly,” a label and management company she’s working on founding, and her overall influence on hip-hop.

When Minaj first stepped onto the scene, she donned a pink wig, which made up her signature look, and is now part of many female rappers’ repertoires.

“I would never see any female rapper wearing pink hair, pink hair became a part of that starter kit,” Minaj said in the interview. “Every female rapper will put on a pink wig at some point.”

Still, despite the influence of Minaj’s aesthetic, the “Do We Have A Problem?” rapper admitted she’s frustrated at the fact that she’s never been on the cover of Vogue. She also noted that the influence of white artists is regarded differently than that of Black artists.

“When Billie Eilish comes out and sets a trend with her green hair, she’s immediately put on American Vogue,” Minaj said, before later recalling pleasant encounters with Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Minaj later said, “The same way I feel like I should have been on the cover of American Vogue, so should have Lil Kim, if we being all the way a thousand.” She continued, saying, “When myself or Lil Kim goes on the internet, every day we see our influence. I’m not gonna say it’s about me only and not give that woman her just due about what she did.”

Early Minaj songs, including “Roman’s Revenge” and “Stupid Hoe” are thought to be about Kim. While Minaj has never confirmed the subject of these songs, Kim has slammed Minaj several times, including in a Hot 97 interview with Ebro and Peter Rosenberg, where she called Minaj “a snake,” but said she’d be willing to collaborate with her.

Cardi B Calls Lil Kim A ‘Real F*cking Legend’ And Defends Her Amid Cyber Bullying

There’s a certain tendency online for hateful commentators to bash on the elders in the music world, and it’s something that’s always irked Cardi B. As a female rapper herself, Cardi has faced the kind of constant criticism and endless nitpicking that many other celebrities have endured, but there’s one person she will always defend from it — and that’s Lil Kim. When “WAP” came out and Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion were relentlessly attacked, Cardi admitted it shocked her because she grew up on raunchy rap like the music Kim used to make, and Kim has noted in the past that she’d love to remake “Ladies Night” with Cardi involved.

And the mutual respect between the two is probably why Cardi took it upon herself to defend Lil Kim from the latest round of cyber bullying that Kim is facing. In a series of tweets last night, Cardi let her fans know that she thinks the constant abuse Kim faces as a “real f*cking legend” is heartbreaking.

When commenters brought up Cardi collaborating with Kim — as if that would somehow stop the other internet bullying — and Cardi assured everyone that when the time is right, her collaboration with Kim will come.

So there you have it Kim — Cardi’s always got your back.

Lil Kim Thinks 50 Cent Is ‘Getting Creepy’ After He Compares Her To The ‘Leprechaun’ Movies

Lil Kim is just about fed up with her “Magic Stick” collaborator 50 Cent after his latest post, calling his trolling antics corny and opining that the Queens rapper is “obsessed” with her. 50, who seems to spend almost as much time trolling on Instagram as he does producing his many, many shows on Starz (which include the latest iteration of Power and BMF) posted a side-by-side comparison of a photo of Lil Kim performing at a show and the titular villain from the Leprechaun horror movies.

“I’m sorry i know it’s early but i don’t know why sh*t like this is funny to me,” he captioned the photo. However, when Kim saw it, she was less than amused. “Ur so obsessed wit me this is getting creepy,” she commented. “This one ain’t it bro. Not funny at all. I was hoping to laugh wit u but cornyyyyy. Boooo!!! U falling off. Im too bad and too fly in this video. U reachin now but we all know whyyyy.” For those who don’t know, Kim previously joked that 50 was “in his feels” over being turned down for a dinner date after he compared her BET Awards look to an owl.

In that instance, Kim herself reposted the side-by-side, teasing 50 and promoting her upcoming memoir (a very 50 Cent-esque move, to be honest). This time, though, there was no image to repost after the initial clap back. 50 deleted his post… but not before The Shade Room got ahold of it. You can see both posts above.
