Rema Accuses Labels Of Trying To “Clone” Him, Says There’s A “Big 4”

Rema went on a viral rant on Twitter, Sunday, remarking that there’s now a “big 4” and that labels have been trying to “clone” him for years. Additionally, he agreed that every artist has been using him as a template since breaking onto the scene in 2019.

“No more Big 3 there’s now a Big 4,” he began. From there, he wrote in multiple tweets: “Tell your stylists to stop sending mails to brands with my name to get clothes imma pull up to your show and strip u on stage cuz that’s my sh*t HOE! fake celebrities, fake industry,” as well as “Labels get creative, stop trying to clone me.” Later in the day, he added: “Rema made Afrobeat EP’s a Big statement. Taylor Swift’s “Taylor’s Version” Re-Recordings Causing Labels To Change Their Rules

Starting in 2021, Taylor Swift began re-recording some of her old albums. She did to because her old masters were caught up in label bureaucracy, which many fans personally blamed on manager Scooter Braun. In the years since she’s re-recorded her albums Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989. She’s also expected to release two more “Taylor’s Version” albums for her projects Taylor Swift and Reputation.

Each of the re-recorded versions have performed very well commercially. The first three all reached number one on the Billboard 200 and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) which was released just last week is expected to join them. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) already has one of the biggest first-week sales numbers of 2023 so far and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is expected to join it. But perhaps even more importantly, the re-recordings have replaced the original albums in many fans streaming diets. That’s where labels have stepped up in an attempt to prevent artists from doing something similar in the future.

Labels React To Taylor Swift’s Re-Recordings

According to Billboard, the success of Taylor’s versions has scared some major labels into amending their contracts with artists. Many are trying to get guarantees that an artist can’t re-record their material for 10, 15 or even as long as 30 years after departing from the label. The process of re-recording material has been generally somewhat rare in the music industry. But Swift could prove to be a trendsetter which clearly has labels scared.

Swift surprised rap fans over the weekend with her 1989 (Taylor’s Version). She got Kendrick Lamar to re-record his notorious verse from their collaborative single “Bad Blood” for the project. She initially only re-recorded the solo version of the song for the first release of the re-recording. But she quickly followed it up with a special deluxe edition. That version featured even more tracks, including a redone guest spot from Kendrick. What do you think of labels reacting to Taylor Swift’s re-recordings? Let us know in the comment section below.

Blueface Is Supposedly Done Making Music: “I Retired I’m The Label Now”

Just last night (October 30) we reported that Blueface wants to add Lil Mabu’s career to his resume. This is because of a recent tweet that calls out the New York rapper’s relationship issues with Chrisean Rock. It seems the new couple is having some problems behind the scenes. Because of this, the “Thotiana” hitmaker had a question for him. “Make sure y’all add lil mabu career to my resume. [Wh]y is your girl texting me every day bro…what she waiting on? …shambles.” As a result of all of this attention Mabu is getting from being with Chrisean, Blueface thinks that he needs to add his career to his resume.

The Los Angeles rapper’s tweets went beyond that and one of them caught some people’s attention. If you take a look below, Blueface says that he is done rapping. In fact, it seems like he is suggesting he has been done for a minute now. “I don’t rap I retired I’m the label now.” Even though he has done some recent features and put out some singles last month, it appears he is hanging it up.

Blueface Is Done Making Music

In terms of the label part of the tweet, Blueface is referring to his MILF Music label he began back in June of this year. According to XXL, he is only signing women that have kids. “I’m only signing women with children. Your BD [baby daddy] is your only reference that I can use. If he don’t vouch for you, I ain’t f***ing with you. You don’t have to be a rapper. I just need to see star quality in you.” According to Blueface, the rappers on the label include Chrisean, his fiancée, Jaidyn Alexis, Jay Cinco, X.o Rico, and Lil Mabu.

