Metro Boomin Claims He Has “Love And Respect” For Drake After Feud

Metro Boomin was the architect of 2024’s biggest hip hop story. He was the one who got Kendrick Lamar to appear on his joint single with Future, “Like That.” The reverberations of that diss track will be felt for years to come. Metro Boomin effectively kicked off the war against Drake. He even dropped his own diss instrumental with “BBL Drizzy.” Things have cooled off since Kendrick Lamar went scorched Earth with “Not Like Us,” and the producer has been given some time to reflect on the feud. He talked about his feelings on the matter during the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit.

Metro Boomin was asked about the Drake and Kendrick Lamar situation by the moderator. He clarified that he does not have any ill will towards the artists involved. Drake included. “I have love and respect for all my collaborators,” he asserted. “I just want to see everybody do their best and continue to help push this forward.” The “this” he referred to is the genre of hip hop. Metro Boomin noted that competition is good for the genre, and that the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle brought out the best in both artists.

Metro Boomin Believes Competition Is Good For Hip Hop

“You’re supposed to feel like you’re the best,” the producer noted. “With two of the top dogs in the game and you both feel like you’re the best… we gotta have a showdown.” The competition was something the producer likened to the JAY-Z and Nas battle from 2001. The way the fans consumed the battle, though, was another story. Metro Boomin felt like the fans took things too seriously, and resorted to picking sides instead of enjoying the talent displayed on both sides. “It’s more like Stan culture,” he noted. “It makes it kind of weird.”

Both Metro Boomin and Drake did his fair share of trolling on social media, to be fair. Metro produced the aforementioned “BBL Drizzy” beat and dropped it on SoundCloud. He also started a challenge in which he encouraged independent artists to diss Drake over the beat. One could argue the producer is being hypocritcal, but his point stands. “The internet just makes it a little too wild,” he added. It’s nice to know Metro Boomin still appreciates Drake as an artist, even if the chances of them linking up for a collab are slim to none.

Trial of Young Dolph’s Murder Kicks Off With Viral Security Footage And Wild Revelations

IMG 8952

Here we go again… The murder trial for the killing of rapper Young Dolph has officially begun, with Hernandez Govan, Justin Johnson, and Cornelius Smith—the three men charged in the case—appearing in court on Monday.

Get this, the trial opened with security footage showing the moment Young Dolph was fatally ambushed. The Memphis rapper, who was 26 at the time, was attacked and gunned down after stopping at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies by a group of gunmen.

Check it out on X:

Oh but it gets deep. During opening statements, Shelby County Assistant District Attorney Paul Hagerman accused Big Jook, the former second-in-command at CMG, of orchestrating a $100,000 contract to have Young Dolph killed. “Big Jook, the person I told you about before, the number two guy at CMG, he’s put out a hit, a hit, $100,000 to whoever kills Dolph,” Hagerman stated, according to a report by Fox 13’s Jeremy Pierre. He further claimed, “He has met with Justin (Johnson). He has met with Cornelius (Smith), and they think they’re ready to do it.”

What’s more, Hagerman also suggested that Johnson’s motivation went beyond financial gain, alleging he sought to become the next major artist on Yo Gotti’s record label, CMG. This assertion has introduced further complexity to the case, with more evidence and testimony expected as the trial progresses.

As expected, the release of the security footage depicting Young Dolph’s murder has gone viral, adding to the heightened public scrutiny surrounding the trial.

Hopefully this trial is over quickly and justice is served for Young Dolph.

Kanye West Shares IG Snippet Of Soulful New Single “Preacher Man”

Kanye West needs a comeback. Not a 2010, said a mean comment about Taylor Swift comeback, either. The rapper has fallen off musically in addition to the controversy that he’s generated in recent years. He needs to refocus, and prove to the fans that he still has what it takes to drop meaningful music. Which is why the snippet he dropped on September 23 was so encouraging. Kanye West uploaded a video of him chopping up a previously unreleased beat with the caption “Producer Man.” The beat in question is said to be for West’s upcoming single, “Preacher Man.”

