Birdman Thinks CEOs Should Be Saluted During Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary

We hope you aren’t growing tired of hearing about Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary because Birdman is weighing in. We’ve continued to celebrate the culture in all forms regardless of the year, but 2023 is extra special. This year marks five decades of Rap, and artists from all generations are sharing their thoughts on Hip Hop’s history. Today (February 28), Birdman helped close out Black History Month by dropping off a few thoughts on Instagram.

The Louisiana icon isn’t one who spends much time on social media. Unlike his peers, appearances online are scarce, so when he does surface, fans immediately pay attention. At the Grammy Awards, the Hip Hop tribute was filled with artists who have contributed significantly to the culture. However, Birdman believes that this yearlong celebration also needs to include movers and shakers.

What About The CEOs?

Undoubtedly, it takes more than a talent to create a star. Labelheads, managers, A&Rs, publicists, assistants, producers, videographers, photographers, and more have aided in Hip Hop becoming the global influence that it is today. “Im confused about 50yrs of hip hop where they salute legendary artists which is well respeked,” Birdman wrote. “Also I think CEOs who kept these artists alive to be great showed them how to keep hip hop alive should be saluted in a major way.”

“I remember wen they said hip hop was dead and we Kept it alive,” he continued. “YMCMB 20plus summers respek our hussle CEO s kept hip hop alive frfr @cashmoneyofficial #RICHGANG #STUNNAMAN🐍💚🐊🦅🐐.” It looks like Birdman hopes the public will also recognize the power players behind the scenes who turn everyday talents into superstars. Young Money and Cash Money were the voice of an era. They carved out the careers of Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more.

Lil Wayne Is No. 1, According To Him

Birdman Says He Has Plans To Change His Birthname For 2023

Birdman goes by many names — Baby, Stunna, and Beatrice, to name a few — but it looks like he will be getting another one soon. The difference this time: He’ll be altering his birth name.

Birdman, whose real name is Bryan Christopher Williams, recently shared with the world that he has plans to restore his birth name from Williams to Brooks. The rapper and Cash Money record executive shared a video on social media explaining the decision.

“2023, I’m changing my name,” Birdman said in the video. “I was born Bryan Brooks. My momma died, and my daddy pulled me out [of] the boys’ home, and I became a Willams. And I love my daddy with every piece of my soul. But [in] 2023, I want to die, Bryan Brooks. Not saying I’m about to die. I’m just saying I’ma change my name to Brian Brooks. In February 2023, I won’t be Williams no more. I’ll be Bryan Brooks.”

The rapper isn’t the only one who has plans to change their name. Singer and TV personality Ray J said he would be changing his to Tron, according to XXL.

“My real name is Willie. Willie Ray Norwood Jr. I’m a junior, so Ray Jr.,” he said during a recent appearance on The Talk. “But my dad has owned Willie. That’s his name. That’s my dad’s name. He’s Willie. So, I’m Ray J, but I’m changing that too.”

“I’m going with a new name at the top of the year,” he continued. “Ray J, he’s lived, you know what I mean. It’s time to evolve,” he said. “My new name will be Tron.”

NBA YoungBoy & Rich Gang Reunite For New Song, “Military”

NBA YoungBoy has had a relentless year. Dropping seven full-length projects throughout the course of 2022, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

He returns today for another official link-up with Birdman’s Rich Gang on “Military.” Although the video was released on YoungBoy’s YouTube page in October, the song is now available on streaming services.

Featuring D-Rok on the braggadocios hook, the new track is another hard-hitting banger from the “Make No Sense” rapper.

The two verses from the Baton Rouge native continue his streak as one of the hottest rappers in the game. Through his melodic flows, he’s able to reflect sentimentally on his come-up and simultaneously flex the perks of his lifestyle.

He does so all while sticking to the army-inspired theme of the track, dropping creative references to the title throughout. “Did time, and fished for poles like the military / Whenever the price droppin’ low, gotta catch it / It’s hectic, it’s reckless, it’s bad in my section / That’s a new .223 with that drum on the bottom, I bought it in Texas / Havin’ ’em sticks like I come from the army,” he raps in the first verse.

Birdman allegedly wanted to sign the 23-year-old to Rich Gang in 2018. Although it was never made official, the “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” rapper has consistently praised him for being “the next biggest superstar in the world.”

Last year, the duo teamed up to drop a 13-track joint mixtape, From The Bayou.

Quotable Lyrics:

Mama wrote his goals inside the obituary
Broke, came home tryna get some money
Still totin’ straps like the military
None of them don’t like YoungBoy
So I guess that’s why they despise me
F*ck all the rules, I’m onto you, fool
4MATIC Maybach, I call it a Minibach
Hustle, my daughter gon’ need her some Similac
What I feel? I don’t care how it turn out
I’m not worried ’bout a thing, we got plenty gats

B.G. Denied Compassionate Release From Prison For The Third Time

Fans were excited last week when Cash Money CEO Birdman gave an update on his artist, B.G.’s prison sentence. According to Louisiana exec, the “Bling Bling” rapper was slated to be released early from his 14 year bid after being arrested in 2012 on a gun charge, as well as witness tampering and intimidation.

Birdman shared a photo of the 42-year old rapper behind bars with the caption “Be home in minute @new_bghollyhood.” Unfortunately for B.G., a U.S. District Judge opted not to let the New Orleans native receive a reduction on his sentence. In a recent court filing, entitled “The Court Misconstrued Defendant’s Motion”, another federal prisoner pleaded with the courts on B.G.’s behalf, asking them to reconsider him for a compassionate release and for the 2021 denial not to be held against him.

Despite the thorough plea, U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan denied the motion, saying that B.G. “has offered no new evidence that would affect the Court’s prior decision.” The denial comes less than two months after Birdman wrote a letter to the courts on the incarcerated rapper’s behalf. “He is not only a generational artist, but he’s got a platform and the chance to share his experience to better today’s young men who need to hear what he’s got to say,” he wrote. “When he is released, I know he will give back and use what he’s gone through to help as many people as possible.”

Last year, the “I Need A Hot Girl” rapper also penned a letter to the courts on his own behalf, claiming that “murder and mayhem” surrounded him in federal prison, adding that his health issues put him at higher risk for coronavirus, and that his previous attorney’s “incompetence” was the reason his last motion for release failed.

B.G. is currently scheduled to be released from prison in 2024.

Quavo And Takeoff Team Up With Birdman For Their Latest Single, ‘Big Stunna’

Amid rumors of a split, all of the members of Migos are dropping music tonight, whether it be together, or with a bandmate, in some way, shape or form. Tonight, Offset has dropped a new single called “Code,” while Quavo and Takeoff were featured on a song called “Party All The Time” from DJ Khaled’s new album, God Did. Earlier today, Quavo and Takeoff caught fans by surprise when they announced they would drop another single tonight called “Big Stunna.”

On “Big Stunna,” Quavo and Takeoff maintain their momentum as a duo, driving fast cars and rocking expensive jewelry. Though neither of the Migos directly address the rumored split, Quavo says, “I can’t hang / Ain’t no snakes / In none of my campaign,” which might just be a subtle reference. Birdman, the number one stunna himself, lists several famous duos, including, “Bird and Wayne, Stef and Klay, Take and Quay,” the latter referring to Migos members. This may imply that Birdman considers the Migos more iconic as a duo, in a similar vein to the other aforementioned pairs.

The song’s accompanying video sees the rappers drag racing and doing donuts in luxury vehicles.

Talk about stunting!
