Tory Lanez’s Biggest Scandals: Megan, Drake, August Alsina & More

The last two years have seen Tory Lanez embroiled in a very heated scandal. However, his public fallout with Megan Thee Stallion is just one of many controversies that have left a mark on the artist’s career. The singer and rapper is currently incarcerated after being found guilty of discharging an unregistered firearm with gross negligence. He is now awaiting sentencing.

Notwithstanding, Tory Lanez has had public beefs with many Hip Hop stars throughout his career. While he is often credited with resurrecting friendly Hip Hop competition, he has caused a stir numerous times. Although the scandal surrounding the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion is his most popular, there are several more instances of misconduct on Tory Lanez’s resume.

Beef With Drake

Although they are good friends today, Drake and Tory Lanez didn’t always see eye to eye. The Canadian natives were once beefing as far back as 2015. Indeed, Lanez started out as a fan, even challenging Drake to a rap battle in 2010. The initial love would later translate to tensions five years later when Tory began a series of disses against Drake.

Thus began a series of back-and-forth subliminal exchanges between the pair. Between Drake’s cryptic “Summer Sixteen” and Lanez’s “Uber Everywhere” and “Line Up the Flex,” fans believed there was animosity between the two. By early 2017, Drake called out Lanez by his government name, heating up the scandal with the track “Do Not Disturb.” However, a mere two months later, they put their differences aside and laid their beef to rest. They’ve remained friends since.

Inciting A Riot In Texas

In 2016, Tory Lanez was the subject of another scandal when he reportedly incited a riot in Texas. During a packed concert, the rapper was said to have encouraged his fans to get physical with security personnel. He allegedly had a prior run-in with the security before going on stage and was clearly annoyed by the time his performance had begun.

Lanez would eventually mutter the words “B*tch ass security” and told his swarm of fans to trash the place. What occurred after was a full-on brawl, with chairs and bottles flying around the arena. The crowd went wild, with many left injured due to the altercations. Thankfully no lives were lost, but the police were called in, and the show was eventually shut down.

Altercation With Travis Scott

After one of his shows, Tory Lanez stirred up another scandal after almost swapping fists with Travis Scott. While he’s blamed it on the adrenaline from his performance prior, things could have turned bloody. Lanez addressed the almost-fight in his song “Hate to Say.” The two artists were involved in an argument backstage when Lanez asked Scott if he wanted to apologize or exchange blows. Thankfully, the pair settled it, but Lanez’s heated demeanor was displayed as the altercation was recorded.

Assault On August Alsina

Lanez came under fire after he was reported to have allegedly assaulted August Alsina in Chicago last year. Alsina also went on social media, posting photos of his bloody mouth as a result of the attack. The cause of the assault was Alsina’s refusal to shake Tory Lanez’s. The scandal has led to Tory Lanez being investigated by the LA County District Attorney’s Office.

Beef With Joyner Lucas

The beef between Joyner Lucas and Tory Lanez was short-lived. Lanez stated that he was a better rapper than Lucas, which led to a string of diss tracks between them. Lanez’s most memorable of these was his freestyle of “Lucky You,” a track initially by Eminem that featured Lucas. Two days later, Lucas released a remix of Kodak Black’s “Zeze” to respond to Lanez’s diss.

Parting Ways With Interscope Records

Tory Lanez caused another scandal with how he announced his separation from Interscope Records. It’s been over three years since he announced his departure, but many fans still wonder why he left the label. However, he did go on a Twitter rant in 2020, suggesting that he does not have creative control. His response to a fan also led many to believe he was unhappy with his deal.

“I haven’t dropped the music that I REALLY wanted to for the last 4 years,” he tweeted. “I just freestyle’d sh*t and songs that WOULD GET YOU BY ,up untill i said f*ck it ‘i gotta atleast go 60 % or they gone start thinking I’m super trash then boom ‘CHIXTAPE 5’ but this should be fun tho.”

