MC Lyte Thinks Sexyy Red Gets Too Much Hate For Her Lewd Music

Sexyy Red’s superstardom rose alongside a lot of criticism over her raunchy content and presentation, which has sadly never been an uncommon reaction to femcees. One of the most legendary female rappers of all time, MC Lyte, recently reflected on this history during an interview with The Neighborhood Talk at BET‘s Media House ahead of their awards show this Sunday (June 30). However, it’s important to note that her comments on the St. Louis MC don’t really seek to answer the question of whether or not this should be an approach that women in hip-hop continue to engage with. Rather, it calls out double standards and a lack of historical context and knowledge that leads to unjust vilification.

“Nothing that we see is really new,” MC Lyte’s remarks on Sexyy Red began. “And so, you know, we’ve all lived through the advent of ‘My Neck, My Back.’ Trina, Kim, Foxy… You know, so we lived that. So nothing surprises us, I don’t think. As an artist, as a creator, everyone’s always pushing the limits and the boundaries. But also, she didn’t pop out of a planet. She came from a neighborhood where this is how they speak to one another, this is how they communicate. And so this is definitely art imitating life. I think it’s important for people to know that it appears to me that she’s being herself. Whenever you’re being yourself, how can anybody argue with that?”

MC Lyte’s Thoughts On Sexyy Red

Of course, we know that MC Lyte herself isn’t immune to lewd and controversial content. In fact, her comments about age gaps back in the day probably would get much more flack today than anything that Sexyy Red is doing in particular. But context is everything, and time heals all -– well, most wounds. Who knows how folks would’ve reacted to “Bow Bow Bow (F My Baby Dad)” back in 1991?

Meanwhile, MC Lyte also came to the defense of other rappers like LL Cool J and even President Joe Biden when it comes to their public perception. When Biden called LL “boy,” it sparked a debate around the connotations of the word. Like a lot of other people online, Lyte didn’t find it to be a big deal and instead opted for empathy and forgiveness. We’ll see how this Sexyy Red take ages in comparison.

Bronny James Wearing “9” To Honor Juice WRLD Lebron Reveals

Bronny James’ path to landing on the Los Angeles Lakers via the 2024 NBA Draft is not as easy as some are making it out to be. Obviously, his dad played a fairly substantial role in helping him make his dream a reality. But the USC product had to still put in all of the work to train, learn the game, eat right, and etc. to get noticed to begin with. Fans are also quick to forget that he dealt with a major roadblock before his collegiate career even got underway. While training, the guard went into cardiac arrest, and it was a pretty scary moment for him and his family.

He never let that deter him and instead absorbed all the noise and now he can say what many people cannot, “I’m an NBA player”. All of this adversity is why Bronny James is wearing number “9” this season, as he is paying respect to the late rap legend, Juice WRLD. LeBron revealed this according to a Shade Room IG repost. It was revealed a while back that the 19-year-old got “999” tattooed behind his ear. For those unfamiliar, Juice WRLD essentially gave that three-digit number meaning by including it in every part of his life. According to Genius, the Chicago icon also tweeted back in 2018 about its significance.

“I took the hell I was going through (666) and flipped it over into something positive (999)”. Bronny James is certainly not going to stop hearing people talk down on him when he hits the NBA hardwood. Like LeBron, he is going to be under a microscope for everything he does. Bronny is already enduring “hell” in that regard, but he looks to be ready for the challenge. If Juice WRLD were here, there is no question he would be proud of the young star.

