Nicki Minaj seemingly tried to shut down online rumors of a pending divorce between her and her husband Kenneth Petty, posting a video on Instagram of her family — intact, contrary to the rumor — boarding a private plane.
The rumors started earlier this week, when Nicki posted a cryptic tweet reading, “Yes. Single.” Fans didn’t know what to make of this — whether it meant Nicki has a new single on the way or that Nicki herself is single — so (of course) they defaulted to the more dramatic option. It didn’t help that she also posted a tearful Instagram Story reflecting on motherhood. Taken together, they provided ample evidence for some fans that a big life shift was taking place for the “FTCU” rapper.
Whether her latest post of the family will quiet the rumors remains to be seen, but judging from the reactions on Twitter (going back to never saying “X,” even with the URL change), there are those who’d be perfectly fine with her making this change, considering the various legal and personal issues that have arisen over the last five years since they were married.
Now, if this is just a single announcement, it’s one doozy of a way to let the world know you’ve got a new song coming out, so said single had better live up to the hype.
Erica Mena and Nicki Minaj have a complicated history. Both women had relationships with Safaree Samuels, and Mena even has kids with him. These circumstances have led to some fraught exchanges on social media, as well as some passive aggressive remarks made about one another during interviews. That being said, they can occasionally see eye to eye. Nicki Minaj recently posted a video in which she discussed the difficulties of being a mother, and Mena actually showed support.
Minaj’s post threw many fans off due to the rapper’s appearance and speech. She can be seen wearing a hair-cap and speaking very slowly. She seemed on the brink of tears at points. Regardless of what was going, Erica Mena showered the rapper with support. “You got this,” she commented. “Sending real love. Mom life isn’t easy.” Fans were even more surprised to spot Mena’s positivity, given the negative things she’s said about Minaj in the past. In 2018, Mena posted photos of Cardi B, Jennifer Lopez, Lil Kim and Remy Ma on her Instagram with the caption: “Inspirations.” When a user asked whether Minaj was an inspiration, Mena fired back by asking “who?”.
In 2022, the reality star asserted that she wasn’t a fan of Nicki Minaj’s music. She went as far as to claim that the rapper blew up by copying Lil Kim’s style. “Honestly I grew up on Kim so heavy,” she told Hot 97. “When [Nicki] came out, I was like ‘ugh she’s biting my girl.’ It just was what it was.” The tension between these two women have cooled off in recent years, however. Part of it may be due to their shared issues with Safaree Samuels. Minaj’s split from the producer/rapper was messy, as was Erica Mena’s divorce in 2022. Mena attacked Samuels for cheating on her with Love And Hip Hop Miami star Amara La Negra. She even pointed out that Samuels gave more attention to La Negra’s kids than the ones he had with her.
“It’s just very interesting how my kids NEVER received gifts like this by this waste man,” Mena wrote on Instagram in 2023. “My daughter just turned 3. All she got was a birthday cake and a few balloons in his living room. And please don’t get me started on how he didn’t do anything for my son’s 1st birthday until two weeks after the fact.” It’s obvious that Erica Mena holds resentment against Safaree for being a bad dad. It’s not a stretch to envision this experience, which was partially shared with Minaj, was the impetus for her supportive comments about being a mother.
Trouble may be in paradise as Nicki Minaj fans have expressed concern for the “Anaconda” rapper after she posted a social media video discussing motherhood’s challenges.
In the clip on social, Minaj, dressed in a white robe and pink satin bonnet, recalled giving birth to her son, nicknamed “Papa Bear,” in September 2020. “And then one day, they’re yelling ‘push’ and you’re in pain,” she said drowsily. “Then one day, he comes out a beautiful baby boy. To God be the glory,” she whispered, adding, “Congratulations to every mama out there. You’re doing a great job. In case no one’s told you that, you’re doing a great job.”
All this comes as Minaj, 41, also tweeted cryptically on Monday, “Yes Single …,” sparking fan speculation about whether she was hinting at new music or a potential divorce. This is wild because she just shut down divorce rumors not too long ago. Page Six reported on this and contacted Minaj’s representative but received no immediate response.
Fans in the land of the Barbz flooded social media with messages of support and concern. “I just woke up and seen Nicki insta story, that made me tear up @NICKIMINAJ I hope you okay sending you love and prayers and hugs,” tweeted one user. Another added, “I honestly hope she’s okay. #WeLoveYouNicki.”
