Shyne Criticized For Not Paying Off Settlement To 1999 Shooting Victim

Shyne’s career was permanently disrupted in 1999. The rapper and heir apparent to Biggie was arrested and sentenced to a decade in prison for shooting a woman named Natania Reuben. Shyne has continued to release music, but his legacy is defined by this incident. Calling it a complicated legacy, however, is an understatement. Reuben claims that Shyne did not actually shoot her, but won a settlement against the rapper for his involvement in the incident. A settlement that he’s apparently yet to pay.

Natania Reuben blasted Shyne during an interview on The Art of Dialogue. She not only called the rapper names, but declared that he still owed her money. “Shyne did not shoot me because he didn’t, but Shyne is a con artist,” she claimed. “Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, we know Shyne was innocent.’ No, you don’t know… Because he’s far from innocent.” The concept that Shyne is “innocent” is something the rapper has been quick to put forth after his release. He told Chanel 5 Belize that he took the fall for artists who were more powerful than him. Reuben dismissed this narrative as being the rapper’s attempt at political power in his native country.

Shyne Has Maintained His Innocence In The Shooting

“He’s going to jockey off of me,” the shooting victim asserted. “Saying Shyne didn’t shoot me to try to leverage himself to get that prime minister seat. You ain’t nothing but a penny Annie Shyer, a shady car salesman, a dressed-up fraud, a liar.” Worse, still, according to Reuben, the rapper has yet to make good on his financial responsibilities. The victim claimed that the rapper is driving a Maybach around Belize, yet has not paid her what she is owed. “You still owe me money,” Reuben added. “In the settlement, Shyne was responsible… He didn’t have the money to pay [then].”

Natania Reuben was paid $1.8M by Diddy, however, after the incident. It was a sizable amount, but it also prompted decades of alleged harassment against Reuben at the mogul’s behest. The victim claimed that Diddy flattened the tires on her vehicle on several occasions. “Not only did he pew pew me in the face,” she stated. “He also set off a course of harassment against me for the past 24 years.” Diddy has repeatedly denied these claims.

Megan Thee Stallion Has Fellow H-Town Hottie Beyoncé To Thank For Her New Tequila Brand

Viewers of the 2024 BET Awards are still intoxicated by last night’s (June 30) ceremony. From Usher’s hotly debate Lifetime Achievement Award tribute to the flurry of individual performances, watchers have found a way to extend the televised celebration. One of the night’s entertainers, Megan Thee Stallion’s latest business venture, has something to keep the party going.

On May 19, the “Down Stairs DJ” rapper teased that she was gearing up to launch a tequila brand. Today (July 1) during her appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Megan revealed that she has fellow Houston hottie Beyoncé to thank for the business’ formation.

When host Shannon Sharpe asked Megan about her next chapter as an independent artist, she revealed that it has leveled her up in all ways with the guidance of Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

“When I was in the situation with [1501] and I wanted to get out of it, they told me you need to do this on your own,” she said. “Like, ‘You already know what it is. You already have all the tools. All the legal sh*t you are going through, I know you are learning something. So you should figure out how to get out here and be your own boss.’”

Megan then opened up about the suggestion Beyoncé made. “Beyoncé is actually the person that inspired me to get my own tequila,” she said. “Because I used to be the cognac queen. I still am the cognac queen. But as much as I used to enjoy cognac, and I’ve promoted a lot of people’s liquor brands, she was like, ‘the next time I see you, you better have your own. You need to have your own alcohol.’”

Lil Mama Calls Nicki Minaj A Musical Prostitute After BET Awards Win

Lil Mama is no stranger to controversy. The rapper infamously crashed a performance by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, and her career never recovered. This did not stop her, however, from giving her thoughts on Nicki Minaj. The Young Money superstar won Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards, and instead of congratulating her, Lil Mama decided to tear down her entire career. Lil Mama not only criticized Minaj for her sexualized persona, but claimed that she’s had a negative impact on the genre.