What are your thoughts on Bronny James wearing number nine for the late Juice WRLD? Did you know the meaning the rapper gave “999”? How do you think his career in the NBA will pan out? What kind of player do you think he will resemble the most? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Shaq Apologizes To Drake & Explains His Recent “BBL Drizzy” Post

There’s not a corner of pop culture or entertainment that the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef hasn’t hit on yet, and its presence in sports is quite a curious one. Many NBA teams, for example, used these disses to warm up for playoff games, and the competitive nature of the feud inspired a lot of takes from sports commentators. In fact, we even saw Shaq have a little bit of fun by parodying the “BBL Drizzy” beat on Inside The NBA alongside Chuck, Kenny, and Ernie. But Shaquille O’Neal recently had to explain a bizarre edited picture that he posted of him chilling on a boat with presumably his girl or a female friend… with the 6ix God’s face placed over hers and “BBL Drizzy” playing in the background.

“Let me apologize right quick,” Shaq’s explanation of the whole thing began during his latest episode of The Big Podcast. “I sent out a picture the other day. The mistake I made was that I should’ve said, ‘Who did this?’ Because I want Drake to know… Listen, Drake has a great sense of humor, so I thought it was funny that they did it. I don’t want him to think -– like, I saw ‘Shaq’s trolling.’ No, I’m not trolling.

Shaq Explains “BBL Drizzy” Post

“No, I didn’t Photoshop it,” Shaq continued. “Somebody Photoshopped it and I actually saw it and I took the picture. So, Drake, I apologize. I should have put ‘Who was this?’ on there, because I don’t want you to think I did that. Somebody sent it to me, I thought it was funny and hopefully you thought it was funny, too. But once it went viral, I definitely took it down. But, so, my bad, big Drake.”

Meanwhile, Drake is already moving onto bigger fish to fry, and has some song of the summer contenders with his new collabs with Camila Cabello. But folks are still spreading a lot of memes and hilarious content about the Kendrick Lamar battle, and we’re sure that Shaq has many other takes on it. We’ll see whether more celebrities join in on the fun, although they’re pretty late if they’re just getting started. Nevertheless, don’t let Stan Twitter fool you: not everyone’s diving in Reddit rabbit holes to have fun with this rap-off.

The Alchemist Predicts That Kendrick Lamar Will Drop An Album In 2024

The Alchemist is immortalized in rap battle history. He provided the beat for Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams,” one of the most chilling disses ever recorded. He didn’t realize it would be a diss when he first made the beat, but that’s irrelevant now. The Alchemist is team Kendrick Lamar. It’s this association that led TMZ to question the producer about Dot’s upcoming release schedule. The outlet wanted to know if The Alchemist had the inside scoop on a secret album.

The Alchemist started his interaction by showing love to Lamar. He also gave a shout out to the work of a fellow producer, DJ Mustard, on “Not Like Us.” He described the diss as a “big record” worthy of number one single status. Alc then addressed the possibility of Lamar dropping a new album. “I think he’s gonna drop an album this year,” he asserted. The Alchemist made it clear that Lamar won the beef, and doesn’t have to drop, but has a good feeling. “I don’t think he has to,” the producer explained. “I think he will, just cuse he can.” TMZ asked The Alchemist whether he has more beats to give to Dot, and he made it clear that he did. He then pointed at his car and said: “I got some records in this car, I’m about to send them as soon as I get home.”

The Alchemist Plans On Sending Multiple Beats To K. Dot

The Alchemist and Kendrick Lamar have been collaborating since 2017. The former produced “The Heart Part IV” and the song “FEAR” off Lamar’s album DAMN. The two legends also linked up for the song “We Cry Together” off 2022’s Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. The Alchemist has always spoken highly of K. Dot and his recording process. He went as far as to say that working on “FEAR” helped him to deal with the passing of his father. “Having a beat on it was one of the only good things that happened during that time that brought me back to life,” the producer wrote on Instagram in 2022. “I remember thanking Dot & telling him that he helped me in more ways than he could imagine.”

The Alchemist is seemingly everywhere these days. In addition to working with Lamar, the producer is hard at work on Eminem’s upcoming album. He didn’t produce Em’s new single, “Houdini,” but he told MTV that he was very much involved in the recording process. “That’s my boss,” he noted. “I deejay for him and I’m not at liberty to speak on much, but you know his caliber and what he does.” The Alchemist even made a cameo appearance in the music video for “Houdini.” We’re excited to see what him and Em cook up together.

