Lil Durk Teases New Collab With Kodak Black: “Let’s Pop Out”

With a new album on the way, Lil Durk apparently has some heavy hitters on the tracklist. Over the past few months, Durk’s hinted at the release of his follow-up to 7220, though nothing’s really come of it. At one point, he said that his project would randomly drop at midnight on a Saturday, though that never materialized. However, he’s assured fans that it’s some of his best work yet and we hope that he follows through on that promise.

It seems like one person we might be able to expect on the tracklist is Kodak Black. This morning, Durk took to Instagram where he shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call with Yak. In another post, he wrote, “@kodakblack what we doing let’s pop out.” Unfortunately, neither have shared any snippets of music to confirm this collab but it seems quite likely that we’ll hear them on the same track at some point in the near future.

Durk’s had nothing but good things to say about Kodak Black over the years. Last year, the Chicago rapper sat down with the Full Send Podcast where he called the Florida rapper one of the few rappers who have hip-hop on lock. I listen to a few artists who really keep me on my toes,” he responds. “I’m gonna name my three, not the three the world already know. [Lil] Baby, I’m gonna say Kodak [Black]. This is not including like the Thugs and Futures now. I’m sayin’ 21 Savage,” he said.

Durk and Kodak Black have worked together on numerous occasions in the past. In 2018, Durk enlisted the Sniper Gang founder for their collab, “Benihana” off of Signed To The Streets III. However, their collaborative streak expanded further in 2022 when Durk returned the favor on Back For Everything. The “Laugh Now Cry Later” rapper delivered a stand-out verse on “Take You Back.” Hopefully, the collaboration won’t stay in the vault for too long and we’ll see a release date soon. Check out Lil Durk’s post with Kodak Black on Instagram above and let us know who you wanna see on the follow-up to 7220.

Doechii Quietly Responded To Kodak Black Backlash By Releasing A Solo Version Of ‘What It Is (Block Boy)’

Even before the success of her debut TDE single, “Persuasive,” musician Doechii has been unapologetically Black. In fact, her fierce embrace of her culture was one of the things fans loved about the singer the most. However, after the news was shared that her latest single, “What It Is (Block Boy),” would feature rapper Kodak Black, social media was taken back.

Despite the song showing off, as she described, “a side of my vocal range with this one that my fans haven’t really seen yet,” fans couldn’t seem to get past why Doechii would collaborate with the rapper given past remarks he’s made that some consider to anti-Black. Last year after losing to Latto at the BET Hip-Hop Awards for Song Of The Year, he took to Twitter to call her a “hating ass mutt,” in reference to her being biracial.

Kodak has also made comments against deeper-toned women, saying, “Dark skin women are more difficult. I like light skin women. They are more sensitive.”

Fans of Doechii took to Twitter in droves to bring that to her attention.

Although Doechii hasn’t addressed the pushback directly, shortly after the song’s release, she doubled back to social media to share that a version without Kodak Black is now available across streaming platforms.

Now, only the solo version of the track without Kodak Black can be found on the singer’s official YouTube page. One of the top comments on under the video reads, “Way to listen to your fans!!! Proud of you! Showing all the women in the industry how to navigate label vs. what’s true to you/your fans”

Fans circled back to thank the singer for taking action so swiftly.

However, not everyone was pleased. Some expressed that the collaboration should have never happened. While another shared that she shouldn’t have pulled the Kodak Black verse.

Kodak Black’s Best Songs

While some may consider Kodak Black’s song controversial, it is impossible to deny that he has had a successful career. Kodak Black is an American rapper and songwriter. At his younger age, Kodak Black has done a lot in his life. Even though he has done various criminal things and tries to be sneaky to get to the top, Kodak has a heartwarming spirit. Also, this has helped him get to the top of his game.

Apparently, Kodak has already delivered a massive number of hits in such a short period. Without further ado, here are Kodak Black’s best all-time tracks.

Kodak Black Song: “Roll in Peace”

With “Roll in Peace,” Kodak brings heavy bass with a catchy hook and a rocking instrumental. Even though the song came out in 2017, many of his fans still listen to it over and over again.

