Rod Wave Doubled GloRilla’s First Week Sales After Release Date Feud

Rod Wave and GloRilla are both rappers, but the similarities mostly end there. The former makes more R&B-influenced music with an emotional edge. The latter makes trap anthems with a Southern flavor. It didn’t look as though one was going to cut into the other’s first week sales, but the numbers are out, and Rod Wave proved to be the victor. He not only outsold GloRilla with his album Last Lap, but he lapped the St. Louis rapper by selling more than double what she pulled in during the same time period.

DJ Akademiks confirmed the numbers on October 15. He announced that Rod Wave managed to sell 130K units first week. GloRilla, meanwhile, was only able to sell 60K first week. This is tied for the second most units sold by Wave during the first week. His 2021 album, SoulFly, pulled an impressive 130K, while his 2023 album, Nostalgia, remains his best-performer with 137K units sold. GloRilla, meanwhile, doesn’t have the discography to be able to compare to previous releases. Glorious is her debut, and her previous EP, Anyways, Life’s Great, sold 28K in its first week.

GloRilla Criticized Rod Wave For Dropping The Same Day

The numbers are especially intriguing given that GloRilla sparked a feud with Rod Wave in the weeks leading up to their mutual releases. Wave changed his release date to be the same as GloRilla, and the latter voiced her frustration with the decision on Twitter. “Why df would you drop on my day,” she wrote. “I’m finna tweak out.” Rod Wave responded to GloRilla, and confirmed that he wouldn’t be changing his date to accommodate her. “La twin drop same night,” he wrote.

GloRilla has had a lot to say about the album sales about some of her rivals. JT of City Girls previously called out GloRilla for having a “man’s voice,” and then sold 27K units of her mixtape City Cinderella in July. The latter was tickled by the paltry number, and seemingly took to Twitter to celebrate JT’s weak numbers. “No competition,” she wrote. “Dese b*tches stale ho.” Unfortunately, for GloRilla, she didn’t fare much better when it came time to prove herself competitive.

Rod Wave Wants To Find Real Love On “25”

Rod Wave might have another number one album incoming with Last Lap. The St. Petersburg, Florida rapper and singer dropped of his sixth studio effort this past weekend after a tandem of singles and a tour announcement. The formula hasn’t really changed for the 26-year-old on this project, but it contains some real quality and some slight improvements on his method to some degree. Take for example “25,” which sees Rod Wave grapple with a relatable issue that a lot of people his age deal with today. If you are single in today’s current dating climate, you may be able to resonate with his message.

Wave deals with feelings of depressing solitude and crippling social anxiety. Those stem from how he’s tired of how this generation handles relationships. For those who are unaware, a lot of people in this age range tend to not treat them with as much care as they probably should. Social media is a major factor because it gives everyone the illusion that there could be something better out there. It seems that Rod is having those same problems, as he comes across as a hopeless romantic on “25.” He yearns for that true love given where he’s at in his life, and he also wonders to himself whether or not he’s ever going to find that. The relatability on this one makes it a standout, but it’s also his pained vocals and ear-grabbing melody that contribute to us revisiting this one more and more.

“25” – Rod Wave

Quotable Lyrics:

Twenty-two, many things to see and do
Twenty-three, lookin’ forward to twenty-four
Is it just me or it ain’t no love no more?
Twenty-five, what a time to be alive
Am I getting old? Why do I feel tired?
All the same old things, the same old games

Rod Wave Might Be On His “Last Lap” With This Latest Album

At this point, everyone knows the deal when it comes to what Rod Wave is going to do on an album. From the writing to the themes and the production, the St. Petersburg native has a creative process that he knows his fans will love, no matter how much time he takes in between LPs. In this case, it’s been just over a year since Nostalgia was the hot new thing on the block. With Rod Wave now dropping Last Lap this Friday, the singer and rapper has now dropped a project ever year since 2017.

