Goodie Mob’s Ceelo Green Turns 49 Years Old!

CeeLo Green

Recognized for his eclectic style and distinguishable voice, the Goodie Mob’s Ceelo Green will definitely be getting his “Soul Food” on today as he celebrates his 49th trip around the sun.

Ceelo was born Thomas DeCarlo Callaway-Burton in Atlanta, Georgia to two firefighter parents, both of whom he’s lost by the time he was 18. Green’s love for music started in the church, however, he rose to international fame shortly after embarking on a solo career. Green released two solo efforts before dropping his St. Elsewhere album with Danger Mouse in 2006 after forming the group Gnarls Barkly with the New York-based DJ/producer. ‘Crazy” aided in gaining both Green and Danger Mouse international fame, topping the pole position in the UK and Rolling Stone calling it the “greatest song of the decade.”

Green was one of ten guest musicians who contributed to the 1999 Santana album Supernatural. Lauryn Hill wrote “Do You Like the Way”, and she and Green both provided lead vocals. Green also contributed to the track “We’re All Gonna Die” on the 2000 album Eat at Whitey’s by Everlast, and the song “Reverse” on the 2000 album Forever by Puff Daddy.

Action Bronson Is Absurd As Ever On “Nourish A Thug” And It’s Awesome

Action Bronson is a charismatic guy. It’s the reason he’s been able to overcome his staggering vocal similarity to Ghostface Killah. It’s also the reason he’s landed roles in blockbuster comedies and gang epics opposite Robert De Niro. None of this would have happened, of course, were it not for Bronson’s ability to showcase his charisma in his music. He’s a lyrical Jackson Pollack, combining bizarre imagery with obscure references that somehow make sense when the verse is over. And he just treated fans to another splatter-style single, “Nourish a Thug.”

Bronsolino myth-making is on full display in the song’s opening lines. “It’s the doctor,” he raps. “Here to f*cking take your temperature the old way.” From there, he goes on absurdist spiels about exfoliating in a lake, breaking out of a cobra clutch, and watching the Tyson Fury fight with two female friends. There’s a random segment, also, where he threatens (?) to pull up at someone’s house and have Xzbit place a fish tank in his civic. It wouldn’t be an Action Bronson song without an obscure film reference, and he sneaks it in the very last line. “Ride around the city like the bad lieutenant, b*tch,” he concludes. It’s a harrowing but hilarious reference for anybody who’s seen the 1992 film of the same name.

Action Bronson Spits Over An 80s-Style Instrumental

Tying all these bars together is the lush instrumental. Action Bronson has always leaned towards unique samples and vibes, and “Nourish a Thug” is no different. It sounds like the sort of music that would play during a sting operation on Miami Vice. A little cheesy and a lot of synths. “Nourish a Thug” would’ve fit perfectly on Bronson’s 2020 album Only for Dolphins. As it stands, this is the first single for what we can only assume is the rapper’s new project. If the rest of the project matches the quality on display here, we are in for a treat.

What are your thoughts on “Nourish a Thug” by Action Bronson? Is this the rapper’s best single yet? Do you like the beat? Are you excited for Action Bronson’s upcoming album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

I’ll pull up to your crib with Xzibit
And have him put a f*cking fish tank in the civic
Slam dunk on two midgets cause its physics
In 96 hit the Blockbuster in the blizzard
95 m5 b*tches doing drag on hentai
9 million in the Rimowa

Big Hit, Hit-Boy And The Alchemist Deliver On Gritty “Black & Whites”

Big Hit, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist represent three different phases of hip-hop. Big Hit brings the gritty appeal of an industry veteran despite being relatively new to the game. His son, Hit-Boy, has been one of the most versatile producers of the last decade. The Alchemist, meanwhile, has been lacing beats for the best rappers in the game for over thirty years. There was a risk that bunching them together would result in their strengths canceling out, resulting in a subpar album. Thankfully, that’s not what happened here.

Black & Whites, the debut album from this trio, is a triumph. In a very particular field, that is. The album is not going for summer playlists or radio play, it’s going for the grime and the soulfulness of the best street albums the genre has to offer. “Heartless” sees Big Hit weave cold-blooded bars over an Alchemist beat with a gorgeous vocal sample. There’s no drums, just Hit’s propulsive flow and Alc’s wizardy working in tandem. The soul chops on “Sly, Slick & Wicked” and the titular track are worth the price of admission. Hit-Boy and Alchemist have incredible chemistry behind the boards, and nearly steal the show from their emcee. Fortunately, Big Hit brings his A-game whenever he’s paired with guest features.