Megan Thee Stallion Holds Live Snake At Her Album Release Party: Watch

Megan Thee Stallion is in celebration mode. She’s dominated 2024 thus far, with number one singles and a gargantuan tour. She’s also managed to steal her fair share of guest spots. The rapper is in the midst of her peak, and she’s making it count. Megan Thee Stallion threw an album release party to commemorate her new record, Megan, and she surprised guests by bringing out a live snake. It gets better. The “BOA” rapper decided to handle the snake herself, and show it off to some of her famous friends.

Megan posed with the snake alongside GloRilla and Asian Doll. One of the photographers snapping pics of the event asked what the snake’s name was. Unsurprisingly, Megan Thee Stallion claimed the snake is also named “Megan.” It is promotion for a self-titled album, after all. The decision to bring a snake to the release party makes perfect sense, given the serpent motif that’s been running throughout Megan’s new album. Her lead singles were called “HISS,” “Cobra” and and “BOA.” She laid out her decision to go in a “snake” direction during the Megan teaser. In the teaser, the rapper can be heard saying: “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again.”

Megan Thee Stallion Showcased A Snake Named “Megan”

Megan Thee Stallion expanded upon this concept during an interview with L’Officiel USA. She made it clear that she doesn’t condone so-called “snake behavior,” which talks about a lot on the album. She’s using serpent imagery to relay the concept of “renewal and rebirth.” This ambition also aligns with the rapper’s previous comments have having a difficult period in her personal life. Megan Thee Stallion had to contend with public criticism in light of her court battle with Tory Lanez. It was the release, and major success of “HISS,” that restored her confidence. Renewal, rebirth.

“We don’t just stop at the snake,” Megan Thee Stallion told the outlet. “We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes. But I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in western culture. Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality.” The rapper also admitted that she liked the threatening connotations that come with snakes. “I like darker things,” she added. “Things that are a little scary. I like things that are unique. I picked the snake because… it’s kind of like an antihero.” Megan’s anti-hero era is off to a great start.

Foolio’s Instagram Posts Promo Video Amidst Hacking Confusion

Foolio’s memory has not seen rest yet. The rapper’s tragic death has been overshadowed by a series of disses and bizarre incidents on social media. The former has come about due to Foolio’s beef with Yungeen Ace. The latter, however, is still a mystery that’s unfolding. Foolio’s Instagram account was hacked on June 28. This lead to a series of posts and comments that had hip-hop fans scratching their head.

On Friday night, the rapper seemingly urged fans to follow his profile. He did so in a video that was posted directly to the Foolio Instagram. “Aye, this Foolio man,” the rapper says into the camera. “Go follow my people… I’mma put their app below… go follow [them] right now.” The caption under the video reads: “No fuel, no deal. Everything guaranteed.” It’s unnerving to watch, however, knowing the rapper himself is not behind the upload. The hacker had already struck earlier in the evening. Earlier, Foolio seemingly commented on Yungeen Ace’s diss song “Game Over.” The hacker left a trash emoji in the comment section, which prompted Ace to respond.

All this is going on while the search for Foolio’s killers persists. Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters issued a statement on who the police are looking to Newsweek. He was careful not to reveal too much, though. “These groups – I won’t name them, they know who they are,” he explained. “We’re not going to tolerate any retribution, any revenge… we’re going to watch. We’re going to pay attention to what’s going on.” The Jacksonville police have not announced any suspects. Consequently, no arrests have been made.

Yungeen Ace Responds To Foolio’s IG Being Hacked After His Death

Foolio may have died, but Yungeen Ace is keeping the beef alive. The latter has not taken his foot off the gas since Foolio’s passing. If anything, he’s doubled down. He dropped two disses, “Did It” and “Game Over,” and both are ruthless takedowns of a rapper who can no longer defend himself. Well, you’d think he wouldn’t be able to, at least. A bizarre incident happened on June 28. Foolio’s Instagram account was hacked, and the hacker decided to leave a comment on one of Ace’s posts.

