Doja Cat Lands Her First Multi-Week No. 1 Hit As ‘Paint The Town Red’ Returns To The Top Of The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated October 7, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Dua Lipa — “Dance The Night”

Lipa may have moved on to new movie project (the Argylle trailer just dropped last week), but her Barbie hit still has legs as it rounds out this week’s top 10.

9. Rema and Selena Gomez — “Calm Down”

Rema and Selena find themselves back in the top 10 this week after spending last week at No. 11. The song is also killing it on the US Afrobeats chart, where it’s No. 1 for a record-extending 57th week.

8. Gunna — “F*kumean”

In addition to “F*kumean” sticking around in the top 10, Gunna also recently put on a heck of a show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, as Uproxx’s Wongo Okon notes.

7. Olivia Rodrigo — “Vampire”

After returning to No. 1 recently, “Vampire” is sitting comfortably at No. 7, the same position as last week.

6. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

“Last Night” just won’t go away: It was No. 8 last week, but now the 16-week No. 1 hit rises slightly to No. 6.

5. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

After debuting at No. 1 four weeks ago, Bryan and Musgraves hold steady at No. 5, while the song is No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts for a fifth week.

4. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

After reaching as high as No. 3 and living at No. 6 last week, Swift’s “Cruel Summer” returns to the top 5 at No. 4, which is pretty good for a song that originally came out in 2019.

3. Luke Combs — “Fast Car”

Combs’ Tracy Chapman cover continues to be a consistent top-10 presence on the Hot 100 as it spends its second week at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

2. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” was No. 3 last week, and while it didn’t claim the top spot, it did reach a new high at No. 2 this week.

1. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

“Paint The Town Red” previously spent a single week back at No. 1, but after a spell away, the song is back on top, making it Doja’s first song to spend multiple weeks at No. 1.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Doja Cat Showed Off A New Devil Painting That She Made Just For Her Fans

Undeterred by fans’ criticism, Doja Cat has continued to lean into the impish imagery of her Scarlet rollout as she promotes the album in the wake of its release. After her wealth of new tattoos got labeled demonic by fans, Doja doubled down, mocking listeners for accusing her of Satanism on multiple Scarlet tracks, including “Skull And Bones.”

But she’s clearly reveling in the attention (heh), since she continues to delve into devilish depictions of her Scarlet alter ego. As HipHopDX noted, over the weekend, she shared a photo on Instagram of a painting she created during a fan event. “painting for people is funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn,” she wrote in the caption. The painting itself — which you can see on the third, fourth, seventh, and eighth slides below, features a black, horned figure in a red field. Later additions include a sinister grin and the words “not afraid” emblazoned across the background.

Doja’s rollout hasn’t been all “Demons,” though. The video for “Agoura Hills” paints a very different picture (heh) of Doja’s interests, highlighting her past explanation that the album was created over two very different periods, resulting in a much lighter half. But it still looks like she’ll continue tweaking fans’ nerves as long as it tickles her fancy.

Doja Cat’s Victoria’s Secret World Tour Performance Includes “Ouchies” Live Debut

Famous lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret was nearly cancelled due to fatphobic comments made by those at the head of the company several years ago. They’ve since gone through some major changes just in time to reintroduce their annual fashion show to the world before 2023 ends. The event itself actually took place on September 6, as PopSugar notes. Models like Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Julia Fox were all tapped to strut down the runway. VS also recruited an impressive roster of performers, such as Doechii and Doja Cat.

From what we saw of the latter walking the red carpet, she looked as confident as ever. However, she later revealed on Instagram that the dress she wore was incredibly uncomfortable, and even left her feeling “manhandled.” Thankfully, when it was time for Doja to take the stage and showcase some songs from her Scarlet LP, she changed into different looks that allowed her to move with ease.

Doja Cat Performs “Ouchies” for the First Time

“Ouchies” was one of the titles the blonde beauty picked to debut live at the World Tour. “I don’t need another hit ’cause it’s useless, really / I ain’t lookin’ good? You hallucinatin’,” the songs braggadocious bars go. “Crusty, musty, dusty b**ches / Don’t you ever, ever in your life / Come for me,” Doja declares at the end of the track, seemingly as a message to her haters.

Elsewhere, the “Say So” singer brought her previously released “Attention” single to life. For that, she switched up her outfit in favour of a bold, red look with smokey, black eyeshadow. “Talk your s**t about me, I can easily disprove it, it’s stupid / You follow me, but you don’t really care about the music,” Doja raps on that song.

Doja Cat’s Flows And Bars Are On Point With “97” From “Scarlet”

Doja Cat has been prepping fans to get ready for her renaissance for quite some time now. She is ditching the radio-friendly sound (for the most part) and embracing a more “masculine direction,” according to Genius. She spoke with Variety about where she wanted to take this LP. “I also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny… I wasn’t trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing y’all say that i can’t so I will.” Well, how did she deliver on that promise? We would say that mostly meets those expectations.

