It goes without saying that it’s been a rough couple of days for Ray J. Yesterday, footage of him getting into a heated argument with Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer surfaced online, though it’s unclear exactly what prompted the debacle. Things nearly got physical, as Ray took a swipe at Plummer, but onlookers were able to break things up before it escalated to that point.

Ray J later took to his Instagram Story with a lengthy message, revealing that he was struggling with his mental health. In his post, he mentioned taking a break at the BET Awards while working backstage, then being denied reentry. “I don’t know who they didn’t want me to see,” he said of the incident. “It was weird.” The post left fans extremely concerned for his well-being, which he’s yet to address.

Ray J Claims He Was Denied Reentry At BET Awards

 

Now, however, footage from the BET Awards obtained by TMZ has provided fans with a bit more insight. In the footage, Ray is seen standing outside of his car, chatting with security at the event. Eventually, his shirt comes off, and he appears to get heated. “I didn’t bring the ghetto to BET yet, but I’m about to,” he said. Sources who spoke with the outlet claim that Ray J had been going in and out of the event all night without wearing his credentials, which is what prompted security to lock him out for good.

They also say that Ray J believes there could be a racial element to the story as well, as the security guard who refused to let him back in is reportedly white. Megan Thee Stallion is taking one heck of a victory lap in the wake of releasing her new album, Megan. In addition to reupping one of her most high-profile partnerships with a hilarious commercial for Amazon Prime Day, she’s also been celebrating the success of her Hot Girl Summer Tour, which has brought both admirers and increased camaraderie with the current generation of rap girls. She was given a chance to talk about it all — and given an apology for a vulgar joke — on the latest episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay show.

Right at the top of the episode, Sharpe issued his mea culpa for the tasteless joke, which involved a comment on Meg’s attractiveness that came across as very unattractive. During a prior episode in November with fellow former NFL star Chad Johnson, Sharpe noted that Megan was “stacked up like dirty laundry in a dorm room” then, in response to a question about dating her by saying he’d “have her stretched out like a quarter-to-three.”

While he acknowledged that he was out of line, he also assured her it was all said in jest — and as a country girl herself, Meg certainly understood.

Childish Gambino Rocks Out On ‘Lithonia’ From His New Movie ‘Bando Stone & The New World’

Donald Glover is one step closer to unifying with his musical alter ego Childish Gambino with the release of “Lithonia,” the first single from the soundtrack of Glover’s upcoming post-apocalypse comedy, Bando Stone & The New World.

After the song’s existence was inadvertently revealed by an overly enthusiastic fan, Gambino officially released it with no further hiccups. The track opens with a somber organ, suggesting something in the vein of his moodier psych-funk tracks from Awaken, My Love! — but then, it becomes a full-on, operatic rock anthem. It looks like Glover’s next musical evolution may end up being closer to Queen than Parliament. No, I’m not retracting that incredible wordplay.

Bando Stone & The New World appears from its trailer to be a bit of a comedic take on monster horror like A Quiet Place, with the titular singer emerging from his self-imposed isolation to discover an abandoned world that is now populated mostly by aggressive creatures. He quickly learns that he has none of the survival skills necessary to last more than a day in this new world; fortunately, he learns this from a competent survivor, who teams up with him despite his uselessness. Fans have already begun trying to decode the meaning of “Lithonia” and how it relates to this character, drawing parallels between “Bando Stone”‘s obviously fabricated moniker and the “Cody LaRae” whose name is repeated throughout the “Lithonia” chorus.

Yo Gotti Doubles Down Amid Angela Simmons’ Gun Purse Controversy

Angela Simmons recently stepped out for the 2024 BET Awards rocking an unconventional accessory, which has since sparked a great deal of backlash. Photos of Simmons posing with a bedazzled gun-shaped purse circulated online shortly after the event, and many social media users weren’t feeling it. She later clarified that she in no way intended to offend anyone, and simply liked the bag’s design. “I’m not violent,” she explained. “I’ve obviously been through a lot in my personal life when it comes to gun violence and it’s very personal to me.”

Simmons also took to Instagram to issue a heartfelt apology, revealing that she “deeply” regrets her decision to carry the purse. Now, Yo Gotti has taken to his own page to address the fallout. He seems to be taking a drastically different approach, however.

“She just practicing,” In an Instagram Story posted earlier today alongside a series of gun and laughing emojis. “LOL.” While fans can’t blame him for standing by his girlfriend amid the controversy, some think that he went about it the wrong way. After all, she just issued a formal apology for the purse, which he’s now seemingly condoning. He’s left social media users split, and debating about whether or not Simmons even deserved any backlash in the first place.

Eminem And Big Sean Team Up With Detroit’s Future, ‘BabyTron’ On The Spider-Man-Inspired ‘Tobey’

Eminem continues the rollout for his new album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) today with a new song. “Tobey” features Em’s fellow Detroiters Big Sean and BabyTron — what a look for the latter — and finds the trio trading verses full of their signature punchlines.

Yesterday, Em shared a trailer revealing the release date for the long-awaited album, which will be his first since 2020’s Music To Be Murdered By and his twelfth studio album overall. The controversial MC got the ball rolling with the release of “Houdini,” a comedic single calling back to his Eminem Show single “Without Me,” complete with a return of his Rap Boy persona from that video (he even did his own stunts in the new video).

