Ayra Starr Fends Off “Bad Vibes” On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

HotNewHipHop‘s R&B Season playlist is back to round up the best R&B-adjacent releases of the week, and as usual, we have a select few but nonetheless captivating cuts to go through. First up is Ayra Starr and Seyi Vibez’s new collaboration “Bad Vibes,” which evokes a lot of tender Afrobeat instrumentation to craft a pretty enveloping and calming cut. In particular, the vocal harmonies on the choruses really help to give this track life amid its tranquil production, and highlight each artist’s individual performance even more. There’s a lot of chemistry on display here, whether it’s between the watery synths and crisp drums or between deep croons and airy, soaring proclamations.

While there are no more collabs on our R&B Season update, Yaya Bey’s new album Ten Fold showcases the versatility and charisma of countless minds in the studio. In particular, we want to shout out the track “career day” for its compelling juxtaposition between blunt lyricism and an easy-going, guitar-backed boom-bap rhythm. “Who you wanna be when you grow up? Hmm, me” is one of many lines here that represent this song’s soft but still confident demeanor, as Bey does a lot with a little vocally. The groove is absolutely locked in here, and the vocal shifts between high and low pitches are a versatile treat.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Stream

Speaking of albums, we have a more sultry and nocturnal R&B experience with SAFE’s latest LP, Tell It Like It Is. However, the track “focus / too many” subverts expectations quickly with a moody atmosphere quickly interrupted by distorted hits of percussion, warped vocal effects, and a switch-up into a stark trap beat. The drop hits hard, and SAFE’s coolly boisterous delivery balances out the grittiness with a glamorous sheen. If intoxicating cuts aren’t usually your thing, we’d definitely recommend this record and the whole project to convince you that there’s more common ground than you might assume.

Finally, we have praise for Tink’s new single “Huh” due to its slow build-up from a spotlit vocal performance into minimal percussive dreaminess. While it’s not the most unique cut you’ll find this week, few tracks this week were able to deliver as much passion as this one with so little. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season pick was this week, as well as what else we missed, down in the comments section below. Check out the playlist above and, as always, check back in with HNHH for the latest amazing music drops around the clock.

DJ Akademiks Claims Drake Isn’t Done, Alludes To Kendrick Lamar Beef

DJ Akademiks’ Mother’s Day stream on Sunday (May 12) has a lot of people thinking that the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef isn’t as over as people think. While he remarked that K.Dot has more songs in the vault, more likely than not, he also theorized that there’s probably nothing that will drop in the very near future. However, the media personality did indicate that Drizzy is making a return, and that he will probably keep dissing his rival, presumably through subliminals or passing mentions based on his explanation. What Ak really seems to be getting at is that both sides have music planned for the future, but that any bad blood won’t manifest itself via a back-and-forth battle like the one we just witnessed.

Furthermore, this is all speculative and, from DJ Akademiks’ viewpoint, mere guesses based on what little we know and what the artists themselves have indicated. Drake already seemed to step out of the beef with his latest IG Story post, and rumors of a new Kendrick Lamar album floated around the Internet before the 6ix God mentioned them on “The Heart Part 6.” Most importantly for some obsessive fans, the streamer also said that both MCs probably lied throughout their diss tracks. As for the Toronto superstar, he likely lied about Dave Free fathering Mr. Morale’s kid, and the Compton lyricist presumably and likely lied about The Boy’s secret kid(s?), according to Ak and his previous stances on these family matters.

DJ Akademiks Speaks On The Drake & Kendrick Lamar Battle

Meanwhile, other rap media figures like Charlamagne Tha God still see a way forward for Drake if he wants to win this particular battle. But for a lot of fans, the ink is dry either way, and more escalation would only beat folks over the head way more than they wanted. Kendrick Lamar has seemingly claimed the crown, but a lot of the points that they made against each other probably will still manifest in their careers. The OVO mogul will still be a commercial juggernaut, and the pgLang creative will still receive heaps of acclaim for his work.

But we want to know what you think: where do you see this beef going? Will we see more antics from Drake and Kendrick Lamar fans in their efforts to find the truth and crown an objective winner? Let us know whatever you think down in the comments section below. Just know that your take could age like milk in a matter of days, and that we’re in for a long summer if DJ Akademiks is anywhere near in the right.

Drake’s $15 Million Texas Home: See Its Acres & Luxury Cottages

Drake may be facing some trespassing problems in his Toronto home, but he’s got a nice mansion near Houston to switch things up if need be. Moreover, new pictures and videos have emerged of his property in Chappell Hill, Texas that he purchased for $15 million from Lifestyle Ranch & Home Group back in October of 2023. The acres used to be a resort, but it went out of business around July of 2022 due to financial problems amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It features a lot of impressive and luxurious amenities that you can see in the video linked below, including cottages for family and friends, a full commercial kitchen, a horse track, and plenty of land for whatever the 6ix God sees fit.