What are your initial thoughts on Blueface saying he is retiring from rap? Do you actually believe him or do you think this is a front? Birdman Claims Drake Signed Bad Bunny To OVO Since “Day One”

Drake continues to be the talk of the town after his latest album For All The Dogs. The record has been hotly debated by listeners and other celebrities in social media circles. One of those is Joe Budden and that is a whole other subplot around the LP’s release. Now, we have another one surrounding Drake. However, this one includes Bad Bunny and Birdman. How did this all happen? Well, let us run down the details and background for you. As for some basic information, Bad Bunny made an appearance on For All The Dogs, teaming up with Drizzy for “Gently.”

On top of that collaboration, they also brought the Latin summer vibes to “MIA,” which came out back in 2018. That song and this latest one are a combination of Drake’s label OVO, and Bunny’s, Rimas Entertainment. However, Birdman firmly believes that Bunny has been with The Boy since the beginning. The Cash Money label leader chopped it up with Wack 100 about all sorts of things, one of which being Bunny and Drake’s relationship.

Throughout the clip provided by No Jumper, Birdman continues to claim that the Latin rapper and singer signed with OVO at the start of his career. “Bad Bunny already signed to Drake,” he says. “Y’all just don’t know it.” This would be a true shock if this rings true. But, as of now, he is official with Rimas, separate from Drake, and neither has came out publicly to confirm Birdman’s statement.

What are your initial thoughts on Birdman saying Bad Bunny has been signed under Drake’s OVO label since his career began? Why do you believe he is saying this? Ice Cube Says Music Labels Encourage Crime Through “Social Engineering”

Ice Cube says that music labels use “social engineering” to further encourage criminal behavior. The legendary N.W.A. rapper discussed the idea while speaking with Bill Maher for his Club Random podcast. Cube advised listeners to “follow the money” and pointed out that some owners of record labels also own prisons.

“Who benefits and profits off our bickering and division?” Ice Cube asked while discussing petty societal debates and division. “Follow the money.” From there, he admitted: “I don’t know their names Bill, but if you follow the money, you go high enough, you start to see.”

Cube then used the record industry as a “broad example of how people at the top can manipulate what’s going on with the people who are bickering and fighting.” He claimed that the “same people who own the [record labels] own the prisons,” while noting that “it seems really kind of suspicious, if you want to say that word, that the records that come out are really geared to push people towards that prison industry.”

Speaking with Bill Maher is just the latest of several public appearances Ice Cube has made in recent days to promote his BIG 3 basketball league. In another interview with The Breakfast Club, Cube claimed that he believes in the existence of the Illuminati. “I don’t know one, none of them, none of them tell me ‘Hey, I’m Illuminati,” Ice Cube said. “I don’t participate in none of that, so, I don’t know about it. Seem like its there, but who knows?”

Ice Cube Discusses Labels With Bill Maher

Elsewhere in the interview, Cube spoke about his lyricism, raising children, nepo babies, and whether the state of policing in America has improved in his lifetime. Check out the full discussion above.

Boosie Badazz Keeps Calling Out Empire For Owing Him Money For Yung Bleu Deal

Boosie Badazz isn’t happy with labels for allegedly failing to pay him for a deal they struck with his artist Yung Bleu. Moreover, he recently took to Twitter after his Instagram Live rant on this matter to further expand on his issues. According to the Baton Rouge rapper, he didn’t even know that Empire Records and Universal signed this deal with Bleu, but that he still deserves the money they owe him for his artist’s partnership. In addition, he also alleged that they waited until he wasn’t around as much to finalize this and count him out of the equation. Overall, it’s quite the odd situation, but one that hopefully doesn’t cause any tension between these two MCs.

“@ghazi [Empire CEO] empire universal etc,” Boosie began his tweet. “CAN YALL PAY ME MY MONEY!! YALL ALL KNOW MY NAME WAS FORGED N I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS DEAL WITH MY ARTIST [YUNG BLEU]! I TEXTED YOU N YOU IGNORED ME FOR 5 MONTHS UNTIL I SAID I WAS SENDIN PAPERWORK. U KNEW I WAS CEO WHY NOT CONTACT ME N GET THE DEAL DONE.”

