LL Cool J’s “Passion” Is Palpable In New Music Video: Watch

LL Cool J’s new single “Passion” certainly lives up to his title, as he spits on what he loves about rap music and how much he cares about its artistry. It’s a very motivating and nostalgic track, an element that its new music video emphasizes by seeing LL in his current form and as a small child. There’s a particular emphasis on him writing rhymes in his notebook in presumably his childhood room, and it makes for a dynamic and engaging visual treatment as you can see the bars literally orbit around him and pop up in cartoon speech bubbles.

Furthermore, this is the latest single for LL Cool J’s upcoming album, and his first in over a decade, The FORCE (Frequencies Of Real Creative Energy). The project will feature Nas, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and more massive guests across the 14-track, largely Q-Tip-produced tracklist, and it’s shaping up to be one of 2024’s biggest legacy releases. “[I was] going back to the drawing board and learning how to rap again,” he told the Associated Press about the LP. “The LeBrons, the Stephs, the Jordans and the Kobes, they all go back to the drawing board, they always try to make themselves better. I wasn’t trying to do trendy, and I wasn’t trying to recapture anything I did before.”

LL Cool J’s “Passion” Music Video: Watch

Also, this “Passion” music video lands among LL Cool J’s reflections on his relationship with another icon of the game. During a conversation with Charlamagne Tha God, he spoke on how some people are under the impression that he has beef with Jay-Z. While the two MCs aren’t the best of friends, they’ve shown each other plenty of love over the years despite what some anecdotes, rumors, and lyrical interpretations might have you believe. After all, they’re two New York legends.

Meanwhile, LL Cool J is just as prone to talk about the current state of hip-hop. “Drake, that ‘Not Like Us’ s**t, that s**t’s torture for a motherf***er,” he said of the K.Dot and Drizzy rap beef during this Charlamagne convo. “Ah, s**t, little kids singing to it. You know that s**t’s bananas. You’ll be fine, bro. Don’t even trip. You just don’t take it personal… You can’t be overly sensitive. I get it. I been there, I know it. It can be upsetting… But you gotta control that.”

Mustard Gets Deeply Personal On 10-Minute Spoken Word Cut “Pray For Me”

“There’s a song on my album where I’m rapping at the end. That’s the most vulnerable [moment], because I’ve never rapped, nothing like that”. That is what Mustard told Real 92.3 LA just a couple of weeks ago in regard to a track on the upcoming Faith Of A Mustard Seed. “I’ve been behind the boards so long that nobody has ever heard my side of things. When it comes to anything. Family or friends… I think it was just the time. Sometimes people need to hear it, from you”, the acclaimed Cali producer explained. That track Mustard is referring to is out now and it is “Pray For Me”.

Further into his interview with his local radio station, the “Not Like Us” mastermind mentioned some of the tragedies that struck him over the last half decade. They unfortunately included the loss of his grandparents during the peak of the COVID-19 virus and his recent split from Chanel Thierry. All of that and more is what makes onto this 10-minute behemoth of a single, “Pray For Me”. Mustard does rap as promised, but in more of a spoken word type of manner. Regardless of the nitpick, he really cuts himself open and unleashes a lot of things that have brewing inside.

Mustard does ask the man upstairs for help, especially in his current position, he also sends his thoughts to his loved ones and friends in the industry. He namedrops his West Coast bros such as YG, and Kendrick Lamar for helping him achieve a number one hit ahead of the project. Closer to the end of the track, he explains how his next album and its title came to fruition. While this suspected closer is not a song that most listeners will probably revisit, it is a touching moment and one that gives some extra background information on one of the biggest hitmakers of this generation.

Quotable Lyrics:

At that very moment, I didn’t know exactly what he meant by it
But I knew it was something out the Bible
When I went and I did my research on what “Faith of a Mustard Seed” meant
It says that “with a faith of a mustard seed, God will allow you to move mountains”
And I feel like where I come from, I moved just about every mountain that was in my way
And still movin’ em, with the faith of God

LL COOL J’s “Passion” Is What Fans Are Going To Get Plenty Of On “The FORCE”

LL COOL J is delivering more details on his upcoming 14th studio album, as well as a new single from it called “Passion” this weekend. The legendary New York rapper has been working toward a comeback and now we have the official return date. According to Pitchfork, The FORCE, which stands for “Frequencies of Real Creative Energy”, is coming September 6 and will feature some impressive guests. Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and Nas lead the way, but Saweetie, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, and more round things out nicely. Also affiliated with this project is A Tribe Called Quests Q-Tip, who is handling all of the production.