Furthermore, a lot of fans are speculating whether or not Drake will want to move into this property as soon as possible given some horrible security threats back in Toronto. Not only have there been three attempted trespassers in the past few days, but the Bridle Path neighborhood also suffered a shooting that struck an alleged security guard. While outlets indicated that this occurred very near to Drizzy’s home, the situation still remains quite unclear. Hopefully these issues can be resolved soon, as no one should have to suffer through these scary situations.

Drake’s Texas Ranch: See Video

Meanwhile, a lot of folks tied it to the Kendrick Lamar feud that he recently battled out, although he seemed to wave the white flag on Instagram. Of course, Drake will surely come back at some point with some heat for his fans and the general rap public. In fact, it will be interesting to see just how quickly we forget that this feud happened in the first place. Surely some more hits and plenty of time removed will result in some selective memory.

Speaking of which, there are some out there who still believe the battle is not over, and that Drake could come out on top. Let us know your take on that in the comments section below, but understand that it’s a tough call to make either way. He’s got a lot to process, something that this Texas mansion can perhaps aid in. We’ll see whether the next song we hear from the OVO mogul is something along the lines of “10PM In Chappell Hill.”

Drake And Kendrick Lamar’s Messy Feud Could Be Over After One Of The Rappers Seemingly Conceded Online

The feud that no one wanted or could avoid might finally be over. Longtime frenemies Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s war of words has apparently lasted long enough.

Over the last month, each has released several diss records aimed at one another starting with Lamar’s jabs on Metro Boomin and Future’s song, “Like That.” Although Drake’s multiple responses including “Family Matters” were valiant efforts, Lamar’s “Not Like Us” has been crowned the unwavering winner by the masses, which includes Uproxx‘s hip-hop editor Aaron Williams.

Today (May 11), Drake somewhat agreed by seemingly conceded to Lamar via his Instagram Stories. After taking a moment to celebrate his mom Sandra for Mother’s Day, the “First Person Shooter” rapper closed out his string of posts with a subtle message to Lamar.

The photographer featured a Japanese Samurai surrounded by an army of hundreds captioned: “Good times. Summer vibes up next.”

If you were waiting for a white flag to be waved, this is the closest thing to it because Lamar sure isn’t going to bow out anytime soon.

Drake put up a good fight. But he simply can’t win everything. At least he still has the vicious win from his spat with Meek Mill under his belt.

Boosie Badazz Commemorates Acquittal’s Anniversary Amid Potential Legal Win

Boosie Badazz has a couple of legal wins to celebrate, or at least, a potential escape in sight as he reflects on his previous victories. Moreover, he recently took to his Instagram page to commemorate when the court acquitted him in a 2009 first degree murder case. “12 YEARS AGO TODAY !!” the Baton Rouge rapper captioned his IG post. “I WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY N LET OFF DEATHROW N PUT BACK N POPULATION @runwithjason #MARTIN REAGENrip #NICOLE #Donk TRUST N GOD ‼” This was a big pop culture moment and especially so for the hip-hop community, so looking back on it must mean a lot to him.

Furthermore, the Boosie Blues MC might score another legal victory over his federal case for firearm possession, according to reported Meghan Cuniff. According to a reported new appellate opinion, people with non-violent felony convictions can legally possess guns for self-defense purposes. This new legal development could lead to the court dismissing his gun case, as his situation is very similar to the overturned case that this appellate opinion stems from. In both cases, authorities found firearms during a traffic stop and neither defendant caught accusations of any other illegal activity.

Boosie Celebrates Anniversary Of His Acquittal

As such, Boosie might get this legal headache away from him, but no obstacle can stop him from speaking his mind on the culture. Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef did not escape a take from this perspective, and this assessment may surprise you. “I never seen so many men excited to see men tearing each other down thru music,” he wrote on Twitter. “The men r more excited than the women lol.

“DO YALL REALLY WANT ONE OF THESE GREAT ARTIST CAREER DONE CAUSE THEY LOST A RAP BATTLE?” Boosie continued. “DO YALL WANT ALL WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR HIP HOP OVERSHADOWED BY RAP BEEF? THEY TALKING ABOUT CHILDREN, BABYMOMAS DIRT, FIANCÉS, MOLESTATION, PEDOPHILES ETC. ‘S**T THEN GOT REAL.’ I HOPE YALL DONT THINK THESE ARTIST N CREWS SHAKING HANDS N SMILING WHEN THEY SEE EACH OTHER. NOBODY GO BE SAFE N THE NEXT ARTIST CITY. NOT TO MENTION WHEN OTHER ARTIST START PICKING SIDES N GETTING INVOLVED smh THATS WHEN S**T GET SERIOUS #justspeakingfacts.”

