Reason & Punch React To Being Placed Last In Fan’s TDE Rankings

Reason and Punch both responded to a fan placing them as the two worst artists on Top Dawg Entertainment for a ranking list on Twitter, on Friday. The full list goes in the following order: Isaiah Rashad; 2. ScHoolboy Q; 3. SiR; 4. SZA; 5. Ab Soul; 6. Jay Rock; 7. Daylyt; 8. Ray Vaughn; 9. Lance Skiiiwalker; 10. Zacari; 11. Punch; 12. Reason. The fan made the list while responding to Reason’s freestyle over the beat for Drake’s “8am in Charlotte.”

In response, Reason wrote: “See man this isn’t fair and I have a problem with this immensely!!! Smh. Like this just proves yall pay no attention to music and what’s going on and I hate it! Smh. I SHOULD BE 13! WHERE IS DOECHII???” He added that he didn’t have an issue with Rashad getting the number one spot. As for Punch, he was most upset with himself not being higher up. “11 is crazy smh. lol,” he wrote.

The interaction comes after Punch just recently came to the defense of his label-mate, SZA, on Twitter. When Brian “B.Dot” Miller criticized her track, “Snooze,” Punch called him a “hater.” “You can’t be a hater your whole life champ,” he told the journalist. “You should rebrand. lol.” Check out his and Reason’s latest posts on Twitter below.

Reason & Punch Address The TDE Ranking

Despite his placement on the list, there have been rumors about Reason’s possible departure from TDE in recent weeks. When Drake dropped his Kendrick Lamar diss, “Push Ups,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet: “Nah this final production CRAZY.” Lamar was famously a member of TDE for most of his career. Ray Vaughn Delivers A Head-Nodding Flow On “Blasphemy”

Ray Vaughn might be new to Top Dawg Entertainment, but do not let his “inexperience” fool you. The Long Beach, California rapper has been on the label for about three years now and pretty soon he will be dropping his debut album. Fans have been waiting for this moment, especially after releasing single after single since 2018. We most likely have our next album single from Ray Vaughn called “Blasphemy.”

There is a chance that this is now the fourth teaser from the still unnamed project, with our last offering from him coming back in late March. The one that really caught a lot of people’s attention though is “Problems” with Pusha T. Both were bringing their A-game on that cut. But “Blasphemy” might be the one to overtake it.

Listen To “Blasphemy” By Ray Vaughn

This track is braggadocious to the core and it features some slick and cocky bars that are sure to be in our heads for days. “I know the guys’ gone blast for me / Louis V pouch at capacity / They can’t make this in a factory / God just blessed me with it naturally.” All of this is performed with an incredibly sticky melody and flow from Ray Vaughn. The eerie and trap beat is provided some of the best in the business, including Boi-1da and OZ. All of these factors combined give fans a track to have on repeat.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Blasphemy” by Ray Vaughn? Is this the best track that he has put out as of late, why or why not? TDE's Rising Star Ray Vaughn Delivers Single "Blasphemy"

Ray Vaughn, the latest sensation from Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), continues to set the music scene ablaze with his latest single, “Blasphemy.” Produced by a powerhouse trio including Boi 1da, OZ, and SMPLGTWY, the track showcases Vaughn’s distinctive wordplay and boasts an infectious hook, “F**k up the forecast!”

Following his collaboration with Pusha T in February, Vaughn’s newest offering reinforces his rising prominence in the industry. Despite its explicit nature, the hook fosters an engaging dynamic between the artist and his audience, promising to ignite every corner it touches.

Accompanied by a visually stunning video shot partly in an LA church and on the city’s outskirts, Vaughn and his crew proudly brandish the TDE flag, reinforcing their allegiance to the label. “Newborn tiger, earnin’ my stripes!” exclaims Vaughn, embodying the bold spirit of his music.

SiR Presents Some Of Deepest Material On “HEAVY”

Inglewood, California’s own SiR has been wowing us over the past few months with two incredible singles. January’s “NO EVIL” was the Top Dawg entertainer’s first solo single in a year and a half and it floored us. Perhaps his most powerful performance of his career in terms of vocals, it was an homage to the legend D’Angelo. It is a song that still burns for us two months later. Then, he came back in February with “KARMA” featuring fellow labelmate Isaiah Rashad. It was about staring down their mistakes and dealing with the consequences to follow.

Both of these personal tracks certainly did an excellent job at promoting SiR’s long-awaited project HEAVY. This is the R&B veteran’s first record since 2019’s Chasing Summer which boasted hits like “Hair Down,” “John Redcorn,” and “You Can’t Save Me.” In a recent interview with That Good Sh*t, SiR talked about the meaning behind HEAVY. “What I’m talking about is the heaviest. Yeah I mean it’s the truth, on steroids,” he explains.

