Anderson .Paak And Knxwledge Announce Their New NxWorries Album, ‘Why Lawd?’ With ’86Sentra’

For a while there, it seemed NxWorries fans would never get a follow-up to Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge’s 2016 group debut Yes Lawd!. Although the rapper and producer have been teasing a new album since 2022, the wait felt more like torture with each new single (“Where I Go,” “Daydreaming“) that came without news of the new album.

The wait will finally be over soon, as NxWorries announced the title and release date of their new album along with its latest (first?) single. Why Lawd? will be out on June 7 via Stones Throw. The new single is called “86Sentra” and it does not disappoint. It’s got an animated visualizer depicting the duo cruising in the titular car, a groovy, bass-driven beat, and scintillating, swaggering verses from .Paak in classic rap braggart mode.

The gap between NxWorries albums is understandable, as .Paak has been busy for the past few years, what with dropping the Silk Sonic collaboration with Bruno Mars and popping up on seemingly every artists’ singles. In 2023 alone, he collaborated with Cordae (apparently, on enough songs for a full EP), Shafiq Husayn, Jay Rock, and SiR, in addiiton to starting the ball rolling on a new Free Nationals project AND hosting a podcast, .Paak House Radio. With all that going on, it’s kind of a miracle he had time to get Why Lawd? finished in time for the summer. Thank you Lawd!

Why Lawd? is out 6/7 via Stones Throw Records. Get more info here.

NxWorries Returns To Tease New Album With “86Sentra”

NxWorries, the soulful, California hip-hop duo of rapper and singer Anderson .Paak and producer Knxwledge, is back! Yes, after nearly a full year of no new material, they have finally got something new for the always eager fanbase. Ever since their excellent first effort in 2016 with Yes Lawd!, the hype surrounding them grew to epic proportions. However, outside of a remix version to their debut, the multi-talents have not been pressuring themselves to release new music. But we can at least say that NxWorries has a new single out now called “86Sentra.”

It is the shortest of the track that they have pushed out in the last year and a half. NxWorries’ first return after Yes Lawd! was their collaboration with R&B balladeer H.E.R., “Where I Go,” which dropped in 2022. Then, we would have to wait until May of 2023 to receive the gorgeous guitar-backed “Daydreaming.” Both cuts bring us to this short offering “86Sentra.”

Listen To “86Sentra” By NxWorries, Anderson .Paak, & Knxwledge

It brings chill vibes coming from both Anderson and Knxwledge on the rapping and production front. .Paak is bringing some great rhymes and slick flows that skate over the drum-heavy beat. The synths looming in the background add an ethereal quality to the cut. While this is a solid release, the even bigger news is that this track is officially a promotional single! NxWorries will be dropping a new album on June 7 called Why Lawd? according to Pitchfork.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “86Sentra,” by NxWorries? Is this the best track the duo has put out in the last year and a half, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the track and why? Do you think they will be dropping a new album this year? Who would you want to feature on the record? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding NxWorries, Knxwledge, and Anderson .Paak. Anderson .Paak And Knxwledge Go On A Virtual Joyride In NxWorries’ ‘Daydreaming’ Video

Last year, soul music superground NxWorries made a grand return as rapper/singer Anderson .Paak and producer Knxwledge teamed up with singer/songwriter HER to release “Where I Go,” their first new single as a group since their 2016 debut album Yes Lawd! It turned out to not just be one-off when they announced a globe-spanning tour earlier this week and teased the impending release of another new single.

That single arrived today; “Daydreaming” is a hazy, summery track built on a fuzzy guitar, mellow synth chords, and .Paak’s smoky vocals, expressing a wistful desire for an intimate connection. The accompanying video takes some inspiration from .Paak’s other successful group, Silk Sonic, who were included in the game Fortnite with their own radio station and character models. However, NxWorries’ new video acknowledges the group’s more mature target demographic, borrowing its graphical style from the Grand Theft Auto video games instead — right down to the font for the lyrics at the bottom of the screen.

The video sees the virtual version of Anderson connecting with a would-be paramour, dancing in the recording studio, moping in a swimming pool, and taking a sunset drive along the Los Angeles coast. He even plays the single’s guitar solo on a reproduction of the famous Santa Monica Boardwalk. You can check out the video above.