LL COOL J feels he made the right choice recruiting him, and he is promising fans nothing but heat and incredible creativity. “We’re talking 14 tracks of straight fire, all crafted by myself and the one and only Q-Tip. When you listen to this album, you’re not just hearing music, you’re experiencing a whole new vibe, a whole new level of artistic passion”, COOL J affirms. So far, we are certainly hearing what is saying, as the lead-off track, “Saturday Night Special”, was a luxurious and grand way to kick off this rollout. “Passion” is equally spectacular, as Q-Tip brings a head-nodding boom-bap vibe perfect for the summer. COOL J’s performance is equally passionate, as he continues to sound revitalized.

MESSIAH! Brings Out “Our Daily Bread” With MAVI & Surf Gang Ahead Of New Album

Underground rappers MESSIAH! and MAVI, are both Charlotte natives and are also criminally underrated. Each artist possesses adept songwriting skills, and that ability was on full display not too long ago. To be exact, May 24 was the day that they collaborated with Ovrkast. for “silent heel”. It was MESSIAH!’s first single in about three years and it is also a lead-off record. Yes, after 24 months or so, the North Carolina MC will be dropping a new album. According to Attack The Culture, the villain wins! will hit streaming platforms on July 26. So far, it seems that “our daily bread” is one of four promotional tracks from MESSIAH!

The others include “burden of truth” featuring Malaya, and “can’t stand it!!”, which is a solo cut. Overall, MESSIAH! has been very impressive throughout this album rollout. Our current favorite so far is still “silent heel”, as the personal storytelling and messages about addiction, mental health, in addition to going for your dreams. On “our daily bread”, MESSIAH! and MAVI are getting more braggadocious about their work ethics and one point even trade verses in rapid succession. The track’s production is overseen by the rising label known as Surf Gang. Harrrrisonnnn is the credited beat maker here and he brings a simple and slightly dark environment to the table. Go stream the single with the link below.

Eminem’s “Tobey” Slots In At #95 On The Billboard Hot 100

Eminem did not pull off a magic trick number’s wise with “Tobey” like he did with “Houdini”, but the latest single still earns a spot on the Billboard Hot 100. According to the latest refresh of the charts on Tuesday, The Death of Slim Shady cut barely cracks the list at #95. In comparison, “Houdini” debuted at number two. That made it the highest charting single for Em since his 2013 collab with Rihanna, “The Monster”. While you could argue that “Tobey” is a better track overall than its predecessor, the former does possess some key traits.

For starters, the track in nearly a minute shorter, with the lead-off track clocking in at 3:47. Typically, songs around that length do better on the charts overall. Additionally, “Houdini” is a catchier tune, especially on the chorus. While BabyTron’s on “Tobey” is still very good, it comes across clunkier flow wise. Regardless, though, Eminem charting consecutively is a great accomplishment, and it would not be surprising if it climbed up higher once the album drops Friday, July 12.

A post shared by Billboard Charts (@billboardcharts)

Speaking of the project, things are really falling in place for it. Over the last couple of days, Eminem has given us the symbolic cover art, as well as the official tracklist. The latter was leaked prior on Apple Music, showing off the potential features. However, it has since been replaced with song titles and hidden guests. Some call back to previous tracks during the peak of the Slim Shady era and there are 19 in total.

What are your thoughts on “Tobey” by Eminem, Big Sean, and BabyTron placing at #95 on the Billboard Hot 100? Are you surprised by its initial ranking, why or why not? Do you expect the single to climb up the list as the days progress? Is it your favorite of the two album cuts we have? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Eminem. Common Counts His Blessings On Pete-Rock Produced “Fortunate”

With Common being one of the “old heads” so to speak in the current hip-hop landscape, the topics he is going to focus on are going to be different. That is especially true when you compare him to the younger crop of MCs. Obviously, the Chicago lyricist has always been a more socially conscious kind of MC. But still as you age, you start to look at life, and the choices you make, in a humbler and more grounded fashion. Common (52) is doing so on his latest single with Pete Rock, called “Fortunate”. This is one of the four album cuts released ahead of the rapper/producer project The Auditorium Vol. 1.

The collaborative tape is due on July 12, so we are just counting down the hours at this point. While fans were certainly pumped for one of the greatest MCs of the 2000s to make a comeback, the hype is even higher now. After the first of the quartet dropped, “Wise Up”, the expectations for the LP grew exponentially. Common is also on the record saying that this is a project he feels will be one of his best. We can certainly see that being the outcome and with philosophically dense cuts like “Fortunate” on the tape, it will be a sure-fire success. Over the beautifully sequenced beat from Pete, Common lists off all of things he is grateful for. Whether it be his friends, family, career, or simply living, it is breath of fresh of air and perfect for the summer.

