Vory’s Alleged Reference Track For Drake’s “Mob Ties” Leaks Online

Drake’s had a controversial history with reference tracks. The 2015 reference track for “10 Bands” was what sparked the rumor that the rapper used ghostwriters, and he has struggled to live them down ever since. Kendrick Lamar mentioned ghostwriters during his recent battle with Drake, and every couple of months, it seems as though another reference track for a Drake song makes its way online. The latest is “Mob Ties,” which was a single on his 2018 double album, Scorpion.

“Mob Ties” has multiple credited songwriters. Drake is one of them, then Allen Ritter and Boi-1da, both of whom produce the song. The Firm and the Trackmasters are also credited, which makes sense given that “Mob Ties” samples the 1996 Nas single “Affirmative Action.” Vory is the only one songwriter who isn’t part of OVO or the artists who made “Affirmative Action.” His involvement in “Mob Ties” was never made clear, but if the leaked reference is to be believed, Vory wrote the bulk of the song. The version he did has a very similar structure, and only a few differences in terms of lyrics.

Vory Was A Credited Writer On Drake’s 2018 Single

To be clear, this is not a ghostwriting situation. Vory is credited on the final version of “Mob Ties,” just like he is on Bryson Tiller’s 2015 single “Don’t.” Vory also pops up all over Kanye West’s 2021 album Donda. The artist is a frequent behind-the-scenes presence for some of the biggest names in rap. The notion of him penning a song for Drizzy is, consequently, not a surprise.

Vory’s involvement with “Mob Ties” has been debated in the past. DJ Akademiks claimed Vory didn’t have any involvement with the song during a Twitch stream, only to look it up and realize he was wrong. “[Vory] is credited,” he asserted. “But he ain’t write nothing.” This reference track upends DJ Akademiks’ theory outright. That being said, Vory has not yet verified that the reference is real.

A reference track for Drake’s 2023 song “Calling for You” was leaked online, only for the artist credited on the reference track, Cash Cobain, to refute it. The rapper/producer hopped on Instagram to post an image of Allen Iverson. In other words, the reference was as fake as Iverson’s famous fake pass move. AI-generated content is making it harder than ever to determine what’s real. Ironic, given Drake’s own use of AI for his “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

DJ Akademiks Claims Fans Are Hate-Botting Drake’s New Songs

Drake has seen brighter days. The rapper’s popularity has taken a hit since he lost the Kendrick Lamar battle. The last diss that he issued towards Lamar, “The Heart Part 6,” wound up with more dislikes than likes on YouTube. The next single he appeared on, “U My Everything,” fell victim to the same ratio. Drake is losing fans by the day, it seems, but DJ Akademiks thinks there’s something fishy about the stats. The avid 6 God supporter claimed that there’s a concentrated effort to make the rapper’s “fall” seem more significant than it actually is.

DJ Akademiks rolled out his conspiracy theory on May 26. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to note the overwhelmingly harsh response to the aforementioned songs. He also included Drake’s second Lamar diss, “Family Matters,” in his statement. “Either n**gas hating on Drake or n**gas hate botting his latest releases,” Ak wrote. “His last 2 releases has more dislikes than likes on YouTube. The Heart Part 6 and his newest feature on Sexyy Redd song. And family matters has over 400k dislikes on YouTube. Very abnormal.”

Drake’s Last Three Songs Have Been Ratio’d

While it’s admittedly strange to see Drake songs consistently perform poorly, the rapper is dealing with public fallout that he’s never had to deal with before. Lamar turned his Drake disses into hits, with “Not Like Us” and “Euphoria” peaking at number one and three on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. Drake, meanwhile, struggled to crack the top ten with his disses. Drake’s music has also seen a downturn in streaming. His numbers were reportedly down 5% the week of May 3-6.

Drake’s feature on Sexxy Red’s “U My Everything” proves that he’s not been able to shake the Lamar battle. Instead of ignoring the battle, and his various targets outright, he decided to flip Metro Boomin’s “BBL Drizzy” beat and change the meaning of the title. It was a decent idea in theory, but enough time had passed to where fans felt as though it fell flat. “U My Everything” is suffering from post-Kendrick Lamar fallout, much in the same way that J. Cole’s verse is on the Cash Cobain single “Grippy.” Both rappers are struggling to get their footing back.

