In a surprising announcement, Gervonta “Tank” Davis has announced that he plans to leave the boxing world behind, signaling the end of his career after 2025.

The shocking revelation came during a press conference on Tuesday (Dec. 2) ahead of his upcoming WBA Lightweight title defense, the undefeated champion didn’t hold back about his feelings toward the sport.

“After next year, I’m out of it,” Davis said. “Yeah, out of this sport… Sht’s trash. This sht is trash, garbage. Fed up. I’m fed up with the whole sh*t… I just want to be able to make money and stay out the way, that’s it. I want to be living without being seen.”

As you probably know Davis, is a force in the ring who boasts a flawless 30-0 record with 28 knockouts, revealed plans to fight three more times before retiring. However, he hasn’t fought more than twice in a single year since 2019, leaving fans curious about how he’ll achieve that goal.

Get this, when asked if one of his final opponents might include WBC Lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, Davis quickly dismissed the idea. “For what? What has Shakur done?” he questioned. “What has he done in the sport? He hasn’t done nothing. Keyshawn Davis is looking way better than him, and Keyshawn hasn’t even done nothing. I’m afraid of what? For us fighters to be afraid of someone, it has to be someone who’s hitting us and hurting us. [Stevenson] doesn’t have no offense, everything is defense. Defense only wins in basketball and football. That sh*t don’t win in boxing.”

ICYMI, Tank’s last fight was in July when he successfully defended his title against Frank Martin with an eighth-round knockout. The victory kept Davis’ record unblemished, handing Martin the first loss of his career (18-1). As Davis prepares for his March 1 title defense against Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center, fans will be watching closely, knowing his time in the ring is nearing its end.

LeBron James remarkable longevity and historic 20th consecutive All-NBA selection last season might have set the bar impossibly high, even for the King. Still, his recent struggles have sparked conversation about whether Father Time is finally catching up.

The agist chatter hit a peak after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 109-80 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday. James had one of the worst performances of his career, scoring just 10 points on 4-for-16 shooting, including 0-for-4 from three-point range. He added eight rebounds, four assists, and six turnovers. It wasn’t until a late-game free throw that James extended his streak of scoring at least 10 points to an NBA-record 1,243 games, a run that dates back to January 2007.

When it comes to the NBA peanut gallery, Kendrick Perkins summed up the situation with a nostalgic analogy. “A car running perfectly can fall apart after it hits 100k miles. Age 40 might be his 100K. I mean, at least that’s what my grandfather told me when his Oldsmobile stopped running,” Perkins wrote on social media.

Now get this, it is valid that James is in a shooting slump. Over his last six games, he’s made just 43 of 108 field-goal attempts, including a shocking 3-for-30 from beyond the arc. He’s missed 19 consecutive three-pointers over the past four games and is averaging 16.8 points during this stretch. “It’s the rhythm. I just feel off rhythm the last few, three or four games,” James admitted to reporters.

But it’s not just LeBron— the Lakers as a whole are struggling. In their last six games, they’ve gone 2-4 with a dismal offensive rating of 102.4 points per 100 possessions. That’s barely better than the rebuilding Washington Wizards.

But LeBron out is averaging 22 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game this season—numbers matched only by reigning MVP Nikola Jokic. And let’s not forget, just four months ago, James led Team USA to gold at the Paris Olympics, earning MVP honors in the process. This season alone, he’s racked up 12 double-doubles and six triple-doubles, even setting the record as the oldest player in NBA history to post a 30-point triple-double.

And before you hit the panic button, LeBron’s skills haven’t disappeared—they’re just being put to the test by a grueling schedule and the realities of age. Perkins’ analogy about old cars might be outdated, though. Modern cars run well past 100,000 miles with a little maintenance. The same could apply to James, who may benefit from the occasional game off to keep himself in peak form.

What’s more, LeBron has expressed a desire to play all 82 games this season, and so far, he’s suited up for all 21. But his dominant Olympic showing came under a schedule that didn’t include back-to-backs or multiple games every other day. Lakers coach JJ Redick and the team might need to reconsider their approach to maximize what James can still bring to the court.