Beef With Dreamville Records

Tory Lanez’s beef with the entirety of Dreamville Records began with Don Q after the latter accused him of stealing his lyrics. JID, a rapper signed to Dreamville, used the beef as an opportunity to air his grievances against Lanez for his previous comments at J. Cole. DreamDoll, whose name was mentioned in the rap disses between Lanez and Don Q, also released a diss at Lanez titled “On Ya Head.”

Watch Machine Gun Kelly And Doe Boy Freestyle Over “Killa Cam” Beat

Yesterday, Machine Gun Kelly dropped the newest video in his freestyle series and there are some familiar names involved. For this cypher, MGK is joined by Atlanta rapper Doe Boy. The pair deliver 4 minutes of bars over the beat to Cam’Ron’s classic hit “Killa Cam.” The video immediately began trending on YouTube and racked up over 400k views in less than 24 hours.

In his freestyle, Machine Gun Kelly doesn’t start any new beef, but he does deliver some mind-bending bars. “Y’all won’t give me my flowers, but y’all hypin’ this?, Ears must be damaged, someone Mike Tyson’d it, The flow’s tight like Ice Spice’s fit, But my ricks loose like my 4X white tee in 2006!” he says during the performance. His freestyle series has made waves in the past for a few different reasons. The previous episode featured an appearance from Cordae and has been viewed over 4.5 million times since it dropped last month. In a follow-up freestyle the “My Ex’s Best Friend” rapper took some shots at Jack Harlow following his claim that he’s the best white rapper since Eminem.

Machine Gun Kelly’s Backyard Cypher

Machine Gun Kelly is no stranger to having beefs. He famously has beef with Eminem which all stems from a decade-old tweet MGK made about Em’s daughter. The beef erupted in 2018 and resulted in some memorable viral diss tracks like “Killshot” and “Rap Devil.” In addition to Jack Harlow and Eminem, MGK has picked fights with the lead singers of The All-American Rejects and Slipknot in the past. His only new song in 2023 so far was the single “PRESSURE.” It dropped in late May and already has more than 5 million Spotify streams.

Doe Boy on the other hand has been very prolific this year. He just dropped his new album BEEZY which serves as a super quick follow-up to a pair of new projects he released last year. This isn’t the first time that Machine Gun Kelly and Doe Boy have crossed over musically. Way back in 2016, MGK featured on Doe Boy’s single “Gang” proving the pair have a long-lasting creative relationship. Let us know what you think of their new cypher in the comments below.

Diddy Praises New Jermaine Dupri Freestyle Despite Rivalry

Earlier this week legendary producer Jermaine Dupri took to his Instagram page to prove to fans he still has it as a rapper. According to HipHopDX, the freestyle was posted on Wednesday and featured the rapper spitting some vintage bars over the wavy beat. Amidst the string of bars he says “I’m having at your shit/ Knowing I’m a short n*gga/ Big check, high-tech, I ain’t gotta force shit/ Cappin’, bring me that ass and watch you lose it, abuse it, and I ain’t gone stop you/ The illest, I kill this.”

Fans flocked to the comments of the post to praise his skills as an MC. Among the comments was someone many fans probably didn’t expect, Diddy. The two producers have long kept up a friendly rivalry between them though it always remained friendly. Last month, Diddy claimed on social media that a long-awaited Verzuz between the two would take place in September in New York. While this hasn’t been officially confirmed that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about it.

Diddy’s Praise For Jermaine’s Bars

The pair’s Verzuz is expected to play out a bit differently than an average one. It’s more about music from the entire catalogs of Bay Boy Records and So So Def respectively. During an Instagram livestream earlier this year Diddy invited Jermaine on and leveled with him. “JD, if you want that smoke, you can get that smoke anytime” Diddy said. A date and location haven’t been formally confirmed by either Verzuz founders Timbaland or Swizz Beats.