The comment was left on the music video link for “Game Over.” The hacker, who has yet to be identified, posted a trash can emoji. A valid response, given the content of the song, but morbid given the fact that Foolio is not behind the keyboard. Yungeen Ace saw this comment and responded. Without missing so much as a beat, the rapper wrote: “You still f*cking with me dude.” He included two laughing emojis, and then added: “I love you 4eva.” The love on Ace’s side is, presumably, sarcastic, given how brutal his diss tracks against Foolio have been.

Yungeen Ace Showed Love To Foolio Despite His Diss Tracks

That being said, this isn’t the first time Yungeen Ace has shown love to Foolio. When the latter was involved in a 2023 shooting, Ace hopped on Instagram to wish him the best. “I’m glad you survived,” he wrote. “I love you la bra.” Foolio (the real one) wrote back: “Love you too.” This directly contradicts the celebratory tone that Ace has taken since. It does suggest, however, that peace was a possibility at one point. Yungeen Ace was asked whether he would ever squash things with Foolio during a 2021 interview with DJ Vlad.

The rapper didn’t deny the possibility, but he didn’t directly answer the question. “I really want what’s best for the city,” he explained. “I just want everybody to win, no matter what it is, what it ain’t.” Foolio also sat down with DJ Vlad to hash out the same problem. The late rapper was more direct. “It’ll prolly [end] sooner than later,” he told the host. “You never know what God got planned. I told [Ace] that a couple times. We be talking, time to time.” The interview takes on a tragic bent, knowing how Foolio passed, and how Yungeen Ace has continued to act.

Drake Sends Thank You Message To Camilla Cabello After Their Collab

Drake has great chemistry with female artists on record. He’s near the top of the list when it comes to rappers with classic duets. It should come as no surprise, then that his new songs with Camila Cabello, “Hot Uptown” and “UUUGLY,” are being praised. The pair sound great together, especially on the former. Cabello has sung the praises of Drake in the lead-up to the song’s release. She praised his artistry, and his kind presence in the studio. Evidently, the 6 God thought it was time to return the favor. He gave Cabello his flowers via Instagram on June 28.

Drake posted photos of him and Cabello during their “vacation.” A vacation, Cabello, revealed, during which they laid down the vocals for “Hot Uptown.” The first photo sees Drake and Cabello sitting at a table, and second sees them riding on jet skis. “Thanks for the link up @camila_cabello,” the rapper wrote in the caption. “Congrats.” Drake has a good cause to give Camila Cabello her flowers. He has struggled to get his musical footing back after losing the Kendrick Lamar battle, and their two collabs have been the best-received songs he’s dropped in months.

Drake Posted Photos From His Trip With Cabello

Camila Cabello addressed the Drake vs. Kendrick battle during a recent interview with The Times. She was with the rapper in the aftermath of “Not Like Us,” and was saddened by the impact it had on the 6 God. “Drake is such a delight,” she told the outlet. “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a negative way.” Cabello went a step further, and voiced her desire to see the battle come to a peaceful end. “You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something,’” she explained.

Cabello was also eager to work with Drake because of her adoration of hip-hop. While she’d worked with rappers before, she wanted to explore that side of her music more on her new album. “I listened to rap that I grew up with in Miami and what was popular at the time,” she told Complex Magazine. “But I didn’t listen to Illmatic and I didn’t listen to Dr. Dre and a lot of the classic hip-hop albums from before.” Well, the collaborations proved beneficial on both ends. Maybe Drake and Cabello have more hits together down the line.