This sixth studio album boasts 23 tracks and includes features from Lil Baby, Rylo Rodriguez, and Lil Yachty. The tracklist is led by “Passport Junkie” and “Fall Fast in Love,” both of which were released in September. Last Lap sees Rod Wave features your typical painful love songs as well as songs about his mental health. In addition to that, there are some cuts about losing family and friends, whether that to be prison bars or simply passing away. The title track, for instance, is a dedication to his late uncle and manager Uncle Dee, who lost his life this past summer (via Hypebeast). At points, Rod does come across as unsure about his own life and how all of these tragedies happening around him will affect him in the long term.

Rod Wave Claims That Drake “Loves The Game” And Will Never Retire

Drake’s legacy has been a major talking point in 2024. He lost the rap battle against Kendrick Lamar, and has struggled to drop hits with the same frequency that he has for the last 15 years. Some people feel he should hang it up. Rod Wave is here to assure OVO fans that Drake isn’t going anywhere. The rapper had a lengthy conversation about the 6 God ahead of the release of his new album. He shed light on the Drake song that he almost featured on, but most notably, he set the record straight as to whether Drizzy will ever retire.

The answer is no. Rod Wave made it abundantly clear that Drake lives to make music, and has no plans to step back from the limelight. The rapper even likened the 6 God to former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. “He just love doing this sh*t,” Wave asserted. “He love the game. Like Brady… He at home like ‘what the f*ck I’m finna do without this sh*t.’” Drake has talked about retirement in the past, like any big rapper has. He announced his plan to retire at age 35 on the 2016 song “Weston Road Flows.” That did not take. He talked about it again during a 2023 appearance on Lil Yachty’s A Moody Conversation.

Rod Wave Considers Himself A ‘Die Hard’ Drake Fan

Drake wants a graceful exit. “I guess that’s the one thing that I want for myself really badly,” he told Lil Boat. “I’m not ready now, but to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely, like, interesting and hopefully cherished by people.” Since then, though, the rapper has proven Rod Wave correct. He has dropped tons of music, and teased collab albums with the likes of PARTYNEXTDOOR and Conductor Williams. The most interesting aspect of the Drake and Wave dynamic, though, is that they’ve yet to officially work together.

Rod Wave was supposed to appear on the 2021 song “Lemon Pepper Freestyle.” Drake asked him to put a verse down, but the artist admitted that he got cold feet and was intimidated. “I’m a diehard Drake fan, I just got cold feet,” he explained. Drake was rumored to feature on Rod Wave’s new album, but the song he laid down a feature has since been altered. The album version will not include the 6 God.

Lil Durk Reveals Mind-Boggling Feature List For “Love Songs 4 The Streets 3”

Lil Durk continues to prove himself to be one of the most in-demand rappers in the world. He’s dropped hit singles, won Grammy Awards, and now he’s prepping for the release of his new album, Love Songs 4 the Streets 3. Durk has not only released the tracklist for the album, but the list of features as well. And we’ll be honest with you. The rapper might have the most eclectic and star-studded list of collabs of any rapper in 2024. Truly, Love Songs 4 the Streets 3 is going to be an incredible snapshot of this year in pop culture.

Let’s start with the most surprising features. Lil Durk has always linked up with other notable rappers. But nobody could have predicted that he would land a Sabrina Carpenter feature. Carpenter has been one of the breakout stars of 2024, if not the breakout star. It’ll be fascinating to hear how they sound together. The other names that are surprising to see on Lil Durk’s tracklist aren’t even rappers! iShowSpeed and Kai Cenat are two of the biggest streamers in the world. Yet, they will appear on the song “War Scars” together. We really have no clue what to expect there.

Lil Durk Seemingly Cut His Drake Collaboration

Where do you go after pop stars and streamers? Country, of course. Lil Durk is going to drip into another genre bag thanks to his Morgan Wallen collab “Come Home.” Rod Wave is also featured on what’s bound to be one of the biggest stylistic switch-ups of Durk’s entire career. Lil Baby and Future are slated to be on the songs “Sing this Song” and “Anti Hero,” respectively. Though their inclusion makes way more sense given the style Durk usually works in. The biggest question, though, revolves around the 6 God. Drake was supposed to be on the song “Discontinuing Wockhardt,” but it looks like he was cut from the album version. Since the other features are listed, it’s safe to assume Drake isn’t merely being hidden for dramatic effect.