Big Hit And His Producers Attempt Different Styles

The rapper and Boldy James sound mean as hell on the the East Coast-centric “Godfather, Pt. 2.” Then the former turns around and trades verse space with HitgirlLENA on the effortlessly catchy, West Coast-bounce of “Gank Move.” “Gank Move” closes out Black & Whites on a deceptively warm note, but most of what’s here is chilly, efficient, and excellently made. If you liked the promo single “Drug Tzar,” you’re going to love the rest of what’s here.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album Black & Whites by Big Hit, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist? Do you think the two producers work well together? What is the best song? Do you want to hear future projects from the trio? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Nicki Minaj Brings Out Beenie Man During Her London Concert

Nicki Minaj has been on a roll lately. She broke the record for the highest grossing tour by a female rapper, and her latest album, contained her first solo number one single. The positive vibes have been carried over by Minaj, who has welcomed multiple guests during her shows. She reunited with Drake at the Toronto show, and gave the fellow Young Money artist his flowers in early May. Minaj decided to kick things up a notch during her London show, however. She brought the King of Dancehall, Beenie Man, out to perform.

The rapper welcomed Beenie Man with all the reverence one would expect. All she asked for upon his entrance was a hug, and then she proceeded to bow down before Beenie Man and the rest of the crowd. Beenie Man quickly repaid the compliment, noting that Minaj is the queen of hip-hop if he is the king of dancehall. The two artists then helped Minaj and Beenie Man sing along to the classic Beenie Man track “I’m Drinking / Rum & Redbull.” Nicki Minaj is known for being one of the most outspoken and boisterous artists in the genre, so her deference was notable. The rapper even posted about the onstage collab via X (formerly Twitter).

Nicki Minaj Considers Beenie Man An “Inspiration”

“I just performed with the KING OF DANCEHALL,” Minaj tweeted. “One of the most talented musicians that I looked to for inspiration my entire career. I can’t believe this is my life sometimes. Wow. One of my heroes. I love this man so much. @KingBeenieMan.” The rapper may be New York raised, but she was born in Trinidad, and has made a point of incorporating dancehall influences into her music. She made this evident on the Pink Friday 2 cut “Forward from Trini,” which featured appearances from artists like Skillibeng and Skeng.

Nicki Minaj even got on Stationhead to tell fans that didn’t like her dancehall cuts to get with it. “Y’all, some of them don’t like it, but it’s okay,” she noted. “They’re gonna have to get with it… I’m sorry if y’all can’t understand this kind of music.” Minaj isn’t the first Young Money artist to link up with Beenie Man, either. Drake featured the legendary artists on his blockbuster 2016 album Views. Beenie didn’t have an actual verse on a song, but he provided the outro on “Controlla.”

Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards Shared Cher’s Reaction To His Fight With Travis Scott At A Cannes Film Festival Party

Take a deep breath before diving into this one.

Last Thursday, May 23, Travis Scott, Tyga, Alexander “AE” Edwards, and Cher attended Richie Akiva’s annual amFAR The After party during Cannes Film Festival, where Edwards and Scott engaged in “a physical altercation,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Several outlets reported the fight. TMZ provided grainy video showing punches thrown between Edwards and 808 Mafia producer Southside, with Scott eventually getting involved. TMZ cited unnamed witnesses claiming “Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards was the instigator, as he ran up on stage and initiated physical contact with Travis Scott.”

On Wednesday, May 29, TMZ caught Edwards, a Universal Music Group executive who has been romantically linked to Cher since late 2022, at Los Angeles International Airport and asked him about the messy ordeal.

Edwards initially played dumb when asked about the “crazy incident” before shaking his head and saying, “It’s all good.”

“Shout-out Southside,” Edwards said during the two-minute TMZ video. “That’s my n****. I know he was defending his boy and doing what he was supposed to be doing as his boy. I don’t got no hard feelings. It is what it is. It went how it went. That’s it.”

The TMZ reporter asked Edwards to clarify what initiated the fight, but Edwards declined to go into detail, saying, “I don’t wanna fight. I don’t initiate that sh*t. […] But I’m gonna protect myself and my people. That’s it. That’s all it is.” Edwards said he hasn’t spoken with Scott and didn’t have any message for him. “They got the message,” he said.

Of course, Edwards was also asked whether Cher was upset about Edwards’ behavior, and he cited Future and Metro Boomin’s “GTA” in response: “Hell nah. Like Future say, ‘Whatever I’m with, my b*tch with it, too.” Edwards laughed and clarified, “My woman, but the lyrics are the lyrics.” Edwards concluded by confirming that he and Cher are “a happy family.”

Read an excerpt from TMZ’s original report below.