Fundamentally, the melody of the flute, which is slightly out of tune, goes well with the sound of Kodak’s voice, which is rough. “Roll in Peace” has been regarded as one of his best songs since its release.

“Codeine Dreaming” (Feat. Lil Wayne)

In this song, Kodak Black goes into full story mode, with synth plucks that are repeated to make a catchy melody. The simple instrumental allows plenty of space for the artist’s lyrics, and the pitch-changing 808s provide excellent dynamic variation.

“Codeine Dreaming” also features Lil Wayne’s backing vocals, making it one of the best Kodak Black songs and collaborations. More so, the hook stands out because it has a lot of intensity and a lot of movement.

“NO FLOCKIN’”

Even though this song came out a decade ago, it is still one of Kodak Black greatest song. “NO FLOCKIN,” shows how good he was back then. During a time when the artist was getting more fans, he did a great job of copying the trap sound of the time.

If you’ve heard of any of his recent work, you’ll notice that his rapping skills have changed a lot. Also, the quality of the production shows how far he’s come as an artist. Even though new Kodak fans might not know the song, long-time fans consider it to be one of his best works.

Kodak Black Song: “Tunnel Vision” (2017)

Kodak Black discussed a lot of systemic problems and also talks about his own life in this song. The rapper from South Florida raps about his time in prison and how the criminal justice system is unfair to Black men. In the video for “Tunnel Vision,” Kodak is shown in front of a burning cross. This is a reference to how the KKK burned crosses in front of the homes of Black people in the early 1900s. Later in the video, the rapper talks about a white man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat who is about to shoot a black man when his gun jams and a little girl yells “Stop!” Interestingly, RIAA has certified this song six times platinum.

“SKRT”

Kodak Black put out “SKRT,” which has a more R&B sound, to appeal to a different group of listeners. In this song, he shows off his ability to harmonize and also writes catchy lines for each stanza.

The music is much quieter than his usual style, with tired piano chords and percussion parts that move with his lines. Also, the song has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

“ZEZE” by Travis Scott and Offset

Kodak recruits Travis Scott and Offset for “ZEZE” off of his 2018 album ‘Dying to Live’. On this track, all three rappers brag about the best things in life. Luckily, this song debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest-charting single that starts with “Z.” The previous record holder was a cover of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” by Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans, which reached No. 8 in 1963. RIAA has also certified this song six times platinum.

Kodak Black Song: “VOODOO” by Future and Kodak Black (2022)

Future enlisted Kodak Black on the song “VOODOO,” which was on his 2022 album “I Never Liked You.” Kaash Paige, who is an R&B singer, adds more vocals to the song. In this catchy trap song, Future raps about expensive things and drugs, while Kodak compares the devil and the angel. The song debuted at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

“Versatile”

The song “Versatile” by Kodak Black came out in 2017, and by time in his career, he’s proven himseilf. Many people think this is one of Kodak Black’s best songs because of the raw message and how much it has helped him as an artist. Nonetheless, the instrumental doesn’t change a lot, but the piano melody keeps the song interesting.

 “Skrilla”

Another iconic single from Kodak’s early career, the instrumental on “Skrilla” is instantly recognized during live events. Also, it resonates with any die-hard Kodak fan from the first note alone. Even though the production value is low, Kodak is known for this kind of raw sound. At the same time, the quality of the production is typical of this type of rap music in 2014 and 2015.

Kodak Black Song: “Like Dat”

Lastly, we are wrapping up this list with another banger from Kodak. “Like Dat” by Kodak Black is an alternative and peaceful instrumental song with a lot of synth-driven chords and melodies. The song moves slowly, but the strong bass line makes it bang your head. Many fans like Kodak’s tougher songs better. However, every now and then, he releases a mellow gem that becomes a fan favorite for years to come.

Is Kodak Black On His Way To Jail…Again?

Kodak Black has had a share of his challenges throughout his career. He has found himself behind bars multiple times. And it looks like he may be at it again. We hope not as we never want to see a young superstar like Yak put his life in jeopardy.