ICYMI, Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty, 46, married in October 2019. She previously revealed that the birth of their son during the COVID-19 pandemic strained their relationship. “I’m not going to lie, things got testy between us,” she told Vogue in December 2023. “Because of our history, I think we knew we’d get past it. But there’s no such thing as confidence in parenthood.” She added, “I kind of wish that someone had told me … that there’s a level of anxiety, and you think it’s going to go away, but in fact, it gets scarier.”
Petty, a registered sex offender, has faced multiple legal issues. He was convicted of attempted rape in the first degree in 1995 and served over four years in prison. In September 2023, he was placed on house arrest after threatening Offset, Cardi B’s husband.
On a good note, Minaj is currently on the second leg of her “Pink Friday 2” world tour, with a concert scheduled for Tuesday night in Copenhagen, Denmark. Hopefully, she’s alright. Touring can be crazy and Minaj needs all the support she can get!
Nicki Minaj loves riling up her fans and just moments ago, she did just that with a simple tweet. The iconic rapper and singer has always had a massive social media presence, as she loves to communicate with fans. This message, “Yes Single…” instantaneously sparked a debate with the Barbz. Fans have been mostly split on whether or not she is referring to her love life or new music coming soon. The ones that were shutting down the breakup chatter were doing so in an emphatic manner.
“A new single dropping. Zoo aint going nowhere ”, one user boldly states. “She’s dropping a single. She not leaving that man. Lol”, another similarly adds. If we are getting new music, it would make sense that something is coming soon. Nicki has clearly been through quite a bit over the last couple of weeks. Of course, she was recently released after she was arrested in Amsterdam. Additionally, she just announced a second North American leg of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour.
It will run from September 4 and go through October 11, where she will wrap things up in Queens, New York. “Another American Tour Beginning in SEPTEMBER, BARBZ!!! WAAAAYYYY GAGGIER THAN THE 1st don’t miss it. ”. The trek across the globe has been extremely successful outside of the hiccup we just mentioned. Overall, there is a lot she could talk about on a new single, so hopefully that is the case and there is no trouble in paradise.
What are your thoughts on this tweet from Nicki Minaj? Do you think she is talking about a breakup or a new song on the way? If she means the latter, when do you expect her to drop it? Furthermore, what are you expecting it to be about? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below. Benzino and Coi Leray’s relationship has been strained over the past few years, to say the least. It seems that the one-time co-owner of The Source has an ongoing beef with his daughter that he can’t seem to curb. The comments on both sides have been fiery, though Benzino’s have ranged from needless to downright bizarre. From spilling the beans about her Nicki Minaj collaboration to his wild remarks about Leray losing her virginity, Benzino arguably hasn’t been able to take a step back when it comes to his rap star daughter.
Benzino Says Coil Leray Can’t Criticize His Support for R. Kelly
Benzino’s support of R. Kelly is widely known. He’s repeatedly stated that he believes the R&B singer deserves a second chance to redeem himself. Coi Leray’s response to this has been to further distance herself from her father, stating that she doesn’t approve of or respect any of the interviews he’s been doing lately. But a bizarre turn of events took place during a recent interview on the Famous & Wealthy Podcast. Benzino responded rather oddly to Coi’s decision to put more space between her and her father directly. He weaponized her reveal that she lost her virginity at 14 to both defend himself and R. Kelly, stating, “How can you say that when you just said that you lost your virginity at 14? So is the guy that you lost your virginity at 14 with, is he a pedophile?” This is definitely one of Benzino’s weirdest comments.
Benzino Charges Coi Leray With Pushing A False Narrative
In a fall 2023 interview with Angie Martinez, Coi Leray discussed her shaky relationship with her father. She told Martinez that she sensed some jealousy from her father over her recent success. She added that it’s not something she holds against him since he’s “he’s human.” However well-intentioned her comments were, Benzino seemed to take them as a complete attack. In a since-deleted Instagram video, the 58-year-old responded in a rant. He called Leray’s comments, in so many words, ridiculous. He shot down any charges of envy, arguing that there’s no way he could be jealous of someone he “raised, nurtured, provided for, influenced, and loved very dearly.” The intensity of his response makes one of Benzino’s weirdest comments. It also makes you wonder whether Benzino is trying to make amends or just saving face.
