Zack De La Rocha of Rage Against The Machine returned to the stage for the first time in over a year last week, joining Run The Jewels to perform their 2014 collaboration “Close Your Eyes And Count To F*ck” during RTJ’s show at the Palladium in Hollywood on Thursday. Although he finished the first handful of shows seated, it was clear that he needed to rest and rehabilitate his leg, which would be extremely difficult with the grueling schedule of a summer tour. From the video above, it does look like he’s recovered enough to stand alongside El-P and Killer Mike, and could likely perform a few full shows provided he doesn’t move around too much, but Rage fans would certainly be expecting a different level of activity. Even Tom Morello admitted he didn’t know if Rage would ever be able to tour again; even with De La Rocha fully recovered, the band’s health concerns include bassist Tim Commerford’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Fingers crossed, though. If ever there was a time we all needed some Rage Against The Machine, it’s certainly now.
Throughout the past couple of years, Offset has been through a lot. Around this time last year, Takeoff was shot and killed in a senseless incident. Overall, this event shook hip-hop to its core, and many still can’t believe it happened. Subsequently, many wanted to see Set and Quavo reconcile. However, it took months for that to actually happen. Eventually, the two performed together at the BET Awards, and it turned out to be a truly amazing moment for everyone involved.
On Friday, the rapper dropped off his brand-new album simply titled Set It Off. This is a project that he has been working on for quite some time. The album comes with features from Cardi B, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and more. Overall, there have been mixed reactions to the album. However, there is one person who loves what Set came through with. That man is Ebro, who took to Twitter to give Offset his flowers for the new body of work.
Offset was extremely appreciative of the co-sign and made sure to thank Ebro accordingly. “Thank you brother for your guidance and time… for sitting down with me being in my corner whole time… means a lot,” the rapper wrote. Ebro has been known to be quite tough on rappers in the past. However, this time around, he opted to show some well-deserved love. This is something a lot of artists don’t get enough of these days. Either way, Set It Off will continue to get some radio play over these next few weeks.

One of the more elusive artists in modern rap is none other than Lil Uzi Vert. They have been known to constantly tease new music over the course of their career. Even though they have tons of material released, the past six years have been a little different. Die-hard Lil Uzi Vert fans had to wait three painstakingly long years for Eternal Atake. However, quickly after that, they and Future teamed up for their collaboration project, Pluto x Baby Pluto. Then, Uzi went into hibernation for another three-year hiatus.
They delivered their genre-pushing record the Pink Tape to many mixed reviews. Since the release, Lil Uzi Vert promised that if their latest record went number one on the Billboard chart, a new project would come out. Well, the fans responded, as it reached that mark. Now, we are anxiously waiting yet again for either Barter 16 or Luv Is Rage 3. Uzi has already put out a possible track for the latter of the two with “NFL” a few weeks ago on YouTube.
The Philadelphia rapper could be following a similar pattern from 2020. In an Instagram post from theshaderoom shows them sending an indistinct message to the fans. Uzi says, “Was having 2 much fun these recent years and didn’t experience the feeling once felt even tho having fun is a great thing.” They continue, “My life just been put on a reset mentally and emotionally… the substance is finally back [broken heart emoji] it’s a gift and a curse.” Their supporters are expectedly confused. One sums it up, saying, “I’m . . . . Confused this is too vague to even TRY to assume if he’s referring to music or relationship and it’s to late to even care .. goodnight.”

Over the weekend, Drake scored his 13th chart-topping album. His album For All The Dogs racked up 402k sales in its first week, the 4th biggest first-week total of 2023. That was obviously good enough to debut at the top spot, and it nearly sold enough to eclipse the entire rest of the top 10 combined. On top of that, the entire 23-song tracklist of the album is expected to debut inside the top 50 of the Hot 100.
His reign of commercial dominance has also resulted in numerous broken records. While Drake doesn’t have the most number one albums among rappers, he’s getting close. With his number now officially at 13 chart-topping projects, he’s getting close to tying Jay-Z for most number-one albums among rappers of all time. According to All Hip Hop, Jay has 14 number-one projects in his illustrious career, something he’s often flaunted while flexing his successes. While the two lead the category for rappers, they’re actually second and tied for third overall. The only artist in Billboard history to top the Billboard 200 more is The Beatles who have a spectacular 19 number-one albums.
Drake has been prolifically releasing new material in the past few years. Because almost everything he touches shoots straight to number one that has rapidly lifted him up the all-time list. But if he’s going to beat Jay-Z’s record it may take some time. Following the release of For All The Dogs, Drizzy announced that he could be taking a hiatus from new music to focus on his own wellbeing.
Over the weekend, Drake’s son Adonis shared his debut freestyle. After appearing on a track from For All The Dogs with an adorable performance, he proved it was no fluke. The 6-year-old dropped his “My Man” freestyle which once again had fans calling him adorable. The now-45-year-old was born on October 14, whereas Ashanti– who was in attendance that night- turned 43 the previous Friday (October 13). As such, they just had to take advantage of the occasion and wish each other well on their special 24 hours. While onstage, both singers sang “Happy Birthday” to each other, and the crowd made sure to give it their all for the two.