The rant came about via social media on July 1. Lil Mama decided to get into it with Minaj’s infamous fan base, and she did not hold back. She labeled Minaj a “musical prostitute” and proceeded to get meaner from there. “What major musical prostitutes from the last do you remember from the last 15 years,” she wrote. “Who do you think they watched corporate give a platform and flowers for sitting out. Be forreal.” Lil Mama then pointed to Minaj’s influence on the current wave of female rappers. Not in a positive light, either. “They are laughing at us, and the award was a ‘thanks to you, now we have 7, 8, 9 of ’em.’”

Lil Mama Previously Took Credit For Nicki Minaj’s Style

Several users came to Nicki Minaj’s defense. Some claimed that Lil Mama would have been on the BET stage if she were invited. She responded to this by drawing a line in the sand between her and Minaj. “Are you saying that I would have been performing be selling p**sy too or just performing,” she asked. The “Lil Gloss” rapper then tried to tweak her message to assume a more positive perspective. “It’s all love,” she wrote. “God is the greatest and these women are gonna wake up and realize that they are worth more than any price tag.”

This is not the first time Lil Mama has had critiques for Nicki Minaj. Ironically, the first time she did was to accuse Minaj of copying her style. “My cut is blunt and futuristic and Nicki Minaj started wearing that bob on her head after she came to my show,” the rapper told MTV in 2011. “At the end of the day I know what I do. And I know what I possess and I know who I am. I’m a trendsetter.” Things have obviously changed over the last decade, and now Lil Mama sees herself as an antidote to, rather than an inspiration for, the biggest female rapper of all time.

Wack 100 Claims Drake Is Still Safe In California Despite Kendrick Battle

Drake has been living in a “Not Like Us” world. The rapper has been drowned up by Kendrick Lamar’s number one diss record. Especially in California. Lamar’s “Pop Out” show solidified him as the king of the West Coast, and even alluded to Drake’s “California love” running out on the aforementioned song. “You think the Bay gon’ let you disrespect ‘Pac, n**ga” he spit. “That Oakland show might be your last stop, n**ga.” According to Wack 100, however, the truth is less severe.

The music executive recently went on DJ Akademiks’ live stream to discuss Drake’s California status. He told Ak that there’s a man named Wacko in Compton called for a ceasefire during the rap beef. “[He’s] a very influential dude,” Wack 100 claimed. “Impeccable track record. He’s the one that called the dog, to where [there was] no more diss records.” The executive also made note of the fact that Wacko was in the now iconic photo that Lamar took onstage during the “Pop Out” show. Wack 100 went on to explain that Wacko’s reputation allowed him to exert control over Lamar’s camp, and ensure that things go too far in the Drake conflict.

Wack 100 Says L.A. Veterans Ensured Drake’s Safety

Wack 100 then clarified what was on Ak’s and everybody’s mind. Yes, apparently Drake is fine to move around on the West Coast. “If they respect Wacko enough to communicate with him, and Kendrick and them respect Wacko,” the executive noted. “Of course Drake can come to California and L.A. and still move around. Ain’t nobody looking to do anything to Drake.” It’s worth noting that Wack 100 has been pro-Drake, and anti-Kendrick Lamar, in the past. The executive claimed that Drake was beating Lamar after the Compton emcee dropped “Euphoria.” Wack 100 felt that Lamar’s diss lacked energy, and was repetitive given what Pusha T had said about Drake in years prior.

That being said, Wack 100 changed his tune. Lamar’s subsequent releases, coupled with the “Pop Out,” made him a believer. Wack also pointed to Lamar’s co-signs as a big reason as to why Drake’s own diss, “Family Matters,” has aged poorly. “A huge L for Drake,” he admitted. The worst part about that was YG. [Drake] name-drops him. Drake can never perform that song and mention YG’s name.” Drizzy may be spiraling, but at least he’s safe.

In the immortal words of Erykah Badu, artists are sensitive about their sh*t. But, time and time again, the public has learned there are also easily irritated but others’ works.

Just when music fans thought the tumultuous trend of beef soundtracked by song (Kendrick Lamar versus Drake, Megan Thee Stallion versus Nicki Minaj, Latto versus Ice Spice, Chris Brown versus Quavo) was over, PartyNextDoor seems to be throwing his hat in the ring. Yesterday (June 30), all eyes were on the 2024 BET Awards. But the “For Certain” singer was focused on airing out fellow musicians Chris Brown, Bryson Tiller, and Jeremih. So, why did PartyNextDoor send shots their way?