Jermain isn’t the only person Diddy has been dishing out praise for recently. In an Instagram video earlier this week Diddy shouted out Rick Ross for his relentless hustle. It’s a nice change of pace in the news for Diddy whose week didn’t get off to a great start. Diddy was trending on Twitter a few days ago but not for the reasons he’d like. Fans were digging into some of his old controversies and bad behavior throughout his decades in the spotlight. What did you think of Jermaine Dupri’s freestyle and who do you think would win in a Verzuz between him and Diddy? Lets us know in the comments below.

Vanilla Ice Faces Lawsuit From Ex Over Child Support

Rapper Vanilla Ice is facing a lawsuit from his ex implying that he’s the father of her 5-year-old child. His longtime girlfriend Kirra Hentz is claiming that he is the father of her daughter Priscilla. She is first asking for a DNA test to prove his paternity, according to HipHopDX. On top of that, she’s seeking a mandate for child support payments from the rapper. Vanilla Ice already has two daughters with his ex-wife Laura Giaritta.

It’s the most recent controversy for Vanilla Ice following repeated allegations that he didn’t write his biggest hit “Ice Ice Baby.” In an interview recently the song’s co-writer Mario “Chocolate” Johnson said Vanilla Ice had done nothing during the song’s writing process. This echoed things that Suge Knight himself had said in the past about the creation of the track.

Just yesterday news broke that rapper Mos Def may have to forfeit money from his upcoming tour for child support. Though Vanilla Ice does have a number of shows coming up there’s no indication that his legal proceedings are heading in a similar direction. There’s also a biopic in the works celebrating the rapper titled To The Extreme. Actor David Franco revealed a few years ago that he was on track to play the 90’s rap star in an upcoming film.

In a different recent interview, Vanilla Ice himself reminisced upon a time when Madonna proposed to him. “She even proposed to me. Things were going so crazy and fast man,” he said. “I was just like, ‘What? I thought the guy was supposed to do that. What do you mean? Wait a minute, this is too fast. I’m just getting started here and I’m way too young for this’” he continued. Tell us what you think about Vanilla Ice’s ongoing beefs and legal proceedings in the comments below.

Fans Are Convinced Cardi B Dissed Ice Spice At Hot 97 Summer Jam But Cardi Thinks They’re Being ‘Messy’

Here we go again. Cardi B has spoken before about how much she dislikes being pitted against “every new female rapper” but that won’t stop fans from looking for signs of friction every chance they get. The latest opportunity came with Cardi’s set at Hot 97 Summer Jam this weekend, where one of Cardi’s background graphics caught fans’ attention and has them thinking that Cardi’s latest target is “Boy’s A Liar” rapper Ice Spice.

During Cardi’s set, she set up her performance of “Tomorrow 2” with a clip from Annie while an illustrated caricature of the red-headed orphan appeared on the screen behind her. Fans seeing this image online decided that this was somehow a reference to Ice Spice because the rapper’s look — which usually consists of bright orange curls styled into an afro — has become so iconic in such a short amount of time. This led to an avalanche of tweets accusing Cardi of spoofing Ice Spice’s look — although, inarguably, Annie did it first.

Of course, it should be noted that the fans driving this particular narrative seemingly all come from a specific fan base (rhymes with “carbs”), while others — including, apparently, the person who created the graphic in the first place, called it out as ridiculous. A video of Cardi defending Ice Spice recently also surfaced as evidence she wouldn’t feel the need to shade the new rap it-girl, even though she recently collaborated with Cardi’s ostensible rival.

Incidentally, Cardi’s verse on “Tomorrow 2” contains a nod to Ice Spice’s breakout hit “Munch,” which Cardi also considered remixing, although she decided later not to put the song out. But Cardi herself went on Instagram Live shortly after her performance to lay the speculation to rest. “Cut the bullsh*t, please,” she said. “Get the mop. Y’all being too messy and y’all being annoying.”

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

King Yella Responds To Lil Durk Diss: “U A B*TCH”

King Yella recently took to Instagram to air his thoughts on Lil Durk’s recent diss. In Lil Durk’s song “Grandson,” he asks, “Why you throwin’ all this rent money?” The song continues, with Durk claiming that someone paid to hang out with fellow rapper Boosie Badazz. King Yella hopped on his Instagram story, revealing that he believes the lines were targeted at him, and stating that Lil Durk’s claims aren’t true.