DJ Akademiks might be right in terms of there being too much Drake hate, but it’s also worth noting that dislikes and mockery come with the territory when you decide to go to battle. The 6 God will be fine, but it might take longer than he or Ak want it to.

Fans Theorize That Doja Cat Is Dissing Her Dad On Social Media

Doja Cat doesn’t care what people thinks. She’s become one of the most provocative pop stars of the 2020s, and a lot of her provocation is aimed at those close to her. Doja has criticized her fans for taking her music and artistry too seriously, and her latest Instagram post has those same fans theorizing that she’s turned her ire towards a member of her own family. The “Agora Hills” singer doesn’t mention anybody by name, but there are some clues as to who it could be.

Doja Cat posted two seemingly random photos of herself on May 26. The first was close up of her face with a shocked expression. The second, even more bizarrely, was of her backside with a robe covering it. It would have been tricky to make heads or tails of the post’s meaning, but the caption added a level of significance that caught fans off guard. “I’m gonna turn you into my next project and you’re gonna have to listen to it for the rest of your god forsaken life,” she wrote. No elaboration, or hashtags hinting at her target. The widely accepted theory is that Doja Cat was talking about her father, Dumisani Dlamini.

Doja Cat Criticized Her Father For Being A “Deadbeat”

Dlamini is an actor and dancer hailing from South Africa. He has praised Doja Cat’s success in various outlets, but the two have never actually met in person. Doja talked about the psychological impact this had on her as a child during a 2021 profile with Rolling Stone. “I felt confused, a little bit,” she recalled. “It’s a little strange to see everybody else with their dad, and you didn’t even really have one.” She has spoken highly of Dlamani’s skills as a performer, but made it clear that was not an influence on her own career.

The piece of evidence that the father theory is Doja Cat’s X bio. The singer recently changed her bio to specifically refer to Dlamini’s absence. “My dad’s a deadbeat but I did well,” it currently reads. Doja had more to say about Dlamini in an Instagram Story. On May 27, the singer spun a makeup tutorial into a scathing indictment of her father’s character. “Dad, let me know when/if you need me to re-up your makeup cabinet because you are a b*tch.” Seems like an open-and-shut case.

Billie Eilish EPs & Albums, Ranked

Billie Eilish has cemented herself in pop culture due to her immense talent and ability to connect with audiences through her music. She recently made it onto Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums, an amazing feat for such a young artist. Her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? ranked 30th on the list. Evidently, it’s no question that she is one of the biggest stars of the decade. The rest of her discography is also worth listening to though, so here are all Billie Eilish’s albums and EPs ranked.

5. Don’t Smile At Me

After releasing a few singles, including her initial claim to fame “Ocean Eyes,” Billie Eilish released her first EP in 2017. While Don’t Smile At Me was a great project, especially considering that Eilish was just 15 years old at the time, she has only gotten better in the years since then. Don’t Smile At Me included moody tracks like “idontwannabeyouanymore,” as well as more upbeat and experimental tracks like “my boy.” The EP’s balance of ballads and fast-paced songs set the groundwork for the rest of Billie Eilish and Finneas’s work together.

4. Hit Me Hard And Soft

Billie Eilish’s most recent release was shrouded in mystery, as she didn’t follow the typical release schedule before her albums drop. Upon this album’s release, fans were excited to hear some new sounds from Eilish. On Hit Me Hard and Soft, she explored topics of falling out of love, as well as falling in love with a woman for the first time. Songs like “Lunch” were immediately elevated to queer bop status. However, the frequent beat switches on songs in the album often toed the line between hit or miss.

3. Guitar Songs

Despite only consisting of two songs, Guitar Songs is some of Billie Eilish’s best work. “TV” touches on the very topical issue of the overturning of Roe V. Wade in the U.S. On the other hand, “The 30th” includes some of Eilish’s most heartbreaking lyrics to date. Her vocals are both soft and striking on both tracks and, as the EP title suggests, the production of the songs is minimal, letting their stories shine.