Continue below for more details.

Why Did PartyNextDoor Diss Chris Brown, Bryson Tiller, And Jeremih?

On June 30, PartyNextDoor supposedly pulled a tweet-and-delete. In a screenshot captured by users online, PartyNextDoor dissed Chris Brown, Bryson Tiller, and Jeremih after learning that his ex-girlfriend, Desma Triplett (Tripp), previously known as Desma Dooney, was featured in the trio’s latest video for single, “Wait On It.”

“I’m finna make these n****s cry,” he wrote. “Bryson, Chris, and Jeremih… enjoy the nights of your life.”

PartyNextDoor then penned a message to his former love: “Doing videos at 34, that b*tch broke.” Users online slammed his attempt to age shame Desma, considering she made appearances in other visuals, including Cardi B’s “Up” (according to Capital Xtra).

Although Bryson Tiller hasn’t issued a response to PartyNextDoor’s post, Chris Brown and Jeremih has. View their clapbacks below courtesy of The Shade Room.

Eminem Is Reincarnated As A Demon Baby (?) In His Latest ‘The Death Of Slim Shady’ Teaser Clip

The obituary Eminem placed in the Detroit Free Press newspaper to promoted his upcoming might have been extreme, but that’s his norm. The “Houdini” rapper’s latest promotional clip is even more shocking.

Today (July 1), Eminem took to his official X (formerly Twitter) page to announce the official release date for The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). Instead of a simple reveal, Eminem shared a suspense-filled teaser visual to break the news.

“OH SH*T!!! THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRÂCE) ☠ 7/12,” he wrote.

Although the caption of the post delivered the calendar goodies, frankly that isn’t the most exciting part of the upload. In line with Eminem’s latest string of music video and teasers influenced by movies (Batman and Friday The 13th), this clip is an eerily mashup of The Omen and Seed Of Chucky.

As the video opens, the audience is witness to the gift of life (the complete opposite theme of the forthcoming project). However, there’s a catch. After the doctor frantically attempts to revive the unresponsive newborn, his efforts pay off. Instead of a bouncing bundle of joy, a demon baby terrorizes the hospital room. With Slim Shady slated to be killed off, is Eminem seemingly reincarnated in the worst way.

Eminem Announces Release Date For “The Death Of Slim Shady”

Eminem is really putting effort into his current album cycle. The rapper has taken extra care to build up the hype for The Death of Slim Shady. He’s dropped teasers, collaborations with magician David Blaine, and a high concept music video for the single “Houdini.” The question on everybody’s mind, though, was when the album would drop. When would the Death of Slim Shady finally be revealed to the world? Well, Eminem gave fans an answer in predictably dramatic fashion.

The rapper released what appears to be the last of the album teasers on July 1. The video sees a grim scene at a hospital, in which a woman gives birth to an unresponsive baby. The doctors eventually get the baby breathing, but when it wakes up, it has demonic, black eyes. The mother asks what happened, and before anybody can answer, the baby flashes a split tongue and grows devil horns. The entire staff screams “holy sh*t” before running out of the delivery room. Then, the moment fans have been waiting for: a release date. The Death of Slim Shady will come out on July 12.

Eminem Went Full Demonic In His Latest Teaser

It’s a surprisingly quick turnaround, given how slowly Eminem has been releasing details. The rapper has, however, experimented with different rollouts in the past. Relapse had a lengthy promo cycle since it was supposed to be Eminem’s comeback. Recovery was billed as a correction the mixed reviews of Relapse, and Kamikaze was dropped out of nowhere. The Death of Slim Shady is obviously aiming to be a grand sendoff for Eminem’s alter ago, so it makes sense that he would want to make sure all eyes were on him.

Em hasn’t spoken in depth about The Death of Slim Shady, beyond his promos. He did, however, shed some light on his recording process during a January appearance on Shade 45. “I’m working on a little something,” he told Whoo Kid. Eminem also hinted future collaborations with 50 Cent, who appeared in the first promo for The Death of Slim Shady. “I told him whatever the f*ck he needs from me, I’m here,” the rapper explained. “That sh*t’d be crazy, though… 50’s on a roll right now. He’s been on a roll since the tour.” Hopefully we get to hear these two Aftermath stars on wax again.