The Instagram story starts with King Yella sitting in the car playing “Grandson.” He turns the volume down after the lines he claims are about himself. He begins, “Durk, I know you ain’t just try to diss me, gang.” “Boosie is all love,” he clarifies. The rapper then went on to say that he has never paid to hang out with anyone, calling Durk out for throwing shade when he claims to be “pushing peace.” He continues, telling Durk that he’s just mad Boosie gave him a feature. Text over the video reads, “@LILDURK U A BIT**.”

King Yella Calls Out Durk For Claiming To “Push Peace”

“Grandson” comes from Durk’s recently-released album, Almost Healed, and features Kodak Black. The LP came out today (May 26), and features other notable guests like Juice WRLD, Morgan Wallen, and more. The album also features the song, “All My Life” featuring J. Cole, with has received a great deal of praise as of late. Durk revealed the album’s tracklist on Monday.

Lil Durk also recently opened up on a podcast with DJ Akademiks about his grieving process. He detailed how he handles grief, telling the DJ, “Everybody mourns.” Durk went on to share, “When I started getting more into my religion, and just like, talked to my pops while he was locked up, talked to my uncle and them.” He continued, “They’re like ‘Man, we had the money, the fame and the cars, we had the city on lock, and we went to jail and got life. What you’re going through, we’ve been through. When you call, call and get to your pops, call and get to your unc. Let’s talk, let’s have a conversation. But I don’t want to hear no crying. I don’t want to hear no complaining, I don’t want to hear no ‘I can’t do this, I can’t do that.”

All Of J. Cole’s Biggest Public Beefs

J. Cole is not generally considered to be a confrontational figure in hip hop. Compared to many of his contemporaries, he hasn’t necessarily engaged in many feuds. He tends to spread positivity in his music and is highly respected in hip-hop. However, J. Cole still has found himself engulfed in beefs with other MCs throughout his successful career. For the most part, J. Cole has steered away from directly dissing rappers in a song but he has a history of sneakily sending subliminal jabs towards them. Mostly, J. Cole’s beefs have been one-sided as some have taken offense to the subliminal disses and have directly addressed him, even without any real interaction.

This is a deep dive into some of J. Cole’s most notable public feuds in recent years. Many of them are one-sided where certain individuals responded to Cole’s sneak disses but there have been other times where he’s directly called out some of his peers and competitors. Take a look at all of the biggest J. Cole beefs below.

Diddy

J. Cole’s beef with Diddy was the most serious of all of his public feuds. The root cause of the beef is unknown, but their contention escalated to the point where they reportedly physically fought each other in 2013 at an MTV VMA Awards afterparty. The original reports of the fight were denied but J. Cole confirmed the beef on his 2021 song “l e t . g o . m y . h a n d.” He raps, “My last scrap was with Puff Daddy, who would’ve thought it?/ I bought that n***a album in seventh grade and played it so much/You would’ve thought my favorite rapper was Puff/ Back then I ain’t know shit, now I know too much.” Although Cole and Puff immediately laughed off the incident after the reports emerged, the track formally marked the reconciliation between J. Cole and Diddy as Puff appeared on the song’s outro.

Responses to “Everybody Dies”

In 2016, J. Cole released the pair of singles, “Everybody Dies” and “False Prophets,” which led to strong reactions from members of the hip hop community who took offense. Aimed towards mumble rappers, J. Cole raps, “Bunch of words and ain’t sayin’ shit, I hate these rappers / Especially the amateur eight-week rappers / Lil’ whatever – just another short bus rapper.” Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert both felt like the lyrics were aimed at them, but shrugged it off in interviews and on social media.