Benzino Lets Coi Leray-Nicki Minaj Collab Out Of The Bag
Benzino slipped a terribly timed comment about his daughter’s collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Blick Blick.” It almost ensured the song never came out since Minaj faced pressure from her label to pull the track. Benzino teased that Leray “got this song with Nicki Minaj that’s gonna be coming out that’s gonna be crazy” on the audio chatroom Clubhouse. Leray, understandably heated, would hop on Instagram Live to publicly lambast her father, telling him to calm down and that “it’s [her] turn now.”
Benzino Threatens Coi Leray’s Mother
During an album promotion interview on The Breakfast Club in April 2022, Coi Leray publicly revealed that her father went broke over the loss of The Source magazine. She said she was about nine years old at the time. Leray would take to social media soon after to reveal that Benzino had sent threatening messages to her mother since the interview. She asked him to stop mistreating her and her mother because of his failures. This seemingly did nothing to slow Benzino down, as he retaliated by taking to X to tweet, “The problem with this…generation is that they have no respect or regard for who came before them and how they laid the blueprint for them to be successful.” His almost compulsive need to have the last word has led onlookers to question the motivation behind his public responses.
In a February interview on Drink Champs, Benzino expressed his upset over Coi Leray shooting a music video for “Luxury Life” with Busta Rhymes. He asked, “How come [Busta Rhymes] didn’t call me?” The answer seems fairly obvious; Leray is a grown woman with a career and makes her own decisions. But this didn’t seem clear to Benzino, who continued, “If he has my number, call me, ‘Hey bro, I’m getting ready to do videos with your daughter’ – that’s my f******* daughter.” The Drink Champs hosts tried to be understanding but were caught off-guard by this statement, one of Benzino’s weirdest comments. They then became downright confused when he stated moments late that “ain’t no beef with Busta Rhymes.” He’s obviously upset with Leray’s part in the Busta Rhymes video, but his anger seems misdirected at best.
Lists have become lighting rods of controversy. Music fans are still reeling from the outrage that was sparked by Apple Music’s 100 greatest albums of all time. Now, it’s Billboard’s turn. The outlet put out a ranking of the hottest female rappers right now, and unsurprisingly, the comment section was flooded with complaints and/or talking points. Some fans felt that it was incomplete, others felt it was ignoring less popular but more artistically ambitious rappers. Some were mad that Nicki Minaj claimed the top spot.
To be fair, Minaj laid the groundwork for the rest of the rappers on the list. She’s also had a resurgence in the last year, thanks to a number one single and a record-breaking tour. Nicki Minaj is as big as a female rapper can get, according to the stats, and that’s not even taking her huge influence into account. Cardi B, GloRilla, and Doja Cat have all cited Minaj as an inspiration on their own style. GloRilla went as far as to say Minaj gets too much hate considering all the doors she opened for female rappers. Be that as it may, rappers like Sexyy Red and Megan Thee Stallion have had meteoric rises in recent years. They place at number two and three, respectively. Doja Cat and Ice Spice round out the top five, despite the former being more of a singer/pop star historically.
As some fans have pointed out, though, Doja Cat has had way more success than Megan or Sexyy Red. She’s scored multiple number one singles as a featured and solo artist, and her albums sell significantly more than everybody else on the list. “Why TF is Megan higher than Doja,” asked one user, which was a sentiment shared by another: “Lol in no world is Meg better than Doja.” Others felt that Megan should be at the top of the list. There were fans who believed Sexyy Red has had the most eyes on her in 2024, and therefore is most deserving of the “hottest” title. “Sexy [sic] is clearly the hottest out,” one IG user wrote.
Then the attention turned to commissions. The missing name that really rubbed fans the wrong way was Rapsody. The North Carolina native is the most respected female rapper working today, and she just put out another acclaimed album, Please Don’t Cry, in May. “No Rapsody is an automatic ignore,” one IG user posited. “Rapsody is LIGHT years better than this entire list,” another wrote. “No shade tho.” Other huge names who were thrown out as being worthy for consideration were Che Noir, Lola Brooke and Kamaiyah. What do you think of the Billboard list? Who got snubbed, and who was placed too high?
It’s been the biggest year in recent memory for fans of rap beef. In the past two months Kendrick Lamar, Drake, BIA, Cardi B, J. Cole, Future, Rick Ross, Metro Boomin, Quavo, and Chris Brown have all been involved in various rap beefs. But the two who led the way were Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. They traded jabs earlier this year with a line from Megan’s “HISS” mentioning Nicki’s husband. Minaj clapped back with an entire diss track called “Big Foot” but it was nearly universally rejected by rap fans outside of her Barbz.