Well we knew this was coming. Jake Paul’s team has responded to allegations that his victory over boxing legend Mike Tyson was rigged, calling the accusations baseless and nonsensical. Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the organization behind Paul’s boxing ventures, issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter addressing the claims.

“It is further illogical and inane that MVP, in the debut of a hopeful long-term partnership with the world’s biggest streamer—an organization that made its first-ever foray into live professional sports with Paul vs. Tyson—would even so much as consider such a perverse violation of the rules of competition,” the statement read.

Is it really though? Let’s unpack a bit more …

Earlier this month, Jake Paul faced off against the former undisputed world heavyweight champion in a highly publicized and officially sanctioned boxing match streamed on Netflix. Despite technical streaming issues that frustrated some viewers, the event broke records for attendance and viewership. Paul ultimately won the fight by unanimous decision.

Following the fight, sports commentator and former NFL star Michael Irvin appeared on Cam’Ron and Mase’s It Is What It Is talk show, expressing skepticism about the bout’s legitimacy.

“That fight was a lie,” Irvin claimed. “Everybody’s lying […] they had no intentions to really strap it on. If you look through that, I didn’t see one patented uppercut by Mike Tyson. What did Mike Tyson win on? Uppercut.”

We all saw it. What do ya’ll think? Was it a lie or a real “sanctioned” fight?

He went on to allege that Tyson’s signature move had been intentionally omitted from the match. “I heard some people talking about they couldn’t put [Mike Tyson’s uppercut] in the contract,” Irvin said. “He couldn’t body and then uppercut. Like, how can you put that in a fight contract?”

Now if that was remotely true, wow. But where is the evidence?

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, dismissed the rigging claims as another unfounded attempt to undermine Paul’s achievements.

“This is not the first time Jake Paul has faced unfounded skepticism or outright disbelief as a professional athlete, and frankly, the claim that his bout must have been rigged is just the latest backhanded compliment to come his way,” Bidarian told The Hollywood Reporter.

Skeptics are going to be skeptical. Sometimes there’s merit to wild claims and sometimes claims are not so wild when you think about it.

He further emphasized the significance of the event’s success, stating, “This event, which broke attendance and viewership milestones for a professional sporting event, is yet another example of his ability to deliver on the biggest stage. As long as Jake continues to exceed expectations, there will always be those who try to discredit his achievements. We embrace the doubt—it only fuels Jake to work harder and achieve greater success.”

Barely a contest. That’s how we will sum yesterday’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the visiting Philadelphia Eagles.

LA had a big opportunity heading into their face off against the Eagles. A needed win would have positioned them in a tie atop the NFC West. Instead, the Rams faltered, suffering a crushing 37-20 defeat at the hands of the Eagles, powered by Saquon Barkley’s record-setting performance.

As for the Eagles (9-2), they are red hot and extended their winning streak to seven games, solidifying their control over the NFC East. With this victory and the Washington Commanders’ wild loss to the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the day, the Eagles now hold a commanding two-and-a-half-game lead in the division with six weeks remaining in the regular season. The team also remains firmly in contention for the NFC’s top playoff seed, trailing only the Detroit Lions (10-1).

Get this, Barkley’s spectacular performance not only secured the Eagles’ win but also bolstered his case for NFL MVP, an award typically dominated by quarterbacks. The star running back rushed for a career-high 255 yards, the ninth-best single-game total in league history, and scored two long touchdowns.

But there’s more, Barkley’s second 70-plus yard touchdown run of the game — a 72-yard dash late in the fourth quarter — sealed the Eagles’ victory and marked a fitting end to his career night. His explosive plays proved too much for the Rams to overcome, leaving fans and analysts alike in awe of his talent.

On any given Sunday a loss is tough but for the Rams now (5-6), the “L” was a significant setback. With the Seattle Seahawks’ win over the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the day, both teams improved to 6-5, leaving the Rams in third place in the NFC West. What could have been a step toward first place instead became a missed opportunity. Now, the Rams must fight to remain in playoff contention, with crucial divisional matchups against the Cardinals in Week 17 and the Seahawks in Week 18 looming on the horizon.