Rihanna Leaves ASAP Rocky Stunned By Turning Up To GloRilla: Watch

Earlier this month, GloRilla dropped off her summer-ready new single, “TGIF.” So far, most fans agree that it’s a bop, and it seems like some of her celebrity peers do too. Earlier today, Rihanna took to Instagram to share a clip of herself turning up to the fun single, leaving her partner ASAP Rocky in awe.

“Happy friday,” she captioned the post. In the clip, RiRi shows off some sultry dance moves while rapping along to the song, as ASAP Rocky looks on silently. “Where my drink at?” he eventually asks, “I’m too old for this sh*t.” Clearly, Rihanna is a fan of the track, and followers can’t blame her. They’re sharing their reactions to her dance moves, and ASAP Rocky’s hilarious response, in her comments section.

Rihanna Dances To GloRilla’s New Track “TGIF”

Among the first to comment was none other than GloRilla herself, who appeared to be overjoyed to learn that Rihanna is a fan of her song. “RIRI OMGGGGGG,” she wrote alongside a series of heart-eye emojis. “I luvvv yoouuuuuuuuu.” Keke Palmer, Ice Spice, Yung Miami, and more also took to the comments section to show the Fenty icon some love. Turning up to other artists’ music isn’t the only thing keeping Rihanna occupied these days, however. Earlier this month, she revealed that she’s finally gotten started on her new album, which fans have been demanding for years.

She’s set the bar high for the upcoming project, telling Extra in April that she’s determined to make sure it’s perfect. “It’s gonna be amazing,” she explained. “It has to be — that is the only reason it’s not out yet. If I’m not feeling it and I’m not feeling like it represents the evolution, the time I spent away … There should be a show of growth, right?” What do you think of Rihanna vibing to GloRilla’s new track “TGIF”? Yungeen Ace Ruthlessly Disses Foolio (Again) On New Song “Game Over”

Yungeen Ace and Foolio did not like each other. They were caught up in a deadly feud that lasted years. It may have potentially played a role in Foolio’s death. Tragedy has not stopped Ace, however. The rapper has continued to diss Foolio on record. Yungeen Ace dropped a song called “Do It” right after Foolio passed, on which he alludes to putting out a hit on someone’s life. Ace doesn’t mention names, but he knew how the verse would be perceived by the public. He decided to do it again. Worse, he decided to be more disrespectful.

Yungeen Ace dropped the song “Game Over” on June 28. The title already carries with it extremely grim connotations. The bars are even worse. “Dead on the floor, dead on arrival, Mr. 6. I’m steady screamin’ out, “F*ck the long, f*ck the 6,” Ace raps. “Four in the car and one of them dead, three got hit. I told them n**gas they don’t want no war with this sh*t.” This is where plausible deniability goes out the proverbial window. Foolio was one of four passengers in a car when he was killed. Foolio’s set is 6 Block. The number is littered throughout the entire song. Yungeen Ace isn’t even trying to be subliminal. “Game Over” literally starts with the rapper saying: “Y’all know I smoke dead people, man, you know what I’m sayin’? And I smoke 6, haha.”

The rapper went as far as to detail Foolio’s death. “5.56 increase the murder rate, ‘nother body on the way,” he spits. “Mask on, get up close, this another closed case. Don Julio shots to the face.” Foolio used the name “Julio Fulio,” and Yungeen Ace likens his death via shooting to taking shots of Don Julio tequila. Disrespectful doesn’t do the song justice. Ace’s decision to celebrate Foolio’s death so publicly could come back to haunt him, however. Especially given how blatant he’s been with his bars.

Criminal lawyer Brian Rivers analyzed Yungeen Ace’s “Do It” on social media. He claimed that the lyrics could land the rapper in serious legal trouble. “If they can link Yungeen Ace to any kind of case,” Rivers explained. “This is coming into evidence. If you dance this close to the sun, you’re gonna get f*cking burned.” Ace’s decision to not only drop a diss, but drop a second, more detailed diss, is certainly an example of dancing close to the sun. Time will tell if his career suffers as a result. His reputation, however, has already started to chip away.