Love Songs 4 the Streets 3 tracklist:

  1. Turn Up a Notch
  2. Timeless Love (featuring Sabrina Carpenter)
  3. Went Hollywood for a Year
  4. Truly Blessed
  5. War Scars (featuring iShowSpeed & Kai Cenat)
  6. Lose Control
  7. Come Home (featuring Rod Wave & Morgan Wallen)
  8. Anti Hero (featuring Future)
  9. Discontinuing Wockhardt
  10. That’s My Dawg
  11. Old Days
  12. Sing This Song (featuring Lil Baby)

Rod Wave Delivers New Single “Fall Fast In Love” Ahead Of Sixth Album

Florida artist Rod Wave is no stranger to a bad relationship. Much of his music deals with heartbreak, to the point where fans on social media joke about if he’s ever been happy before. The 25-year-old crooner/rapper found his lane early in his career, and has yet to find a reason to deviate off course much. That is the case on “Fall Fast In Love,” his latest offering. The track is the latest single ahead of his forthcoming album, Last Lap, which arrives on October 11.

The track finds Rod Wave lamenting over a failed relationship. He also talks about his shortcomings as a potential partner, namely the fact that he grows attached too quickly. He’s searching for approval from the girl he’s singing about, but she’s hesitant to reciprocate those feelings. Of course, fans may know that Rod Wave’s own personal life has been tumultuous when it comes to relationships. Earlier this year, he had to combat cheating allegations made by his ex-girlfriend. Life seems to imitate Rod’s art more often than not, and it has produced very successful results. According to a recent Instagram post, he is the only rapper to have an album go platinum in five consecutive years. His style has also led to a collaboration with Drake, which he teased earlier in September and is now set for an October release. The two of them will surely be singing about their difficult love lives. Stream the latest solo track from Rod Wave below.

Rod Wave – “Fall Fast In Love”

Quotable Lyrics:

Damn, I hate relationships, why we goin’ tit for tat?
Everytime them n****s sent some shots, you know we sent it back
Everytime them n****s spinned on us, you know we spinned it back
‘Til we started spinnin’ first, then we started spendin’ worse
And I don’t want no messy s**t, don’t even wanna get into that
I sent you a letter, babygirl, could you send it back?
Yeah, she had my heart for a lil’ minute but she won’t give it back

Rod Wave Releases Ballad “Lonely” Ahead Of New Unnamed Project

Rod Wave has built quite the committed fan base since he made landfall toward the end of the 2010 decade. With an instantly recognizable take on the R&B genre, the Floridian singer and balladeer was able to rise quite quickly. 2023 was a pretty good year for the veteran, as he put out his fifth studio album, Nostalgia. It featured a healthy number of popular songs, including “Turks & Caicos”, featuring 21 Savage, “Great Gatsby”, Boyz Don’t Cry”, and “Fight The Feeling”. The project also did well numbers wise, selling 137,000 copies in its first week, which helped it stay at number one on the Billboard Hot 200 two weeks straight. Now, Rod Wave is gearing up for another potential hit record, dropping its second single “Lonely”.

Fans we treated to a 2024 version of “Numb”, as the original landed on Rod’s 2018 tape, Hunger Games 3. Despite sharing the same title, the sound of each one is starkly different. On “Lonely”, Rod is delivering his signature melodies and twinkly production, as he passionately sings about a girl he wants to save from toxic men. The YouTube-exclusive single is already seeing tremendous praise from fans, as it is currently number 13 on Trending for music. You can tell that Rod is dealing with more pain and strong feelings on this track and it seems the album will feature more examples just like “Lonely”. “This f***ing project hurt so bad, but [I’m going to give] it to y’all”, he said on Instagram according to HipHopNMore. There is no clear release date for the album yet, but best believe that fans are readier than ever for it.