“False Prophets”

“False Prophets” stirred up just as much controversy as “Everybody Dies.” Almost the entire song could be interpreted as a diss. Although J. Cole did not address anyone directly, many felt like the first verse was aimed towards Kanye West. Cole confirmed the verse applies to Kanye rather than being directly inspired by the Chicago artist. The issues stem from Kanye’s ego-driven rants but more generally, the concept of celebrity worship. Cole admittedly looked up to Kanye as a kid, rapping over many of his beats. Wale felt that the second verse was aimed at him, to which he responded in his song “Groundhog Day.” Since then, Wale and J. Cole have been on good terms, collaborating on “My Boy Freestyle” and “Poke It Out.”

Reactions to “1985”

“1985 (Intro to ‘The Fall Off’),” the outro song from J. Cole’s 2018 album, K.O.D, received similar reactions to “Everybody Dies” and “False Prophets.” In the song, J. Cole speaks directly to an unnamed rapper with advice on how to make it in hip hop. He speaks from the perspective of an older rapper who is teaching an up-and-coming artist the keys to a long and successful career. He asks them questions about their goals and how they want to leave a legacy, warning them about potentially falling off. Similar to “Everybody Dies,” many felt like J. Cole was dissing young mumble rappers.

Though J. Cole said that he was not talking to anyone specifically on the song, rappers Lil Pump and Smokepurpp took offense. Although they had already launched their “F*ck J. Cole” campaign slogans in concerts and on social media, “1985” certainly created further tension. and started dissing J. Cole on social media and at their live shows, sparking a short-lived beef. J. Cole and Lil Pump eventually sat down and ended the beef.

Noname

One of J. Cole’s biggest and most recent public beef was with Noname. At the height of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, Noname criticized hip-hop’s most visible figures for profiting “off blackness while simultaneously being silent when it comes to black death.” J. Cole responded with a song called “Snow on the Bluff” which does not reference Noname directly, but still responds to her comment. In the song, J. Cole tells fans not to look to him for insightful remarks, feeling like he is not doing enough during the protests. He praises Noname for her intelligence and activism, but also felt like she was talking down to him in a self-righteous way. Cole mentions how the tone of Noname’s tweet bothered him, to which many took offense. The song sparked a short-lived beef between J. Cole and Noname

Noname responded two days later with “Song 33,” rapping about how J. Cole could have used the song to address the racism and police brutality that caused the protests. J. Cole and Noname did not officially end their short beef, but they have spoken since.

Lil Durk Claims Labels Tried To Pay Him To Beef With Other Rappers

Lil Durk is currently riding a massive wave of acclaim and anticipation, as he’s fully in album more. Moreover, he released the single “All My Life” with J. Cole this week, and fans loved it. As we wait for his next album Almost Healed, which drops on May 26, he seems ready to take on the world- but he’s the only one who will reap the benefits. On Friday (May 12), the Chicago MC tweeted a startling revelation that, if true, speaks to his character and integrity. Apparently rap beef is quite the lucrative business, and labels tried to convince Smurk with some cash to indulge in it on their orders.

“Labels try to pay me to beef I just can’t fake it I’m different I’m him unpredictable,” he wrote on the social media platform. Given his public commitment to keeping it real and sticking by his crew, Lil Durk is no stranger to beef. While this claim might surprise many, it’s also clear that if he’s going to feud with someone, it’ll be purely by his own making and not for clout. After all, The New York Times reported that rap beef makes the industry a whopping $1.6 billion a year, so of course big labels would circle around it like vultures.

Lil Durk’s Smoke Can’t Be Bought By The Higher-Ups

Screenshot via Twitter @lildurk

Still, labels can’t buy Lil Durk, and whatever beef he engaged in is for his conscience and independent image alone. For example, Soulja Boy recently took some shots at Durkio, starting what is so far a one-sided spat. Also, he recently offered longtime rival 6ix9ine $50 million to get in the ring with him. Whether you agree with his moves or not, it’s always his decision and not a part of his wider musical moves.

Of course, we can’t forget the feud between The Voice and NBA YoungBoy, which almost resulted in a sales battle this week. Even though the 30-year-old pushed his album back (much to YB’s happiness), he arguably had the more hyped release this week. Regardless, that battle will likely continue for a long time, and no label could ever hope to replicate that just for some money. Soulja Boy Goes Off On NBA YoungBoy: “You Don’t Wanna Meet Me N*gga!”

