Why Is Ice Spice Being Sued?

Ice Spice squeezed an entire celebrity arc since leaping onto the scene with “Munch” in late 2022. The Bronx, New York-bred rapper has gotten into an ultimately harmless public spat with Drake, befriended Taylor Swift, delivered a successful debut EP, netted three top-10 Billboard Hot 100 singles (“Karma” with Swift, “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress, and “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj), attended the Met Gala, served as the musical guest on SNL, and landed a forthcoming Super Bowl commercial (after already co-starring in a commercial with Ben Affleck).

But the most recent development officially solidifies Ice Spice as an A-lister.

Why Is Ice Spice Being Sued?

On Wednesday, January 17, TMZ reported that someone named D.Chamberz is suing Ice Spice for her “In Ha Mood” single, citing “copyright infringement” because he claims “he wrote, recorded and released a song called ‘In That Mood’ a year before her famous single.”

TMZ’s report continues, “According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, D.Chamberz says he released his song on all major digital platforms in January 2022, and he thinks Ice Spice’s producer heard it on the radio way before her song came out. He claims Ice Spice’s song copies the beat, lyrics, hook, rhythmic structure, metrical placement, and narrative context of his track.”

D.Chamberz asserts that he performed his song “dozens of times” in New York City, “near where Ice and her producer, Riot, reside.” But D.Chamberz isn’t deterred if Ice Spice and Riot didn’t attend any of his performances because he also believes “it’s more than likely” that Riot would have heard his song on New York City’s Hot 97, “and he says there are social media receipts” to prove it.

Ice Spice released “In Ha Mood” in January 2023, and it peaked at No. 58 on the Hot 100 on the chart dated March 25, 2023.

Ice Spice has been accompanying Doja Cat on The Scarlet Tour lately, opening for the Cali-born hitmaker in Miami yesterday. In a new clip, she’s seen throwing it back onstage, performing her hit track “In Ha Mood.” Of course, the crowd went wild for the Bronx native’s signature moves, and she appeared to match their energy.

The duo will continue to make their way around the U.S. and Canada until the middle of next month, with notable stops scheduled in Brooklyn, Boston, Toronto, and more. They’ll wrap things up with a performance in Chicago on December 13. Fans have been loving the addition of the “Deli” rapper to Doja’s tour, and they might get the chance to catch her on her own tour sometime in the near future. Earlier this month, the 23-year-old hinted at a new project she has slated for release in 2024, though she’s yet to specify exactly what listeners can expect.

Her new project isn’t the only thing Ice Spice has to be excited about these days, however. The Grammys also recently announced the nominations for their 2024 ceremony, with the “Munch” star raking in four of them. She’s in the running for Best New Artist, and her “Barbie World” collab with Nicki Minaj is nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Song Written For Visual Media. She’s also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her appearance on Taylor Swift’s “Karma (Remix).”

She took to social media to express how grateful she is to be recognized by the Grammys following the announcement, thanking fans for their support. “FOUR GRAMMY NOMINATIONS ?!,” she wrote. “Are you sh*ttin me!!! thank YOU.” What do you think of Ice Spice opening for Doja Cat? Ice Spice Is “In Ha Mood” For “Saturday Night Live” Performance

The Saturday Night Live stage is an iconic one in pop culture, whether for its famous performances, massive stars, or the celebrities that introduce them onto it. Moreover, for the sketch comedy show’s season premiere on Saturday (October 14), they went all-out to create a pretty big moment to kick things off. Pete Davidson hosted the whole affair, marking his hilarious, poignant, and shot-taking return to SNL. Not only that, but none other than Taylor Swift was the one to introduce the episode’s performer to the stage. With one of her biggest hits and her newest one, Ice Spice rocked the legendary TV show to the core.

Of course, once fans heard this news a couple of weeks back, they went absolutely ballistic at this prospect. The Bronx rapper is having arguably the most dominant and definitive 2023 of the whole game, at the very least for rising artists. In fact, it’s a stretch to say that she’s even an up-and-comer right now; she basically made it to the top. Regardless of that whole debate, Ice Spice still came through to impress, and ran through “In Ha Mood” with her trademark confidence.

The song takes some Afrobeats and dancehall inspirations, as well as a Jersey kick pattern, to create a pretty genre-fusing cut. Of course, a lot of that consideration is thanks to Rema, whose gorgeous voice and flow inject a lot of personality into the rap diva’s already charismatic verses.

Ice Spice Was ‘In Ha Mood’ In Her Flashy Pink ‘Saturday Night Live’ Debut

Ice Spice is running New York City. With several hits under her belt, like “Munch” and “Deli,” the breakthrough rapper has quickly become the face of New York drill. Earlier this month, she covered Variety‘s New York issue. Tonight (October 14), she accomplished another New York milestone — performing on Saturday Night Live.

