J Cole’s “Might Delete Later” Misses No. 1 Debut, Beyonce’s “COWBOY CARTER” Takes Top Spot

With his last six album releases, J Cole has confidently held onto the Billboard 200 album chart’s No. 1 spot. When it came time to drop his Might Delete Later project earlier this month, however, he had some serious competition from Beyonce, whose dive into country is continuing to do numbers even after its first week out. Upon arriving on DSPs, COWBOY CARTER became the best-selling record of 2024 so far, moving upwards of 400K units.

Though it was initially expected to come in at No. 2, it looks like Queen B has nabbed the top spot on the chart again this week, bumping Cole’s work down to second. As HipHopDX notes, the surprise mixtape brought in 115K album equivalent units over the past few days, which is still impressive, even if it ends his over 10-year streak. 2011’s Cole World: The Sideline Story was the first of the MC’s LP’s to go No. 1, and 2021’s The Off-Season marks the last time he achieved the accolade. Besides his solo efforts, the Dreamville compilation tape, Revenge of the Dreamers III became a chart-topper in 2019, making it the label head’s seventh overall.

J Cole Was Heading for Billboard’s No. 1, but Bey Ultimately Beat Him

The loss is likely tough for the father of two, but he and Bey have previously collaborated so we’re hoping there’s no bad blood. In 2011, Cole joined the Houston native to remix “Party,” which he revealed he was initially supposed to be on the original version of. “Just the fact to even be on the song with her and shoot the video with her and just be in her presence. She’s such a hard-working, incredible artist,” he said on the Rise & Grind Morning Show last year.

The men of hip-hop have been feuding non-stop in recent weeks, and though he’s usually a peaceful person, even J Cole found himself in the middle of Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s drama. However, after coming for K-Dot on “7 Minute Drill,” the North Carolina native ultimately left the diss track off his Might Delete Later project, though it still landed on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyonce Becomes First Black Woman To Top The Country Charts Thanks To “Texas Hold ‘Em”

Beyonce is one of the biggest stars in the music world. Overall, one could make the argument that she is the biggest popstar of all time. At this point, she has made a foray into various different genres. All of these efforts have proven to be massively successful, and she is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. At least not anytime soon. For instance, she recently came through with a pair of tracks called “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” Both of these releases are country songs, and it is clear that this will be the direction of Bey’s new album.

Although not everyone is sold on this new venture into country, it appears as though there are plenty of fans who are excited by this. Throughout the past week or so, both songs have topped Spotify and Apple Music charts. According to the new Billboard chart updates, Bey has just hit a massive and historic new milestone. She is now the first black woman to top the country music songs chart. “Texas Hold ‘Em” is the song that did it, as “16 Carriages” found itself in 9th. In fact, “Texas Hold ‘Em” is the second biggest song in the world, slotting in behind Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me.”

Beyonce Hits A New Milestone

The country music establishment has not been extremely receptive to Beyonce’s recent efforts. Some artists have told her to go back to pop, while others have been a bit more coded in their language. On Monday, the legend celebrated his 54th birthday. Now that he is in his mid-50s, it is clear that his priorities have changed. What once used to matter to him doesn’t seem so significant anymore. As for gold songs, you have tracks such as “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Lucifer,” and even “Heart Of The City.” Needless to say, the man is still wildly successful and that will never change. The outlet exclusively reported on Friday (November 3) that the mother of two sold out of offerings like the faux leather trench, Moto gloves, and minidress. All of the designs came from Jenner in tandem with Namilia, who’s based out of Berlin. However, ahead of Khy’s official debut, a creative named Betsy John put the reality starlet on blast for allegedly stealing the brand’s concepts from her.

City Girls Blame Management And Timing For Poor Album Sales

City Girls have been getting a lot of flack as of late. This is due to the fact that their new album RAW has been plagued by some poor album sales. Overall, fans aren’t loving the project like the duo may have expected. In its first week, the album is only expected to sell about 6K units. Although the group is pretty massive online and at festivals, these numbers are anything but a reflection of that. Furthermore, the low sales have led to plenty of jokes online.

On Thursday, the group was at The Breakfast Club where they talked about the new album and a myriad of other topics. JT touched on the album’s poor sales projections, noting they didn’t do enough promotion. “It’s tough times. You get what you put in, in this shit. And I feel like, collectively, we didn’t do what we had to do to promote the album,” JT explained. “But if you don’t go hard with promoting your shit, and putting it in people’s face, it’s like, of course it’s going to miss people.”

Although she initially took responsibility, JT eventually changed course and blamed management for the lack of promotion. She also said timing played a big factor in all of this. “Right now, stunting ain’t cool, because people broke,” she added. “I feel like we have a bad timing thing. I feel like our timing, and our management, is poor. We’ve got poor management, poor timing — like, it’s really never no strategy. We just out here, like, why the fuck are we at The Breakfast Club a week after our thing dropped?”

It is also hard to fathom it happening to an album from five years ago. However, X has a lot of fans, and they continue to run up the numbers. It will be interesting to see what the next big streaming hip-hop album will be. Moreover, fans will certainly be looking to get this album to 15 billion and then subsequently, 20 billion streams.
