Lil Yachty & J. Cole Are Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update’s “Secret Recipe”

This week’s Fire Emoji playlist update is ushering in the last quarter of the year, and September closed off with some absolute heat. In fact, there was an interesting theme this week when it came to new releases in hip-hop: duos. For example, Lil Yachty and J. Cole impressed everyone with their lyrical chemistry over an old-school-feeling beat on the track “The Secret Recipe.” In addition, we got some more expected and long-awaited fare from an iconic team-up in rap: Rick Ross and Meek Mill. Moreover, they just released their triumphant and bar-heavy single “SHAQ & KOBE,” the preview to their upcoming full-length collab project.

Furthermore, this week’s Fire Emoji edition couldn’t go without mentioning Lil Wayne’s Tha Fix Before Tha VI, the anticipatory project to his long-awaited Tha Carter VI album. Specifically, we had to highlight the relentless flows, wordplay, and consistent hunger displayed on the track “Slip.” Another highlight off that tape is “To The Bank” with Cool & Dre, on which Weezy taps into his trap bag and shows he can do it just as well. Also, there were other similarly high-energy cuts this week, namely “ISSA PARTY” from Latto and BabyDrill.

However, we also need some time to chill down a little on Fire Emoji, and who better to fuse those two worlds together than Rod Wave? His cut “Turks & Caicos” with 21 S*vage off of his new album Nostalgia is low-key, but still packs a percussive punch while paying lyrical and melodic homage to Hov (we’ll let you find out which track he references). The new CMG compilation Gangsta Art 2 also brought us some bangers, such as “Cha Cha Cha” with GloRilla and Fivio Foreign, plus “50/50” by Moneybagg Yo. To keep the duos theme going, we have Lyrical Lemonade’s new single off their upcoming album, “Guitar In My Room” with Lil Durk and Kid Cudi.

Meanwhile, YG and Tyga’s new mixtape Hit Me When U Leave The Klub: The Playlist held a standout in “Brand New” with Tunechi’s assistance. Finally, we have Kelvin Krash’s new album HARSH, who tapped A$AP Rocky on the song “GET A GRIP.” Let us know what your favorite hype release of the week was in the comments down below. Check out our Fire Emoji playlist update above and stay up to date on HNHH for more great rap releases each week.

Erica Mena Says Bernice Burgos Is Her Skin Colour Goals, Responds To “Blackfacing” Backlash

After a rough few weeks of being one of the most-talked-about reality stars in America, Erica Mena felt that the time was right for a vacation. She and some of her closest friends are currently soaking up the sun together, and the former Love & Hip-Hop cast member has been surprisingly active on social media. Seeing as she’s still in hot water for referring to Spice as a “monkey” on Love & Hip-Hop, we assumed Mena might be fixing to take a break from the public eye. However, according to her latest livestream, she’s got plenty of exciting projects in the works, and some ambitious goals for her physical appearance.

While broadcasting to her Instagram followers, the New York native proudly showed off her curvy booty in a string-cut bathing suit. “I better leave here the same colour as Bernice,” she told her company off-camera while floating in the pool. “If I’m not Bernice’s colour, I’m not getting on that plane,” Mena said with a smile, referring to Drake’s former lover, Bernice Burgos.

Of course, it wasn’t long before Mena began to face criticism for aspiring to darken her complexion after insulting a Black woman. Thankfully, there were a few people who came to her defence. “She’s referring to Bernice because they are both of Hispanic/Latina culture. Practically saying how can she hate Black as a skin colour when her nationality produces the same skin colours,” one person inferred on @theneighborhoodtalk’s post.

“Who wouldn’t want to have Bernice’s beautiful colour?” Mena asked when sticking up for herself in @theshaderoom’s comments this afternoon. “Especially on vacation,” she continued. “The fact that I actually do get colour naturally in the sun ALL my life and it’s now being considered as me blackfacing is pathetic.”

SZA’s Old Tweets About Other Artists Resurface Amid Drama With Teen Concertgoer

SZA didn’t like it very much when a young fan attending her SOS Tour recreated a viral meme insulting the 33-year-old’s vocal abilities, and at first, many social media users sympathized with her. However, in the hours since a video breaking down a TikToker’s experience interacting with SZA went viral, old tweets allegedly from the black-haired beauty’s account have been circulating – and they’re not very flattering.

One star who fell victim to a diss from SZA in 2011 was Queen B herself. “Beyonce looking more and more like Madonna every day,” the R&B diva wrote at the time. “Coulda swore she was Black at one point… #JustSayin.” Elsewhere on her profile, trolls dug up her take on the infamous Ciara and Rihanna feud, which found her taking aim at both of the singers. “I don’t get it!” was her thought process in February of the same year. “Neither @rihanna or Ciara can hold a note worth a d**n. One’s just worse than the other. So [what’s] the beef?!?”

SZA was Ruthless with Her Twitter Fingers Back in the Day

Interestingly, when similar sentiments were made about her singing, SZA expected better from her fans. “I don’t think you realize how f**ked up that actually is and how hurtful it was back then and how it RUINED my confidence and desire to perform live,” she lashed out in the 18-year-old’s comments earlier this year before further tearing into her in her DMs. “Before I block you, I just wanna remind you, Imma PERSON. Like, I have feelings and a life and anxiety, like anyone else, and it’s really hard to have courage to get up on stage and even wanna do my job,” the “All The Stars” hitmaker vented.

Even though SZA’s haters have gotten her down in the past, at this point in her career, it’s unlikely that the TDE artist will let a few negative comments dull her sparkle. She’s got plenty to look forward to over the coming months, including the highly anticipated Jingle Ball Tour, which the Ctrl singer is headlining alongside Nicki Minaj and Olivia Rodrigo. Read more about that at the link below, and tell us your thoughts on SZA’s old tweets in the comments.

Lil Uzi Vert’s “Luv Is Rage 3” Album Is Coming Soon, They Promise At Concert

Rappers have been steadily releasing new music all year long, though it wasn’t until Lil Uzi Vert came through with their Pink Tape that the genre secured its first No. 1 album of 2023. On that, the Philly native collaborated with an impressive roster of artists, including Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Don Toliver, and Bring Me The Horizon. Some creatives would take a lengthy break after delivering such an impressive feat, but LUV has remained focused on completing more gifts to share with their fans.

The “Just Wanna Rock” hitmaker’s main focus has been Barter 16, which we’re patiently waiting for to arrive on DSPs. Aside from that, they’ve also been hinting at a follow-up to 2017’s Luv Is Rage 2 for quite some time, though social media users are reluctant to believe the hype. Ahead of this week, Uzi confirmed during a live performance that the third installment in the beloved album series is in the works. As you may recall, the recording artist hinted in mid-summer that it would only be “a couple of months” before their work was ready for its big debut.

Lil Uzi Vert Has Plenty of Music On the Way

“Hey now, I’m ’bout to drop ‘Luv Is Rage 3’,” the entertainer declared in the video above. “You know I only drop ‘Luv Is Rage’ when my heart is hurting. It’s about that time,” they vulnerable admitted. While many fans are happily reacting to the news, others are speculating that it could be some time before the LP drops. “This ni**a is a boldface liar and I’m tired of it,” one Twitter user declared. “I can’t wait to look back on this video in a few months and caption it, ‘What was the point of this?’” another wrote.

Lil Uzi Vert has kept mostly quiet about Luv Is Rage 3 since this summer, but they’ve been regularly giving us updates on their Barter 16 project over the past few weeks. The project has already been turned in, and though a tentative release date was set earlier this month, it hasn’t landed on DSPs quite yet. Read what LUV has been saying about the highly anticipated LP at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