Fans thought that there may be some bad blood between Minaj and Trina that could have sparked yet another beef for her. But during a recent interview she clarified that things between her and Nicki were cool. Mostly she focused on her comments about Beyonce being the queen of rap. She clarified that it had nothing to do with Nicki specifically, just that she believes it’s Beyonce over everybody. While some fans in the comments are happy there’s no beef between the pair, others aren’t convinced of Trina’s claims. Check out the interview where she gives her newest comments below.
Nicki Minaj is currently on her massive Pink Friday 2 tour. She’s currently in Europe, where she ran into some trouble. During a stop in Amsterdam she was arrested and hit with drug charges. Videos of the arrest went viral online as fans criticized the police’s treatment of Nicki. She recently announced a second North American leg of the tour for later this year once the European leg wraps up. Tickets for those shows were released last month with fans who missed the first time around scrambling to see Nicki this year.
What do you think of Trina clarifying that her comments about Beyonce being the queen of rap having nothing to do with Nicki Minaj? Do you believe that there’s actually no hard feelings between the pair? Let us know in the comment section below.
The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years. Celebrities and influencers alike have undergone the procedure to enhance their curves. It’s an age where social media and celebrity culture often promote the perfect hourglass figure. Unfortunately, many view BBLs or butt injections as a quick fix for their body image problems. However, people are increasingly speaking out about their regrets and the harsh realities of the surgery as the trend grows. As these high-profile individuals have demonstrated, the risks and decisions of getting a BBL can have long-reaching consequences.
The New York rapper has been candid about her experiences after regretting getting injections. She revealed that she felt pressured to undergo these procedures after becoming a stripper out of high school. At just 19, Cardi B had breast implants, followed by illegal buttock injections due to insufficient body fat for a traditional BBL. In an interview with GQ, she shared, “When I was 21, I did not have enough meat on my body — if I was to get lipo, I wouldn’t have fat for my ass.” Desperate for a solution, she paid $800 for filler injections, enduring excruciating pain and leakage for five days. Despite the risks, Cardi B attempted to get a touch-up. However, she discovered that the woman administering the injections had been arrested for allegedly causing someone’s death.
In 2014, Cardi got the illegal silicone injections and removed them after giving birth to her son, Wave, in 2022. She warned fans against the procedure during an Instagram Live in December 2022 when she revealed she had 95 percent of her biopolymer buttocks injections removed. “All I’m going to say is that if you’re young, if you’re 19, 20, 21, and sometimes you’re too skinny, and you be like, ‘OMG, I don’t have enough fat to put in my ass,’ so you result to ass shots—don’t,” said the rapper. “When it comes to BBLs, if y’all want advice from me, before you get your BBL done, you have to make sure your blood levels are all right,” she added. “If a doctor says your blood levels are too low or you have diabetes or whatever, don’t do it.”
Nicki Minaj opened up about her own struggles with body image and the pressure to conform to certain beauty standards. During a podcast interview with Joe Budden, Minaj revealed that she received illegal butt injections early in her career. She explained that being surrounded by women with large buttocks at Cash Money Record label studios, particularly those invited by Lil Wayne, made her feel inadequate. “All I would hear them talking about is big butts, and I didn’t feel complete or good enough, good as those girls because I’m like, ‘Oh My God, you know, this is what you’re supposed to look like in the rap culture, and I don’t look like that,” Minaj expressed. Although she said the jokes directed at her smaller buttocks by label members were likely unintentional, Minaj emphasized the impact of their words on her self-esteem.
“I think they said stuff sometimes jokingly. But to a young girl or up-and-coming rapper or anything, when it’s from someone like Lil’ Wayne, it matters. You know?” Minaj said. “Even if they’re joking, they don’t know that the person that is there in that room with them is not finding it funny.” She said she now understood the impact of their words. “They’re just joking. They didn’t mean any harm. But it wasn’t a joke to me,” the rapper added.
Asked by Budden if she held herself responsible for and regrets influencing the BBL trend, the mother of one confessed that she did. “I was one of the first people saying, ‘Oh, I’m not these people’s parents,’ but now I get it. I look at it from a different perspective now. Because superstars inadvertently become role models no matter what,” Minaj said.