Soulja Boy Unleashes On 21 Savage For Defending Metro Boomin Amid Resurfaced Diss Drama

Recently, Soulja Boy took to Instagram Live to vent about a resurfaced Tweet from Metro Boomin, prompting 21 Savage to chime in. “My phone rings to come to the studio with Jeezy,” the Tweet reads. “Yours rings to send Soulja Boy a pack of beats. Sit down.” It was originally written back in 2012, but regardless, he wants it deleted. “F*ck is you talking about Metro Groomin?” he said, “Go delete that Tweet… I don’t give a f*ck if it was three years old, I don’t give a f*ck if it was 20 years old.”

Soulja Boy then claimed that Metro Boomin had “24 hours” to remove the Tweet, leaving 21 Savage curious. “Or what,” he asked in Akademiks’ comments section. Now, Soulja Boy has gone after both of them in a heated Twitter spree, and taken his complaints to Instagram Live once again.

Soulja Boy Pops Off On Instagram Live

In a clip from his Instagram Live, he hurls countless insults at 21 Savage, clowning him for being from the UK and questioning why he didn’t stick up for Drake amid his recent viral beef. To answer 21 Savage’s question, he also clarified that if the Tweet isn’t deleted, he plans to “slap the f*ck” out of both him and Metro. “You think I’m scared of a British rapper?” he asked, “You was born in Britain.”

He then went on to accuse 21 Savage of turning soft ever since joining Drake on tour, telling him he’s lucky he’s on probation. Clearly, he didn’t take the comment lightly and doesn’t plan to let it slide. 21 Savage has yet to respond. What do you think of Soulja Boy popping off over Metro Boomin’s resurfaced Tweet? Is he overreacting? What about 21 Savage jumping in? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Ray J Calls Sexyy Red “One Of The Best Rappers He’s Ever Heard,” Moniece Slaughter Disagrees

Ray J just gave a pretty hot but understandable take on the Tronix Network premiere of Love After Hip-Hop, one that Moniece Slaughter was in staunch disagreement with. Moreover, he called Sexyy Red “one of the best rappers he’s ever heard,” and an example of someone who doesn’t need a lot of marketing to establish their hit status. In the clip below, they don’t discuss much else, but the singer and entertainment figure also called her one of the top three female rappers of all time. The spicy assessment sidesteps Sexyy’s shorter time in the limelight, but one can’t deny her massive impact.

Furthermore, she got co-signs from pretty much every corner of the music industry, including a strong collaborative bond with Chief Keef. The St. Louis MC has a couple of hits under her belt already, and with each one, she shows no signs of slowing down or letting up on her prolific craft. Ray J may be putting Sexyy Red on a pretty high pedestal here, but it’s hard not to do so with the context of contemporary hip-hop in mind. It’s a multifaceted beast, but one that she definitely controls a specific corner of alongside similarly impressive and show-stopping femcees.

However, all this praise for Sexyy Red can’t get Ray J out of other pickles in the entertainment industry. For example, Hazel-E recently accused him of setting up a fight between her and Masika Kalysha without letting her know beforehand. It’s unclear exactly what beef transpired between these three individuals, but it still hit the gossip pages as a continuation of previous L&HH disagreements. As the brain behind the Tronix Network enterting a new realm of reality TV, we’re sure that there will be more (but hopefully fewer) disagreements down the road.

Meanwhile, Moniece Slaughter gained recent notoriety for her often controversial and dismissive takes of some femcees today, although she also praises others just the same. Her stark denial of Ray J’s praise of Sexyy Red, though, rings off as particularly negative. Let us know which side you’re on down in the comments section below. Also, drop your theories as to whether the Hood Hottest Princess will eventually reach that top three femcee status.

Charlamagne Tha God Reveals How Drake Could Win Kendrick Lamar Feud

Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical feud has garnered reactions from countless social media users and peers. Unfortunately for Drizzy, the consensus is that K-Dot came out on top. His response to “Not Like Us” was poorly received in general, as most felt as though it wasn’t nearly as hard-hitting as it needed to be in order to compete. Now, Drake appears to have waved the white flag for good, sharing a cryptic Instagram Story this morning hinting at what’s next for him. “Good times,” he captioned an image of a singular samurai facing a large cavalry. “Summer vibes up next.”

Despite Drake seemingly declaring the beef over, fans continue to come up with hypothetical ways he could turn things around. During a recent episode of Brilliant Idiots, for example, Charlamagne Tha God shared his take. He thinks that what Drake would need are receipts to back up his accusations, like a paternity test from Dave Free or some kind of proof of Kendrick’s alleged domestic violence.

Charlamagne Thinks Drake Would Need Receipts

“Kendrick’s energy is to discredit him,” he explained. “Right now the reason that Kendrick wins is because he’s got all the energy.” According to Charlamagne, the reason there are threads backing up some of Kendrick’s claims is simply because Drake lost, and because people are more eager to see him knocked down a peg.

They went on to debate whether or not receipts would actually make a difference, agreeing that it may be impossible to match the magnitude of what’s already happened. What do you think of Charlamagne Tha God’s take on how Drake can come out on top in his feud with Kendrick Lamar? Do you think receipts would help him at this point, or is it just too far gone?