Oct. 15th, 2023 marked the 10th anniversary of Dom Kennedy’s second studio album, Get Home Safely via The Other Peoples Money Company. The Futuristiks and DrewByrd served as the album’s primary producers, along with DJ Mustard, DJ Khalil, and more. It followed Kennedy’s 2011 debut, From the Westside With Love II, which established him as a major name within the LA rap scene.
While it serves as his most celebrated release to date, Get Home Safely marked a significant milestone in a thriving West Coast scene during the 2010s. It also signified a shift in a post-blog-era world where rappers could flourish independently. Today, we revisit Dom Kennedy’s Get Home Safely for its 10th anniversary.
Get Home Safely is arguably Dom Kennedy’s magnum opus. Not only does the music speak for itself, but the album’s critical and commercial success attests to its legacy. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard US Rap chart and it is also Kennedy’s highest selling album. Dom moved over 10,000 copies in the album’s first week.
Get Home Safely painted a vivid portrait of LA culture from the perspective of Dom Kenned. His cool, calm, and collected flow encapsulates the unfiltered everyday life in the City of Angels like in “Let’s Be Friends” and “After School.” Then, there are records like “Black Bentleys” that capture Dom tapping into his full songwriting potential as he reflects on the humble beginnings that shaped his career. It’s the honesty, authenticity, and pensiveness across this album that defined Kennedy’s legacy.
Ahead of its release, Dom Kennedy expressed to HipHopDX that Get Home Safely was the album he always wanted to make. He had gone on his first global tour and aspired towards “leaving a real legacy.” Ten years later, it appears that Get Home Safely did just that.
By 2013, the West Coast was experiencing a renaissance of rising talent. Los Angeles bloomed with collectives like Odd Future, TDE, and Pac Div. Meanwhile, artists like Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, and YG also helped usher in a new era for the West Coast. Like many of these emerging acts, Dom Kennedy was in his own lane, carving out his own niche while championing the West Coast. More importantly, Kennedy waved the flag for independence with The Other Peoples Money Company while many of his peers began signing with the majors.
Features on From the Westside With Love II came from all over America, but Get Home Safely was strictly a West Coast affair. Respected legends like Krondon of Strong Arm Steady appeared on the album, but it also spotlighted the wave of buzzing artists in LA’s hip-hop scene. Nipsey Hussle and Ty Dolla $ign featured on Get Home Safely; both of whom eventually became stars in their own right. Additionally, rappers Skeme and TeeFLii contributed verses, making the album a glimpse into LA rap’s bright future. On his second studio album, Dom Kennedy was at the helm of introducing the next generation of west coast hip hop. Simultaneously, he was setting an example for independent success.
Soulja Boy is a rapper who has prided himself on being the “first” to do things. Although he may not always have proof to back up his claims, he will always try to set the record straight. Overall, this is a pretty bold proclamation to make. T-Pain has been streaming on Twitch for a minute now, and most don’t really see Yachty as a streamer. In fact, everyone knows that the real GOAT of rapper Twitch streams is Soulja Boy. His Among Us streams were massive, and he let Yachty know in a new video.
Above, you can hear Soulja Boy go off on Yachty and even Drake. He declares that he is sick of these two and that he just wants proper credit for all that he has done throughout his career. Overall, Soulja is very proud of his gaming career on Twitch, and he does not want to be undermined. In fact, one could make the argument that he has been undermined his whole career. That said, it makes sense why he would want to constantly reiterated when he was the first to do something.

Regardless of that whole debate, Ice Spice still came through to impress, and ran through “In Ha Mood” with her trademark confidence.
In addition, the 23-year-old also debuted her newest single, “Pretty Girl” with Rema, who she brought onstage to join her. It’s a pretty new sound for Ice Spice, with a slightly slower tempo and more breezy and summery instrumentation. The song takes some Afrobeats and dancehall inspirations, as well as a Jersey kick pattern, to create a pretty genre-fusing cut. Of course, a lot of that consideration is thanks to Rema, whose gorgeous voice and flow inject a lot of personality into the rap diva’s already charismatic verses.
Meanwhile, one can only dream of what the “Princess Diana” star is going to do next. Maybe it will be more commercial opportunities and high-profile appearances, or maybe she’s hard at work on her full-length debut. Either way, it’s clear that she wants to end the year as strong as she started it, and there’s not a soul in the world that can blame her. Jeezy and Jeannie Mai still live together, despite the rapper and entrepreneur filing for divorce from the reality star.
According to TMZ, the household may be a bit awkward as the two don’t specifically interact and only cross paths in transition in and out the house. Both parties are maintaining that their priority is their one-year-old daughter, Monaco.
Jeezy and Jeannie Mai’s seemingly sudden divorce now has additional detail. The split between the two celebrities is reportedly due to “certain family values and differences.”
According to Entertainment Tonight, an insider stated, “They had different views, and each felt like their needs weren’t being completely met.” Jeezy filed for divorce last week, citing their marriage is “irretrievably broken” in the court documents.
The filing was placed in the Fulton County Superior Court, and the two have already separated. There is a prenuptial agreement in place.