Memphis singer K. Michelle has also been vocal concerning her regrets about getting injections and the pressure to conform to industry beauty standards. She underwent a staggering over one dozen surgeries in one year to have her injections removed, yet still struggles with confidence in her body. “I be asking myself, ‘Are you healed or are you just numb?’ You know what I’m saying? So, when you do 13 surgeries in a year and you watch your mama look at you like ‘what the f—k did you do to yourself?’” K. Michelle shared with The Shade Room.
She attributed her decision to get the augmentations to the expectations within the entertainment industry. “I didn’t know that certain things were needed and expected until I got into the industry,” she said. “Then it got very—I gotta do this. I need to fix this; I got the money to do this, so I need to fix that. That was the worst sh—t ever.” She now believes that her strength is her greatest physical asset. “I’m learning…to deal with the confidence, and I’m not ashamed to say that […] You gotta figure out what is it about you, and that’s what I’m doing.”
Chantel Sophia
Social media influencer and podcast host Chantel Sophia addressed a follower’s question about whether she felt peace after regretting getting a BBL. In a transparent response, Sophia revealed that the surgery had only intensified her existing insecurities. “I always say this to anyone who comes to me with, ‘Oh, I wanna get surgery, I wanna do this.’ Be prepared to have a focus on all your insecurities times a thousand,” she cautioned. Sophia explained that while the initial “honeymoon phase” of enjoying the change in her body was gratifying, the eventual comedown was inevitable.
“In my case, it wasn’t perky enough, it wasn’t round enough, it wasn’t big enough,” she recalled. “Some days it wasn’t small enough. Nothing was enough.” The podcaster also felt her buttocks had become an integral part of her identity as a result of seeking approval from others. “My character trait became how big my bum was…i just needed the outward validation that ‘does everyone like this yeah?’” she explained.
R&B songstress Queen Naija also expressed regret over her decision to have a BBL. “I hated my hip dips and c-section belly,” she wrote in the comments of a post by The Neighborhood Talk. “Now I dislike how all my weight gain goes to my booty and hips. Either way, I disliked something.” While many users suggested that a removal procedure could alleviate her concerns, Naija admitted that the thought of another surgery was too daunting. She added, “Can’t be perfect y’all [shrug emoji]. I would get it reduced, but the risk of getting put to sleep again is scary.”
Recently, Blac Chyna had several major cosmetic surgeries reversed. These included a breast reduction, silicone injections from her butt, and fillers from her face. Chyna explained that when she was 19, she had shots in her buttocks, which she now regrets. “I just want all the ladies out there to know: Do not get silicone shots. You can get sick, you can die, have complications, and all this other…stuff.” She added, “Normally, my procedure would’ve taken four hours tops. My procedure took over eight-and-a-half hours y’all. Whatever that silicone mass—whatever that was that was in my buttocks—it kept clogging the machine and breaking it.”
She explained her motivation for making the change. “I’m just tired of the look. It’s just not flattering. It’s just not what I look like,” she told her doctors in an Instagram Live video. “It totally changed my face and I’m just ready to get back to Angela. Blac Chyna’s Blac Chyna, and I feel like I’ve outgrown that.” She also revealed that she began getting fillers at a very young age, which did not allow her body time to fully develop.
Rachel Velasco, a 23-year-old influencer, endured an excruciating experience that made her regret getting a BBL at 7Q Spa in Los Angeles. The procedure was performed by Dr. Anna Gevorgyan, an OB-GYN on probation. Desperate for the perfect body, Velasco overlooked the risks. “I was just so thirsty to get a BBL,” she told NBC News. Hours later, she was hospitalized, “screaming and covered in blood,” enduring “indescribable agony.” Despite complications and minimal results, including a 4-inch puckered scar, Velasco spent over $13,000. Gevorgyan, who previously practiced in Illinois, faced disciplinary action in both states. Velasco admitted, “I would have not done this if I would have known that I would have a scar and it would be this big hooplah,” questioning, “You cut my body open for what?”
Celebrities and influencers can make cosmetic procedures like the BBL appear quick and easy to achieve. However, as the experiences of Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, K. Michelle, and others demonstrate, the reality is far more complex. In addition to their risks and potential complications, these procedures do not address the underlying emotional and psychological factors contributing to low self-esteem.
