Quavo has come through with a brand-new album called Rocket Power. Following the death of Takeoff, the former Migo decided to embark on a new creative endeavor. Overall, it has been a heartbreaking album for him to make. The artist is still processing his grief from the incident, and that trauma can be found on the album. Fans knew that this would be a difficult listen, simply because of the emotions at play here. However, upon listening to the project, it is clear that Quavo did a great job of honoring Takeoff and his enduring legacy.
There are some great tracks throughout this new album. As you may have noticed, Quavo handles most of these songs on his own. However, there are some key features here and those artists definitely leave their mark. Among them is none other than Young Thug, who shows up on the song “Focused.” While he may be incarcerated, he is still making appearances on people’s songs and albums. With “Focused,” we get another great performance from the artist.
This song has some chilled production that sets a nice tone. Quavo’s auto-tuned signing here is quite pleasant, and there is no doubt fans will enjoy that auditory aesthetic. As for Thugger, he fits the tone perfectly thanks to his crooning throughout. These two fit together nicely on the track, and overall, it’s a nice change of pace on the project.

It’s a big release week for hip-hop albums and singles, and we’re here to ease you through that process with our weekly Fire Emoji playlist update. Whether it was long-awaited projects finally seeing the light of day or surprise drops, there’s a lot to love on this New Music Friday. First off is arguably the largest release this week: Quavo’s new album Rocket Power, dedicated to the late Takeoff’s memory. Unc and Phew reunite on “Patty Cake,” and Quavo started things off with fireworks on the opening track “Fueled Up.” Fans are raving about the tracklist online, picking up new tributes and homages to Take along the way.
Moreover, our Fire Emoji playlist also sums up a lot of the biggest singles this week. Rocket Power collaborator Future also dropped this week, and the Young Scooter collab “Hard To Handle” sees him in top form. Furthermore, Lil Tecca teamed up with Kodak Black for another great collab this week, “HVN ON EARTH,” which is a bit moodier but nonetheless engaging. On the other hand, Lil Durk switches up his vocal delivery a little bit on his new track “F**k U Thought,” bringing down the bombast a bit but still coming through with hard-hitting bars.
As far as anthems you’ll hear on a night out that dropped this week, Mike WiLL Made-It and Lil Uzi Vert linked up and have you covered with “Blood Moon.” On the other hand, Polo G began the rollout for his next album Hood Poet with the emotive and heartfelt “Barely Holdin’ On.” As such, there’s a lot of variety to sink your teeth into this week. After all, you can’t always be in party mode, and fortunately this week doesn’t restrict you to one zone.
Meanwhile, Draft Day, The Alchemist, and Lil Yachty came together for the surprising but excellent “Draft Day” this week. Finally, EST Gee’s new album EL TORO 2 holds no shortage of gritty and punch-packing tracks, most notably “FREE DOGGY” featuring 42 Dugg. Rocket Power is the latest album from Quavo. A quasi-tribute to Takeoff, Rocket Power is Quavo’s first solo album since 2018’s Quavo Huncho and his first release since Migos’ final album, 2021’s Culture III. Rocket Power is a Quavo-heavy album, with just three features. “Patty Cake” features Takeoff, “Turn Yo Clic Up” features Future, and “Focused” features Young Thug.
Quavo Huncho peaked at #2 five years ago but unfortunately for Quavo, it doesn’t appear as though Rocket Power is going to have the same impact on the Billboard charts. According to HDD, the album is projected to sell 27,000-32,000 copies in its first week, which should be good enough for a top-20 debut. However, it likely won’t climb too high in that section of the chart. The top five are pretty set right now. At the time of writing, the top five on the Billboard 200 are UTOPIA, One Day At A Time, Barbie: The Album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and Midnights. All five albums shot up the charts this week, as did the #6 album, Lover.
Rocket Power Pales In Comparison To Other Releases