“COLD PART, YALL WAITED TILL I WAS SHOT UP N A WHEELCHAIR N WENT DID THIS DEAL N GOT MY BROTHER TO FORGE MY NAME!” the 40-year-old continued. “ITS STR8 GREED. DO THE RIGHT THING N PAY ME. YALL THOUGHT I WAS TOO GANGSTER TO LAWYER UP. IM GO FIGHT YALL TILL DEATH FOR MY KIDS MONEY. THIS HAS CAUSED FRICTION WITH ME N MY OWN MOTHER N YALL THINKING ITS A GAME. YALL TRYIN ME ITS UP.” In a separate post on Instagram, Boosie posted the allegedly forged signature and another message against Empire and Ghazi.

Meanwhile, the First Day Back artist recently used Twitter for more positive reasons to urge people to listen to Coi Leray’s new album. “@coileray_ SHOULD HAVE SOLD AT LEAST 100K THE FIRST WEEK,” he tweeted. “‘NOBODY RECENT GOT MORE HITS THAN HER’ either, this s**t rigged. Lil Durk Claims Labels Tried To Pay Him To Beef With Other Rappers

Lil Durk is currently riding a massive wave of acclaim and anticipation, as he’s fully in album more. Moreover, he released the single “All My Life” with J. Cole this week, and fans loved it. As we wait for his next album Almost Healed, which drops on May 26, he seems ready to take on the world- but he’s the only one who will reap the benefits. On Friday (May 12), the Chicago MC tweeted a startling revelation that, if true, speaks to his character and integrity. Apparently rap beef is quite the lucrative business, and labels tried to convince Smurk with some cash to indulge in it on their orders.

“Labels try to pay me to beef I just can’t fake it I’m different I’m him unpredictable,” he wrote on the social media platform. Given his public commitment to keeping it real and sticking by his crew, Lil Durk is no stranger to beef. While this claim might surprise many, it’s also clear that if he’s going to feud with someone, it’ll be purely by his own making and not for clout. After all, The New York Times reported that rap beef makes the industry a whopping $1.6 billion a year, so of course big labels would circle around it like vultures.

Lil Durk’s Smoke Can’t Be Bought By The Higher-Ups

Screenshot via Twitter @lildurk

Still, labels can’t buy Lil Durk, and whatever beef he engaged in is for his conscience and independent image alone. For example, Soulja Boy recently took some shots at Durkio, starting what is so far a one-sided spat. Also, he recently offered longtime rival 6ix9ine $50 million to get in the ring with him. Whether you agree with his moves or not, it’s always his decision and not a part of his wider musical moves.

Of course, we can’t forget the feud between The Voice and NBA YoungBoy, which almost resulted in a sales battle this week. Even though the 30-year-old pushed his album back (much to YB’s happiness), he arguably had the more hyped release this week. Regardless, that battle will likely continue for a long time, and no label could ever hope to replicate that just for some money. Tony Yayo Says 50 Cent Has Done More For Uncle Murda Than Jay-Z

Tony Yayo argued that 50 Cent has done more to help Uncle Murda’s career than Jay-Z. Yayo explained his position while speaking with Murda on Thisis50. Murda signed with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella in 2007 but later moved over to G-Unit with 50 Cent in 2016.

“That’s why I respect him because we have more of an assist,” Yayo said. “We have 50 Cent so I knew I was okay. He sold 11 million records I’m gonna get a percentage of his fans. I’m good. [Uncle Murda] had to kind of more do it on his own. He had deals with Jay-Z and them but Jay-Z ain’t gonna never… I always tell them all the time Jay-Z ain’t treating you like this n***a.”

From there, Murda reflected on Jay-Z giving him his first six-figure check and thanked him for the support. He also joked about Yayo being quick to call out Jay-Z by recalling his response to a party they recently attended. Several high-profile celebrities, including the Kardashians and Serena Williams, were in attendance.

“We just finished performing, great time, right,” Murda said. “First thing my man wanna say, ‘Yeah shit lit, Jay-Z will never take you to a party like this.”

Yayo then continued: “I’m just telling you how we get treated. I’m quite sure Hov and a lot of artists they treat some of their artists maybe good, maybe not. I’m just telling you how we get treated. I don’t know [if] Jay-Z ever had him in the Armani Hotel.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the two discuss Tory Lanez’s recent trial regarding the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, “Rap-Up 2022,” and more.