Few producers have displayed more mastery over the soul chop than Kanye West. He pioneered the Chipmunk Soul sound in the early 2000s, and has proven adept at pretty much every style of hip hop that’s ever existed. The beat for “Preacher Man” seemingly brings things back to basics. Kanye West chops up an R&B sample using a keyboard. His face isn’t visible in the video, but the camera is fixed on his hands as he works the keys. The sample source is hard to make out, but the catchiness of the chop is undeniable.

Kanye West Chopped Up A Beat In Real Time

The Instagram teaser is the latest in a string of encouraging signs regarding Kanye West’s new direction. It was alleged that the rapper was pleased with the reception to his recent performance in Korea. He was so inspired, in fact, that he reportedly decided to start work on a new album. He teased “Preacher Man” as a new single a few weeks later. It’s worth noting that Kanye West has yet to drop the third part in his VULTURES trilogy with Ty Dolla Sign. The rollout for the first two have been absolute disasters, from an artistic and PR standpoint.

That said, Ty Dolla Sign recently confirmed that VULTURES 3 is on the way. The R&B singer took to IG on announce that “V3 bouta rip heads off.” One can only hope that more care and time is put into the album than its predecessors. Kanye West hasn’t commented on the status of the upcoming VULTURES 3 or the rumored solo album, but the fact that he’s putting focused effort into “Preacher Man” as a new song is a sign that things are moving in a positive direction. Here’s hoping it continues.

T.I. and Tiny Harris Win Win $71 Million Jury Award in O.M.G. Dolls Civil Case

IMG 8948

Looks like somebody else named Harris is winning big . Clifford “T.I.” Harris and Tameka “Tiny” Harris have secured a major legal victory in their lawsuit against MGA Entertainment, the company behind the O.M.G. Dolls.

Like lotto big.

How much though. Well, a California federal jury awarded the couple nearly $71 million, concluding that MGA misappropriated the name, likeness, and identity of the OMG Girlz, a pop group co-owned by T.I.

The merits of the case lead a jury to determine that seven of MGA’s O.M.G. Dolls had infringed on the trade dress and distinctive style of the OMG Girlz, known for their bold, vibrant look that resonated with fans. This outcome is especially significant, as T.I. and Tiny had previously lost a jury trial in May 2023. The new verdict, after a heated legal battle, marks a turnaround in their favor.

Get this, the jury deliberated for only six hours over two days, and found that MGA’s infringement was “willful” and committed with “malice, oppression, or fraud.” This finding led to a substantial increase in the damages awarded. The initial sum of $17.8 million was augmented by $53 million in punitive damages, bringing the total to $70.8 million.

For T.I. and Tiny, who are probably grinning ear to ear, the case represented more than just financial compensation—it was about protecting their brand and defending the rights of Black artists. “This is a victory not just for us, but for every artist who has had their work taken without permission,” T.I. stated after the ruling.

What’s more, the Harrises’ legal win sets a powerful precedent in the fight against intellectual property theft and underscores their commitment to safeguarding the creative contributions of the OMG Girlz and other artists in the industry.

Somebody give their lawyers a bit more than their contingency fee. They earned it.

It gets even more interesting. He also mentioned having ADHD and autism, and told the court, “I don’t remember, I just be talking… do your research on me before y’all tried to put me in the integration whatever it is.”

What’s more, throughout the proceedings, Zachary repeatedly responded, “I don’t know” when asked about retaliatory shootings in 2015, which the prosecution is trying to link to the alleged YSL gang. Assistant Chief District Attorney Adrianne Love expressed frustration, saying Zachary’s failure to recall information appeared intentional to hinder the state’s case.

But check this out, Zachary’s attorney, Dennis Scheib, stated that his client suffers from severe sickle cell disease, which has required frequent hospital visits and blood transfusions. Despite these claims, a doctor cleared Zachary to testify.

ICYMI, Zachary’s name has surfaced repeatedly in the trial, with testimony linking him to a 2015 drive-by shooting involving another alleged YSL member. Daylyt And J Cole Dazzle On Dense New Single “A Plate Of Collard Greens”

Daylyt and J Cole have got wordplay for days. The two rappers were absolutely spectacular on the song “Pi” from Cole’s last album. There were teases of additional songs between them, but nothing could’ve prepared fans for the surprise release of “A Plate of Collard Greens.” The duo decided to drop the new track on Monday with no fanfare, and let the bars speak for themselves. Unsurprisingly, they do. Daylyt and J Cole prove to be as slick as ever over a soulful instrumental loop. Musically, there isn’t a lot going on throughout “A Plate of Collard Greens.”