Rick Ross Drags His Baby Mama For Flirting With Drake On Instagram

Rick Ross has not let his foot off the gas. He has continued to diss Drake on social media and on record, despite the larger beef seemingly being over. It’s gone on for so long, in fact, that Ross’ baby mama, Tia Kemp, has hopped in the ring. Kemp dropped a diss track against Ross over the instrumental to his own song, “Hustlin.” She also clowned the rapper when he was seemingly attacked for playing “Not Like Us” at a show in Canada. It was Tia Kemp’s Instagram comment on July 1, however, that really set Ross off.

Drake posted a photo on IG, and Kemp wasted no time lavishing praise on the rapper. She posted two starry-eyed emojis in the comment section. Drake, never one to miss a passive aggressive opportunity, responded to Kemp by calling her “my goat.” It was this exchange that prompted Rick Ross to respond to both parties with a ruthless dig. He tagged Drake and wrote back: “pedo vs. granny.” Nothing clever, just a blunt insult for Drake and Tia Kemp. This is not the first time Ross and Kemp have had squabbles via social media. In June, the two got into a heated exchange regarding child support payments.

Rick Ross Has Beefed With Drake And Kemp In 2024

Ross celebrated Father’s Day by claiming that he no longer had to pay child support for the son he has with Kemp. Kemp did not waste any time clapping back at the rapper and threatening him with additional legal action. “You stupid, silly muthaf*cka,” she wrote. “I don’t give a f*ck about your support payments. And if I want some more, I’ll take my a*s over to family court and get some while he is going to college.” Kemp then went on to bash Rozay’s physical appearance. She also made reference to the rumor that he’s taking Ozempic for weight loss. “You ain’t worthy for me sitting in the system and going back and forth to court to drag your big, fat, funky Ozempic-taking a*s down.”

Coincidently, Drake also made reference to Rick Ross’ alleged Ozempic use. He claimed that Ross’ obsession with Drake could be a potential side effect of the drug on “Family Matters.” “What the f*ck I heard Rick drop, n**ga,” he rapped. Talkin’ somethin’ ’bout a nose job, n**ga. Ozempic got a side effect of jealousy and doctor never told y’all n**gas.” It’s safe to assume that Ross does not have plans to make up with either Drake or Kemp in the near future.

Hit-Boy Praises Jay-Z For Getting Him Out Of A Bad Publishing Deal

Hit-Boy has proven himself to be one of the most versatile producers in the game. He’s worked with a laundry list of legends, and scored major crossover hits. If it wasn’t for Jay-Z, though, Hit-Boy would have been significantly less successful. Not from a charts perspective, but a monetary one. The producer recently appeared on an episode of The Shop, and he detailed the ways in which the Roc Nation founder saved his career.

Hit-Boy, like most artists starting out, failed to recognize the poor quality of his first contract. He was merely happy to be signed. The more he learned, however, the more clear it became that he was in a bad publishing situation. “I’m actually still in my publishing situation,” he told the hosts. “I signed when I was 19 years old and I’m 37, so I’ve been in the deal a long time with Universal Publishing. Hit-Boy described the terms of the contract as “ancient.” The worst part was that the producer did not have a clear end date for his contract. He could have easily been held to these initial terms for the rest of his life.

Roc Nation Renegotiated Hit-Boy’s Original Contract

Then Roc Nation stepped in. Hit-Boy credited Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez with helping to straighten out his publishing. “[They] really got me to a place I’m in now, where I have an end date,” he admitted. “But before, my whole career I was working without having a[n] actual end date to— the way we really get our money is through publishing.” These changes appear to be recent, based on the sense of relief Hit-Boy displayed during the interview.

“That’s going to be, like, life changing for me,” the producer explained. “Just to even have freedom as a grown man.” He also noted that his contract kept him from securing huge advances, the way that some of his producing peers have. “I haven’t been able to go do other deals or go get advances in different places like my counterparts have,” he lamented. “I eat very well, but I know what it’s really supposed to be.” Fortunately, Hit-Boy appears to be on the right track to achieving what it’s supposed to be.