“Sources familiar with the situation tell us the fight started after both Travis and Tyga were on stage behind the DJ booth … and when Richie grabbed the mic he gave props to both rappers, saying something to the effect of, ‘We got T-Raww, AE and Travis in the building.’

We’re told Travis seemed pissed he was being lumped in with Tyga — possibly a Kylie Jenner exes thing — so, Travis snatched the mic out of Ritchie’s hand, prompting AE to say something to Trav. For context, AE and Tyga are besties.”

BIA Hints At JID Feature On Her Upcoming Single “Lights Out”

BIA has been building an excellent career. She signed to Pharrell’s label in 2014, and since then, she’s landed coveted collabs with the likes of Kali Uchis and J Balvin. The remix to her 2021 single, “Whole Lotta Money,” featured a fun verse from Nicki Minaj and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. BIA is the real deal, which is why fans are so excited about the possibility of collaborating with another established talent: JID. She posted a video of her and JID conversing, and now the world desperately wants them to link up on a song.

BIA posted the video on May 28. The singer is on the set of a music video with a green screen. She’s talking with makeup artists about the set up of a particular shot, and who else but JID wanders into the frame. The rapper is impressed with what he sees, calling it “fire.” BIA then gives him a hug before she hits her mark. The video is brief, but it definitely seems like BIA is teasing JID’s involvement in her new song. She announced the release of her single “Lights Out” on June 7. The general consensus (or hope) is that JID will be featured on it. He’s even listed on the song’s Genius page.

BIA has aimed to get the focus back on her music since the social media controversy that went down in April. The singer was accused of lying about her lineage. Fans began to question her ethnic background, which led to her firing back with proof. “U still don’t know the difference between race and ethnicity,” she tweeted at a user. “B*tch pick up a book. It’s called Afro Latina stupid.” She also dragged those who tried to suggest she was not Black. “Are you really that slow,” she asked. “How did biracial ppl even get here? Do you know what Puerto Rican are? African Taino and European. There are Jamaican Indians you f*ckin idiot pick up a book.”

JID, meanwhile, is riding a critical high. His last release, The Forever Story, was hailed by many as the best album of 2023. He’s teased a collaborative project with Metro Boomin, and he told People that he wants to get involved in filmmaking. “Like I can recall a lot of situations that meant a lot to me and were pivotal in my journey,” he told the outlet. “I’ll do that. And I’ll probably put it in the form of a movie, too. I’m big into directing and all of that stuff… I want to make sure I tap into that before my time is.”

Bow Wow Teases New Collaboration With Chris Brown This Summer

Bow Wow had hits in the 2000s. The rapper made the leap from teen star to grown man with hits like “Shortie Like Mine” and “Like You.” The thing is, he stepped away from the music scene in 2009. His last studio album was New Jack City II, and since then, he’s focused on reality TV and hosting gigs. It’s been a successful avenue for him, but it looks like he might be working on some new music. The rapper got on X (formerly Twitter) on May 29 to tease something major with Chris Brown

We’re not going to beat around the bush since Bow Wow didn’t. He didn’t bother with any subtle hints or photos, he just tweeted: “Bow Wow x Chris Brown… June 2024.” There’s always a chance that the collab could be non-musical, but given what these two artists have gotten up to in the past, a song seems like the most obvious outcome. Bow Wow and Breezy worked together on the aforementioned “Shortie Like Mine” in 2006. The song, which also featured Johntá Austin, peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the US Hot Rap Songs chart. It was certified Platinum in the United States, and remains one of Bow Wow’s signature hits.

Bow Wow Has Been Teasing His Final Album Since 2021

Bow Wow and Chris Brown have two other songs together. “Outta My System” also dropped in 2006, while “Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You” was released three years later. Their upcoming collaboration will likely be for Bow Wow’s album Before 30, which was first announced in 2021. The rapper told Hot 97 that he will drop one more body of work before calling it a day on music. “I’ma do one more album,” he told the host. “It’s gonna be the last one and it’s gonna be called Before 30. I’ma have Snoop [Dogg] narrate the whole thing. So it’s gonna be kind of a different project, 10 songs.”

Bow Wow gave fans an update on the album in 2022. He confirmed Before 30 was coming, and claimed that it would be released through Death Row Records, which is now owned by Snoop. “Spoke to Snoop last week,” he tweeted. “Very soon. My plan is to put my final album on Death Row and close my music career out where it began. I’m tryna do the D Wade and come home and close it out.” Things went quiet once again in 2023, but this latest teaser suggests that the rapper is finally ready to begin the Before 30 rollout. Let’s see what Breezy and him have in store.
