Kanye West’s Upcoming Documentary, ‘Jeen-Yuhs,’ Is Coming Soon To Netflix

This year has been unusually active for Kanye West. The rapper released his tenth solo album, Donda, last month, and it predictably topped the charts, making it his tenth consecutive project to do so. But he’s spent most of his time in the public eye trying to avoid it, including wearing ski masks when out and about. But thanks to an upcoming Netflix documentary, fans will finally get a new look at the vast and eclectic scope of his brilliant career.

A trailer for the film, which is titled Jeen-Yuhs, was shared on Saturday and the clip shows West and Mos Def rapping the words to their 2004 collaboration, “Two Words,” from the former’s debut album College Droput.

Jeen-Yuhs is directed by Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah, a duo better known as Coodie And Chike. The documentary will be released in three parts, tracing its subject as he rose from a hot producer and aspiring rapper to one of the biggest and most influential artists of today. According to Variety, the film will also touch on West’s failed 2020 presidential run and the tragic death of his mother Donda West, who passed in 2007.

Kanye West Is Working On A Playlist Of Unreleased Music

Kanye West created a lot of hype before releasing Donda one of the most successful album releases of the year. The Chicago rapper isn’t backing down anytime soon and may drop a playlist of unreleased music. Kanye West Buys A Boxy Beachfront Malibu Mansion For Nearly $60 Million

Kanye West’s most recent real-estate-related antics might have daunted any agent looking to make a sale, given his penchant for pyrotechnics. But the incendiary producer won’t be burning down his latest purchase, a boxy beachfront mansion in Malibu — especially with the price tag he just paid: $60 million. The home, which Kanye just bought according to TMZ, was designed by a noted Japanese architect, Tadao Ando, and was on the market for $75 million. Kanye ultimately got a break on the price, finally paying “just” $57.3 million.

He likely got such a break because the house had been listed since May of 2020 because it was only attractive “to a very specific buyer.” At just 4,000 square feet and constructed of mostly concrete and reinforced steel, it’s easy to see why. However, it also has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms with a patio that leads straight down to the beach, so there’s some charm — which Mr. West intuited. He also likely took into account its relative proximity to Kim Kardashian’s home in Hidden Hills, where his soon-to-be ex-wife and kids live. Kanye is also reportedly a big fan of the designer — much like how his album materials for prior albums like Graduation were inspired by Takashi Murakami.

Kanye West Shows Images Of His Late Mother In The Video For ‘Donda Chant’

It’s been about a month since Kanye West’s finally released his tenth album, Donda, which arrived after multiple pump fakes, including three listening sessions and numerous un-met release dates. Now West has taken to Instagram to unveil a new video for “Donda Chant,” the album’s big opener. It finds the rapper using clips from the Chicago listening event for the album as well as images of his late mother, who died in 2007.

The video arrives after Mike Dean shared an interesting tidbit about the creative process behind Donda. “Kanye had three listening parties, so each listening party was like a test, kind of,” he said during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “And after each one, I think he wanted… I can’t talk too much about his process. He took all the information he got from everyone — including online reviews, personal friends’ reviews — and he just kind of digested it all and adjusted the album the way he wants.”

In addition to “Donda Chant,” Kanye has also released videos for “24” and “Come To Life.” Donda also became the rapper’s tenth No. 1 album, making him one of eight artists to do this.

Kanye West Ascends To Heaven In His Gospel-Inflected ’24’ Video

Kanye West’s fascination with the afterlife forms the basis of his latest Donda video, “24.” The video appears to be an excerpt from Kanye’s third listening event for the album at Chicago’s Soldier Field, during which he simulated his ascension to heaven as his late mom (for whom the album is titled) watches on beatifically.

It’s only the second video to emerge from the album’s lengthy, chaotic rollout, after “Come To Life” also made use of a part of the Chicago listening in which Kanye was literally set on fire. And while the spectacle of his listening events and the hype for the album was enough to lift the project to the top of the Billboard albums chart, it certainly had its shortcomings, detractors, and downfalls, as collaborators like Soulja Boy and Todd Rundgren criticized the recording process (as well as its final result), Drake allegedly trolled Kanye by leaking his Andre 3000 collaboration (disappointing both Andre and Tyler The Creator in the process), and Drake’s Certified Lover Boy out-streamed Donda on its way to replacing it atop the Billboard 200. With all the drama swirling around the album, perhaps releasing more videos will return focus back to the music.
