Cousin Stizz Announced The Commonwealth Fest With Buddy And Kenny Mason Beside Him As Headliners

For residents of Massachusetts, one of the main festivals they can look forward to every year is Boston Calling. Now, thanks to Cousin Stizz and friends, there’s a new festival in town and it could be around for the foreseeable future. The inaugural Commonwealth Fest was announced today by Cousin Stizz and friends and it arrived with a message from the rapper. “This MY first show back in a year too and it’s gon be one of those ones,” he wrote. “Got some homies from all over the country plus some of the best from home.. some BIG surprises comin too.”

The Commonwealth Fest, which kicks off the weekend of September 16 and 17, is headlined by Cousin Stizz himself as well as rappers Buddy and Kenny Mason. The full list of performers features names from New England that include SuperSmashBroz, Michael Christmas, Borirock, Jiles (of Van Buren Records), Alondrugs, Avenue, Kei, Clark D, Snax, Nay $peaks, Tyler Loyal, and Nino Francis. Tony Shhnnow and Jenno represent the additional performers from outside of the New England area. The Commonwealth Fest will take place at Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield, Massachusetts in a two-day showcase presented by Stay Silent, a Rhode Island-based creative platform.

You can view the festival lineup in the post above. Tickets for the Commonwealth Fest go on sale Friday, August 11 at 10 am EST through the festival’s website.

Buddy Brings The Jazzy ‘Ain’t Fair’ To ‘UPROXX Sessions’

UPROXX Sessions returns with a performance from a West Coast favorite, Buddy.

In 2018, the rapper made his major label debut with Harlan & Alondra. Fans of the Compton-born-and-bred MC went almost four years without a project until he dropped his sophomore album, Superghetto, in March this year. Although short, with features from heavy hitters like Tinashe, T-Pain, Ari Lennox, and Blxst, it’s no surprise that Buddy delivers an excellent, laid-back performance of the album’s “Ain’t Fair.”

Buddy takes the 3 minutes to detail the “lifestyle of the super ghetto fellow,” including drug use, his musings on gentrification in the hood, and exes popping back up in his life. The performance showcases Buddy’s range as he switches flows over a jazz-inspired beat and demonstrates his love for LA by wearing a tee from the Fairfax-based design collective, Brain Dead.

Watch Buddy perform “Ain’t Fair” for UPROXX Sessions above.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.

Buddy Battles The Law And His Evil Twin In The Claymation Video For ‘Bad News’

Buddy had a spotlight moment in 2018 with the release of his debut album Harlon & Alondra. It was yet another example of an excellent debut album from new artists in the 2010s that documented their experiences growing up in the West (see: Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid M.A.A.D. City, YG’s My Krazy Life, and Ty Dolla Sign’s Free TC). However, after Harlon & Alondra arrived, Buddy would go almost four years without a project before dropping his sophomore effort Superghetto earlier this year. It was a brief effort with just ten songs to its name, but in the spirit of keeping the album alive, Buddy returns with a new video for it.

Just a month after Superghetto was made available to the world, Buddy shares a new visual for “Bad News.” It’s a claymation effort that begins with a fight between a police officer and what appears to be Buddy’s love interest. Soon enough, Buddy himself is fighting a cop, but that’s not all the tussling he does for a video. The visual concludes with an unsuccessful fight between the rapper and his evil twin.

The new video arrives after Buddy announced the tour dates for Superghetto. His string of shows will begin on June 15 in Oakland, California and continue for a couple of a weeks before concluding on June 30 in Chicago, IL.

You can watch the video for “Bad News” above.

Superghetto is out now via RCA Records. You can stream it here.

Buddy Announces The Tour Dates For His New Album, ‘Superghetto’

Buddy will be joined by Houston rapper HVN and LA rapper/singer Kent Jamz, who collaborated with Buddy on their 2020 joint mixtape, Janktape Vol. 1. Buddy And Blxst Give A Laid-Back Performance Of ‘Wait Too Long’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Compton rapper Buddy’s new album, Superghetto, is out now. To celebrate and promote its release, he and fellow SoCal artist Blxst stopped by The Late Show to perform their standout from the new project, “Wait Too Long,” looking cooler than a fan in matching black-on-black ensembles.

Buddy opens the performance lounging on an armchair with a telephone — a nifty callback to the song’s music video — as Blxst croons the catchy chorus backed by a mellow groove from the duo’s band.

Superghetto is Buddy’s first new album since his 2018 debut, Harlan & Alondra. The album, which features Ari Lennox, Blxst, Tinashe, and T-Pain, clocks in at a smooth 10 tracks and features “Black 2,” “Hoochie Mama,” and “Wait Too Long” as singles.

As fans awaited the new album, Buddy delivered a string of solid guest appearances on projects like Dreamville’s Revenge Of The Dreamers III, which landed him his first platinum plaque, and Guapdad 4000’s debut album, Dior Deposits, as well as Tinashe’s latest on the single “Pasadena.” Buddy also teamed up with fellow LA area artist Kent Jamz to release a joint mixtape, Janktape, Vol. 1, spawning the single “Bad Boys.”

Watch Buddy and Blxst perform “Wait Too Long” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon above.

Superghetto is out now on RCA Records.