In her first performance on the season 49 premiere on SNL — which was hosted by fellow New Yorker, Pete Davidson, Ice took to the stage in a performance of her viral hit, “In Ha Mood.”

Joined by two background dancers, Ice commanded the stage, grooving to the beat as flashing pink lights shined upon them. She and her pretty girl clique wowed a cheering crowd.

Performing on Saturday Night Live is surely a nervewracking experience, especially if it’s an artist’s first time, however, Ice maintained her confidence throughout the set.

As she reps her hometown with pride, performing on SNL is a career milestone for Ice. In her Variety interview, she shared that no amount of fame or notoriety could make her forget her New York roots.

“B*tch, just because I spent $100,000 in Chanel doesn’t mean I’m no longer from New York. Like, hello?,” Ice said.

At nine years old, North West is living the dream. Over the past year, she’s garnered nearly 15 million followers on her TikTok page, which she shares with her mother, Kim Kardashian.

In her videos, fans can see North as she and her friends and family make milkshakes, apply makeup, and draw some of her incredible drawings. Last month, she shared a clip of an uncanny portrait she drew of rapper Ice Spice, as the latter’s verse in PinkPantheress’ “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2” played in the background.

A little over two weeks later, it appears North manifested something special. Today (March 3), Ice Spice shared a video on her TikTok page at the Kardashian home, where she is seen dancing with North and one of her friends.

In the above clip, the three bust moves to Spice’s viral track, “In Ha Mood,” which is mashed up in a special remix with ad-libs from The Buggles’ “Video Killed The Radio Star.”

As (presumably) North records, her mom lipsyncs along to Ice Spice’s “In Ha Mood,” which has been a TikTok favourite as of late. “I tried dippin’, he beg me to stay,” she mouths along. For the next bars, she reveals the BMF actress on FaceTime, also rapping along.

“In the party, he just wanna rump / Big boobs and the butt stay plump,” the song continues as Kardashian and her “baddie friend” take turns trading lines. Their timing certainly wasn’t perfect, as many have pointed out online, but it’s the thought that counts. Of course, this isn’t the only shoutout Spice has gotten from North and her mom this year.

While some hip-hop beefs are warranted, like Drake vs. Meek Mill, others, like Drake vs. Megan Thee Stallion, were completely uncalled for.

Chance The Rapper questions whether or not he is the center of a brewing conflict. As budding Bronx rapper Ice Spice continues to promote her new single, “In Ha Mood,” Chance is unsure if one of the bars in the song is a shot at him. The line in question reads, “In the mirror, I’m doin’ my dance / And he packin’, I know by his pants / He a rapper, but don’t got a chance / Stuck in my ways so I’m lovin’ my bands.”

The Chicago native took to his Instagram stories, sharing the video clip with the caption, “Is this a diss or a shoutout,” then tagging Ice Spice before placing a poll for viewers to give their opinion.

Ice Spice Responds After Chance The Rapper Asks If She Dissed Him On “In Ha Mood”

The reasons to love Ice Spice are endless. From her “Instagram caption raps” to her completely unique sense of style, the 23-year-old’s star continues to markedly rise within the industry. As the masses digest her recently released debut EP, one rapper has some questions, specifically about a potential diss.

On the trending TikTok track, “In Ha Mood,” the redhead raps, “He a rapper, but don’t got a chance / Stuck in my ways so I’m lovin’ my bands.” Earlier this weekend, Chance The Rapper used his Instagram Story to poll followers on whether the lyrics were aimed at him.

“Is this a diss or a shoutout @icespice?” he wrote over a repost of her new music video for the song. As XXL reports, the “Bikini Bottom” hitmaker saw the Chicago native’s post and took a moment to clear the air.

“Never [crying emoji],” she simply wrote, seemingly implying she has no beef with the 29-year-old. In response, Chance continued the thread on his Story, writing, “Just double checking lol.”

Aside from the “Cocoa Butter Kisses” rapper taking the line personally, some internet sleuths have been speculating it could be aimed at Drizzy. Previously, listeners thought the Canadian was throwing shade at Spice with his “She a 10 tryna rap, it’s good on mute” bar from Her Loss’ “BackOutsideBoyz.”

The fashionista recently cleared up those rumours during a chat with Ebro Darden and his co-hosts. “He didn’t [diss me]. We spoke about it. He said that was not about me,” she confirmed.

Elsewhere in the same conversation, Spice revealed that rhyming wasn’t her first passion. Rather, she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. “I didn’t ever really like see myself being a rapper,” she explained on Hot 97.

In prior acting class, she felt shyer than her peers. Now that her confidence has risen, though, she sounds eager to explore that side of herself again.
