Donald Glover Promised New Childish Gambino On His ‘GILGA Radio’ Livestream

It has been about four years since Donald Glover last released music as Childish Gambino, but he’s making his return in typically splashy fashion. After joining Tyler The Creator onstage during his headlining set at Coachella and performing “Time” from his last album 3.15.20, Glover returned to Twitter (never X) to announce his GILGA Radio livestream on Instagram. When a fan replied to inquire about new music, Glover cheekily responded, “Of course. It’s a rollout, dummy.”

Glover first teased his return to music earlier this year. In March, he shared a screenshot of what appeared to be a tracklist for a new album called Atavista on Instagram — the first indication of new music since he reversed course on his decision to retire the Childish Gambino persona in 2020. In a 2023 interview with Complex, he joked that Tyler The Creator had encouraged him to be less “cryptic” about his endeavors. ” I just like suspense, I guess,” he explained. “I think it makes stuff better. But that’s just me.”

In 2023, Glover told E! News, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.” It looks like that something is happening very soon.

Drake’s ongoing war of words with nearly half of rap has reached a new level of petty. Some would even consider it a full-on family affair.

Yesterday (April 13), Rick Ross released his recorded response to his past collaborator’s subtle jabs. At the end of “Champagne Moments,” Ross claimed Drake underwent a cosmetic procedure. This isn’t the first time Drake has been accused of going under the knife (hi, Megan Thee Stallion). Instead of abdominal etching or liposuction, Ross alleged that Drake “got his nose done” or rhinoplasty on the track.

So, Drake took to his Instagram stories to clap back at Ross with the help of his mother, Sandi. In a text message exchange with Mommy dearest, the pair laughed at the suggestion. When asked by his mother if there was any validation to the rumor, Drake replied: “It’s coming from the guy I did songs with. He’s gone loopy off the Mounjaro. He hasn’t eaten in days, and it’s turned him angry and racist.”

To ensure Ross saw the thread, Drake tagged him in the post. “You’re one nosey goof,” he wrote.

Childish Gambino To Premiere New Music Sunday Night: Details

Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, has confirmed that he’ll be debuting new music on Sunday at 11:00 PM, PST on GILGA Radio. Taking to Twitter earlier in the day, he revealed the livestream details and noted that he is in the process of an album rollout. In an announcement post, he wrote: “GILGA Radio tonight @ 11pm pst. Live streamed on Instagram @donaldglover.” When one fan asked whether he’d be playing new music, Gambino added: “Of course. It’s a rollout dummy.”

Fans were stoked about the announcement in Gambino’s replies. One user wrote: “WE WILL BE THERE NO MATTER WHAT!!!” Another responded: “I f*cking missed you please please please rap again.” Other users joked that he’ll be joining in on the massive feud between Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Rick Ross, and several more artists.

The upcoming project will be Gambino’s first since 3.15.20 dropped in March over four years ago. He previously confirmed he was working on new music behind the scenes during an interview with Laverne Cox at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. “I’m making music right now,” he said at the time. “I love it. Moreover, we’ve got our newest update of our R&B Season playlist, rounding up the best the genre’s sphere of influence had to offer this week. First up is PARTYNEXTDOOR, who’s continuing to build up a lot of hype for his next album dropping very soon. This time, it’s via the slow-burning and DMX-sampling “Lose My Mind,” which is pretty much exactly what fans expect from the OVO crooner. The vocal performance is dynamic, the instrumental is sultrily atmospheric, and it indicates that P4 will be a fitting return for his style.

Next up on R&B Season this week is the “Nasty” new single from Tinashe, which is a more cheekily seductive and playful cut compared to “Lose My Mind.” Furthermore, the melodies are well-defined, catchy, and paired with a minimal but still bouncy beat. Along a similarly fun vein that’s more perky than provocative, we have the latest cut from Jordan Ward, “Player Two,” from the Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead remake film. The latest development in this feud is a recent appearance that the latter gave at a club, at which he wore a hoodie of the former and played his music while cutting it off on occasion. Rozay was on the mic trash talking and living in the moment, following with his relentless trolling of the 6ix God online for his alleged nose job and his other rumored surgeries. Still, for some fans, this is all moot if it isn’t on wax.

Fortunately for Rick Ross, at least he has his lightning-fast response to Drake’s diss track to stand by, even if he’s just repeating many of his same talking points there online. Here’s what Drizzy had to say about the response and these cosmetic allegations to his mother, who texted him about people being nosy about his sniffer. “I would have got us a 2 for 1 deal if I went ma,” he wrote after many crying-laughing emojis, denying the speculaton. “It’s coming from Rick Ross the guy I did songs with. Basically, he was making fun of how “Cupcake Drake” shared his messages with his mother and had to tell her about his feud. The Maybach Music Group mogul also kept calling him “white boy” and “big nose,” and continued his clowning of the OVO boss’ alleged liposuction. However, he also called Sandra Graham a “beautiful lady” who should know that her son “stayed out at the park too late,” so he didn’t extend the disrespect to the family.

“Bruh just use Alibaba lmfaooo,” one fan joked, whereas another wrote, “How you a millionaire with zero connections.” Others clowned Meek Mill for taking to Twitter when search engines are a thing, such as this amusing example: “I swear meek thinks twitter is google.” Of course, there were also plenty of people actually offering their help, whether it was just to troll the “Soul Survivors” rapper or to try to get their big business break. Now that Drake’s leaked diss has officially set the stage for what might be the biggest rap battle we’ve seen since Jay-Z and Nas, everyone has one question dominating their mind: when and how will Kendrick Lamar respond? It’s important to note that the OVO mogul went for three full weeks since “Like That” before dropping a response on wax (albeit indirectly but… who’s buying that this wasn’t calculated?). Now, folks like DJ Akademiks think that K.Dot has a limited time to respond, as he expressed with a recent tweet. “You are on the clock,” he quote-tweeted a post from his TV page about this Drizzy line on the leak: “You had a song for four years, drop that s**t or shut your mouth.”

Furthermore, this is obviously inspiring a lot of debate among rap fans, especially given Rick Ross’ lightning-fast response to the shots he caught on the leak. Some folks think that Kendrick Lamar should at least have as much time as Drake had in the public eye to drop a lyrical retaliation. Others think that the aforementioned “four years” bar puts a bit more pressure on him to act fast. Moreover, this last phenomenon is due to a clip of Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith embracing at the festival. In the video below, you can see the former hug the latter from behind and sway around dancing, and then the Canadian superstar lands a kiss on his friend’s cheek. Of course, this led to a lot of pause-core reactions from users in the comments section below, many of which simply made fun of an innocuous public display of affection.

For example, here are some standouts: “That white n***a in front them looking like he can’t believe his own 2 eyes,” “i don’t care what anybody says i don’t just kiss my boys on the cheek every time i leave,” and “Why everyone moving gay now? Is it the new trend???” Sure, it’s a pretty suggestive and odd interaction, but more so because of the public TMI nature of it, not the act itself. During her recent Hot Ones appearance, for example, she explained that the LP has finally passed the “car test.” She also noted that she’s taking her time on the album, as she wants to be sure that it lives up to her listeners’ expectations.

Fortunately, the Bronx-born MC decided to give her fans a taste of what’s to come during her recent set at Coachella. She performed an unnamed, unreleased track, which will presumably appear on Y2K. Of course, the crowd went wild. Elsewhere during her performance, Ice Spice also performed hits like “Deli,” “In Ha Mood,” “Munch,” and more.
