Why Does Kid Cudi Have Beef With Childish Gambino?

2024 has been beef season in the rap world but while everyone from Ice Spice to The Weeknd is embroiled in some type of feud or another (and Drake is somehow embroiled in at least five at the same time) at least one artist out there doesn’t want smoke with anybody, least of all the guy who seems to have it out for him the worst. During a recent live stream, Donald Glover invited Kid Cudi to have a conversation with him to hash out their issues, saying “I’m not here for the beef.” But why does Kid Cudi have beef with Childish Gambino in the first place?

The origin of their issues is unclear; in an interview last year, Glover recalled being booed while opening for Cudi on tour back when they were both still relatively new artists. However, neither had ever publicly intimated any discord existed between them until a fan suggested the two collaborate on a project on Twitter in February, or at least release their song “Warlords,” which leaked online but hadn’t received an official release date. In response, Cudi quoted back, “Im cool.”

Fans immediately thought that the pair had some sort of friction, but in reality, it could be as simple as Cudi being focused on his own projects — which do technically compete with Glover’s. Cudi has a full slate of work coming up, from his Insano tour to a new album along with a bunch of film and television projects still in the works. It could be just a predilection for pugilism, as some fans think; just this past January, Cudi had a heated back-and-forth with Lupe Fiasco.

Kid Cudi Seemingly Has Beef With Donald Glover, But Glover Just Isn’t Interested

Back in February, an X (formerly Twitter) user tweeted, “@KiDCuDi You and Gambino gotta work on something whether it’s TV, movies, or music we’d love to see/hear it! Your guys’ song Warlords needs an official release!” Kid Cudi shared the tweet and replied, “Im cool.”

This seemingly indicated Cudi has some sort of issue with Donald Glover/Childish Gambino, although based on publicly available information, it’s not clear why. Whatever the case, Glover has addressed it.

As HotNewHipHop notes, during a recent Instagram Live broadcast, a fan asked Glover for his thoughts on Cudi. Glover said, “Kid Cudi, if you got a problem, like, I’m not here for the beef. Just, like, talk to me. […] ‘Cause it’s like, we don’t have to agree on everything, but we also don’t have to be like, ‘Yeah, when I see you, we have to want to kill each other.’ I don’t… man, life is too short.”

Back in the day, early in Glover’s music career, he opened for Cudi and didn’t have an awesome time. He reminisced about that last year, saying, “At the time, I had a full band and a violinist. I just kept turning to the band and telling them, ‘Next song! Next song!’ I put on a really intense show through the boos.”

Childish Gambino Shuts Down Kid Cudi Feud: “Life’s Too Short”

Rap beef isn’t for everybody. It seems like every big game in the game is currently beefing, but Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover has no interest in participating. The rapper recently got on Instagram Live to promote his upcoming albums, and he made it clear that he doesn’t have any ill will towards Kid Cudi, despite rumors that the two of them are beefing. As far as Gambino is concerned, “life’s too short” to focus on dissing others.

Gambino was fielding questions toward the end of his IG Live, when a fan asked about the Cudi situation. The rapper took a beat before stating that he would prefer to sit down with Kid Cudi in person and hash things out then resort to making vague threats on wax. “Kid Cudi, if you got a problem, like, I’m not here for the beef,” Gambino asserted. “Just like, talk to me. … ‘Cause it’s like we don’t have to agree on everything but we also don’t have to be like, ‘When I see you, we have to wanna kill each other’.”

Childish Gambino Prefers To Talk To Cudi

The alleged tension between Gambino and Cudi started in February 2024. A fan reached out to Cudi on Twitter and said they would love to see him and Gambino collaborate. “You and Gambino gotta work on something,” the fan wrote. “Whether it’s TV, movies, or music we’d love to see/hear it.” Evidently, Cudi was not interested. “I’m cool,” he responded. Gambino did not address the frigid exchange at the time, but his measured feelings on the matter via Instagram Live suggest there won’t be any mention of it in the future.

Childish Gambino tensions have been in the air for a lot of rappers recently. Tyler, The Creator talked about the “Redbone” rapper during his recent Coachella set, and admitted that he used to despise him. He told the crowd that was not a fan until he heard Gambino’s 2013 song “Urn,” but has loved his music ever since. “It was so undeniable, I was at conflict with myself,” Tyler admitted. “And now, the tables have turned and this n***a barely returns my calls.” The two artists are now on good terms, however, so there’s hope that a similar peace can be reached between Gambino and Cudi.

Tyler The Creator Admits He Used To Hate Childish Gambino

Tyler The Creator was easily one of the standout sets at Coachella’s Weekend One this year, continuing to cement his status as one of the best live performers working today. Not only did he have an amazing stage set-up and theatrics, plus a really well-rounded setlist and consistently quality performances, but he invited a couple of his famous friends to help him out. Charlie Wilson sang as the Hawthorne native played piano, Kali Uchis came out to give a gorgeous rendition of their hit “See You Again,” and A$AP Rocky turned the crowd up with ease. However, the most surprising guest of the night was Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino. He came out to perform T’s IGOR gem “RUNNING OUT OF TIME” alongside him, and they seemed to have an absolute blast together.