Quavo is not the only major artist who will be debuting on the Billboard 200 next week. Unreal Unearth, the latest album from Irish folk singer Hozier also dropped this week. Per HDD, the first-week projections on that project are 45,000-55,000, which should see Unreal Unearth debut in the top ten. The album includes one feature, with American rocker Brandi Carlile appearing on “Damage Gets Done”.
The release of Rocket Power also came with the release of a music video for the single “Hold Me”. While a solo single, it serves as one of the album’s biggest goodbyes to Takeoff. Shot in Paris, the video features a sea of people wearing Takeoff t-shirts and features lyrics specifically about Quavo’s mourning for his lost nephew.
Quavo recently took to social media, sharing a preview of a new music video with followers. The touching video is for the song “Hold Me,” from his latest release Rocket Power. The performer is surrounded by friends and family wearing Takeoff t-shirts in the teaser, sending off memorial lanterns in honor of the late artist. Quavo raps about leaning on loved ones amid hard times in the emotional track, reflecting on his nephew’s passing.
Quavo dropped Rocket Power earlier this week, his second full-length solo album. It acts as a tribute to Takeoff, even boasting posthumous features from the artist on “Patty Cake” and “Back Where It Begins.” Quavo chronicles his grieving process on the LP, with lyrics about moving forward and celebrating Takeoff’s legacy. “Lost my nephew to gunplay and smoke sh*t / Lost my dawgs to some petty a** ho sh*t / I guess you look at me ’cause I’m the oldest We was the closеst (On God),” he rhymes on “Hold Me.”
The new teaser has supporters eagerly-awaiting the music video, sounding off in the comments section. Rocket Power has already managed to become a fan-favorite, also boasting features from Future, Young Thug, and more. It follows his first solo effort, 2018’s Quavo Huncho. “This album is for the Rocket, our true fans, and also this is my therapy,” Quavo explained earlier this summer. “This album is a true reflection of how I feel right now.”
Takeoff was tragically shot in 2020, leading to his untimely death at the age of 28. Since his passing, both of his former Migos group mates have paid tribute to the late artist. Quavo and Offset gave a touching performance in his honor at the 2023 BET Awards, which gained the respect of fans and peers alike. Following the tragedy, Quavo told his late nephew, “You will continue to send your blessings down from Heaven and I will continue to keep your name alive as long as I live.”
Quavo dropped off his brand-new project Rocket Power on Friday. Overall, this is a dope project that pays homage to Takeoff. Takeoff passed away almost one year ago, and it has been a very difficult time for everyone involved. Of course, his Migos counterparts have been trying to honor him in the best way possible. This has subsequently led to some bars that pay tribute to him and his spirit. Rocket Power feels like the perfect send-off for the artist, and it just so happens that he is featured on a couple of tracks.
One of those tracks is “Patty Cake.” Below, you can listen to the track which clocks in at just above two minutes. As you will hear, the song is mostly carried by Takeoff. Considering this is a posthumous track, you can tell that Quavo wanted his family member to take the reins here. The artist understands that fans want to hear Takeoff rap. He was a pioneer when it came to flow, and fans are still mesmerized by his voice. Consequently, the decision to make Takeoff the focal point here was a smart one.
That is not to say Quavo doesn’t do his thing here. He absolutely does. As you would expect from a track between these two, the chemistry is on point. Moreover, the production does a lot to enhance both of their voices. If you are a fan of both of these artists, then this is going to be a must-listen. Quavo’s Rocket Power is a tribute to his deceased nephew, fellow rapper, and Migos member Takeoff. Just prior to Takeoff’s murder, the duo released their joint album Only Built For Infinity Links in October 2022. Rocket Power was long anticipated, named in tribute to Takeoff’s “Rocket” nickname. Yet, this project isn’t the only way Quavo has paid homage to his late relative.
He performed “Without You,” a tribute song for Takeoff, at the 2023 GRAMMYs. Later, Quavo and Offset also performed a tribute to Takeoff at the 2023 BET Awards. Further, Rocket Power also has posthumous appearances by the late rapper. Many of the songs on the album find Quavo telling stories of his past with Takeoff and reflecting on his current mental state. He showcases the variety in his flows and production choices throughout. The authenticity of his bars referencing Takeoff are the central focus, but he still finds time to have a little fun, too.
Quavo Brings Emotion To The Album
Rocket Power finds Quavo delving into heartfelt verses about Takeoff. The opener, “Fueled Up,” continues the theme and has a soundbite from Takeoff that plays three times. This could be interpreted as a reference to the three members of Migos. Tracks like “Mama Told Me” have Quavo recalling advice from his mother, and “Mama!” was one of Takeoff’s most recognizable adlibs. The song is an energetic contrast to another equally sentimental song on the album, “Hold Me.” This one also finds Quavo using the emotional sample to echo his emotions as he name-drops several people over a minimal piano-based track. “Not Done Yet” and “Rocket Power” appear back to back on the tracklist and bring the project to a fitting close. The former is a motivational song over a victorious melody as Quavo promises to continue his achievements.
Quavo Brings Energy To The Album
Outside of the emotional moments, Quavo also mixes things up on Rocket Power. The most surprising track is “Galaxy,” which sounds like the dance-inspired music from Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind. Producer Alex Lusting has credits all over that album and worked on Quavo’s song, too.
On “Disciples” and “11.11,” Quavo croons and raps over the eerie trap instrumentals he has built his career around. His vocal inflections and switch-ups take full advantage of the autotune as the drums keep the bounce of the tracks at a high level. Meanwhile, “Focused,” which features Young Thug, is rhythmic as a space-like melody pairs well with Quavo’s echoed vocals. The hook-centric “Wall to Wall” is the type of track listeners expect from Quavo. Yet, he weaves some light-hearted homage to Takeoff into this one.
Quavo Gifted Fans With Two Verses From Takeoff
Quavo has two features on Rocket Power from Takeoff himself. The first one is on “Patty Cake,” where the duo displays the same chemistry they had on their collaboration album. Over blaring trumpets, the duo energetically flows with ease. While they do not trade bars, Takeoff has a small comedic contribution during Quavo’s verse. With production coming from DJ Durel, this one is a collaboration celebrated by all their longtime supporters.
Meanwhile, “Back Where It Begins” opts for a more low-tempo approach. Future, who also features on the track, brings his signature auto-tuned singing to a fittingly relaxing melody over trap drums. Takeoff’s verse has a bar that excellently summarizes the mindset of camaraderie he’s had his whole career: “I feel like if I win, then we all win.”
Quavo’s Tribute Was Done Well