Listen To HEAVY By SiR

“People need to hear it I think. As much as it might hurt or as much as it might take you somewhere you don’t want to be, it’s what you need,” SiR adds. You are going to get a HEAVY dosage of those messages across the record, and they are rewarding experiences. The production is rich, lush, beautiful and hard-hitting. SiR is bringing dynamic performances as well and so far we are enjoying tracks like “I’M NOT PERFECT,” “SIX WHOLE DAYS,” and “YOU.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, HEAVY, by SiR? Is this his best project to date, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? Is the strongest TDE release this year, why or why not? Who had the best guest performance on the record? 5 Things We Want On Jay Rock’s Next Album

Top Dawg Entertainment’s packed release schedule for 2024 is officially underway, with a new album from ScHoolboy Q arriving this week. Last month, the label teased a list of artists on their roster expected to drop albums this year. In addition to ScHoolboy Q’s Blue Lips, fans can hope for new projects from the likes of SZA, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, Ab-Soul, and Doechii, as well as a TDE compilation. There is also Jay Rock, the label’s very first signee who has not released a new album in nearly six years.

Outside of ScHoolboy Q, Rock’s album is arguably the most anticipated. 2018’s Redemption marks his longest gap between releases, and expectations have continued to rise with each of the four singles that he shared throughout 2023. As TDE kicks off its stacked calendar of releases, here are 5 things we want on Jay Rock’s next album.

No Skips

Based on the latest singles that Jay Rock has dropped, his next album is already sounding promising. Standards may be high, but Rock has generally been consistent in delivering quality projects. Last year, he spoke to Bootleg Kev during BET Weekend, promising an album with “no skips.” “I’m tryna do an album like my last one where you ain’t gotta skip sh*t,” he expressed. Previous projects like Redemption and 90059 featured concise tracklists with runtimes of under one hour, leaving minimal room for error. This time, we are hoping that Jay Rock’s album is true to his word, containing no skips.

Sharp Lyricism

Sharp lyricism is almost guaranteed when it comes to a Jay Rock album. Fans can rely on him for skillfully crafted bars, and so can artists. In the time since Redemption, Jay Rock contributed standout verses to songs from Lil Wayne, Vince Staples, Anderson .Paak, Isaiah Rashad, and Reason. Each of these features showed Rock’s skillset has not at all diminished. Both his guest verses and latest singles signify that we can expect some top-tier lyricism from Jay Rock.

West Coast Bangers

One can always count on Jay Rock to deliver West Coast bangers on his albums. From “Hood Gone Love It” to “Tap Out,” he always brings his neighborhood of Watts into his music. Each of the singles he has released for his upcoming album has been exciting, but the most quintessentially West Coast track of the bunch is “Too Fast (Pull Over).” The Mustard-produced track features standout verses from Anderson .Paak and Latto. On the song, the three flow over a fast-paced West Coast funk beat laced with trumpet and steel drums. Judging by that song and other singles like “Still That Way,” we’re hoping for more energetic West Coast tracks.

More Moments Of Introspection

Jay Rock might be known for his aggressive delivery and tough bars, but some of his best lyrics are embedded within his most transparent songs. Songs like “Fly on the Wall,” “Broke +-,” and “Redemption” stand out on their respective albums as they see Rock at his most vulnerable. His projects usually balance upbeat gangsta rap songs with poetic moments of introspection, as well as plenty of storytelling. With those expectations in mind, let’s hope that Jay Rock provides some more smooth and reflective songs on his next album.

Black Hippy Feature

With most of the TDE roster slated to release albums this year, fans are optimistic for some of Jay Rock’s labelmates to feature on his upcoming album. More specifically, they hope for contributions from his fellow Black Hippy members, or ideally, an entire Black Hippy reunion. Jay Rock recently addressed the group’s current status on TMZ. He said that “we still doing our thing” and that every member is on good terms. However, he mentioned that “everybody’s busy” and on their own schedule in regards to doing more music. “The timing’s gotta be right,” he said.

Leaving the door open for a possible reunion, a Jay Rock album would be the perfect opportunity for Black Hippy to reconnect. Jay Rock tapped Ab-Soul for one of his album’s latest singles, “Blowfly.” While the chances of a potential reunion are unpredictable, especially with Kendrick Lamar’s departure from Top Dawg Entertainment, fans would rejoice over a Black Hippy song on Jay Rock’s next album.