The reason why this was so surprising is because they have relatively few link-ups in the past, and the former Odd Future creative explained that he wasn’t always a fan of Mr. Glover. “I used to hate that n***a,” Tyler, The Creator told the crowd after Childish Gambino left the stage. “Seriously. I don’t know why. I gotta go to therapy to figure it out. Then this n***a put this song called ‘Urn’ out. It was so undeniable, n***a. I was at conflict with myself, ’cause I’m like, ‘F**k! How could a n***a that I hate so much be so good?’ And now, the tables have turned and this n***a barely returns my calls.

“Donald, I f**k with you,” Tyler, The Creator continued for Donald Glover. “Thank you for putting out s**t that exceeds expectations or the perception that n***as like us should make. I love you. Thank you for existing and thank you for coming out. Please give him another round of applause.” For those unaware, their relationship has become more public and amicable over the past few years. Their Regular Show rap battle during the Cartoon Network program’s third season, though, premiered in 2011, which is before “Urn” dropped and thus before Tyler’s epiphany.

Tyler Reflects On His Relationship With Donald Glover

Nevertheless, the cover image above is from a 2019 LACMA gala, Glover seemed to mention the “SORRY NOT SORRY” MC during a recent Complex interview, and he also attended the Louis Vuitton designer’s event launching his collection this year. Obviously, a lot of fans are begging for music from them, and with a Gambino rollout commencing, we’ll see whether it manifests. Donald Glover Lays Out The Plan For His Final Two Childish Gambino Albums

Donald Glover shared some exciting news yesterday. More specifically, he started by sharing exciting news about exciting news: He announced a GILGA Radio Instagram livestream, on which he promised to share some new music. Now that the broadcast has come and gone, we know some more about what the end of Childish Gambino will look like.

During the show, Glover revealed that there are two more Gambino projects on the way, saying, “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans.” Elsewhere in the broadcast was a teaser for the “original soundtrack” to Bando Stone & The New World, which will serve as that final Gambino album.

Glover teased Atavista a month ago, and it is set to be a re-worked version of his 2020 album 3/15/20. As was indicated, the Bando Stone project is set to accompany a new movie. Elsewhere during the project, Glover also noted that he’s working on an anime project alongside Zach Fox.

Last year, Glover told E! News, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.”

It has been about four years since Donald Glover last released music as Childish Gambino, but he’s making his return in typically splashy fashion. After joining Tyler The Creator onstage during his headlining set at Coachella and performing “Time” from his last album 3.15.20, Glover returned to Twitter (never X) to announce his GILGA Radio livestream on Instagram. When a fan replied to inquire about new music, Glover cheekily responded, “Of course. It’s a rollout, dummy.”

Glover first teased his return to music earlier this year. In March, he shared a screenshot of what appeared to be a tracklist for a new album called Atavista on Instagram — the first indication of new music since he reversed course on his decision to retire the Childish Gambino persona in 2020. In a 2023 interview with Complex, he joked that Tyler The Creator had encouraged him to be less “cryptic” about his endeavors. ” I just like suspense, I guess,” he explained. “I think it makes stuff better. But that’s just me.”

In 2023, Glover told E! News, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.” It looks like that something is happening very soon.

Tyler The Creator Fulfilled His Decade-Long Dream Of Headlining Coachella With ASAP Rocky, Childish Gambino, And More

Tyler The Creator pulled out all the stops for his high-flying headlining set at Coachella 2024, opening with an explosive stage entrance and bringing out a slew of surprise guests, including ASAP Rocky, Charlie Wilson, Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover), and Kali Uchis. During the set, he reminisced about his first playing Coachella back in 2011 with Odd Future and how chaotic that set was in comparison. In his own words: “I didn’t even know what Coachella was.”

On Saturday night, he fulfilled a decade-long dream of headlining (which included an undercard performance in 2018 that presaged his eventual top billing), incorporating a park ranger motif with a set designed to look like a desert mesa. Over the course of the show, he brought flames, fireworks, and a UFO that hovered over him and Rocky as they performed “Who Dat Boy” from Flower Boy and the standalone “Potato Salad.” Meanwhile, Glover popped out to perform a smooth rendition of his 3.15.20 track “Time.” Kali Uchis naturally showed up to sing hre chorus from their collaboration “See You Again,” while Wilson sat at a piano with Tyler to sing his part from “Earfquake.”