YG, Lil Yachty, Babyface Ray, & Mustard Go “STUPID” On New Single

With the entire West Coast on 10 right now thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s massive win over Drake, everyone is eager to drop. YG is one of those guys, especially as of late. The Compton native is working toward the release of his third entry in the Just Re’d Up series, which is dropping on August 16. He broke the news on his social media platforms a couple of weeks ago, along with the artwork which pays homage to the exotic car theme. On cover three, the hitmaker is with a trio of whips which includes a Maybach, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce. Enough about expensive vehicles, though, YG has a new single called “STUPID” out now!

This is potentially the fifth promotional cut, with 2022’s “Miss My Dawgs” with Lil Wayne possibly being the lead-off record. However, we know for sure that “WEIRD”, “SHAKE”, and “KNOCKA” are making the final cut. “STUPID” is following up on the second of those three, which was a** popping track featuring Kaliii and Stunna Girl. On “STUPID”, YG is offering up a pure West Coast banger about living life unapologetically and it features production from Mustard. The latter lays down another winner of an instrumental, especially with the addition of the flutes. Lil Yachty and Babyface Ray also appear on the single, both providing some solid and cohesive performances overall.

Mustard Reveals The Release Date For Eagerly Awaited Album “Faith Of A Mustard Seed”

Mustard’s year is currently defined by the success of his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on “Not Like Us”. The Drake diss track is breaking records, running the charts, and being dubbed as the song of the summer by many. In addition to helping claim Kung Fu Kenny the crown in the beef, his appearance in the accompanying music video is also another huge W. In just three days, the visuals have accumulated over 34 million views in just three days. While all of this has really helped out Mustard in 2024, do not forget that this producer has been killing it years before this. Pretty soon, Mustard is going to notch another feather in his cap when he drops his new album this Friday.

Shortly before Lamar held The Pop Out, the hitmaking expert announced Faith Of A Mustard Seed. He did so by dropping a trailer that included some behind the scenes footage of him and potential features working in the studio. Since then, fans have received a handful of extra goodies about the album. One of them is that Mustard is going to be rapping for the first time on any of his projects. Even though Mustard never had any intentions of laying down bars, he felt that had to change. “I’ve been behind the boards so long that nobody has ever heard my side of things. When it comes to anything. Family or friends… I think it was just the time”.

Mustard Is Dropping His Album This Friday

Prior to this news, we were given “Parking Lot” featuring Travis Scott, which is presumably the lead single. It ended a near six-year drought without a La Flame and Mustard track, with the last one being “Dangerous World” in 2018 with YG. There is some hype surrounding the fact that “Not Like Us” could be the real first look. However, that is all pure estimation right now. Mustard shared the album artwork on X earlier today as well the drop date. “PRAY FOR ME 7.12 #FOAMS 🟡”.

What are your thoughts on Mustard dropping Faith Of A Mustard Seed this Friday, July 12? Is this a genius move by the famous California producer? Who do you want to see featured on the album and why? Do you think “Not Like Us” and/or another Kendrick Lamar feature will be on it? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Mustard. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Eminem Chainsaws Slim Shady To Pieces In “Tobey” Music Video

There is no secret that the plan for Eminem on The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) is to axe his alter ego, figuratively speaking. However, the iconic Detroit rapper is doing so literally (as possible) in the “Tobey” music video. Overseen by Cole Bennett’s Lyrical Lemonade, this quickly became one of the most anticipated set of visuals for 2024. It is wild to think that even nearly three decades in, Eminem still has this much of a gravitational pull in hip-hop. Overall, this just further cements his legacy in the genre, even though that happened years ago. The accompanying video was announced the same day (June 28) as the “Tobey” single. Originally, it was slated to hit YouTube on July 5, however, Eminem felt it was not finished.

So, he gave his fan base a sneak peek of what was in the works on that former drop date. Additionally, Eminem said it would drop on the 8th. Well, the day is finally here, and the imagery and direction are very fun and symbolic. It essentially feels like the idea was to create a timeline effect. “Tobey” features two other Detroit stars (BabyTron and Big Sean); a nod to the three generations of talent from the blue-collar city. It starts with BabyTron first, then to 2010s decade with Sean. Eminem follows up the rear and his backdrops include the house he grew up in, and the literal murder of the Slim Shady persona with the cause of death being a chainsaw. It is quite the crescendo and it figures to be one of the most viewed music videos of the year. Check it out with the link below.