2. Happier Than Ever

On her sophomore album, Billie Eilish leaned away from the dark aesthetics of her debut, for a more mature and insightful project. Happier Than Ever tackled Eilish’s rise to fame at such a young age, as well as the scrutiny she faced from the media over her body, and her recent breakup at the time. In songs like “Your Power,” she deals with topics of sexuality and its abuse by people in power. Additionally, “My Future” and “Therefore I Am” show her growth and maturity as she gets older. The album’s title track is one of Billie Eilish’s most cathartic songs, as she disparages a deadbeat ex and celebrates her freedom.

1. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Billie Eilish’s debut remains the most beloved and most critically acclaimed of all her albums and EPs. The album was inspired by her experiences with nightmares and lucid dreams and explored themes of mental health, addiction, and teen angst. Notably, tracks like “Bad Guy” and “When The Party’s Over” dominated the charts for weeks. Moreover, the project’s dark and creepy aesthetic, as well as Eilish’s raspy vocals made the album a major stand out. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? earned Billie Eilish five Grammy wins out of six nominations. Altogether, her raspy singing style matched with Finneas’ production helped usher in a new era of pop music at the time.

Steve Lacy Hilariously Recreates Ty Dolla $ign’s Infamous XXL Freestyle

XXL has been gathering talented young rap artists together for their yearly Freshman Class for well over a decade now. The artists they pick have the chance to show off their skills and personality in a variety of different events. The most well-known and highly anticipated of the bunch are always the freestyles and cyphers. For the latter groups of rappers are put together to flex their skills over the same beat, most famously done in the 2016 Cypher featuring Denzel Curry, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black.

But for the freestyle portion, artists are left all on their own with no beat to show off their skills. That’s exactly what Ty Dolla $ign did in 2014 with his now notorious freestyle. He attempted to translate his singing abilities and tendency to get hot and heavy into a freestyle. The hilariously raunchy results have caused it to become a commonly referenced meme among fans. That’s why it’s so funny that Steve Lacy, who must be a big fan himself, recently recreated the hilarious video. Lacy does a pretty great job at capturing both the mannerisms and vocalizations of Ty in the original video, which had fans absolutely cracking up. Check out both videos side by side below.

Steve Lacy has been basically silent musically since 2022. That’s when he released his second studio album Gemini Rights. The project spawned Lacy’s biggest hit to date, “Bad Habits.” The song became a slow-burning smash success that eventually climbed all the way up to number 1 on the Hot 100. The track currently sits with over 1 billion streams just on Spotify alone.

The Israeli military claimed it was targeting a Hamas installation. The country’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, labeled the loss of civilian life a “tragic mistake” in a speech at the Israeli Knesset afterward, according to CNN. Overall, Israel’s attacks in Gaza have killed over 36,000 Palestinians after 1,200 people were killed in Israel in the violent attacks on Oct. 7.

Cam’ron’s Wildest Interview Moments

Cam’Ron has been a force in East Coast Hip Hop since the early 90s. The Dipset founder’s career spans both TV and music, with his third studio album, Come Home With Me, featuring the iconic singles “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma.” However, Cam’Ron seems to have a secret extra talent: making interviews go viral. The Harlem legend has left quite a few interviewers dumbstruck over the years, and he’s recently done so again. In a now-viral interview with Abby Phillip on CNN, Cam’ron visibly drank a jar of his sexual enhancer, Pink Horse Power, and shared that would be going to get “some cheeks” after the interview. There have been other times when Cam’ron has been at the center of a wild interview, and the following seven are worthy of note.

The 2003 Source Awards Carpet

On the carpet for the 2003 Source Hip Hop Music Awards, Cam’ron and the rest of Dipset were left a bit dumbfounded. During an interview on the red carpet, a young interviewer named Andy held a fake petition for Cam’ron to sign. The petition, titled “B*itches are people too,” was as a result of the “negative music about females.” Not one to be pranked, Cam’Ron held his face straight and asked no questions as he reached for the petition and added his signature. Andy then promised to frame Cam’ron’s signature.