Tyler’s set certainly lived up to the hype. Then, near the end, he was blown off one of the buttes surrounding him and yanked off stage in another masterfully crafted stunt. And just like that, in the words of his Call Me When You Get Lost collaborator DJ Drama, he was gone.

Billy Dee Williams Teases Donald Glover Lightly Over Lando Calrissian Character

Billy Dee Williams brought Lando Calrissian to life in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, entering the minds and hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere since. But amid reports of the development of a new movie based on Cloud City’s suave administrator and eventual Rebel general, he had some light teasing to do to the character’s young interpreter, Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino. Moreover, Glover portrayed Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, and his take on a younger version of the character was pretty well-acclaimed despite other issues folks had with Solo. Yet Billy Dee thinks that the entertainer’s performance stands on his massive shoulders.

I had a nice little lunch with him,” Billy Dee Williams told Radio Times magazine of Donald Glover. “He’s a delightful young man. Extremely talented. But I don’t see him… I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian, there’s only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character.” However, he knows that Lando has to evolve with a new generation, so he offered Glover some advice to be more charming and mold the character to a new audience, set of demands, and artistic approach in the narrative. As the 86-year-old remarked, he already defined Lando in the 20th century, and now it’s time for Gambino to do the same for the 21st century.

Not only that, but Billy Dee Williams also suggested that there’s one way that Disney could convince him to return to the role. “Pay me a lot of money and I’ll sell my soul,” he told the publication. For those unaware, the entertainment company already did so for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, for which the New York City native reprised his iconic portrayal of Lando Calrissian 36 years after his last appearance as the character in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. We’ll see if he ever sells his soul again.

Meanwhile, Childish Gambino is working on possibly remastering and re-releasing his 2020 album 3.15.20. While that’s only based on social media teases, a lot of folks are expecting new music from him very soon. But if you’re more into the 40-year-old’s screen work, there’s plenty more where that came from as of late. Childish Gambino Teases ‘Atavista,’ The Musician’s First Full-Length Album In Over Four Years

Mr. & Mrs. Smith star Donald Glover has crafted a rather impressive resume of onscreen work (which he doesn’t mind bragging about). But what most people tend to forget is he’s also a musician. So it looks as if Glover plans to gently remind the public of his musical talents quite soon.

Yesterday (March 15), on his Instagram page, he decided on his film, television, and production work. He shared an update on his next body of work. The screenshot seemed to tease that Glover’s rapper persona, Childish Gambino, has a new album titled Atavista on the way.

The supposed project’s name wasn’t the only thing revealed in the photo. Based on the graphic, the run time for the forthcoming album and the entire tracklist was displayed for followers to comb over.

Glover’s last project, 3.15.20, dropped in 2020. Since then, he’s been relatively quiet on the music front, leaving fans to believe he would retire. However, Glover has put that rumor to bed. Continue below to view the working cover artwork and tracklist. As of today (March 16), the official release date is unknown.

Childish Gambino Teases New Album, But It’s Not What You Expect

Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, just teased a new album on his Instagram accounts… well, a “new” album. Moreover, he posted a new tracklist of 11 songs and 55 minutes on his IG Story: an album titled ATAVISTA. Not only that, but the multi-hyphenate also updated his IG profile pics for @donaldglover and @childishgambino, the latter of which he tagged in the aforementioned Story post from the former). However, a closer look at the tracklist reveals titles like “Algorhythm,” “Time,” “Little Foot Big Foot,” and “Why Go To The Party,” titles and refrains which Gambino fans should be familiar with.

Furthermore, that’s because this seems to be an updated, or in other words properly titled and “artworked,” version of Childish Gambino’s 2020 album 3.15.20, which released exactly four years ago today (Friday, March 15) on his website before being removed after 12 hours and appearing on streaming services a week later. The original version of the project came out with a white square as its cover art and with most of the track titles, excluding “Time” and “Algorhythm,” corresponding to the minute and second on which they started on a full album playback. But there is one track that seems to not be on this new version. That would be “32.22,” the most industrial and aggressive cut on the LP.

Childish Gambino’s Cryptic New Instagram Teases

Still, some tracks like “Human Sacrifice” have actually surfaced online, whether through teases or otherwise, as different or more complete versions of their equivalents on 3.15.20. The former stand-up comedian who might make a comeback in that regard soon could just be trolling here. Or Childish Gambino could be legitimately pointing to a re-released or revamped version of his 2020 record in some way, or an entirely new tracklisting with some overlap from his last album. That last option doesn’t seem likely, but considering that Donald Glover’s last full-length effort came out right when the world entered a years-long pandemic, we wouldn’t be mad at listening to it with a different perspective.

With all this in mind, what do you think is really going on with ATAVISTA… whatever that is? Is the 2093 collaborator trying to fool fans with some misdirection here or is it really just 3.15.20 again? Is that what he wants us to believe? Either way, drop your thoughts down in the comments below before we all get too deep in our conspiracy bag.