Zacari Wants To Stick By His Woman’s Side On “Ocean”

Right at the start of 2024, we had a feeling that this year would be a much busier year for hip-hop/R&B music. 2023 had its fair share of highlights for sure. However, the hype was not always there, and many were banking on the mainstream to pull through. That was not the case, but things are looking better than ever for the genre. TDE is contributing heavily to the excitement, and so is Zacari.

The Bakersfield, California singer has been teasing his sophomore LP, Stereo Miracle, for nearly one year to the day. “Motions” got things in motion (pun intended) on February 10. Then, Zacari would go on to collaborate with fellow R&B singer Ty Dolla $ign for “Ave Maria” back in October. Both singles are shaping this next album to be a solid one for Zacari.

Listen To “Ocean” By Zacari

On the Genius page, the tracklist is also seemingly revealed for all to see. However, sometimes things change and they are not always accurate. Which is why “Ocean,” Zacari’s latest single, could still make the cut. The sound of the track sounds like it would fit right at home on this next LP. It has a laid-back feel with him penning a song about wanting his energy to stay with the woman he is seeing. Sort of like how the waves from the ocean crash onto the coast. He wants to keep coming back for more.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Ocean,” by Zachary? Is this the best song from the Stereo Miracle rollout? Will this be the best TDE album of 2024, why or why not? Who do you want to see on the album and why? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. SZA Delivers Label Executives Top Dawg & Punch The Billboard Visionary Award

There’s every indication that 2024 will be a huge year for Top Dawg Entertainment. Despite Kendrick Lamar moving on from the label after releasing all of his studio albums on it, they still have a stacked roster of talent. Earlier this week during a special 10th anniversary show for Isaiah Rashad’s Cilvia Demo a document they passed out made the rounds online. The document claimed that new projects were coming out from nearly every single artist on the label. It even included projects from three brand-new artists, though their names were blacked out.

Only two of the albums they’ve confirmed are currently known about. The first is SZA’s which many fans suspect is her previously announced SOS deluxe edition LANA. Earlier this week, Schoolboy Q announced his new album Blue Lips which drops in early March. It’s his first studio album since 2019’s Crash Talk. Other big TDE artists like Doechii, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and more are also expected to drop new projects this year. During a ceremony earlier this week, SZA paid tribute to the label’s founders who set up the potential for all of this in the first place.

SZA Gives Top Dawg And Punch A Visionary Award

Top Dawg and Punch, who founded Top Dawg Entertainment in 2004, are the newest recipients of the Billboard Visionary Award. For the presentation they got one of the label’s defining artists, SZA, to give a speech and she didn’t disappoint. “I was just talking to Punch the other day about how much vision he had to have to see what he saw in me with no credentials,” she began.

“I really was looking insane and behaving insane and refused writers and all these things, and he believed in me. People would come to him and tell him he should change how I look, or I should be doing these kind of beats or working with these writers, and he didn’t change a single thing about me,” her speech continued. What do you think of SZA’s speech while giving an award to Punch and Top Dawg? What new TDE release are you most excited for this year? Let us know in the comment section below.

SZA Joins Isaiah Rashad On Stage During His “Cilvia Demo” Anniversary Show

Earlier this week, Isaiah Rashad and Top Dawg Entertainment celebrated the 10th anniversary of Cilvia Demo. Rashad’s debut EP has been a fan favorite since it first came out and in honor of the record turning 10 a special anniversary show was put on. It took place at The Wiltern in Los Angeles earlier this week. Though the show was occupied by Rashad fans it ended up taking on an entirely new meaning for all Top Dawg Entertainment fans.

Unsurprisingly, some of his label mates like Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q appear on the project. SZA also appears on the project lending her vocals to both “Ronnie Drake” and “West Savannah.” But when she joined Rashad on stage during the anniversary show for a duet, they took on an entirely different song. Together they performed “Heavenly Father.” It’s the most popular song on the project sporting more than 80 million streams on Spotify. Check out the video of the duo performing below.

SZA And Isaiah Rashad Performing “Heavenly Father”

The show wasn’t noteworthy just for their performance though. A document that was reportedly handed out during the event made the rounds online earlier today. It was a list of planned released on the Top Dawg Entertainment label for 2024. Nearly every single artist on the label supposedly has a project coming up soon. It includes SZA, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Doechii, and more. The paper also includes three entirely new artists though who they specifically are is blacked out.

Many fans have speculated that the SZA project listed on the document is LANA. She announced the deluxe edition of her 2022 album SOS last month. Though she’s repeatedly teased the project information on it is pretty scant. Many fans are anticipating any possible news about who she may be collaborating with on the upcoming deluxe edition. What do you think of SZA joining Isaiah Rashad on stage for his Cilvia Demo 10th anniversary show? Let us know in the comment section below.