When Doja does, she really impresses and there are plenty of examples. The lead single “Attention” is one that boasts nice flows and bars about being unapologetic for her new style and musical approach. “F*** The Girls (FTG)” is another cut that displays these same qualities. But debatably the highest lyrical point on the record is “97.”

Listen To “97” Off Of Scarlet From Doja Cat

Genius breaks down the lyrics below and there are many meanings for them. Horses is referencing the horsepower in cars and the fact that Doja is speeding suggets her car has lots of power. Medicating the horses is another way of saying she is modifying the vehicle to be even faster. However, it also means she could be intoxicated behind the wheel as horses refers to heroin. The PETA reference dates all the way back to one of her first hits, “MOOO!,” and the response she got from the organization. The animal-fur coats also plays along with it, on top of the red paint that Doja sported for the promotion of the record and her track “Paint The Town Red.” PETA activists are known to throw red paint on people wearing animal print too.

What are your initial thoughts on “97” from Scarlet by Doja Cat? Is this her best lyrical performance on the album? Is this the most underrated cut here? We want to hear what you have to say about this. So, be sure to leave all of your opinions in the comments section. Additionally, keep it locked with HNHH for all of the hottest song releases and the latest breaking news around the music world.

Quotable Lyrics:

Speedin’ through the city, we medicated the horses

Don’t forget the cheetah print, speed up, come here, record it

Doja Cat’s “Wet Vagina” Song Calls Out Kardashian Family’s “Pretty, Plastic” Faces

Due to near-constant trolling and feuding with her fans, Doja Cat had us thinking that her career was coming to an end earlier this year. Thankfully she managed to deliver her Scarlet album this past New Music Friday (September 22), complete with 17 songs and no features. It finds her exploring far different sounds than we heard of 2021’s Planet Her, such as a nod to Griselda’s distinct work on her controversial “Balut” single. Aside from her team’s incredible production, Doja also has our attention with her lyrics, some of which appear to discuss her relationship with J. Cyrus.

The “Say So” singer’s union with the embattled comedian was a major source of contention for some “Kittenz” as they came forward to share their stories of abuse with Doja. No matter what the world has to say about her man, on “Agora Hills” she makes it clear that she’s in the mood for marriage. In addition to the subliminal messages about Cyrus that appear throughout, the internet is also talking about the 27-year-old’s name-drop of the Kardashian family on “Wet Vagina.”

Doja Cat’s Scarlet Album Has Hip-Hop Heads Intrigued

“Tell me why ol’ shorty walkin’ like she got a stick in her a**?”” Doja asks on the early fan favourite track. “And pretty face, plastic, it’s givin’ Kardashian.” Of course, the famous siblings have been called out for skirting the truth around their history of plastic surgery in the past. However, recent years have seen them using their platforms more transparently, with youngest sister Kylie Jenner even recently admitting to having a breast augmentation several years ago.

Doja Cat’s bars about Kim Kardashian and her sisters may not be entirely flattering, but still, all publicity is good on some level. The mother of four has been in the spotlight a ton as we move into fall, most recently thanks to her acting performance in the latest season of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story. Read what viewers have been saying about the first episode at the link below, and check back later for more music/pop culture news updates.

Doja Cat Is All In For Her Man On “Can’t Wait” From “Scarlet”

Los Angeles rapper and singer Doja Cat’s highly-awaited project, Scarlet, is finally here. There has been so much talk around the album, as people have either been bashing her new direction, or excited for what is to come. Over the coming weeks listeners will assuredely have differing opinions on the LP. But, some are already divided with some saying it a solid listen, while others are calling it “trash” or bad. However, if you have been keeping tabs on Doja’s latest statements about her fans, there is a good chance she will not be phased by the negativity.

She took a pretty big risk on Scarlet with including no features and making a more rap-focused tape. Most people come to her music for the widespread appeal with catchy choruses and beats. While there are some tracks that fit that mold like “Paint The Town Red,” most of the material here boasts more attention on the lyrics. One of the highlights that possesses this trait is “Can’t Wait.”

Listen To “Can’t Wait” By Doja Cat From Scarlet

While it is not a tour de force, “Can’t Wait” has very touching and heartfelt passages about a deep connection. Since early June of this year, Doja has been dating comedian Jeffrey “J” Cyrus and this track appears to be about her aspirations for this relationship. Her singing and rapping on this R&B and pop centric cut is very infectious and gets you to care about the hopes that this connection will stand the test of time. While the melody might draw your attention from the beginning, the penmanship is what takes this song from good to outstanding.

What are your initial thougths on, “Can’t Wait,” from Scarlet by Doja Cat? Where does this song rank for you amongst the tracklist? Do you like when she goes into her R&B and pop bag?