We are rooting for the Kutthroat Bill rapper to turn his life around. He has a family, is a leader in his community, and has a tremendous influence in Hip Hop today. Will Kodak Black go back to prison? Here’s a few reasons why he may escape jail time.

Drug Rehab

Last week, Kodak Black was ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation program after fentanyl was found in his system.  Although he was able to attend Rolling Loud in Los Angeles, this past weekend, the “Super Gremlin” rapper reported to rehab on March 8th.  After missing a mandatory court-ordered drug test last month, Broward County Judge Barbara Duffy issued a warrant for Kodak’s arrest.

The Florida rapper’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, believes the urine test of his client was a false positive.  Throughout his relationship with Kodak, Cohen says he has never tested positive for fentanyl and has already gone through treatment for similar issues in the past.  Cohen also suggests that a lab employee could’ve made an error while handling his client’s file because of his status.

In response to this, Judge Duffy opted for a hair sample from the “ZEZE” rapper, to which he declined.  This is when the Judge ordered him to attend an in-patient rehab facility, but Kodak didn’t seem to mind.  He had other things to worry about, like getting a jolly rancher before heading out.

If Kodak can successfully complete rehab, then surely Judge Duffy will notice his efforts and keep him out of jail.

Yak Needs This Team

Good thing, the 25-year-old rapper has good influences around him this time around.  During Kodak’s time at Rolling Loud, his team helped him stay clear of all drugs.  His team also wanted him to focus on his health over the weekend as a physician monitored his meals.  Staying clean and sober before rehab was the only goal for Yak and his team.  Also, to help him stay on the straight and narrow path, the court tagged the “Wake Up In The Sky” rapper with a GPS ankle monitor.  He wore the monitor while performing.

It was a successful performance for Yak, even though at one point a fan threw a water bottle at him.  If he can always keep this team around him, I don’t see Kodak going to jail.

Kodak is Too Busy For Jail

Yak has had his ups and downs thus far in his career.  The Back for Everything rapper is busy these days and that could be in his favor.  At Rolling Loud, he announced that he is opening his own chicken wing company.  Kodak calls it “Kodak’s Wings” and festival attendees were able to try some of his wings at the three day festival.  The official launch is set to be later this year.  “Kodak’s Wings” will serve dishes such as wing and fry combos and chicken tender baskets.

Not only does he have business ventures, but he also has to work.  With Yak behind bars, he will be missing out on shows as he was tapped for the Broccoli City Festival.  The D.C.-based event will be held from July 15-16.  We all know Kodak loves to perform for his fans after earlier this year when he missed a performance.  Video surfaced of him pleading with the venue to let him perform as he even offered to pay.

A few weeks ago, the “King Snipe” rapper revealed he is enrolled at Arizona State University.  After receiving his GED in jail, Yak wanted to continue his education.  Going to jail right now shouldn’t be in Kodak’s plans.

Uncle Trump Has His Back

If Kodak Black is on the verge of going to jail, I believe Donald Trump will help him out.  It seems like the two have a bit of respect for each other.  Before Trump’s presidency came to an end, he granted Kodak clemency, in which he was able to be released from prison.  The main reason the ex-President did this was because of Kodak’s donations to enrich the education sector in his community.

In celebration of his pardon, the Sniper Gang CEO had a ring made with the words “Trump Ties” on one side and the date he was pardoned on the other side.  Kodak calls him “Uncle Trump” now and even purchased a near $10,000 pendant of the former host of The Apprentice.  The pendant depicts the 45th President smoking weed while wearing his infamous red MAGA hat.  Yak remains connected to Trump as mentioned before, he is represented by Bradford Cohen.  Cohen is a friend and supporter of Trump appearing on The Apprentice in 2004.

Kodak makes sure he stays on Trump’s good side.  After Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime performance, the 76 year old entrepreneur went to his own social platform, Truth Social, to say that it was the “worst half-time show in history”.  Black went to Instagram to post a video affirming Trump’s statements.  Fans weren’t too happy with him doing so, but the young man knows how to play his hand.

Let us know if you think Kodak Black will stay on the straight and narrow path after rehab in the comments.