Ultimately, the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is a deeply personal one that should not be taken lightly. It’s essential to approach these procedures with a clear understanding of the risks and limitations. And by prioritizing self-love, self-care, and a healthy body image, an individual can achieve true confidence and contentment.
Eminem is back in Slim Shady mode. There are lots of different ways to tell. For one, the rapper’s new album will be called The Death of Slim Shady. The music video for his lead single, “Houdini,” features the classic, bleach blond Slim in action. The most telling side effect of a Slim Shady sighting, however, is the lyrical insult. Eminem’s alter ego loves to take shots at his peers, his predecessors, and pretty much any other person he can think of. He targets multiple people in “Houdini,” but the most notable is far and away Megan Thee Stallion.
Eminem turned the zaniness up to ten on the new single. He tells Dr. Dre to “f*ck off,” and does to the same to his children (one of whom just got married). Both Dre and his family are been topics of scorn and adoration over the years, however. Megan Thee Stallion is someone new. The rapper flipped a line about scoring a guest verse from Megan into a double entendre about Tory Lanez shooting her in the foot. “If I was to ask for Megan Thee (What?) Stallion if she would collab with me,” he raps. “Would I really have a shot at a feat? (Haha). I don’t know, but I’m glad to be back like.”
It’s a clever turn of phrase, but a topic that has not been received by the hip-hop community. Rappers who have poked fun at Megan Thee Stallion have either been scored by fans or Megan herself, in the form of a diss. Megan managed to win her battle with Nicki Minaj while dropping a number one single, “HISS,” in the process. The diss song, which dropped in January, is actually relevant to the current Em situation. Megan Thee Stallion made an oblique reference to Slim Shady on “HISS.” “I feel like Mariah Carey (Mariah Carey),” she rapped. “Got these n**has so obsessed (Damn).”
The line is meant to address Megan’s haters, but it’s also a reference to the 2008 Mariah Carey diss song “Obsessed.” The target of Mimi’s diss was, infamously, Eminem. The tension between the pop superstar and the rapper ran throughout the 2000s, and many feel like the former won out with a hit single. Eminem dissing Megan Thee Stallion over a subliminal actually makes a lot of sense. Eminem knows how to hold a grudge against rappers who slight him. He waited years to respond to MGK on record, and when he did, he demolished the pop-punk artist. It’ll be interesting to see if Megan Thee Stallion decides to respond.
Megan Thee Stallion may be one of the most popular rappers in the world, but she’s had a difficult path to success. Her rise to fame coincided with a lengthy legal battle against Torey Lanez. The battle ended with Lanez receiving jail time, but a lot was said about Megan’s character that affected her self esteem. The rapper admitted that she felt ganged up on by the rest of the music industry as a result. She talked about this difficult period during a recent profile with L’OFFICIEL, and how the single “HISS” helped her get out of it.
Megan Thee Stallion told the outlet that she fell into a depression during the Lanez trial. “I felt so awful every day,” she admitted. “It was such a hard place to get out of. I don’t even want to care who hates me, really. What I should be focusing on is the love that I do receive.” The rapper said that this period helped her develop a thick skin. “That’s what I’m trying to get better about now,” she asserted. “Everything is not going to be great all the time. If I’m going to be here for the cheers, I got to be here for the boos.”
Megan Thee Stallion Felt Validated By The Song’s Success
It’s fitting that music was the thing that revived Megan’s spirit. The rapper was being attacked from all sides, including from Nicki Minaj. The two had thrown shots at each other previously, but it turned up a notch at the top of 2024. It was, in many ways, a precursor to the year of rap battles that we’ve had so far. Megan Thee Stallion put out the Nicki Minaj diss “HISS,” and it went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. “Hiss” marked the rapper’s third number one single and first as a solo artist. It also was a shot of confidence at a much-needed time in her life.
“It felt good to finally be able to just talk my talk because I was in a place where I was so down, and I didn’t want to do anything to disrupt any kind of peace,” she opined. “I felt like, ‘Oh, Megan Thee Stallion, everybody hates you right now. Don’t you say a word. Just be quiet.’” “HISS” was also an opportunity to prove that she had what it took to go at the queen of hip-hop, Nicki Minaj, and come out the victor. This came as a surprise to even Megan herself. “I absolutely did not know it was going to do all of that,” she told the outlet. “I had no clue that was going to happen. It felt like everybody was kicking me when I was down.” If that’s not a remedy for depression, we don’t know what is.
