Russ Explains How He Spent A Million Dollars On His Ed Sheeran Collab, ‘Are You Entertained’

As long as he’s been in the rap business, Russ has been about sharing the secrets of his success with fans and other aspiring artists. While that sometimes takes the form of preachy-sounding lectures on social media or interviews that can rub his intended audience the right way, he’s been getting better at softening his delivery, making sure that the message isn’t getting lost in the tone. In addition to starting his own, artist-friendly label, he seems to have found his niche thanks to TikTok, where he can speak directly to his fans, answering their questions in videos that offer more context.

A great example recently found its way to Twitter. In the video, Russ responds to a fan’s comment in a previous video asking how and why he spent $1 million on his new single, “Are You Entertained” with Ed Sheeran. In typical Russ fashion, he goes into detail, but this time, he’s sure he’s giving the right information to the right people, sounding confident instead of condescending. Offering a disclaimer, he made sure to note that “I’ve had songs go multi-platinum that I’ve spent zero dollars on and I’ve had songs do nothing that I’ve spent hundreds of thousands on. It’s not as simple as, ‘Oh, if you just spend money, the song does well.’ If that was the case, then there would be no flops.”

But on to the nitty-gritty: “Basically, I spent about $300K on the music video,” he recalls. “We shot it in London, [so] it was a whole big production. Then, I spent a little over $700K on marketing, which is like: I did Spotify marquee campaigns, radio, social media ads, [and] billboards overseas.” So, there you have it, an explanation of how much it costs to promote a new song, and a warning: It takes a lot more than money. Russ knows this, but luckily for his fans, he wants them to know it too. Check out the video below.

Burna Boy And Ed Sheeran Ascend The Highs Of Love In Their Romantic ‘For My Hand’ Video

Burna Boy enlists the help of Ed Sheeran for his latest video “For My Hand.” The duo harmonizes in an elevator about how they want to dance with their lovers forever before they stand atop New York City and Burna Boy himself even becomes immersed among the clouds. The romantic record is punctuated by a dancing couple in the elevator who just can’t seem to keep their hands off of one another.

It is an exciting time for Burna Boy as the video for “For My Hand” arrives alongside his sixth studio album Love, Damini. Love was originally supposed to arrive on July 2 but was pushed back a week. Despite the delay, the music is well worth the wait as the 19-song tracklist boasts features from Khalid, Kehlani, Blxst, Popcaan, J Hus, J. Balvin, and more. The 31-year-old’s single “Last Last” is extremely popular both culturally and commercially, likely finding its way into his canon along with his previous hits “Ye” and “On The Low” in addition to his major collaborations “Location” with Dave, “Be Honest” with Jorja Smith, “Ginger” with Wizkid, and the remix to Pop Smoke’s “Enjoy Yourself.”

Listeners waited almost two years for this Burna Boy LP after the August 2020 release Twice As Tall which quickly followed his massive 2019 sensation African Giant. Needless to say, Burna Boy has been living up to the titles of his last two albums and soundtracking the summertime. It will be interesting to see how Love, Damini measures up. “For My Hand” is definitely a strong start.

Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, And Joe Biden Will Appear On Upcoming ‘Corden’ Episodes From London

With James Corden announcing in April that he will be leaving The Late Late Show in 2023, the talk show host is pulling out all the stops in his final season. For a slate of episodes filmed in the UK that will air next week, guests on the show include Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, and President Joe Biden (as Variety notes). The shows will be broadcast from London’s Freemason’s Hall and these aren’t just your typical “sit down and chat” type of appearances for the illustrious guests.

For his “Take A Break” segment, Corden is going to fill in as an assistant of sorts to Biden, Lizzo is set to do a new “Carpool Karaoke” segment, and hilarity will surely ensue. Other guests on the upcoming slate of episodes include Star Wars actor John Boyega, singers Sam Smith and Alanis Morissette, Thor’s Tessa Thompson, David Harbour from Stranger Things, and Vin freakin’ Diesel.

It’s all set to air from Tuesday, June 28th to Friday, July 1st in its normal 12:37 a.m. timeslot on CBS (or on the Sky Comedy channel if you find yourself in the UK).