Quavo used Rocket Power to pay homage to his nephew, and the sentiment was definitely felt. By balancing emotional and sentimental tracks with upbeat ones, he gave listeners various songs for different occasions. Listeners will be reminded of the energy the duo brought to their last album and their storied history as a part of Migos. The vulnerable songs showcase Quavo’s skill as a songwriter and range as an artist.
Minimal features also allowed Quavo to remain the project’s focus most of the time. This album shows the elevation of Quavo’s career and offers listeners a glimpse of where he can go next musically. However, no matter what he does, Takeoff will remain in his heart and mind as he continues to bring pride to the musical legacy they started together.
Quavo’s Rocket Power is finally out, and fans have wasted no time discussing it in social media circles. Given that it’s a tribute album to his late rap partner Takeoff, there’s a lot to digest here and it’s not the easiest listen. Still, it seems like people have an array of opinions on it online, most of them being positive celebrations of not just the late Migo, but of Quavo’s own growth and talent as an artist. Fans already have some of their favorite tracks set, and the reception indicates that it’s quite a balanced and engaging listen regardless of which angle you see it through. “Easily the best album dropped this year in the rap space,” an impassioned fan wrote of Quavo’s latest. “I love migos have for a while so I’m trying to not sound bias but this genuinely is one of the best productions any of them have had as a group or solo artist. You can tell he took his time and spoke his mind. The album is amazing. You feel the heart and energy in it. What is truly sad is that takeoff snaps on a few songs and realize we’re not going to get anymore.

Following a slight delay, Quavo’s solo sophomore album, Rocket Power, has finally dropped. Yes, the project’s formation was due to grimy circumstances. However, the body of work found a silver lining in all of his sorrows as he heals from the tragic death of Quavo’s late nephew and frequent collaborator, Takeoff.
Rocket Power features contributions from the late musician as well as fellow Atlanta rappers Future, Young Thug, and Hunxho. Stockbridge, Georgia native Baby Drill also makes a guest vocal appearance. Regarding production, DJ Durel, Wheezy, Murda Beatz, BNYX, Buddah Bless, and Pooh Beatz are among the long list of credited professionals.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the album, Quavo took to social media to write, “This album is for the Rocket, our true fans, and also, this is my therapy,” he wrote. “This album is a true reflection of how I feel right now. Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m down, sometimes I’m disappointed, sometimes I fall apart, but then I always find my strength again. I know everything might not be alright right now, but the Rocket showed me a way to make it right! Rocket Power keeps me going. Rocket Power gives me fuel. ‘Rocket Power’ will help us all overcome whatever we’re going through.”

Quavo’s new album Rocket Power is available. His next move is to tribute Takeoff in his shoe game. The “Rocket Power” Air Jordan 1 Lows have been revealed.
The recently available sneaker is made of white leather and has a white mesh liner and white rubber outsoles. According to Hypebeast, the sneaker also has a logo on the heel with an infinity symbol and a collection of stars that spell out Rocket Power. The sneaker is expected to release today, Aug. 15, at Good Times Atlanta.
Quavo has had a rough year following the passing of Takeoff. The two were inseparable since childhood, and you can tell that they meant a lot to one another. Overall, death can be extremely difficult to process. Although you think you may be ready to deal with it, you never truly know until it happens to you. As for Quavo, it is clear that his coping mechanism has been music. The artist has been in the studio quite a bit, and a couple of months ago, he revealed that he would be dropping an album in Takeoff’s honor. That album is called Rocket Power.