Even with the nearly 10-year age gap between them, Soulja Boy continues to carry on his beef with NBA YoungBoy, who threw out plenty of shots on his Richest Opp mixtape that arrived at midnight on Friday (May 12). Even before unleashing his third project of the year, the Louisana native found himself feuding with the “Pretty Boy Swag” hitmaker after he vented about both YB and Lil Durk during an Instagram Live session. Of course, the latter two lyricists have long-standing issues of their own that also made headlines today, along with more social media slander from Soulja.

Earlier this afternoon, the Chicago-born artist began streaming for his millions of followers, not hesitating to get a few things off his chest. “You can’t wait to meet what? Bot, what the f*ck you said?” Soulja popped off in response to a tweet from YoungBoy saying “It’s gone be nice to meet [him] too.” As he continued to speak, things only got more amped up, eventually including threats aimed at the 23-year-old. “Boy, you don’t want to meet me, n*gga! This shit ain’t sweet. This ain’t no meet-and-greet, n*gga!”

Soulja Boy Isn’t Feeling NBA YoungBoy

“I can’t wait to meet you too, n*gga,” Soulja sarcastically added before slapping his phone out of anger. “Bring your p*ssy ass out the house. You can’t come outside. On God, you on house arrest. F*ck you talking about? Matter fact, you can text me the address. We’ll come to you, n*gga,” the 32-year-old proposes to his op. “We can come to Utah.” Elsewhere, the “Crank That” artist makes comments about putting more dents in YB’s head, among other hateful antics.

We’re still awaiting a response from NBA YoungBoy, though he’s certainly been busy on social media over the past few days. Aside from going back and forth with Soulja Boy, he also took a moment to explain his bars dissing Lil Yachty on “F*ck The Industry Pt. 2,” and threw shade at Lil Durk after the father of six rescheduled his album release date from today. NBA YoungBoy Explains “F*ck The Industry Pt. 2” Diss To Lil Yachty

Lil Yachty seems to be feeling some confusion after being dissed by 23-year-old NBA YoungBoy on the former’s new Richest Opp project. Thankfully he’s in good company, seeing as Drake and J. Cole were also targeted within the lyrics of “F*ck The Industry Pt. 2,” with bars like “Play with me, Lil Yachty mad about JT, f*ggot / Bitch, play with me, half of y’all ain’t got more money than me.” Elsewhere, YB claims that Champagne Papi refused to work with him because of his ties to Durk, a topic that’s also making headlines.

After hearing the track late last night, Yachty turned to Twitter to share his reaction. Rather than type out a tweet, the Georgia native used a meme of 50 Cent to get his feelings across. “I mean, why he say f*ck me for?” the Power producer asks in the clip, prompting another user to reply with a video of the Lousiana native’s response. “This n*gga Yachty crazier than a muthaf*cka, son,” YoungBoy told the camera with a smile on his face. “Aye bitch, you got me laughing over here, boy. Bitch, you know why I said that, man.”

Lil Yachty Reacts to NBA YoungBoy’s “F*ck The Industry Pt. 2”

According to the “WTF” hitmaker, Lil Boat previously called him about the City Girl, who previously collaborated with him on “Act Up” in the earlier days of the female rap group’s come-up. “Mama, that bitch really check me ’bout that girl. That bitch checked the gangsta man,” YB continued to rant in response to Yachty. “If I ain’t mistaken, bro, you say you asked me about trying to talk to your bitch. And I was confused ’cause you a hoe and you was coming at me, like, I ain’t really do that. Bitch, I got a mental problem over here and I got too much money.”

“You n*ggas might as well stay the f*ck out my way,” he further advised. Apart from throwing shade at Yachty, the record-breaking rapper also didn’t hold back on publicly celebrating when Lil Durk confirmed that his highly anticipated project is delayed by a few weeks.