Cam’ron Flips The Tables On Bill O’Reilly

In 2003, Bill O’Reilly, the conservative firebrand, faced off against Cam’ron, during an interview on “The O’Reilly Factor.” The topic was: the impact of rap lyrics and other elements of Hip Hop culture on young people. O’Reilly, with his characteristic intensity, grilled Cam’ron and Damon Dash about their responsibility towards the content they produced. A third guest on the show was Principal Salome Thomas-El, who was also there to argue how the new Hip Hop was bad for children.

It didn’t take long for things to start going sideways. During the interview, O’Reilly began asking Cam’ron pointedly rude questions about his music and lifestyle. These questions were fielded by Dash for a while. However, in a hilarious turn, Cam’Ron, cool and collected, responded. He looked at O’Reilly with a smirk, and mockingly laughed, saying: “You maaad…I got dirt on you, doggy!”

The host, taken aback by Cam’Ron flipping the script, attempted to regain control. But Cam’ron’s composure remained unshaken. Dash would also try to return the interview back on track by talking about artistic freedom and questioning the framing of O’Reilly’s arguments. However, it was too late, and the interview was awkwardly wrapped up after a few minutes. Cam’ron had left the entire interview astonished.

Cam’ron’s Post-Shooting Interview

On October 23, 2005, Cam’ron, on his way from a D.C. nightclub, had his blue Lamborghini showered with gunfire during an attempted carjacking near Howard University. Cam’ron was shot once in the arm. In a subsequent news interview after his discharge, Cam’ron, with a rolled blunt in hand, recounted the ordeal to the press. With a curious mix of humor and nonchalance, he said, “I felt disrespected ’cause nobody’s gonna take a quarter million dollar car from me. Let alone a five cent piece of chewing gum.” He also used the opportunity for a quick promotion: “I got shot three times and my album comes out November 22.”

Cam’Ron also boldly told the press he would not be cooperating with the police. “I won’t just give up anything to anybody because they’re waving a gun around,” he said. Moreover, when asked if the attack was related to his career, Cam’ron showed more of his trademark humor. He insinuated that the robbers just didn’t like that he was successful. “It’s nothing. I’m all right. It’s just a flesh wound,” he said. “It’s just one of those things that happen when you live that kind of life.”

60 Minutes With Anderson Cooper

On April 19, 2007, Cam’ron met up with Anderson Cooper for an interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes. During this meeting, the rapper made some of his most controversial statements till date. Cam’ron explained to Cooper, how “There’s never a reason to help the police,” when Cooper questioned his “No Snitching” creed. Then, when asked if there were exceptions to the rule, such as a serial killer neighbor, Cam’ron continued by saying that even if he had a serial killer neighbor, he would not report them to the authorities. Instead, he would simply just move away to another neighborhood.

Furthermore, he shared that there would always be repercussions if he ever broke this code. He mentioned the carjacking from 2005, and why he chose not to report. According to him, any form of cooperation with the police would have cost him his “street cred.” Additionally, he would become a target. “Where I come from,” he said. “Once word gets out that you’ve cooperated with the police, that only makes you a bigger target of criminal violence.”

The backlash to the interview was immediate and intense. Cam’ron’s comments were met with criticism from various quarters, including those who had suffered personal tragedies or worked in law enforcement. Recognizing the impact of his words, Cam’ron issued an apology on April 26, 2007. He clarified that his comments were a reflection of his frustration with his circumstances, and not intended to be harmful.

The Angie Martinez Show

On February 1, 2007, on The Angie Martinez Show on Hot 97 Cam’ron made yet another iconic interview appearance. 50 Cent was the guest on the show, promoting his third studio album Curtis. He was taking calls when Cam’ron and Koch Records’ GM Alan Grunblatt dialed in. The conversation took a sharp turn when 50 Cent called Koch Records a “graveyard” for artists.

Cam’ron, defending his label and artists, challenged 50 Cent’s comments, leading to a back-and-forth over record sales and industry clout. The Harlem rapper questioned the success of G-Unit artists, compared to those under Koch. The back-and-forth then escalated as Cam’ron began to repeatedly taunt 50 Cent with his now-iconic jeer, “Curtisss! Curtiss! How much did the mob sell Curtiss?!”

