Vince Staples Offers His Thoughts On Drake Releasing A Dance Album: ‘I Did That In 2017’

There’s a new Drake album out and as usual, it’s dominating the discourse online as fans parse what it means for pop culture at large. However, this time, there’s a whole new angle for that discussion, as Honestly, Nevermind eschews Drake’s usual mopey R&B and passive-aggressive raps in favor of a genre experiment in the vein of house music alongside executive producer Black Coffee. And as usual, Joe Budden has thoughts, which he shared on his podcast along with call-in guest Vince Staples.

While Joe wondered whether the album meant the elimination of rap music as a whole (because Joe Budden, again, is not a journalist and has no real frame of reference for such things), Vince’s response was more measured as he pointed out that such genre-hopping projects are nothing new in hip-hop — not even for Vince himself. “I did that in 2017,” he reminded the host. “N****s was on me… That Big Fish Theory, n****s was mad at that. ‘What’s up with this n****?’”

Vince expanded on his views (no pun intended), comparing music to Instagram: “Everything looks the same, everything moves the same, everyone dresses the same, everyone talks the same,” he explained. “So the genre sh*t is gonna have to go out the window eventually. It’s too hard to separate culture because the internet is kinda pushing everything in the same little bubble.”

He’s got a point: Besides himself, a number of artists have blended genres including dance genres like house and techno into hip-hop, with some artists distancing themselves from the “rapper” label altogether. However, the thing that hasn’t gone away is rapping as a lyrical style, and there are still plenty of artists — arguably way more of them, to be honest, who release music primarily in that mode regardless of trends. And considering some of the responses to Drake’s album, it doesn’t look like hip-hop fans were quite ready to make the switch — which didn’t stop it from topping Apple Music’s Dance chart on release day.

Basically, no rappers should be restricted solely to rapping or making music according to popular trends, but rap as a genre probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

NFL Responds To Latest Deshaun Watson Development

Deshaun Watson has been one of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason due to the 24 sexual assault lawsuits that he was facing. Now, that number has quickly dwindled to just four as he settled 20 cases today. It was a massive move for the quarterback who has been accused of sexually assaulting a multitude of massage therapists at their place of business.

In the eyes of many, these settlements should have massive implications for the NFL’s investigation into the matter. After all, the league is expected to hit him with a lengthy suspension, and some fans believe the settlements could either hurt his case or actually even improve it, depending on your logic.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the NFL has issued an official response in regards to these settlements. Simply put, the NFL will not be taking any of this into account when it comes to their upcoming ruling on the Cleveland Browns star.

The league’s investigation is completely independent of that of law enforcement, and the NFL prides itself on going its own way on these matters. With that said, Watson will have to wait before the NFL comes calling.

Stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from this case.

Hornets Renew Their Interest In Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers have not been a match made in heaven. In his first season with the team, Westbrook had a dramatic fall-off, and there isn’t much hope that he can turn things around. While Westbrook will tell you that his play boiled down to Frank Vogel’s incompetence, there are others who think new head coach Darvin Ham isn’t even enough to turn the tide.

Over the past few weeks, there has been this sense that the Lakers fully intend on keeping Westbrook. The original plan was to find a way to trade Westbrook, however, it was becoming clear that his trade value had tanked and that it would not be possible given last year’s horrendous play.

Now, a Westbrook trade could be in the cards, and it reportedly all hinges on the Charlotte Hornets. According to reporter Kevin O’Connor, the Hornets are looking to offload big long-term contracts like Gordon Hayward’s, which means they might be willing to take on Russ for at least a year. The Hornets had been suspected as a suitor for Russ, and now, those rumors are kicking back into high gear.

With the offseason beginning on June 30th, things are about to get very interesting. With that being said, stay tuned to HNHH as we will continue to bring you all of the latest updates from around the NBA world.

Twitter Reacts To Normani’s Sensual Starring Role In Chris Brown’s “WE (Warm Embrace)” Music Video

Chris Brown’s biggest fans are practically counting down the minutes to midnight on June 24th, when the father of three is due to deliver his tenth studio album, Breezy. In typical superstar fashion, Brown has been rolling out both interviews and singles ahead of his baby’s debut, recently revealing to fans that he recorded an impressive 250 songs, though only 23 of them were strong enough to make the cut.

Just a few days ago, the Virginia native teased a rhythmic collaboration with Nigerian “Essence” hitmaker WizKid in a cheeky dancing video, and we’ve since received the nearly two-and-a-half minute title, “Call Me Every Day” on DSPs.

On Tuesday, June 21st, the “Kiss Kiss” singer returned with more content, delivering a music video for “WE (Warm Embrace),” a single that Brown dropped off in the spring, on April 1st.

While fans were excited enough to receive a new Breezy visual, some were elated to find out that the 33-year-old recruited former Fifth Harmony member Normani to appear alongside him, pulling out some of her most sensual dance moves for the camera.

As typically happens when a woman in the industry affiliates herself with Brown, the “Motivation” singer has received some raised eyebrows and slaps on the wrist from fans (like Lizzo did a few months back when she linked up with the controversial R&B star).

“How can you model for Fenty and then do this?” one person pondered, bringing up Rihanna’s tumultuous past with the Indigo artist. “Chris Brown with a dark skin woman??? He beat the allegations,” someone else joked – check it all out below, and tap back in with HNHH this Friday to stream Breezy.