It proves to be a smart decision, though, because the rhyme schemes and double entendres steal the show. Daylyt and J Cole are exceptional rappers on their own, but there seems to be a special energy that arises whenever they are in the studio together. They raise each other’s game, which is definitely what happens here. Daylyt kicks things off with a stream of consciousness flow that’s packed tight with rhymes yet is still coherent. J Cole picks up the baton during the second half of the song and keeps the pace going strong. It’s the best J Cole verse since his ill-advised apology to Kendrick Lamar during the “Big Three” beef. Given that his new album is reportedly on its way, it’s a welcome change of pace.

Two Men Convicted Of PnB Rock’s Murder Have Been Sentenced By A Los Angeles Judge

September 12, 2024, marked the second death anniversary of the late rapper PnB Rock. Back in August, two men alleged to have been involved with the “Zaza” rapper’s tragic death were found guilty of murder, robbery, and conspiracy. Now, according to TMZ, each have formally been sentenced.

The outlet reports that Freddie Trone was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison. Trone’s sentencing factors in his one count of murder, two counts of robbery, and one of conspiracy conviction. Trone allegedly spearheaded the fatal shooting, provided his then armed his 17-year-old son with a gun, and sent him into the restaurant where PnB Rock was to rob him. While Tremont Jones received a sentence of 12 years after being found guilty of two counts of robbery and one of conspiracy for altering Trone to PnB Rock’s location.

Sadly, this devastating fight for justice isn’t quite over yet for PnB Rock’s family. In July, Trone’s son, the last suspect allegedly involved in the shooting reportedly lacked competency to stand trial.

Stephanie Sibounheuang, PnB Rock’s girlfriend, witnessed the heartbreaking incident. Weeks after his death, penned a note on Instagram about the ordeal, writing: “I am 100% not ok… It takes so much prayer and spiritual therapy to gain the strength to do the simple things in life now… I will never understand a loss so close. I feel so empty. My world is dark now. My heart is broken for the kids.”

Meek Mill Downplays Diddy Connection By Claiming “Something Ain’t Right”

It’s not a good time to be linked to Diddy. The Bad Boy mogul is the most reviled person in music at the moment. He’s been charged with sex trafficking and racketeering, and is facing a possible life sentence in prison if convicted. Meek Mill had an especially close relationship with Diddy in the years leading up to the latter’s downfall. The two artists were even seen wearing matching outfits at various events. Meek is trying to create distance between himself and the so-called “Diddler,” however. We can’t say we blame him.

Meek Mill took to Twitter on September 23 to downplay his closeness with Diddy. He went as far as to claim that he wanted to launch an investigation. The implication being that his association with the Bad Boy mogul is something that has been largely fabricated. “I wanna hire an investigative team 100k cash,” he tweeted. “To find out every specific detail involving meek mill name to ‘Diddy’ Case.” Meek Mill then suggested that the powers that be are trying to take him down by connecting him to the man formerly known as Puff Daddy. “I also want them to look at who is powering the media,” the rapper explained. “Involving ‘Meek’ anything to do with buddy.”

Meek Mill Wants To Launch A $100K Investigation

Meek Mill is not the most cogent tweeter, but he did end things on a pointedly ominous note. He simply wrote “something not right.” He included the phrase in quotes, as though he was quoting someone else. Minutes later, the rapper doubled down on his request. “Again, I got 100k for a thorough investigation of who’s powering and how exactly my name connect to this,” he wrote. Meek Mill also took the additional space afforded him to assert that he’s not involved in any of Diddy’s alleged criminal behavior. “Streets know wassup with me thats not the case,” Meek asserted. “We talking about business side, somebody powering these bad campaigns.”

Meek Mill’s assertions did not do much to dissuade fans. The rapper has been photographed with Diddy in countless social situations over the years. There was also reference to a Philadelphia rapper who dated Nicki Minaj in court documents involving Diddy back in March. The specificity of these identifiers point to Meek Mill, but the rapper insisted it wasn’t him. He fired back at fans on Twitter by claiming he was not in Diddy’s company during the specific dates cited in the documents. Time will eventually prove whether he is telling the truth.