Angie Martinez, found herself in the middle of the confrontation and tried to mediate to no avail. As tensions rose, she was forced to cut the call short. Despite the abrupt end to the on-air argument however, the feud continued off the air for some time. Nine years later, on August 9, 2016, 50 Cent and Cam’ron publicly ended their feud, sharing photos on Instagram and seemingly sharing a laugh together.

Drink Champs & Neighbor 29C

In a candid episode of Drink Champs, aired on April 3, 2021, Cam’ron shared the bewildering story of his neighbor, a woman now known to the world as 29C. Although he had shared a few clips on his Instagram before the interview, Cam’ron recounted to N.O.R.E how his simple interaction with 29C spiraled into bizarre territory. It began with the neighbor filming him from her terrace and escalated after a personal encounter. She allegedly also sent a direct message to Cam’ron stating what she actually wanted from him: “to have my Black babies,” a request he would consider.

After their hookup, the stalking situation allegedly took a turn for the worse. The neighbor’s behavior became obsessive, prompting Cam’ron to record the incidents and post on his Instagram, “just in case shit go left,” as he put it. Despite the tension, Cam’ron mentioned that he and 29C were on good terms at the time of the interview. The incident, while unsettling, was also leveraged by Cam’ron as a marketing opportunity for his product, Pink Horsepower. Three years later, in a CNN interview, Pink Horsepower made a grand appearance.

On CNN with Abby Phillip

Cam’ron’s interview with CNN’s Abby Phillip ended with a bag of mixed reactions and raised eyebrows. The interview, which occurred on May 21, was intended to discuss a recent graphic video involving Diddy assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Things quickly veered off course after Cam’Ron got a series of leading questions from Phillip. Specifically, she asked if Cam’Ron “recognized” Diddy’s aggressive behavior.

This, and a few other questions made Cam’ron unwilling to continue the interview. “I don’t know him like that, what do you mean did I recognize him?” he asked. “I’ve seen him. What you mean my experiences?” As the interview continued, Cam’ron took a moment to chug his sex enhancement product, Pink Horsepower. After that, he made a crude remark about his plans after the show. “Sorry, I’m gonna get some cheeks after this HorsePower joint.”

He then directed a question off camera: “Who booked me for this joint?” he asked, visibly irritated by the direction of the conversation. “You think I be sitting watching what Diddy do all this? I didn’t know this was a Diddy joint that y’all invited me to.” The segment was abruptly concluded and Phillip thanked him for appearing, and Cam’ron responded with a curt “thank you” before reiterating his earlier question about who booked him for the interview. He would later confirm on his podcast that he was intentionally uncooperative with the interviewer: “You call me on CNN for the bullsh*t, I’m gonna give you the bullsh*t.”

T-Pain Gets Down To “Not Like Us” At Las Vegas Show: Watch

Everyone and their mother are involved in this Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud one way or another. Somehow, T-Pain is in this too, after the auto-tune legend was seen dancing to “Not Like Us.” Debatably the biggest song of the entire back-and-forth war, the final stab to chest of Drake has continued to grow. Part of the reason for that is just how much it has been played at various artists’ concerts. Not too long ago, the West Coast anthem was being spun at one of Lil Wayne’s recent shows.

In the end is there really a better way to hype up a crowd than to play this brutal track? Well, the audience members at T-Pain’s Las Vegas show were certainly enjoying watching him get down to the bouncy track. In fact, one fan claims that “It was lit last night, played kdot song about 5x lol.” Another user agrees that it was “lit,” saying, “he was hittin that s*** tho😂

This was just the second tour stop for T-Pain last night. For those who do not know, the legend is in the beginning stages of his Mansion In Wiscansin Party Tour. According to Substream Magazine, this set of shows was named after the famous lyrics in the 2008 hit “Can’t Believe It”. It began on May 25 and it will run through July 3 in Miami. However, things will not be slowing after this solo trek. He will be joining Pitbull for the Party After Dark Tour starting on August 21.

What are your thoughts on T-Pain dancing to “Not Like Us” at his recent show? Do you think he is siding with Kendrick Lamar over Drake? Is this still the best song from the beef, why or why not? Do you believe it is being played to shower more hate on Drizzy, or because it is popular? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section.