However, not everybody enjoyed the return of the trollish persona. Megan Thee Stallion fans called out the rapper for making a joke of her injuries in the lyrics to the song, while defenders argued that he’s always made light of serious situations. Whether “the dead of Slim Shady” will mean an end to such juvenile “jokes” remains to be seen.

Marlon Wayans Wants Kendrick Lamar & Drake To Put An End To Their Beef After Rick Ross Altercation

Marlon Wayans says Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Rick Ross, as well as The Game need to put their ongoing feud to rest. He discussed the beef in a statement on Instagram after Ross was involved in an altercation in Canada, earlier this week, for trying to play “Not Like Us.”

“Dear Hip Hop. It’s all fun and games until people start getting hurt,” he wrote. “Remember this, HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF! I knew Tupac, I knew Biggie. I partied with them, hung out with them, saw them both 20 minutes before they got shot. Violence is real. Everyone can be touched. Don’t entertain the devil. I love @champagnepapi love @richforever love @kendricklamar love @losangelesconfidentinal [The Game] and I say to all my brothers there’s enough for everyone to eat.”

Eminem Fans Praise His New Single “Tobey” With Big Sean & BabyTron & Their Fiery Bars

Eminem’s rollout for The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) is fully underway, and fans are even more excited for the album thanks to the new single “Tobey” featuring Big Sean and BabyTron. Moreover, the Detroit affair is an absolute lyrical onslaughts, with rapid bars landing over an eerie, dramatic, and percussively minimal instrumental. Fans seem pretty impressed from what early online reactions suggest, pointing out some of their favorite bars and remarking on all MCs’ lyrical capabilities. It seems like we’ll be saying goodbye to the iconic alter-ego, but die-hards are confident that this will be a fitting, fulfilling, and bombastic conclusion to his story.

Furthermore, we already have a release date for The Death Of Slim Shady this summer, so fans are officially counting down the clock for it. It’s going to be a very interesting project to dive into, as there could be some conceptual connections and probably a lot of self-reflection. While this new song isn’t as Slim Shady-esque as some might expect, it does see Eminem performing at a high capacity, building off of Big Sean and BabyTron’s confident and speedy verses. Also, one of the most exciting things about these singles is seeing how their context changes on the LP itself.

However, we’d be remiss not to mention that Eminem claims the hip-hop throne on “Tobey,” standing by his “ripping” of other rappers that folks often place higher than him on all-time lists. We do have a recent example to look at on this point, as Marshall Mathers recently made Lil Wayne’s list of his top five MCs of all time. Also included were Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Biggie Smalls, and Drake, and if you’re counting a posthumous collab with The Notorious B.I.G., Em’s collaborated (and arguably murked) all of these spitters on some songs, including Weezy. Rick Ross has a couple of Instagram formulas, one of which is a happy and boisterous message to his followers from a sunny day at his Miami home, usually paired with a promo for one of his liquor brands. He did so recently with his Luc Belaire champagne, and wished some “morning glory” to his fans despite some recent occurrences possibly shifting his mood. However, it seems like Rozay is pretty unbothered by his recent Vancouver, Canada fight with Drake fans after he tried to play Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” at a festival. It prompted some funny reactions from some OVO supporters, but it seems like he’s taking it in stride.

Still, one thing that Rick Ross didn’t appreciate at all was how his ex Tia Kemp was flirting with Drake in his Instagram comments section. “They f***ing his fat a** up,” she had remarked on social media in reaction to the Vancouver brawl. “I’m glad they smacked the s**t out your big a**. It seems like not even beef with the biggest rapper on the planet can distract him from continuing to engage in this nasty back-and-forth with his former partner.

Of course, his current virality makes him a perfect candidate for Madame Tussauds, recently prompting the NYC museum to unveil a brand-new Drake wax figure. Reportedly, they also just revamped the museum portion of the museum, which the unveiling was part of. He’s depicted wearing a khaki jacket and jeans, positioned alongside the likes of Beyonce, Harry Styles, and more.

Diddy’s situation seemingly grows worse by the day, and new remarks from Roger Bonds indicate that he could contribute to his process of accountability if his accused crimes of sexual assault, abuse, and sex trafficking are all true. Moreover, Sean Combs’ former bodyguard spoke to DJ Vlad on VladTV about how he would testify against the Bad Boy mogul if the court subpoenas him. Vlad clarified that cooperation isn’t mandatory, but Bonds feels morally obliged to stand up against injustice and in defense of the women that his former employer has allegedly and, in the case of Cassie, definitely mistreated.

Furthermore, Roger Bonds expressed that he doesn’t care about folks calling him a “snitch” because his priorities now favor his family’s well-being and that of others instead of street codes. Vlad gave him his due respect for his efforts and principles, and he emphasized the crucial need to promote change against abhorrent and criminal behaviors and systems. In addition, Bonds had previously spoken about reaching out to one of Kim Porter’s friends about Diddy after her death. While he has his doubts, he believes that Combs truly loved her despite his alleged conflicts with her in their relationship.

Meanwhile, this promise from Roger Bonds comes as Diddy tries to distract himself from everything that’s going on. As such, we don’t really know that much about the situation or about what this movement looks like amid various accusations and lawsuits. But one thing’s for sure: each and every pop-out brings us one step closer to seeing how this will all end.

Elsewhere, the Combs family is trying to move on with their lives as well, with his twin daughters attending the BET Experience show. It’s definitely been a difficult process to undergo, especially under so much media scrutiny and theorizing. Maybe one day, there will be a legacy for them that goes beyond the works and alleged crimes of its patriarch. But not today.
